She snapped a couple of gooseberries off of a nearby bush as she passed, snacking on them. She hummed as she chewed- they were still pretty unripe, greener than usual and sour. Honestly, pretty unpleasant. As she finished chewing that little mouthful however she felt a small but persistent pressure on her arm. She looked down to find Hellebore staring at her insistently with wide eyes. When Fiera didn’t react right away, he glanced down almost imperceptibly between her hand with the gooseberries in it and back to her face. “You... want these?” Fiera said hesitantly. Could you feed a cat gooseberries? She knew that you couldn’t feed a dog grapes. Were those the same thing...? As if replying to her though, Hellebore started up with that soft purr again, rolling over into his back playfully. Despite that though, Fiera was a little hesitant to just hand them over.

When Hellebore continued to cajole and outright beg for a berry however, Fiera hesitantly lowered her hand so he could see them. Maybe he just wanted a sniff? She wasn’t about to feed a baby animal a food that she didn’t know they could eat, but she didn’t want to deny him a new experience either. Maybe he- oh, there they went. Fiera resisted the urge to yelp but snapped her hand away as Hellebore closed his teeth down around the remaining gooseberries, quick as a flash. He didn’t even bother trying to chew them, lifting his head so he could swallow them whole. The entire process was unnervingly fast for a creature that was so young and uncoordinated otherwise, and Fiera decided to not hold anything immediately edible around his head any time soon. She’d also have to keep an eye on him for any signs of poisoning as well.

Despite that though, the tailypo kitten didn’t display any signs of discomfort due to the fact that he just swallowed a couple of hard fruits the size of his eyeballs while. If anything, he seemed plenty smug. For the time being then Fiera decided to let it go and just get to the berry bushes that she knew WERE ripe. She walked past a small pond next to a tall terrace which she was sure would be frozen over again soon enough. Her copper lamadidron, Lincoln, had nearly fallen in there last year thanks to that “Silver” jerk and Fiera had just barely managed to get him off before the ice broke. She refused to put any sort of fence up around it though- it was just far too pretty to mar with that sort of thing and most of her pets weren’t dumb enough to try something like that. Lincoln wasn’t necessarily dumb of course, but... he was a little stubborn for his own good.

The pond was still liquid for now though, not that she was letting Hellebore anywhere near it. That was a disaster screaming to happen. She shifted the basket a little closer to herself, pushing Hellebore back in as she rounded the corner and reached the base of the terrace. There was another part of the garden up on top with stairs leading up, but it was mostly paved with only a couple of decorative bushes and trees. No, her berry bushes were here at the base. There was still plenty of sunlight for them to soak up, but it was paired with particularly moist soil due to the terrace partially shading the surrounding area and retaining its moisture. It made the bushes grow in green and lush with incredibly juicy berries... in theory. Her berry bushes hadn’t been here last year, so this would be her first time tasting their bounties.

“Are you excited, Hellebore?” She said, and in response the kitten rolled over and tried playing with his own ribbon. She guessed that that probably meant SOMETHING. “I’ll take that as a yes.” As she looked up at her berry bushes however... she saw a bunch of little odd colored eyes staring back at her. “Oh HELL no!” She shrieked as the feral orbaru scattered- even Hellebore jumped a bit. “Mangy little beasts! Stealing MY crops!” She said, running at them as they hopped away, mouths and paws stained with red juices and booping angrily at being chased away from their buffet. Fiera huffed with rage as they escaped into surrounding hedges. She didn’t know that feral orbaru even came out this far from the city! It wasn’t like there wasn’t a lot of food for them here this time of year, but usually they went for garbage cans.

