Oh no! Is that crystal going to be okay? It's covered in Sarane slobber!

Pachinko was the first one to notice the additional presence within the tunnel. He tilted his head curiously and nudged at Fanged’s shoulder to alert the woman of the wild creature. Fanged looked around slowly, trying to spot where the creature was without alarming it. It didn’t take her too long to find it, though it’s dark colour blended in well with the dark tunnel. A Sarane whelp lurked inside the tunnel, its eyes fixed on a shiny, yellow gem. Did that gem have drool on it? She didn’t think Sarane were quite like gem familiars, but this one seemed to be interested in gems all the same.
When Fanged stopped walking, that was when Ral realized that there was a Sarane. He looked at it with curiosity glittering in his gaze. By the creature was a piece of topaz and Ral wanted that topaz very much. Alas, he couldn’t simply take it from the creature without starting a fight. He would need to make friends first. Fanged decided to first let the Sarane know that they were there.
“Hello there little fella, we don’t mean you any harm,” she spoke in a soft tone, trying to sound as friendly as possible.

The little drake-to-be was nibbling away on his gem without a care in the world... until he heard someone speaking. He jumped visibly and puffed out his wings. If it was an intruder, he was going to fight it! And win! He glared up at Fanged as if to say 'I'm not afraid of you!' though it's very likely that he actually was.

The little Sarane looked as though it wanted to fight. The action was more adorable than threatening, but Fanged set about to defuse the situation anyway. She wanted the little hatchling to like her after all! He had appeared to be trying to eat the gem, maybe he was hungry? She didn’t think Sarane could really eat gems, though she didn’t doubt that those powerful teeth could probably crush rocks. It simply didn’t seem like the proper diet for the creatures. But if it was food this creature wanted, then she could try and provide some! She had some food for Pachinko after all. Pachinko perked up when Fanged began to rustle through her food. Ral didn’t have any interest in food compared to gem, but he knew that Fanged wouldn’t be pleased if he raced over and snatched up the Sarane’s gem. She had some nuts that were located near the top of her bag. She didn’t know if the Sarane would like them, but Pachinko certainly enjoyed them for a treat. Figuring there wasn’t any harm in it, she scattered a few nuts onto the ground. At the very least, she hoped that it would calm the Sarane down a bit. It's attacking! The Sarane let out a little hiss to show that he was serious about his threat. Then he smelled something. Those things... they weren't rocks! He was so, so sick of rocks. He cautiously sniffed one of the nuts on the ground and put it in his mouth. CRUNCH! Ugh. It might as well be a rock. He spit the pieces back out and looked up at Fanged, expecting her to do something else interesting.

The Sarane didn’t have much of a taste for nuts. She supposed that should have been expected. After all, they were carnivorous creatures. She wondered if she had anything else in her possession to entice the hatchling with. At the very least, the nuts had worked to get him off of the immediate defensive. She didn’t know exactly what she had on her. The nuts had been for training Pachinko, but she might still have some stuff with her that she had used to train her other pets with. She slung her bag down from her shoulders and began to dig. Pachinko hopped down onto the bag to help her look, but soon spied the nuts scattered across the ground. The Sarane might not like them, but he sure did! He gazed at the hatchling warily, deciding ultimately to stick close to Fanged and try to get some treats from her. “Oh, it looks like I still have a ball from training Houluh puppies. Would you like to play?” she asked the Sarane. She pulled out the ball and rolled it across the ground for the Sarane to chase after if it wanted to play a game with her. Ral looked as though he was about to chase after the ball as well, but his focus remained intently on the gem that the Sarane had abandoned. (Ral 13 3/5, 13 3/5 | Pachinko 17 3/5, 26 3/5) 68

The whelp inspected the bright object as it came toward him and warned it off with a hiss. The ball stopped rolling which told him he was successful in intimidating it. He puffed himself up and looked rather proud. Then he went in for a sneak attack! He clawed at and chewed on the ball, and to his surprise, it didn't immediately spurt blood and squeak horribly. It was fun though. He could get used to this!
[Congrats! You've tamed the Sarane!]

The little appeared delighted with the group’s antics. With him being more comfortable around them, Pachinko was quick to hop over and snatch up the nuts that the Sarane had abandoned. Since the gem had also been abandoned, Ral was quick to sneak over and snatch it up. Both of her companions were busy and that gave Fanged some time to work with the Drake. They had made friends and now it was time to find a way out. She could try going back the way they came, though she felt as though she was a long way from the exit. Perhaps there was an alternate path they could follow.
“Alright guys, gather your belongings because we’re getting out of here,” she told her pets.
At the finality in her tone, Pachinko finished eating his nuts and flew back to his perch on her shoulder. Ral grabbed the gem in his jaws and trotted back over to her, dropping the gem at her feet. Fanged leaned down carefully and picked it up. The Sarane looked pleased that she was taking his abandoned gem with them. Fanged listened to their surroundings, trying to hear the sound of wind that would indicate a way out.

