Please note...- The last date to post your introduction post is 72 hours from this post. Without an introduction post you cannot battle. - Certain moves can't be used in the Pit because of the surroundings and other moves can affect more than one creature at the same time. After all introduction posts have been posted you will be informed whether those two apply to any of your creatures' moves. - That you have 72 hours to post a response to a calculation post and/or roleplay post. The 72 hour deadline is not extended if your foe posts after a calculation post. Not meeting the deadline results in an automatic disqualification. - That characters level once every 20 posts in the Fighting Pit, but pets gain levels and loyalty towards their owners normally.

Rhys hardly remembered what happened near the end of that first fight. He knew he'd lunged---knew that he had won, somehow, when he saw that the healers were attending to the creature he'd fought. He saw the blood on her fur, realized the taste of it lingering on his tongue, and felt sick to his stomach.
He didn't remember the... He didn't remember biting her. Maybe that was a mercy. He didn't try. He shut his eyes against the sight of it and sagged, all the adrenaline draining out of him at once. In its place was an exhaustion that felt bone deep, even though he hadn't been hit. Even though the match hadn't lasted more than a few minutes, if that.
"Are you alright?" said Rabbit, snapping him out of his thoughts. He looked up, feeling almost guilty; he had forgotten all about her in the chaos of the fight. She had picked her way down to the sands, kneeling beside him now. Her hand was outstretched, an offer to carry him.
He leaned his head against her hand. {I think so,} he said. {I just feel... drained.}
"If you need the healers to attend you---"
{No,} he said.
Rabbit observed him a moment longer, and for a moment he thought she might ask him a question he wouldn't know how to answer. But she didn't; in the end she did nothing more but pick him up and take him home.
Before he knew it, they received the notice for their next battle. Rhys stared at the letter dumbly when he saw it arrive in the mail. How excited had he been just a few days ago, seeing that first letter come in the mail?
And now...
"We do not go if you do not wish to," said Rabbit. The idea was tempting. Rhys hadn't been thinking about it, and he hadn't been thinking about how he wasn't thinking about it either. As it turned out, not thinking about things could be plenty tiring all on its own.
Still, he said, {No, I'll go.} It had been his decision to do this, to prove himself, and he knew how it would look if he quit now, after only a single fight. He'd worked hard for this, even if the taste of getting what he wanted turned out to be more bitter than he had thought.
And if his breathing quickened as they walked onto the sands of the Pit once more... Well, familiarity bred contempt, or so he'd heard. Maybe it was just a matter of acclimation.

While the first fight ended up making her feel odd about it, she lost to a little bird after all!
It didn’t make her feel like it was an entire loss either. She learned something from it after all. Even the smallest of beings, can become the mightiest.. somehow.
She still feels a bit dubious about it, and when she hears she’ll need to fight again a day after, she wonders what it will be this time.
Another bird? She’ll surely figure out something to avoid being put to sleep. That, felt like a let down for her, aren’t fights supposed to be bloody? Though, granted. She isn’t exactly of flesh and blood either, so it likely won’t happen to end up being bloody at all.
When Twilight opens the gate for her with a ‘good luck’ she is quick to imitate a sea serpent again, she knows like last time it helped in discouraging her opponent somewhat, but not entirely so much that they aren’t willing to fight.
Still.. She cocks her head to the side in curiosity at the strange looking being. ‘I wonder what they are thinking?’ Tentatively she rises up further from the shadows, folding her wings and waving her clawed hand in a pattern she had seen Twilight use when greeting someone.
She has no idea if the other gets it, and likely assumes it isn’t. But that doesn’t mean she can’t at least try it out one time.
Dropping her clawed hand, she unfolds her wings again, feeling almost ready for anything.

