Please note...- The last date to post your introduction post is 72 hours from this post. Without an introduction post you cannot battle. - Certain moves can't be used in the Pit because of the surroundings and other moves can affect more than one creature at the same time. After all introduction posts have been posted you will be informed whether those two apply to any of your creatures' moves. - That you have 72 hours to post a response to a calculation post and/or roleplay post. The 72 hour deadline is not extended if your foe posts after a calculation post. Not meeting the deadline results in an automatic disqualification. - That characters level once every 20 posts in the Fighting Pit, but pets gain levels and loyalty towards their owners normally.

Despite Rabbit's many, many words of warning over the training period, Rhys was in high spirits as they approached the Pit. It had been no small matter to apply in secret, and then to intercept the letter for their first round before Aster had a chance to see it. Rhys owed it in large part to Rabbit's help; someday he hoped to return the favor, somehow, even if she would probably tell him she had no need for his gratitude.
Somehow, he'd made it! And now he was going to fight his first fight. He was buzzing with a heady mix of nervousness and excitement, his wings twitching with it as Rabbit carried him into the building. Best to conserve his strength, she'd said, though with how restless he felt now, he wondered if he might not have been better off flying alongside her after all.
As they walked into the pit proper, however, he stilled a little, caught off guard by the size and scope of the space. Rabbit stopped obligingly, and Rhys's eyes were wide as he took it all in.
{I'm going to fight here?} said Rhys.
"It is made to accommodate creatures of all sizes," Rabbit replied, answering the question he hadn't asked. "You will have good room to maneuver. I would be wary of the footing. We did not practice on sand." Gently, she set him down, and he turned to face her. "I will be up in the stands, and there will be medics to tend you afterwards."
{Not going to wish me luck?} said Rhys, trying to feign an easiness he didn't actually feel.
The TROD inclined her head.
{Um, nevermind. I'll, uh, review what you taught me in my head. The other creature should be here soon, right?} He sure hoped so, anyway. His nerves might eat him alive if he had to wait very much longer.

Ah, Petite Tournaments. This was not Ashe's forte, he was definitely more into the bloodthirsty monsters that were as big as a house, shooting fire and electricity at will. But here he was, with a tiny little creature ready to try her skills against whatever other little creatures came out. Now, mind you, Ashe didn't dislike small things. He had Shijin, an Amulet Spirit, an Imp, and a slew of other small creatures. He was just skeptical of their battling abilities and their worth in the Pit. Notice how they have to have an entire tournament based on size and tiny strength.. He thought to himself, carefully blocking these negative thoughts from Prelitya. The Lerrel was actually pretty fiesty and had won her last tournament, but she had been entrusted to him from a dear friend when that friend had left. Ashe didn't know if he would have ever trained up a lerrel himself, but he had to admit it was kind of fun watching her dominate.
A few minutes later, the doors creaked open slightly and Prelitya darted through into the arena. The sand barely moved, she was so small and quick and light. Once she was sufficiently inside, she paused and sat up, to look around for her opponent.
Ashe meanwhile was climbing the steps to the stands to get a good viewpoint. Inyala was on his shoulder, still undecided if she wanted to watch this or if she wanted to go roam and come back when it was done. She found these fights boring. When Ashe was breaking a Sarane, she was worried. When Ghidorah was battling tooth and claw, it got a little scary. But this, she wasn't sure...

Rhys tried to do as he'd said he would, and review everything he'd learned, but his thoughts wouldn't settle on anything. It was probably just as well that the opponent showed up when they did--- a dark haired man, carrying a... a furry creature with four extra limbs folded up along its back. On a different occasion, if they hadn't been meant to face each other, he might have been more curious about it. Even now, his mind reached out almost instinctively, and in the brief brush against the other creature's thoughts, he learned that it was female.
{It is starting,} Rabbit told him. She must have been up in the stands, watching him. Rhys waited a moment, wondering if maybe she would give a command, but nothing came.
He was on his own.
His body went taut, ears back, nearly trembling with repressed tension. Think. Think, he said, but if anything, the restlessness had become worse, teetering on the edge of panic. And the other creature moved so quickly---
Tie her down. He could tie her down, he thought, and the thought became vines, twisting up and out of the earth, reaching for the other creature like snares.

