Silver couldn't figure out what this woman's goal was, but they didn't mind. Having some company was actually kind of nice after spending so much time alone. Even if they were never really alone with all the various magical creatures running about demanding their attention.
"I'd love to see it," Silver said with a nod. That wasn't even a lie - they did genuinely like plants and would be happy to take a look at hers. As they walked past the garden bed, a particular plant caught their eye. It was an invasive weed that was just starting to grow in. Without thinking about it, they bent down and ripped the little stalk out of the ground, roots and all. They tossed the plant to Cepe who caught it like a dog playing fetch. It was purely luck that Cepe didn't stomp on anything important.
Silver looked up at Fiera and realized that they had made a faux pas. "Ah, that was..." they couldn't remember the name, "it overgrows and chokes out flowers come spring."

Fiera strolled forward, fully prepared to give the whole tour to this 'Silver'. They'd be impressed, she'd show them. She snapped her fingers and Lincoln started following- at his own, meandering pace of course. Fiera couldn't help but flinch as Silver ripped up a plant and tossed it to their mussimander. The nerve! She opened her mouth to chew them out, but couldn't help but hear Silver's stammering explanation. She closed her jaw, clenching her teeth. "...That's fine then!" She said, trying to keep a hold on her temper. "It's fine, I... appreciate the help." She said, lashing her long tail behind her. "So! Uh, Silver, was it? What brings you to the labs?" Fiera continued, trying to change the subject to something more pleasant. At least if Cepe's mouth was occupied with that weed, it wouldn't be eating any of the plants she DID like. Lincoln did eye him a little jealously, though.

They got the sense that she was tense around them, and they understood that. Honestly, they were a little surprised that she was even willing to show them around instead of kicking them out. Silver wondered what she was up to and why she even let them wander around with a giant lizard who had already overstepped his bounds. For the sake of making friends, they decided not to say anything and just assume that she was being genuine about being happy to show them around.
... That was a question. Even if they were perfectly honest, they didn't have an answer for it. Would they have to tell their whole story (or as much as they knew, anyway)? That seemed like a weird thing to do, so they simply said, "I've actually been here a long time. I raise creatures," they explained. Didn't everyone around here? Well, it was basically all they did with their time, so it was all they could think to say.

Fiera was, indeed, tense. But her self centered pride would always win out against just letting something- or in this case, someone- go. The path brought them through a grove of trees and Fiera pointed them out, noting how they'd grow different kinds of fruit in the summer, trying to keep up her tour guide facade. She did listen to Silver's answer though, and made conversation. "Oh, I see. It seems like everyone here raises pets- though I've yet to meet anyone who's entirely native to the city." She said with a slight chuckle. It was true, of course. Everyone seemed to be from somewhere else, making the city a melting pot of cultures... with the different cultural clashes that entailed. Fiera had been lucky to stay out of that for the most part though. "I'm quite new, myself." Fiera said, thinking back to her own recent arrival... and how she very much didn't want Silver asking about her past. "Though I have quite the menagerie myself by now!" She said, hoping that that would save the conversation.

Silver did listen to everything she had to say, even if they didn't have much to say in return. They were slightly more focused on a combination of keeping Cepe out of trouble and not messing with anything in the garden after how she reacted the first time. They did genuinely try to pay attention, they just weren't very good at it.
"I think people who raise creatures are more likely to meet one another," they suggested. They had actually thought about this a lot. Why was it that everyone they unintentionally bumped into also had a huge variety of creatures? It probably wasn't a coincidence. It did make sense if they thought about it. The creature keepers were more likely to be doing... creature keeping, which brought them within close proximity of one another.
"It really is a strange place, isn't it?" Silver said. They didn't like to think about that too much, though, so they changed the subject quickly. "How are your creatures? Any you want to tell me about?" Their ears perked up when they asked, revealing that they were actually very interested in hearing about them. Perhaps a bit more so than the fruit trees...

Fiera shrugged, thinking about the people she had met. It made sense- people that bred creatures tended to show up at the breeding center. People who raised pets for contests were usually found at the contest hall. People who gardened... well, she hadn't seen Silver's garden yet, but they must have something, right? She was relieved when Silver skipped straight over the 'where are you from' implications, and their facial expression suggested that maybe they didn't want to discuss it. Fiera supposed that was fair- she couldn't be the only one that had a past not worth talking about. Of course, she IMMEDIATELY leapt on the opportunity to talk about herself. "Oh, well! What pets don't I have, aha. There's Lincoln, of course- he's always been one of my favorites." She said, and the Lamadidron snorted at the mention of his name. "And then there's my rakai sarane, I have some well trained ones of those, Victor and Fern. My yumenokei, Lunara, is doing especially well right now. Oh, and I have a veritable flock of harachiu by now, those took a while to find. I'm glad they have each other now though, I only had one before and she was awfully lonely-" Fiera kept babbling, as if a dam had been opened.

Some of the tension between them had lifted now that they were talking about their pets. Fiera seemed just as enthusiastic about her own creatures as Silver was. It made them smile a genuine smile. They were happy to hear about all of them, and they tried to form a mental picture of each one as they were mentioned. They had no idea what color or anything they might be, so they mostly just pictured things of various size that looked like Gen.
Harachiu. Silver thought about their own Harachiu and how they must have felt the entire time they were away. They always had each other, of course, but they could tell that the change affected them. They tried to ignore that strange feeling they had when thinking about it and focus on paying attention to Fiera. Even if she was going on and on, she deserved their respect and attention. They only briefly looked away from her to click their tongue at Cepe which stopped him from munching on a flower.