Rhys felt his own pulse quicken as the opponents walked through. Opponent. Singular. The humanoid that accompanied the creature wouldn't be fighting, of course, but he had grown used to paying more attention to them, since they were the ones who could hold a conversation. His gold eyes followed the humanoid as long as they could, before the gates opened and a mass of writhing shadow flooded out of them and onto the sands.
Rhys tensed, crouching slightly, ready to spring away at the slightest provocation. He wasn't sure that he felt ready to fight just yet, but... But then he cocked his head, ears canted back. He knew a threatening display when he saw one, but did... did the shadow just wave at him?
{What---} he began, but cut himself off. In all likelihood, the shadow-thing wouldn't hold a conversation with him. Most creatures couldn't, and didn't like the sensation of him in their heads; and even if they could, this was hardly the time and place.
Still, he couldn't help but feel it nagging at him, even as his gaze turned focused, mind reaching out with a different, suffocating touch.

She cocks her head as she studies her opponent, the strange creature reminds her somewhat of a Faeron, only, something that is different as well.
No twisting tentacles close to the wings, no bits of fur on top of the head. ‘What would this one be capable of?’ Her claws melded for just a moment back into her body as she spreads her wings wide, then seemingly diving into the ground like water and ‘swimming’ around her target as much as the other would let her.
You can hardly expect one to stand still and take it, especially after the first battle has been done and is already over. They’ll know then it is likely to get injured. She herself already got her first taste of it, but she finds it rather easy to recover from it.
She just needs to be in the shade for a long while to gather the strength into being able to reform her body once more. Shadows after all, never cease to exist, the dark exists before the light ever did.
She will laugh at anyone who thinks differently about it.
‘Use Shadow Strike Envix!’ He hears Twilight say in her mind through the link, and this time she feels like agreeing, the shadows are large enough to strike, but perhaps..
Rising up from the shadows she tries to strike at the perfect angle to the largest form of shadows this individual has. Only to just barely not make it as the reflexes of this being are fast enough to avoid it.
Somehow.. She isn’t all that surprised that happened.
The sudden feeling of something touching her mind, something that isn’t related to the ribbon makes her shake away the intruding touch as best as she can, it almost feels like being forced to sleep once more, yet..
It almost feels like there is some other intent behind it as well? Eyes becoming two green glowing slits as concentrates, she tries to grasp it mentally with what little skill she has in it when it comes to her own mind. ‘Hello?’ It almost feels like it is slipping away from her, like water being scooped up with loose fingers just as she tries it out.
The shadows around her writhe as she is more busy focusing on herself mentally, the effect for those faint of heart still something to be intimidated about.

To Rhys's dismay, his attempt at putting his opponent to sleep failed when the shadow creature flinched away. He barely had time to dodge the opponent's strike, flinching sharply to one side. It was just as well that he put a little more distance between himself and the shadow creature; he only realized after the fact that it--- they?--- had been striking at his shadow rather than his body.
He heard the greeting like a small chime in his mind, and paused for a moment, tentative. He was never one to turn down conversation before, but this seemed like a superlatively strange place for it. They were fighting each other, weren't they? And yet, that had been a greeting; and the shadow creature's eyes, when he managed to find them, seemed lucid with intelligence. {If you're trying to get me to lower my guard, it's not going to work,} he said, with rather more bravado than he really felt. As if to emphasize his point, he lunged toward the wraith, this time going for a strike.

