Well, if she was only going to fill one basket, she might as well get started on it. The humanish sighed and set the basket down before rolling up her sleeves. Hellebore purred softly and began trotting out toward some of the berries that had been smashed on the ground. He sniffed at them curiously and Fiera got to work, keeping half an eye on her tailypo. She searched the bushes carefully, plucking out the berries and hiding them in her hand before putting them in the basket. She didn’t THINK Hellebore would try to steal them, but she wasn’t about to risk it. She had been punished for hubris before, after all. As she worked, she also started pulling out the snapped twigs and broken branches that were now interlaced with the rest of the bush, making it look... well, quite a deal uglier than it was before.

As she pulled the branches out, she tried shaking them off into the basket. A couple of ripe berries plopped into the woven material, but mostly all she gotta was bruised leaves. The humanish clucked her tongue as she threw the branch into the burgeoning pile of them and reached down to pick the leaves out. What a waste this all was so far. Hopefully she’d get enough berries to make it worthwhile, though it was looking like she’d have a lot more work cut out for her than she thought. Once all of the broken branches were pulled out of the bush and stacked as neatly as she could however, she was free to go through the bush and harvest the raspberries. At least that proves to be a quicker task than the last one, if just because the stray orbaru had eaten a lot of them already.

She glanced over at Hellebore too, just to make sure he was doing alright. He was... Hm. Well, he was busy eating as many of the bruised fallen berries as possible, scooping them up in his comparatively huge mouth and swallowing them down with no hesitation at all. Fiera had to admit she hadn’t entirely been paying attention to him and thus didn’t realize that this was how he had been spending his time until now. He was eating them so quickly too, to the point where she wasn’t sure where he was putting them all! She knew that tailypo had more diverse diets than one would think, but this couldn’t be good for him... right? “Hey Hellebore, how about you... come over here, little guy?” She said, reaching out for the iridescent kitten, who was busy chomping down a pile of ruined berries and getting covered in juice.

She gently picked him up, with the tailypo only squeaking irritably as she did so. He didn’t seem hurt, but... she should probably get him checked over anyway. She set him to the side, away from the pile of broken berries he had been working on, and began to pack up her things, she hadn’t meant to leave so soon, but... it was better safe than sorry with this sort of thing. If the veterinarian said he was fine then she’d take their word for it, but for the time being she didn’t want to push her luck with how varied tailypo diets were. Of course, keeping Hellebore from stuffing himself with even more berries proved more difficult than she thought, as the kitten seemed almost to teleport back to his snack every time Fiera turned her head to try and put something else away in her bag.

Needless to say, that made her packing up take quite a while longer than it should have. Eventually (after adjusting Hellebore a few more times- how could one kitten move so FAST?) the humanish managed to get all her stuff together, tucking her basket full of her meager findings up under one arm. It wasn’t much, but if she really stretched it she could use it to make a pie. Maybe. Probably. Fiera had never really done the whole “baking” thing before but really, how hard could it be? And if worst came to worst... she could always feed it to Hellebore, apparently. Speaking of, the tailypo wasn’t thrilled to be shoved back into the basket Fiera had used to bring him in, but his newly full belly made it quite a bit more difficult to fight her. He was a lot heavier now, after all. With all of her ducks now in a row, Fiera headed back home.

Oh, the gardens. Fiera had… admittedly neglected them more than a little bit over the winter. This was fine for most things. Plants didn’t exactly need trimming over the winter, and the annual plants were already dead by late fall anyway. She couldn’t plant anything either- the ground was frozen solid. Still, that meant that Fiera had gotten a little bit lazy, and well… her gardens looked kind of garbage right now. Literally. Winter storms had blown all sorts of crap in, not to mention breaking branches off of her trees and knocking over any structures that weren’t quite literally nailed into the ground. She had popped in a couple times to see the extent of the damage, but hadn’t really had the time to clean any of it up… until now. Sort of. She didn’t want to spend too long here- she had a winter fighting tournament to train for. Fiera 16 Donner 20.1/10.1 1

Donner had been doing a LOT of training for the tournament lately though, and she figured it was as good a time as any to give him a break. Overworking led to injuries after all, and she highly doubted that an injured pet would be winning any fights… or, you know, let into the tournament to start with. The entry managers were surprisingly picky about that sort of thing. Really, you create a bunch of murder monsters, create a murder monster fighting competition, and then be surprised if some people make their monsters murder some things and get a bit banged up right before the fights? Honestly, the nerve of some people. Luckily for them however, Fiera wasn’t one of those idiots. She took IMPECCABLE care of them, she thought to herself as Donner wandered off somewhere into the gardens. Yes, she was truly perfect. A stunning example of murder monster ownership.