It took a bit of walking, but they finally heard what Fanged had been listening for. The sound of wind was faint, but it was certainly present. Now she would need to figure out how to get there. Pachinko was perched on her shoulder, his body wary from their long journey. Ral was growing tired as well, but he hid it better than Pachinko did. The Sarane wasn’t very tired, but it was a good idea to get him home to her kennel where he could get acclimated with being in tame surroundings. It took her a while, but she finally reached the area where the sound of wind was clearest.
It didn’t take her much longer to find where there was an opening back to the outside world. She felt a sigh of relief escape her without her initiating it purposefully. She was more wary than she had realized. The Sarane was subdued now and ready to follow her back to the kennel. She wondered if the mines had been the right environment for it, or if it would prefer the life of being tamed. She wouldn’t have to wonder for much longer. They made their way home without wasting any time.

She had come to the mines with Casper for a purpose. It was odd to see her down here without a mining familiar, but she hadn’t wanted any distractions. After all, her main purpose for being down here was to train Casper. She’d owned the ghostly Balgor for a while now and though she hadn’t any experience training ethereal pets, now would be a good time to start. Casper was perfectly content to venture down into the mines. He wasn’t frightened of the darkness and his etherealness ensured that smaller spaces weren’t as pressing for him as they were for other, corporeal creatures. “Well, we might as well venture in and find a good place to start training,” she remarked. It was going to be strange working with an ethereal creature. After all, she wouldn’t be able to use food as an incentive. But Balgor were smart creatures and she had confidence in Casper. She scanned the entrance of the mines, searching for any immediate signs of danger. The area seemed quiet which ensure safety for the time being. Casper moved first, his gaze curious as he glanced around the dark tunnel ahead. Fanged would allow him time to explore to ensure that he got acclimated to the area. The quietness of the mines appealed to her and she wondered if Casper would find the environment equally soothing in silence.
“Well, what do you think? Are you going to be okay being down here for a while?” she questioned Casper.
The Balgor blinked silently back at her, though his contentment was evident on his face. She felt an easy companionship with him. They were quite similar despite being entirely different species. She waited for him to explore their immediate surroundings, growing more comfortable the longer they stayed in the area. When no danger presented itself, Fanged relaxed as well.

Before they ventured further into the mines, Fanged wanted to establish rapport with Casper. They would begin with some training and they’d start with the most basic trick; learning his name.
“Casper!” she called out into the darkness. The Balgor pricked his ears forward and looked at her, curious as to why she was calling out. When he looked at her, Fanged was quick to praise him. “Good boy!” she sang out in a light tone.
Casper tilted his head. He didn’t know what Fanged’s motivations were, but he would indulge her in this endeavor if it made her happy. She waited for Casper to grow distracted before she’d call his name again. This was successfully achieved when a light scuffling noise filled the tunnel. It was some tiny creature like a mouse or rat and it captured Casper’s attention immediately. Casper turned his head and observed it with rapt interest.

“Casper!” she called out suddenly, trying to grab his attention. When Casper didn’t immediately look at her, she called his name again in attempt to get him to look away from the sound that had distracted him. “Casper!”
When she called his name a second time, Casper took the time to look at her. Fanged grinned and switched to praising him.
“Perfectly done, boy!”
He didn’t quite know what he had gotten correct, but the woman was pleased with him. He waited for her to repeat the word she had been calling out. Perhaps that had something to do with it. When Fanged called his name again, he was ready for it.
“Casper!” It didn’t take her too long. When he heard her call out, he turned to look at her with a spark of mischief in his eyes. He appeared to have figured out her game. “Good boy!” She beamed at him.

Just because Casper had gotten a basic grasp on the trick, didn’t mean that he had everything figured out. Fanged would need to test him further. She took some steps away from him, leaving Casper to his own devices for a little while. The Balgor watched her for a few moments before growing disinterested in her. She waited for him to completely move away from her, his attention capture by another interesting smell.
“Casper,” she called out swiftly. The Balgor took a moment, but her turned and looked at her with annoyance evident on his face. She rolled her eyes but praised him all the same. “Exactly right! Good job!”
Casper blinked slowly at her in affirmation. When the woman released his from the trick, he went back to investigating the strange smell he had scented. He moved closer, his nose pressed against the dirt as he scented.
“Casper!” Fanged was quick to call him.