She tilts her head a little to the side as the feeling of scooping up water with loose fingers is still there, yet..
Yet when her opponent answers back, she feels gratified in knowing that somehow she was able to establish some form of communication with the other, that the feeling of some other intent behind it was correct.
She isn’t dealing with a simple minded creature here, and that.. That is likely going to make things awkward fast, but as she has only ever been able to talk with her own kind, Twilight and Claw there is also this feeling of deep curiosity on what the other is like and their place in the world. Would they like a good prank just as much as any other Lurker? Or would they shy away from it just as Twilight and Claw do?
‘Envix use Darkness Drain, maybe that will help get a successful attack in?’ She hears Twilight say, but she knows she is going to refute it. The temptation of actually being able to talk to someone else outweighing the feeling of wanting to finish this battle as fast as possible. She has so little opportunity to be able to talk to a new person, that she wants to desperately grasp it with both of her clawed hands. Even if the metaphor lacks that extra substance or weight to it with being who she is, she’s certain it in a way conveys exactly what she means.
‘Lower your guard? You?’ She says in a hauntingly melodic tone of voice that would be hard to place if it is masculine or feminine in tone, but the way it is said, and changing her body language just slightly enough for a moment to make it either sound like she is teasing him, or perhaps mocking him.
The moment she sees he is lunging at her she raises up to her full height, spreading her wings and opening her mouth with many fangs formed that she pretends to snap at him. Trying to make him back away as she hopes to prolong whatever this has become.
‘Hey watch it!’ She snaps and moves out of the way after he lunged at her and failed to bite her, she’s glad in a way that nothing physical can ever touch her. But with it being that the reverse is true as well, makes her hate the fact she will always have to depend on others when she wants to do something simple like picking up a picture book to look into.
It might make her life in some ways, but the things she would enjoy the most, all the harder.
‘I don’t think that is possible, not with how prepared you seem to be in this fight.’ She laughs inside her mind not knowing if he’d hear it, but still doing so as a way to convey how much she is enjoying this as she circles around her opponent again, wondering what he’ll do. Is she even fighting a him though?
‘If you want to know, I go by female pronouns.’ She says, perhaps it might come out of nowhere, but she is curious if despite his warning, he’d still want to just talk and enjoy the moment. ‘And you? What do you prefer to go by?’ It is after all polite to ask. Just because the tone of voice is on the side of masculine and makes her think ‘male’ doesn’t mean it could be true.

Rhys startled, his whole body seizing up, when he felt his jaws close around nothing where they should have caught on flesh. Or... substance, as it were. The revelation that his opponent had none had come too late, and now he was well within reach of their--- her--- attacks. He scrambled to turn, his feet digging into the sand and kicking it up in the wake of his retreat, tail lashing, wings spread as he gathered speed. With a leap, he launched himself aloft, those same wings beating a rapid rhythm as they carried him upwards. He needed distance. He needed to think...
He didn't know how much attention he ought to be giving to the opponent's words. She was obviously intelligent, he could sense that much, but for that reason, it was possible that she had some other purpose in mind. But the conversational tone she used confused and intrigued him, and despite his better judgement, he said, {I... I'm a male, but...} What she could do with that information was beyond him. {Why are you fighting here anyway? Do you... enjoy it?}

She pauses her thoughts as she watches him leap in the sky, and use those strange wings of his to make it possible. Its almost as if he is trying to get as far away from her as possible.
At least it seems her first thoughts were correct in him being male. She tilts her head a little to the side.
A nervous one perhaps too, if his tone is anything to go by. Yet..
He wasn’t like that previously. Though, he likely didn’t expect her to continue the conversation either.
She is just lucky enough that he doesn’t seem willing to break the connection yet, she has no doubt at all that if he does that, she wouldn’t even be able to talk to him anymore. She doesn’t have that type of skill to back her up as far as communication goes.
She isn’t sure either if body language will convey her thoughts adequately enough to communicate to someone else either, but it could be something she could look into she supposes.
She can form her body however she wants to within reason, surely that would make certain things possible as well.
‘I am here to prove myself, I wish to see just how strong I am currently.’ She wonders what his reasons are, but seeing him use his wings almost makes her itch to use her own.
Which wouldn’t be helpful in this fight, she knows that much.
Diving in the ground and going up again she tries to find the perfect angle once more without hopefully making her opponent aware of what she is planning to do.
‘As for enjoying it.’ She continues while looking up in the sky. ‘I certainly enjoy myself immensely now that I can finally talk to someone else besides my..’ How does one describe the relationship she has with Twilight and Claw? Certainly a more complicated one. She doesn’t believe in ownership either, but if they ever talk like that to her.. well.. She wonders if she should start making her pranks deadly against them at one point in order to make them think twice against such thoughts. She is no one’s pet.
‘Partners or kin.’ She decides on. They are too different to be considered in her mind as one entity, even if they share one body without talking about what the other does in the times they are away.
Which, while strange, isn’t something she thinks she should commentate about, not until they start it. That’s the polite thing to do isn’t it?
‘What about you? Why are you here?’ She asks idly, she’s almost at the perfect angle when she sees his shadow, so tempting..
Or should she follow Twilight’s advise and try to drain it? Hmm..
‘I never once thought I would fight against someone on my level of intelligence, or that they would be able to keep up.’ For he certainly has some very nice reflexes to avoid her attacks, she’s certain her next one will likely be dodged as well.
‘So I am glad it is you I am fighting against.’ She lunges at him. ‘The name’s Envix, remember it!’ She says with a high tone of excitement thrumming through the haunting melodic one.

