The Wyrm had been happy enough to come along with her and Fanged had taken it back to her kennel, not wanting there to be an issue between the wild familiar and Harper. She had returned now with her Karzik companion, eager to complete their expedition. She and Harper found themselves in a completely different area and Fanged was happy to explore the space.
“Hopefully we’ll find some gems around here. I need to replenish my credits after that trip to Herbologist’s Delight,” she muttered.
Harper seemed content enough to help her look for anything of value. The Karzik was gradually growing more familiar with her. The two were setting into a comfortable routine and Fanged was glad that she had managed to stumble across the injured Karzik back on her last journey with Phi. Unfortunately, her injured wing didn’t look like it would be able to be completely healed on its own.

Sadly, it doesn't seem like the wyrm has disturbed anything in the cavern walls... perhaps further down...?
[Nothing happens.]

The two entered down a tunnel, eager to begin exploring once again. The mines tended to be a little more stable thematically than the mansion was. She had a vague idea of what to expect with each journey which had a certain level of comfort in it. Harper decided to take the lead for a little while. Fanged was perfectly content to simply follow for once. The mining familiar was a natural at navigating within the dark tunnels and it was best to trust her instincts. Fanged was having to grow used to relying on the flashlight to light their path. Phi had bioluminescence which made the tool less necessary than it was when she was traveling with Harper.
“Different pets require different tactics,” she murmured.
Harper adopted a slow pace as they moved forward. It gave Fanged ample time to check around for any gems that might be hidden.

Harper was a solid navigator. She knew when Fanged needed to slow down for a moment. They ducked down a narrow tunnel and she grimaced as she felt the walls pressing into her sides. It certainly wasn’t ideal, but it was something she was going to have to get used to. It took her a bit of effort to step over the large rocks that blocked her path. Having to maneuver herself around the narrow tunnel walls took a large amount of effort.
“This better be temporary. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to go like this,” she frowned as she spoke. If Fanged raised her arm, her fingers would have brushed against the ceiling. It didn’t appear like there would be much room anytime soon. Harper didn’t appear to necessary like being kept in an enclosed space, but she wasn’t bothered by it like Fanged was.

To her surprise, a sudden gust of wind filled the tunnel. It seemed completely out of place, piquing her curiosity. Harper paused for a moment, looking almost wistful as the breeze hit her body. Fanged supposed she missed flying. So far she hadn’t been able to with her injury. Fanged didn’t know if she’d ever be able to. It made her sad and perhaps she would be able to find a solution in the future. Fanged wondered if they should look for the origin of the breeze or if that would make Harper too disappointed in her inability to fly.
“Maybe if we feel it again, we can investigate. But for now, let’s keep going forward,” she decided.
Harper seemed content with the plan. She hopped forward, making sure Fanged was following before turning her attention on what was ahead. She looked around, making sure they weren’t overlooking any treasures.

Harper paused for a moment, studying the tunnel walls with an intent expression on her face. Fanged fidgeted, not quite seeing what the mining familiar was so focused on. While they were paused, water dripped down from the ceiling, splashing onto her face. She looked up, confusion etched clearly onto her face.
“I wasn’t expecting dripping water when it’s sunny today. Is there a river above us? Is that even possible?” Fanged admittedly didn’t know a lot about the underground.
Harper continued on. Perhaps she had simply been concerned with the water. The leak had become more prevalent now. It would be best to move away from this area if they wanted to keep dry. The tunnel appeared sturdy enough that she wasn’t overly concerned with it flooding, but it was still a risk for them.
“I’d rather not figure out if I am able to swim in such a narrow area.”

Fanged frowned as more droplets found themselves in her hair. She tried to brush them out, though more seemed to replace the ones she smoothed into her hair. Harper continued forward, a sudden sense of urgency in her pace. Fanged looked around, trying to see if she could spot any danger but she soon realized that the Karzik wasn’t particularly fond of water.
“Can’t say I blame you. Water must mess with your whole echolocation system.”
She only knew the bare basics of how a Karzik functioned, but she imagined that they weren’t suited for water. If the tunnel did happen to flood that would be particularly problematic for her mining familiar. She matched her pace to Harper’s hoping that if they moved quickly they’d be able to outrun the water that seemed to becoming more prevalent with each step. Again she didn’t think the tunnel would flood, but she couldn’t quite shake the thought.