Prelitya was a little bit surprised when she felt something touch her mind. It was much like the connection she'd had with Pre, and now had with Ashe, a slight tickle and some words shared, some pictures seen but not real. This was different though! It was a touch, but not a touch, and then it was gone. She felt a little weird about it, though she wasnt going to let it bother her. She was a fighter, she'd been to this Pit before and she knew how things worked. She stirred up the sand with her paws, digging in and getting ready. Ashe's command would come soon and he always knew what to do! Her tail whipped back and forth as she sized up her opponent. It was a strange looking creature, one she'd never seen the likes of before. It wasnt scary looking - in fact, it was quite pretty. But things like that meant nothing to a level.
Ashe watched from the stands, wondering what kind of creature that even was. It had a weasel like body that reminded him of Felusine, though that was where the resemblance ended. Was it a new species? Or a modified custom? Did that mean it had extra powers? Bash! Ashe told Prelitya. Better to charge it and see what it was about than to sit around wondering all day. Inyala leaned forward, watching the tiny laurel take off in a blurry of sand and tiny feet.

Time seemed to go liquid slow as Rhys watched the opponent barreling toward him, seemingly heedless of the vines even as she evaded their grasp. There was no uncertainty in her movements, no hesitation. For a moment, it felt as though he was floating just outside himself, watching everything happen. Was this--- was she what it was like to be experienced? Was this what he was lacking?
She was going to crash into him.
Abruptly, Rhys scrambled to one side. Sand flew as he scrabbled for footing; twice he nearly tripped in his own hastiness. His thoughts hadn't caught up yet. It was pure instinct, honed through grueling sessions together with the TROD. Against all odds, they'd held.
Even so, it was a close thing. Rhys could feel the rush of air that followed her passing, the force of impact barely averted. A shudder went through him at the thought of what would have happened if he hadn't dodged in time. She'd moved even faster than he had expected, even with his attempt to slow her down. The spent vines lay limp and useless along the ground, a testament to his failures.
He had to get away. He had to get up--- up and out. The heat of panic filled him as his wings beat with desperate speed, carrying him aloft as quickly as they were able.

For a second, Ashe thought they had the upper hand. Seeing their reaction times, it was obvious his lerrel was quicker on the draw than the other creature was. Even if he dodged out of the way of their first attack, Ashe wasnt worried because Prelitya could dodge, too. As expected, man and imp witnessed Prelitya duck and dodge through the reaching vines as if they were standing still. She'd almost made it to her opponent when it sidestepped and scrambled out of the way. Maybe not so fast in general, but pretty quick reaction speed!
Prelitya was surprised when her opponent got away from her. She was pretty fast and expected her attack to land, so she was a little off balance when she skidded to a halt some amount of paces beyond the felusine. Sand sprayed and her tail whipped around, keeping her upright. She blinked rapidly, her head swiveling to find where he had gone. He was making a move to fly away! Prelitya hesitated just a second, wanting to jump after him but Ashe hadn't given her a command and she trusted the man's commands to lead her to victory. The least painful option was always best!
Jump! Ashe ordered. If he could launch this attack and get some damage in, maybe it would interrupt the take off and the creature wouldn't be able to fly. Already thinking the same thing, the lerrel leaped up into the air to try and catch the felusine, or at least knock it out of midair itself.

For a moment Rhys felt as though he had forgotten how to fly. He felt himself seize up, his wings beating out of rhythm, and he faltered--- but then caught himself; and as soon as he stopped thinking about them, his wings carried him steadily upward like they always did.
His trials weren't over, however; the opponent lunged at him, and Rhys banked sharply to one side, just out of reach. He might not have been hit, but even so, he wobbled precariously for a moment.
The look he saw in her eyes sent another chill along his spine. He was still nervous and uncertain, but she knew her purpose here, and given the chance, she would bring him down without a second thought.
This was a fight. He couldn't dodge forever. Sooner or later, his luck would run out, and then...
Making up his mind, Rhys changed the angle of his wingbeats, angling himself down toward her. The moment aloft had given him just a moment to breathe, and it was easier to think clearly up here. He could attack too. If he could just get close enough to get a bite in, like he'd practiced... Just like he'd practiced...

She had missed again! Boy that was frustrating. How could she miss twice in a row? Her opponent wasnt even that fast! She dropped to the ground, wings fluttering to make her landing as light as possible. The sand was soft, too, so she took no damage from the fall back to earth. Her tail lashed angrily as she eyed him so high above her, trying to think about what to do.
Ashe, too, was thinking. The reaction time had been slower and he didnt look like the best of fliers out there. Prelitya was fast, jumping through air or running on the ground, maybe she could...
Pounce. Then wing buff. It was worth a shot, anyway. If she could land this, the battle might tip in their favor. He didnt know what kind of attacks this creature had, he'd only seen the one plant based attack. Was there more? Or was that his one special move? He figured they'd find out, unless Prelitya could do something.... Inyala felt Ashe's tension and leaned forward intently, bracing herself to keep from falling as she watched.
Prelitya wasted no time in taking these orders to heart. She crouched, rear in the air, and sprang into the air as high as she could go.