For a moment, Rhys was struck by the similarity in their goals. He hadn't thought he would have anything in common with someone like her, who seemed to revel in the fighting, while he was struggling just to get his bearings and not get hit. But then... if she had a will of her own, and no one was coercing her by threat or by bribe, he supposed the options left were few indeed. Pride, maybe. Or, as Aster seemed to think, foolhardiness and impatience.
Something fiercer guttered in him for a moment. {I'm here to prove myself too,} Rhys declared. {To prove that I'm not weak, that I don't need to be protected---}
But he had let down his guard after all. He didn't notice until it was too late--- and then pain, white hot, lacerated through his mind. Rhys let out a strangled cry, and the beating of his wings faltered for a moment. Muscle memory alone kept him aloft, but even as the first shock of pain ebbed, he found that he could not move. It was as though he were being crushed to the ground, even though he was still aloft in the air.
{What... What is this...}

She grips his shadows harder when she finally got ahold of them, her surprise at finally capturing the ones she was aiming for at the ground evident enough that Twilight likely got to feel it for a flash as well. ‘Good job Envix!’ For she commentated on it with a sudden foreign feeling of delight she knows is not her own she can feel at that moment.
It distracted her enough to let go as she tries to shake off those feelings, it’s been getting easier to give and receive these feelings of them both lately, but for some reason she can tell it is not yet the full thing they are experiencing.
Hearing her opponent’s words reminds her that she is still in a fight, one she doesn’t want to lose -if anything, she has the need to prove herself now even more when hearing how similar their goals are in a way.
‘From what I can tell,’ She says while narrowing her eyes at him, wondering if she might succeed this time as well. ‘your strong in your own way. Those reflexes of yours after all,’ Though she doubts it would be easy, not now that he might grab his chance to fly higher if possible and make the remaining shadows on the ground smaller. ‘are hard to beat.’
She knows intellectually that she is weak in being able to defend herself against the elemental attacks that use a more physical presence against her, but that doesn’t discourage her from trying her very best to still beat them down in her own way to prove she can be strong.
‘I’m certainly having a hard time pinning you down in one place. What do you need protecting for anyway?’ She comments, hoping to encourage him in her own strange way and wondering if the sentiment would be appreciated by him.
She tilts her head a little to the side as she looks up, feeling just the slightest amused at his words. ‘What this is you say? Why, don’t you know? Shadows exists everywhere!’ She says with a certain delight that might make the tones she speaks in just a bit more creepier perhaps.
Would this make him get nightmares in the end? Make him fear ever getting so near shadows again? Twitchy at shadows of other beings because they move?
She both hopes not, and does in a way. For that would be the prank of all ages won’t it? She certainly hasn’t accomplished getting Twilight so twitchy about it yet, not compared to Claw who is still slightly distrustful. Even if they reconciled with the event she played a part in.
But that might just be her mere presence, and not the shadows in general perhaps.
Angling herself the best way possible again as his shadows move once more, she wonders why Twilight seems to hold off on advising what she should do. Is she feeling that it would be best to let her decide on her own with what she should do?
Her form shrinks for a moment as she almost ducks in the ground. That would certainly be humbling to have that trust in her she thinks while fidgeting slightly.
Rising up from the ground she looks for the shadows of her opponent once more. Just need to be a bit closer..
‘What is your name?’ She asks while wondering if he would even give it to her like she did already, and hoping it might distract him a little from her earlier outburst of what she teased him with. ‘What does it stand for?’ She pauses as she comes in the perfect distance to lunge at his shadows once more. ‘My own is a distorted form of ‘Infix’, but Infix on what? I can’t say yet, for I do not know.’ Hopefully her comment about her own name distracted him enough, for she lunges once more at his shadow, hoping to pin him down before he could escapes her grasp.