It looks like the wyrms can't get enough of you today. A low hissing can be heard over the dripping of the water - it stares from the middle of the path, curled around a scattering of gems and ore.

They didn’t manage to get as far as they’d like to escape the water. Before they could get too much further into the tunnel, their path was blocked. Harper stopped abruptly turning to stare at Fanged with a look of confusion and annoyance. Fanged took a step closer to see what had gotten the Karzik up in arms.
“Oh it’s another Wyrm. Calm down we’ve already seen one of these before.” The colour was different than the one she had recruited. Fanged hoped its temperament would be friendly enough. At the very least she’d hope it would let them walk by in peace if it wasn’t interested in making friends with them.
After a moment of observation, she realized that the Wyrm was curled around a small stash of treasure. That meant it would be easy for the creature to feel threatened. She’d need to do something to put the Wyrm at ease. She decided to start by sitting down in the middle of the tunnel. She wasn’t sure how the Wyrm would react to her presence so she would make it clear that she didn’t intend on moving away just yet.

The wyrm stares at you, but doesn’t move. It seems somewhat pacified by the lack of motion, however; its posture relaxes, giving you a better glimpse of its modest hoard.

The Wyrm didn’t appear threatened by her mere presence. She took that as a good sign. Harper didn’t really understand what the woman was doing. She eyes the gems eagerly, though she understood that approaching now meant they’d need to fight the Wyrm. She shifted back a few steps. Her eyes remained fixed on the gems though she conceded to wait for Fanged’s next move.
“Now to get closer,” Fanged murmured.
She didn’t want to move too quickly, but she needed the Wyrm to grow used to her presence. If it learned to tolerate her, then maybe it would be willing to join her. Still sitting on the ground, she scooted herself forward a few inches. She then stopped, not wanting to test her luck. She was still quite a way away from the Wyrm, but she was noticeably closer than she had been. Now she would wait for the Wyrm to react to her.

The wyrm is curious. It lets out a quiet hiss - it hasn’t seen anyone scoot along the ground that way. It unfurls from around its treasures to lean in your direction. Friendly...?

Luckily, the Wyrm wasn’t bothered by Fanged moving closer. Even its hiss seemed more out of curiosity than one of concern. Perhaps that was the only way the creature could speak. It unfurled itself from its hoard of gems, making Harper lean forward intently. The Karzik seemed impressed that Fanged had managed to separate the creature from its gems without the use of violence. She wasn’t a dumb creature though. She knew to wait further for Fanged to completely mediate the situation with the Wyrm. If she interfered now to steal the gems, the creature would simply get mad and attack them.
“Easy there, easy there,” Fanged spoke softly, trying to keep the creature calm.
She scooted forward a few more inches, nearly reaching the Wyrm’s side. However, she didn’t want the being to become frightened so she wouldn’t venture any closer. It would be up to the Wyrm whether it wanted to approach her or not.

The wyrm recoils somewhat on first approach, but seems bolstered by the lack of sudden movements. It slithers forwards until there is barely a foot or two between you.

The Wyrm was still understandably wary, but it didn’t seem to mind her approaching all that much. In fact, it took the Wyrm less time to make its move than she would have guessed. It seemed pleased that she hadn’t closed the gap between them and it was taking the initiative to do so now. Harper tensed slightly as the Wyrm drew closer to her, but she seemed to understand that Fanged had control of the situation. If things changed, the Karzik would likely step in. For now, she would watch with interest.
“That’s a good Wyrm. We don’t mean you any harm,” she continued talking in a soothe tone.
She closed the distance between her and the Wyrm, still scooting forward along the ground. The Wyrm seemed interested in the unconventional way of moving and she wasn’t about to change things up now. With the distance closed, Fanged held out her hand close to the Wyrm in greeting.