She stepped on his leash before he could get too far away however, and slipped it back over her wrist. “You aren’t getting away from me THAT easily, bud.” She said with a wink, only for Donner to huff back at her. It was kind of ironic really, when Fiera thought about it. She was training her pet to be better and better at killing things, and thus more capable of taking HER down as well, but the more time they spent together, the easier it was to manage him. In a certain way it made sense though. Seekers were well known for their… violent tendencies, and when they were young they had no clue how to control them or what to do with them. As Donner became more aware of what weapons he had at his disposal however and how he could use them, the less likely he was to lash out with those things on accident.

This meant that the more fighting moves she taught him, the better behaved Donner became. Not that his personality got any better though. He was just as much of an ornery, easily irritated beast now as he was when she first got him. She supposed that was par the course for seekers though. Fiera had to chuckle when imagining him in his native environment however- she’d imagine his constant growling and hissing would scare away most of his tundra prey, no matter how good his camouflage was. Even now, the snow on the ground scattered between the trees of Fiera’s garden made Donner look right at home, his face, claws and horns the only part of him that had any color and looking just like the garden detritus around them if your eyes brushed over him too quickly. With any luck, that would do him well in The Winter Wonderbrawl.

Fiera had already heard of a few of their future opponents… an equillion, a malii, a wiurn. All pretty standard for tournaments, though so far she had only seen the offspring of other creatures or custom made ones entered. She glanced at Donner- he would probably be one of the few there that had more than one member of their breed. Not that Fiera had ever SEEN another snowtracker seeker mind you… but she knew they existed. Even then though, she knew that Donner would be one of a kind in this tournament, that was for sure. And if she had her way, he would come out of it all on top, too. As sappy as it sounded, she believed in this puffy scrap of fur, regardless of how many things there were out there that looked like him. Now she just needed him to stop eating dead leaves off of the ground.

“Come on, get that out of your mouth.” She hissed with irritation at her dumb idiot seeker. What was that she was saying about believing in him? You know, she just couldn’t remember anymore. The seeker growled in a way that she now knew to be playful as she tried snatching the musty, rotten leaves from his mouth. “Come on! You don’t even eat those, that has to taste nasty! You aren’t a kinoko!” She said, swiping at him again. He bounced away on his feet however and even snapped at her fingers a couple times, a dangerous thing for a creature with teeth that sharp. Clearly he was having a good time, even if that meant just annoying the hell out of Fiera. Fiera groaned loudly. “Fine then!” She said, throwing her hands up. “Make yourself sick! See if I care!” She said, rolling her eyes at her pet.

She did care, of course- if just because she was pretty sure that a seeker with food poisoning wouldn’t be accepted for tournament signups. She glanced over at Donner and he crunched the leaves some more at her pointedly. Fiera hissed quietly and looked away. Fine, if he was going to try and spite her, the best option she had was to ignore him. “Eat as many leaves as you want then, Donner.” She said, checking her nails. “But come on, we’ve got to check the rest of the garden.” She finished, tugging on the seeker’s leash. He trotted along after her, happily munching sloppily on the leaves. Disgusting. Fiera navigated the meadows and fenced off fields of her garden with ease, passing by viewing pools and raised terraces. She had expanded it a lot over time. For an outside observer, it would be easy to get lost, but for Fiera navigation was an effortless affair.

The paths were rather long and winding, but it was nothing that Fiera’s impeccable (by her perception) sense of direction couldn’t handle. Donner kept glancing around however, clearly trying to memorize his surroundings and… probably failing. With everything being so cold and dead it was likely difficult for him to get a good scent of anything, and with all of the annual plants being dead and gone, a lot of Fiera’s gardens looked like empty patches of dead dirt behind dainty, pretty fences. Fiera loved how this place looked in the spring and summer (and even autumn for her deciduous trees), but she had to admit it wasn’t much to look at right now. At least that meant that Donner would be more likely to stick by her, however. After his last gardening experience, he wasn’t eager to flee from Fiera again any time soon. Plants tended to be a little too dangerous for that.
