Fiera gave the padlock a few sharp tugs. As expected, it didn’t come off. So that couldn’t be how the thief was getting in. Luckily, one of the few things that Fiera remembered was where the spare was. She crept back to the patio, next to the sliding door. Then, she slipped her hand under the mat in front of the door, her fingers meeting cold metal. Bingo. She pulled the key out, looking at it carefully. It was just a normal key- tiny and silvery in color. She slipped it into the lock, where it turned with a well oiled ease. Soon she had the lock off and on the ground and was swinging open the door to the tool shed. Sure enough... it was just a normal shed of tools. Fiera was a little underwhelmed to be honest- this is what someone was breaking into, night after night?

The tools inside were about what she had expected as well. Some shovels, some trowels. Nails and a hammer sat on one shelf, and a bag of pocket pet food lay in one corner. On the shelf were a few select treats as well. A device probably for... excrement scooping lay in one corner, and a garbage can was in the center of the room. Fiera cringed, and lifted the lid... only to find that it was filled with compost instead of what she was thinking. That wasn’t so bad. She supposed all the little cute plants in this yard had to be fed somehow. She set the lid back down. A piece of paper was pinned up to one wall, but on further inspection it was just a list of scheduled days for different forms of maintenance around the yard. When to mow the yard, when to feed the plants, when to pull weeds. The usual.

No, Fiera couldn’t see a single thing amiss about this shed. It would seem that the owners, including that dapper mammalian, had cleaned it up thoroughly after the last raid. So much for Fiera getting any clues. She was about to leave, turning from the door, when something caught her eye under one of the shelves. A metallic glint. She leaned down and pulled it from beneath the shelf. It was a toolbox- full of shattered locks. Well, that explained why the one on the door was so shiny and new looking in comparison to the well used rest of the shed. There had to be over a dozen in there, all of them also shiny and new, if not horribly mangled and bent. Well, at least she now knew the perpetrator wasn’t picking the locks... though that didn’t match up with the tiny print she had seen just beyond the fence.

She nudged the box of broken and mangled locks back to its original place under the rusty shelf. That was one clue found, at least. Didn’t really give her any idea of the culprit just yet though. Fiera supposed she’d just have to go... on a stakeout. She stepped out of the shed, giggling, and replaced the lock. Then, she stripped off her jacket- she had come prepared for this. Underneath her too warm outer clothes, she was wearing an outfit that would have gotten her arrested under suspicion of cat burglary were this place not in the middle of nowhere. Also, if she weren’t being paid to be there, with a written permission form and everything. She had a slim black turtleneck on, with long, tight pants and fashionable boots. She looked like a spy, or at least the Vai Min Mur costume version of one.

This was, as she called it, her “stakeout” outfit. As far as she was concerned, it was the best- or perhaps just most fashionable- outfit for the job. Filled with fresh confidence, she strutted back to her things, which she had laid out on the grass by the sliding door...and tried the lock key on the back door for good measure. It didn’t fit at all. Fiera sighed again. That couch had looked so comfy, but she supposed it was not meant to be. She’d just have to do with a tent. Speaking of, she went to her bag to get it out. She had bought one of those super tiny foldeable ones that, supposedly, would “spring right open!” Or at least it would according to the instructions. Really, it was just a tent. She had never been camping before, but how hard could setting up a tent be?

As it turned out, quite hard. Half an hour later, Fiera was still sitting on the lawn, messing around with various tarps and struts. Easy to set up, her butt, Fiera thought as she nervously glanced at the sinking sun. It wasn’t going to stay day time forever, and she did NOT want to stick around without shelter tonight. Why couldn’t they have just let her in the house... Arethusa was of no help, of course. Instead, the equillion just gazed at her with a bored expression, idly chewing some grass. She huffed- at least Arethusa wouldn’t mind not having a tent tonight. Fiera wrestled with the struts again, trying to get any of them standing up long enough to support a tent tarp. Instead, they withered and fell back over pathetically. She groaned loudly, cursing any gods that had the ill fortune to be eavesdropping at that time.
