Now it was all repetition from here at least, and Morgan was sure that they could get it finished up soon. Matsuba was one of those 'smarter than the average cookie' species that tended to pick things up quickly, but not quite sentient; so he probably wasn't going to put up an argument. Of course, he also seemed to be pretty dang chill all things considered, and that he was. "Alrighty Matsuba, stay boyo." Morgan said, while walking a few feet away to take one of the tools over to a spot that needed to be worked a little bit. Morgan was going to make a large flowerbed here, so they stood there for a moment measuring it out. They glanced up every now and again, checking to make sure that Matsuba was still in the same spot; and thankfully he was! That was a great stay, Morgan thought.

Morgan was sure that this was a good test of his knowledge of the stay command, so they were sure that he knew it by this point. Still, they were going to work on some repetition regardless. "Good job, Matsuba." Morgan said offhandedly, throwing him a treat at the same time. He'd done a pretty good job, and now it was all repetition from here. Morgan continued to move from one area to the other while telling him to stay. Matsuba would stay, and then Morgan would give him a treat and he would move around sometimes. Morgan was pretty pleased with it after the first thirty minutes, and then they started pushing their luck. They'd give the command, and move farther and farther out until finally Morgan would come back, and of course he would stay when told. Morgan gave him a treat and finally decided that he probably knew the trick.

Now that Morgan was done training Matsuba for the moment, Morgan was sure that he would do what he was supposed to do while they began to work on the garden itself. Morgan was ready to start getting some decent produce from it eventually; at least by the winter season, and they needed to work quickly since the winter season was coming up soon. Morgan was a little nervous that they might not get it done if weather didn't permit, or if the work crew didn't come in and work on getting the comfortable portion of the garden all set up for them in the meantime... Where were those people anyway? It always felt like the people that Morgan hired tended to get there late no matter what it was, but they all tended to do so well that Morgan did not at all try to complain about it. No need to.

Morgan did not make it part of their personal habits to hurt folks' careers, especially not when it was a relatively simple thing. So they got to work on their own projects, working on tilling up the ground with the tiller that they had bought. It wasn't backbreaking work; they bought a nearly self-working tool in order to do this, but they remembered to call Matsuba over just in case he managed to drop a berry nearby. "Matsuba, come!" Matsuba came toddling up, looking for more treats from a safe distance from the noise. "Good boyo, Stay." Morgan said. Now they were sure that he would be nearby so that Morgan could actually get some work done without worrying about all of the berries being lost while Morgan was busy with the garden. Morgan turned their attention to their work nearly entirely, getting the area fixed up quite quickly.

Morgan was doing incredibly well, all things considered, tilling up the area for planting. Of course the almost automatic machine was doing incredibly well and Morgan didn't have to do much except for to keep from trying to plow up the rocks and concrete in different areas that would serve to look quite beautiful when the produce finally started to grow, but would otherwise tear up the equipment. At this point Morgan had just about knocked their knees and calves on every rock out here, so they at least knew what to do with it. "Good boyo, Matsuba." Morgan said as they took a quick break, giving him a piece of a treat in order to make sure that he was going to keep his training from here on out. "You've got it down I guess." Morgan said quietly, as they grabbed a water bottle from their backpack.

Morgan usually didn't get thirsty on the job, but truth be told they hadn't come directly into the garden when they first got here today; opting instead to take a break outside first. Those breaks typically did make Morgan a bit dry-mouthed, which was a distasteful thing; not something they'd expected when they had first started at all. However, Morgan found it a soothing practice, and it reminded them of father, and it had become a really common habit of theirs at the very least. Morgan took a good sip of the water bottle after unscrewing the lid carefully, and then they glanced over at Matsuba, who was finishing their treats. They took one last sip and then licked their lips quick, they were dry. This dry weather was really messing with Morgan's lips, chapping them. Ugh, that sucked, Morgan thought. Good work, today, Morgan thought. They'd just have to keep working on it. [87]

Morgan still had a few more small areas that they needed to till up using the tiller, and then... Well, hopefully that crew would get here today. Morgan glanced over at the king of evergreen, wondering if there was anything that he needed in order to produce better. Perhaps some pruning? Morgan needed to take a break from tilling, it was starting to hurt their back after all. Morgan reached over into their boxes carefully, and shifted around a bit. Where were those shears? The tiny ones for plant creatures just in case? Morgan continued to search and search and tried to look for those tiny little sheers. Matsuba grew curious, and moved over, leaning heavily on his staff. Morgan peered at him curiously for a second. "Oh, you interested in figuring out w-what I'm looking for?" Morgan said, before continuing to rumble around in the box and search for the sheers.

