You're working hard, but it looks like all you're getting is rocks!

It appeared that the only thing located in this area were some plain looking rocks. They were not the gems she was looking for. She wouldn’t force a treasure hunt in an area that seemed rather sparse on treasure. It would be best to move on. As though sensing her defeat, the Karzik began to hop forward, essentially leaving all of her hard work behind. Fanged shrugged, deciding it was best to simply follow the creature. It was a bit difficult to keep up with Harper as she hopped along. Her injury was long healed and her pace was swift.
Somehow, even while hopping Harper was able to avoid all the roots and rocks that jutted out from the ground. Fanged had to be extra careful to prevent herself from tripping over them. The Karzik appeared to know exactly where to hop to miss them entirely. It was certainly impressive.

Harper stopped suddenly, nearly making Fanged stumble as she struggled to copy her movements. As she stepped closer to inspect whatever Harper had found, she felt a strange sense of foreboding overtake her. On closer examination, it appeared that they had stumbled across a smaller tunnel.
“I really don’t like the feeling of this, but if you’re absolutely certain you want to head down here, well then I won’t object.”
Without hesitation, Harper bounced forward, disappearing into the smaller tunnel. At first, Fanged felt afraid, but she knew she had to keep pace with her companion. She dropped down, fearing that the only way forward would be to crawl. She had been through some tight spaces before during investigations, but this was on an entirely different level.
“Don’t go too fast! It might be dangerous up ahead!” She cautioned Harper.
The Karzik continued forward, but she did slow down a little.

Her knees scraped harshly against the stone surface of the ground as she was forced to crawl. She needed to get herself low if she wanted to move through the tunnel without issue. Harper seemed to realize this was an impediment to her movement and waited for her to get comfortable with her position. Even though she managed to fit within the tunnel, she still had difficulty moving around.
“I’ll be fine, but this will be slow going.” She remarked to the Karzik.
Somehow, Harper made everything look easy despite the small space in the tunnel. She was still able to hop with a certain amount of grace that she couldn’t help but envy. Crawling was definitely not at all graceful. The ground was harsh and sharp stones dug into her skin. Fanged was lucky enough that she had worn long pants despite the rapidly warming weather as summer drew nearer.

Somehow, she still managed to carry the flashlight even while she crawled. It would have been easier to put it away for a while, but the inevitable darkness would be even more inconvenient. They turned a sudden corner and she could feel herself grow anxious as Harper disappeared from her view for a moment. She could feel the walls of the tunnel pressing against her skin as she maneuvered herself around the turn. The feeling of tightness was unnerving, but Fanged had learned how to be brave.
“This state is just temporary. There’s no need to be afraid for long.” She muttered under her breath.
She felt tiny stones dig into the palms of her hands and she adjusted her shirt so that the sleeves covered them. The long clothing was for additional protection rather than warmth. She risked overheating in exchange for additional cover. She had tried to wear light layers, even if they were long.

Fanged immediately relaxed when she caught sight of Harper once again. It was a little difficult to distinguish her shape against the darkness, but her dark form moved erratically enough that she knew the telltale shape of her Karzik. Her lungs burned with the effort of crawling. It was a continuous reminder that she was still out of shape, even with all the hard work she had done. Perhaps she was still in recovery and the idea made her feel weak. She moved to brush the hair out of her eyes and squinted against the blackness.
“Are you kidding me?” She grumbled unhappily as she made a sudden realization.
The tunnel had opened up enough that she was able to stand up. It was still rather small, but Fanged wasn’t tall enough for this to matter to her. Harper stared at her strangely as she stood up and brushed the dirt from her pants.

A coppery lump makes crawling all this way not SO much of a waste, but then something else starts undulating out of the gloom. It's dark grey and its movements hesitant as it starts to realize that it isn't alone in this tunnel.

She took the time to survey her surroundings. Harper was a few feet in front of her, focused on something that Fanged couldn’t quite make out just yet. She took a step closer with her flashlight fixed close to her feet. The light soon found a piece of copper, its colour making it easy to distinguish what it was. However, it wasn’t the only thing to be found in the tunnel.
A little bit beyond where the copper was, she spotted a strange, gem-like creature. She didn’t quite know how to react to it. This was different from when she had found Harper. The Karzik had been injured and had no choice but to trust her. The creature now appeared to be a perfectly healthy specimen. She felt a little lost on how to handle things. To her surprise, Harper let out a strange clicking noise. Was she greeting the strange creature?

The gem wyrm undulated back a bit, hissing. Life was harsh down here, and it wasn't happy to see another competitor- especially one that looked so bright and healthy. What did these creatures want from it?

Fanged knew she was going to have to interfere. The wild gem creature didn’t appear to like Harper very much. Harper didn’t appear to have the same misgivings. Instead she seemed to think that the gem creature was some alive pile of gems that could be added to the collection. Fanged didn’t know if that observation was actually off the mark or not. At the very least, this creature was alive and should be considered as such for the moment.
“It’s alright, she doesn’t mean any harm.” Fanged placed her hand across Harper’s body and pulled her back away from the Wyrm. She wasn’t quite sure how to interact with the creature herself, but she seemed like a better option than her Karzik companion.
Harper was distracted for a moment. While her gaze was fixed on the copper ore by the Wyrm, Fanged took the opportunity to interact with the creature. She didn’t quite know what to do with it. She hoped it would like her more than Harper. For lack of a better option, she held out a hand towards the Wyrm like one might do for a domestic animal to sniff.

The wyrm snapped at the offered hand and narrowed it's eyes. It didn't know what was going on at the moment, just that it didn't trust this person very much. She did have a Karzik with her, so that meant she couldn't be all that bad... Still though, the wyrm didn't know what to do, and wavered in it's indecision.

The Wyrm was clearly wary of her. It didn't react the best to her offered hand, but it also wasn't immediately scared off. That was a good sign, wasn't it? It didn't seem set on fleeing from her just yet. She didn't have much of a game plan in mind. She knew she needed to try something, however. Harper was watching carefully now. Fanged inched closer to the copper ore that was close to the creature. Did the creature even know it was there? Maybe she could help it find the copper.
"You looking for this?" she asked the Wyrm aloud.
Harper appeared unhappy when Fanged moved to nudge the copper closer to the Wyrm with her foot. If things went sideways, the Karzik would likely just snatch it back anyway. It might not accomplish much, but she hoped the Wyrm would view this as an offer of friendship or something along those lines.

The wyrm tilted it's head, surprised at the act of kindness. It didn't know much of that, deep within the earth, and it stared with blank eyes for a moment before slithering forward and sniffing at the hand a little. Well, that was unexpected, and it hoped that the person was fine with what it was doing at the moment as well. Tilting it's head the other way, it rumbled a question.

The Wyrm warmed up to her the moment she made an offering of peace. When it moved to sniff her hand (if it was even capable of sniffing), Fanged held it in place for a moment before pressing her palm forward brushing her fingers lightly against the Wyrm’s smooth skin (would it be considered skin?).
“If you want to come with us you are welcome to do exactly that,” she spoke gentley, not wanting to spook the Wyrm off.
Harper watched patiently, though she looked eagerly ahead, wanting to move on from the encounter and further explore the mines. However, Fanged was in no rush. She wanted this creature to like her. She had never seen anything like it before. It appeared to be a bunch of living gems. How on earth had such a creature been made possible? And for it to be found out in the wild was astonishing.

Hmmm... the wyrm huffed a little, just a grinding of stones together, and then wound itself around the woman's legs in admiration. It would go with her, absolutely.
[Congratulations, you've tamed the wyrm!]