The air did seem lighter as Fiera babbled- Silver was an awfully good listener. Which was good, because Fiera was an excellent talker. And a horrible braggart, but nothing had been said about that yet. The only interruptions in her speech was when Lincoln decided to eat one rare plant or another, or stick his head where it didn't belong, causing her to run over and try and pull the stubborn beast away. All while talking, of course. Fiera was admittedly a difficult person to get along with. Rude, uncompromising, accusatory, the whole shebang. But Silver's acquiescing nature had so far put them quite high in her books. Enough so that she had almost forgiven them for letting Cepe bowl her over. Almost.
"-Oh, and that over there is the pond and terrace. Aren't they pretty?" She said, gesturing to a circular pool of water they were coming up in front, with the path splitting to the left and right around it. It was frozen solid right now of course, but it was likely quite pretty in the warmer months. And to the right, the path stopped at some stone steps, which led up, up, up to a flat terrace above the pond. The tops of a bare tree or two were visible from their perspective on the ground, but otherwise it was too high to really tell what was up there. One could only guess what a good view you could get from such a high vantage point.

Silver got along with pretty much anyone that wasn't a registered puppy-kicker, so they were genuinely happy to have the company. Fiera talked a lot and seemed kind of moody, but honestly she was way better company than some of their creatures. They were more than used to things demanding their attention and even some that babbled on and on about things that they didn't understand. Not to say that Fiera was doing that, necessarily. The garden that she kept was also quite lovely, and there were plenty of lovely distractions to look at.
"Very," they said with a nod. They would always just say whatever she expected to hear, especially at this stage. This time, though, they followed it up with a question. "Do you keep any Lotine here, in the pond?" They looked at the icy surface and revised their statement. "Well, maybe not right now, but when it's warm..." Silver loved their Lotine Lei-lei and thought about her as they looked at the serene frozen pond and surrounding plant life. Cepe tentatively put a claw onto the surface of the ice, but immediately pulled it back again when they ice turned out to be, in fact, very cold.

Fiera nodded with her hands on her hips, satisfied. Of course it was pretty, that was right. She had designed it to be, after all. Even if she was... lets call it a 'junior' landscaper, she was still sure her pond was the prettiest in the gardens. The terrace was fantastic too with its excellent view, so she picked that path to go down next, pulling ahead of Silver with Lincoln following diligently behind her. She didn't respond right away to the lotine question, though. "Ehn. I've thought about it, but I don't really... 'get' lotine. Aren't they like, super smart? But they can't talk or write, so you're just kinda... stuck with them staring at you. Wigs me out. If I HAVE to have a pet that's smarter than I am, I want to know that I can ask it if it's planning on killing me, yanno?" She said with a laugh.

No one really knows where they come from, but here, have some candy- the garden seems to say. It would seem that the mussimander is being a little stingy with mushrooms at the moment.

Silver had never done any intentional landscaping with their own garden, so they were genuinely rather impressed by the expansiveness of hers. They just let flowers grow in wherever they wanted, and curated little patches for them. It worked really well for growing flowers or whatever else they needed for their medicine, but it was a rather cobbled together looking place. They definitely wouldn't invite her, they thought. She probably wouldn't like it.
There was just the slightest hint of surprise on Silver's face when she said she didn't like Lotine. They were so lovely! How could she not like them? They quickly and consciously set their face back to a neutral smile as to not unintentionally offend her. Just in case. "Ah, yea, they are pretty smart, but they're also very peaceful. I don't think one could hurt you even if they really wanted to." Silver thought on what she had to say about smart pets and being able to speak to them, and how their connection with Lei-lei was one that needed no words. They knew many beings they could consider smarter than themselves, and such a connection did not always require a common language. Maybe they were the weird one here, who knows.
Meanwhile, Cepe tried to eat some ice from the surface of the pond, only to bonk his nose on it hopelessly. He snapped at it a few times like that would change something, but it didn't. He looked defeated and flopped down onto the cold ground with what could only be interpreted as a lizard style pout.

Fiera shrugged at Silver's response. That was fair, she guessed. "It's not really about how nice they are, anything can be nice. It just... doesn't it bother you if they're as smart as you but literally can't say no? I just want to... know that they're happy." Her voice took on a different tone, from when she was younger and angrier. And then her voice took on a lot more of the angry part. "It's like- wOAH HEY NO. OFF. OFF THE ICE." She said, pointing angrily at Cepe, before vaulting herself over the side of the terrace steps to try and stop him. She felt the force of hitting the ground radiating up her body. Despite being part cat, that was going to hurt in the morning. "How thick does your dumb lizard think the ice is?" She said, watching cracks form in the pond. "He'll fall right through!"

That was probably the first thing she had said that really resonated with Silver. Was she only pretending to be concerned that they could hurt her and hiding that she was actually really concerned for the plight of sentient creatures? They had spent most of their life fighting for the plight of creatures, especially intelligent once, and they were for a moment speechless about her heartfelt comment. They decided that after this, they would visit Lei-lei again to confirm that she was... happy.
Oh no she was yelling again. Cepé! Why did he have to be so oblivious? They almost had a moment there. Silver delicately hopped over the steps the same way she did, though they didn't seem fazed by the jump at all. Magical boots would do that sort of thing. They waved to Cepe and said, "Come here, boy, you can't go out there, okay? Come!" Cepe licked his nose and watched the humans freak out about something. He didn't seem intent on moving. "It's okay," Silver said, turning to Fiera. "I'm pretty sure he can swim."
That didn't sound like good news at all the way they casually said it.