Fiera saw another tail disappear into a bush up ahead as the other day scattered. “Oh no you don’t...” the humanish grumbled to herself as she rounded the bush, determined to catch at least one of these creatures in the act. To her surprise though, the critter in this bush wasn’t an orbaru at all. “...oh.” She said dumbly, staring struck as the last of the orbaru scattered into the wilds once more. It was a lotine, and a gorgeous green and orange one at that. “...Hey there!” She said, trying to roll back the aggressive demeanor she had before and not scare it now that she was face to face with it. Lotine weren’t generally pests- they didn’t eat much and what they did was usually aquatic. It wasn’t stealing berries from her today and was likely just passing through. “You uh... want a gooseberry?” She said, getting one out from her pocket and holding it out.

The Lotine stared wide eyed at Fiera. She tried to shrink into herself, but it clearly wasn't working that well. She pulled her paws in close to her chest and turned her head away. No, she did not want that thing.

Ah, no, that didn’t work. This lotine almost immediately snubbed her on the gooseberry, and she had the feeling that trying other forms of fruit wouldn’t turn out much better. Didn’t lotine normally eat fish or something? Fiera couldn’t really recall but regardless, perhaps food wasn’t the best way of going about this. As she retracted her arm and tried to think of a different solution however, Hellebore presses forward for her. Ah, that made sense. Baby tailypo were ridiculously charismatic- if anything could win this lotine over, it would be him. He purred softly as he approached the lotine, and then arched his spine as if he were going to rub up against it... only to fall over onto his back just before he made contact, showing his belly. The whole thing was completely adorable, though Fiera hoped that it didn’t end up being ineffective.

Purring? What was... purring? The Lotine looked around confused about the source of the sound. Eventually her eyes landed on the baby Tailypo. It was so cute that she couldn't resist just reaching out and touching it, just a little bit, with her front paws.

Hellebore reacted well to the lotine’s touch and started purring even louder, leaning into the lotine’s touch. It was nice to get pets from something other than his owner for once! The lotine certainly seemed calmer now as well, to the point where Fiera wondered if she could get away with touching it as well. She gave Hellebore a minute or so to really put the charm on before Fiera started reaching out as well. “We’re not gonna hurt you, see? We’re nice.” She explained and gently reached out where the creature could see her hand. She didn’t want to catch it off guard after all- that’s as probably the easiest way to get it to bolt and get lost somewhere else in her garden. She reached out further and further before stopping just short of the lotine. If it wanted to be touched, it had the option of leaning into her.

There was something magical about the sound the little kitten was making. It was soothing and nice. The Lotine enjoyed it even though she was a little surprised and pulled her paws away for a second. In the meantime, the woman had gotten very close to her. Did it want to pet her, just like she wanted to pet the Tailypo? Well, she supposed that would be fine. She gently leaned forward so that her nose touched Fiera's hand. They could be friends.
[Congrats! You've tamed the Lotine.]

Fiera was, of course, more than happy to be friends. Adding another interesting looking critter to her menagerie was always something she was down for. And this lotine was awfully nice to pet. Still, it wouldn’t do to leave it in this part of the garden. Despite its beauty (and the fact that she didn’t have to worry about it eating her berries), Fiera knew it would only get underfoot on her and Hellebore’s berry picking adventure, and thus it would have to go. Thankfully once she made friends with it the critter didn’t put up much of a fight and followed Fiera happily down the path of the garden until she was able to relocate it somewhere where it would have more peace and quiet. After that Fiera made her way back to the berry patch with her tailypo tucked under one arm (though he was trying to escape),

As they got into the berry patch with the baskets, Hellebore finally managed to wriggle from her grasp and land softly, half-caught by Fiera though he dropped from her fingers for those last couple of inches as if he were a liquid dripping through her fingers. Felines. They were weird. Now that that lotine was sorted however, Fiera decided to take stock of the damage done by those feral orbaru. Sure enough, there was a lot of wreckage. There were half eaten raspberries everywhere, scattered across the ground and ruined. Half of the bushes had large holes in them from where the orbaru had made themselves at home, destroying Fiera’s careful pruning. She thought that she would have to make multiple trips to pluck all these berries, but looking at the results of the orbaru reign of terror, she would be surprised if she could even fill up the one basket.