Morgan hadn't even noticed the bitter cold in a while; cold and dry air... Not exactly Morgan's favorite. They weren't super huge on cold and wet either, they figured it was just cold in general... Morgan was definitely feeling the shiver now that there was a slight wind in the air, at the very least. However, Matsuba wasn't bothered at all; that's what his coat was in fact. However, Morgan was going to find those sheers no matter what! Morgan dug and dug around in the box until finally, he lifts them from the box as soon as they found them in the box. "There we are!" Morgan exclaims, and then turns around immediately to find that Matsuba did look nervous looking at those sheers. Oh, yeah, that made perfect sense. He'd been nervous about the tiller at first as well. "Hey, it's gonna be fine." Morgan said, waving the sheers about.

Matsuba certainly did not appreciate the waving of the sheers, so Morgan frowned quietly when they realized what was going on. They let the sheers drop to their waist and then they turned around to look at the gate they saw the worker crew standing there. Oh, good, might as well let them in. Morgan turned to tell the king of evergreen to stay, and then they walked to the gate to let it open, not really noticing that they were holding the shears still. After a brief conversation ending with Morgan pointing over to the boxes that Morgan had set aside for them. Very good, Morgan thought, now things would get done around here much quicker. Morgan would have time to try to shear the king of evergreen indeed. "Alright Matsuba, we need to get you clipped up. You'll be fine." Morgan said very quietly. Trying to be calming, in fact.

Matsuba was in no way wild anymore, it was quite obvious to Morgan that he wasn't at all non-affected when it came to the psycho-social bond. Morgan wasn't sure what was going on with him, but he seemed to have a lot more respect for Morgan than he had earlier. Still, Morgan could detect him trembling over the shears. He was obviously quite afraid, and Morgan did feel a little bit aggravated that it wasn't quite well enough used to Morgan not to be affected by it. "Come on Matsuba, you'll be okay." Morgan said, not really meaning the words even as they said them. Sure, Matsuba was useful, but he wasn't a companion like Morgan's houluh were. Companions were important and special, and of course Matsuba was... Useful. Not a companion though. Morgan needed him for utilitarian purposes, and that meant that he would need to be clipped up a bit for his own health.

Matsuba was anxious and Morgan could tell. They didn't really feel bad about it of course, they knew at the very least that they weren't going to hurt him, though the poor creature seemed to think otherwise. It wouldn't be long afterward that he would see that Morgan didn't want to hurt him and that the pruning process would not at all hurt him in any way. "Come here, boyo..." Morgan said gently, and then they moved forward, gently grabbing his shoulder to turn him about carefully. At this, Morgan quickly but carefully cut down the pine needles on his back, to make sure that they wouldn't get snagged anywhere, and then they turned him about the other way. It was over more quickly than even Morgan had expected, and they held the shears to one side. "See Matsuba? That wasn't so b-bad." Morgan said to him. Much better.

Morgan knew that sooner or later, they were going to have to switch to checking on another critter, but perhaps they would stick with Matsuba for a while longer. After all, he was the one that was in season right now, and it was important to get to those berries, which Morgan had poorer luck with a bit earlier. Morgan didn't take long before putting those shears up, since they weren't needed at the moment. The gardens were not ready to be shorn yet, since there was hardly anything growing as of yet. However, Morgan would be ready when the time came, and the shearers would be quite easily found in the little shed Morgan had put up specifically for the purposes of finding things more easily. Matsuba had been told to come to Morgan, and of course it didn't take long for him to pop right up, now that he had been trained.

That was good, at the very least Morgan didn't have to worry about him losing his berries in places away from Morgan whenever he was in season and Morgan was there. They were running out of time to be able to get the berries for this year, and then Morgan was going to have to actually pay more attention to the garden itself for a while than pestering around with just Matsuba. After Morgan put the shears away, Matsuba looked much more calm. Surely he noticed that he didn't get hurt, right? Morgan shook their head. At the very least he had allowed them to do it, and hadn't ran away. That was quite calming, at least- it meant that his psycho-social bond had finally cemented to a point that he would not run away from Morgan if danger presented itself, and that actually made him quite a bit easier to maintain the health of.

Plant pets were a lot different than other creatures, and Morgan had never really planned on getting into working with them not once in their entire life. However, once they had studied botany in order to get their job, Morgan had finally came to an understanding about botany and the uses of plant creatures. Being able to keep them theirself to have full use of their berries and other such productions was a no-brainer. They were useful for all kinds of things, not to mention the 'magical' uses of them. It would be very good to have as many of them as possible coming into the new year for continued practice with magic. Morgan couldn't use any more nodes theirself since they swallowed theirs, but they would still be good for research purposes and of course Morgan could sell their services with creating them, since they knew how to do the process quite well.
