For now, it was noted as a 'runner'. A vague descriptor, but.. That was the best he had. What could he say? It could run! And that's all he could really tell about it. As far as diet, there were specialized, growth-promoting foods that were advertised as specifically for these strange, revived ancient creatures.. But aside from that, this little one seemed to eat just about anything it could catch. Bugs, leaves, fingers. It didn't have a ravenous appetite, but it did eat a good amount of whatever it was offered. The young creature had a lot of room to grow, or so it was theorized. There was much mystery regarding the revived fossils. Nobody really knew what would come forth from this newly released field of research. Which made it all the more exciting for the leopard to participate in. Close nurture and care was what the researchers advised when it came to rearing the young creatures.

Otherwise, they'd stagnate. An interesting concept, but one that wasn't farfetched for a lot about the creatures of this place. Lotine relied on a close bond with their keepers to produce better quality lola. Golems outright needed to bind their 'heart' with a person to thrive at all. So the idea of these ancient creatures brought back to life needing careful nourishing and affection was along the same lines of things the leopard was already accustomed with. He didn't have any particular plan for the little runner, when he thought of it.. It might grow to be an excellent companion of sorts. He had a lot of creatures that filled that role in his heart. It might be fit for battle.. But he already had plenty of giant beasts more fit. For now, he figured it would be a great research project, much like the golems. Studying things satisfied that nagging curious itch of his.

As much as he enjoyed the protective elemental lumps, they took a tremendous amount of time to care for.. And he had far too many other creatures in his personal menagerie to have the golems monopolize his time for so long. After achieving his goal of creating the glass variant, he felt much more free to spend time with other creatures, which was almost jarring to do after engaging only with the golems. He'd still need to go back and finish his work, eventually.. But! He had something new to occupy himself with now. The runner-saur, which he'd named Zhyre, had moved on to exploring a pile of pillows. Its bright cyan crest poked out from the seams, revealing its location like a little beacon. The leopard found that crest to be his favorite feature of the creature - it reminded him of the wiurn's headplate. And wiurn were his favorite creature produced by the labs, by far.

You walk along in peace, accompanied by your companion, until... thump! You turn around, startled, to see a hole in the ground that you are certain was not there before. What kind of trickery is this? Worse than your surprise is the disappearance of your pet. They must have fallen down!
[Your pet is lost! It cannot be roleplayed for the next 5 posts while you find it!]

Ah, he could get lost in thought about the wonderful wiurn. The original version, preferably. The 'new and improved' version of the species simply didn't have the same charm as the originals. The top four favored beasts of his personal menagerie were all specially produced by the labs. One of fire, one of water, one of winter, and one of magic. An odd thematic assortment, but one that suited him just fine. Nazura was his unspoken favorite. Stubborn, temperamental, but still loving in his own way. Alerios would be the one he'd tell others was his favorite. Fluffy, majestic, gentle natured.. They all had a special place in his heart, of course, as did all the beloved creatures of his keep. Xentus sighed with content, flipping through the pages of his journal to his first recordings about the wyverns. He owned a good handful of the near-dragons; he'd been meaning to establish some kind of sanctuary for them.

Or a conservatory? The wiurn were short lived creatures, as far as he knew. Which was an unfortunate trend for creatures of the lab. There were a good handful of 'extinct' species; the original wiurn and elemental golems were among them. It was a shame there was little done to preserve the creatures. Instead the lab made 'improvements' to their creations to outcompete their predecessors and aid in their demise. A practice which was not favored by the leopard. He grumbled under his breath and flipped through the journal, trying to find something more heartwarming to read. His research was mostly on the behavioral patterns of his beasts, preferred foods, interesting abilities, as well as some crude sketches of their anatomy. Ah, here was an entry about Mizura! How she was so shy at first, but still playful, squirting water at his face to tease him into splashing her back.

The leopard chuckled, thinking back on it. Mizura grew to be more mischievous, though reserved. The semi-aquatic wiurn enjoyed the company of its little pond - a small turtle - and not much else. He'd need to find the time to bond with the beast some time. Perhaps at the river, given that the rainy season was coming soon. Mizura would love that. A smile plastered itself on the leopard's face; he was looking forward to bonding with that one. He'd spent plenty of time with Alerios as of late in an attempt to prepare him for the upcoming tournament - even bringing him to the mansion none too long ago. Nazrua and Kryio were ones that he hadn't gotten around to.. When the time came, he'd get Nazura mount trained and Kyrio magic trained. But unfortunately, having an expansive menagerie meant little time to spend with everyone. He was already spread thin regarding the golems..

But he created Astraea and Atlas as a result! And they were perhaps the two creatures he was the most proud of. Astraea was genuinely one of the most fascinating beings - born of three different elements which eventually combined to one. A long and tedious process, but very worth it. He was looking forward to spending more time with both golems soon enough. Atlas had been neglected lately, but at least it wasn't sentient. Astraea hated when he went anywhere without her, on the other hand. A sigh escaped the leopard. He was getting tied down by all these creatures, wasn't he? He never would expected that life would take him to such a strange place, with such a strange culture about it. Keeping and maintaining creatures, spending time with them, entering them in contests and battles. It was all so much. Every last bit of it satisfied his wanderlust that it stopped nagging him.

It was still there, yes.. Everpresent. But its yearning call was quieted to the point of inaudible. And he couldn't remember the last time he could live freely without that nagging itch. The journal was flipped back to the more recent pages. Ah, there was his records of Mira and her winning streak in the last tournament. Together, he and the mosca were undefeated! That was an accomplishment that he felt a little bad to be smug about. His mentality regarding the pit had changed - now he was looking forward to testing his creatures there. Well, rather testing the quality of his training. At the expense of his pet's wellbeing, yes, but he solidified his stance on the matter and no longer felt so guilty about it. He was hoping to keep that undefeated streak, but there was no telling what could happen in the next event. The man looked up, finished with his reminiscing. Now, where had that little dinosaur wandered to?

The big bundle of fluffy pillows where he last saw the little thing seemed to be vacant. A curious hum escaped the man. "Zhyre?", he called out. It couldn't have gotten too far from him, could it? It wasn't exactly as fond of him as some of the other creatures he'd brought to this place, but he was hoping to help nurture a bond with it here. The leopard yawned as he stood up from his comfortable spot on the carpet, then walked over to the pillow bunch. A few were pulled out of the way to reveal a cozy cavity beneath, but no dino. How about the bunch of plushies.. The man's keen eyes scanned the fluffy assortment of soft plush toys, catching a peculiar looking white and cyan figure among them. An imposter. A chuckle escaped the man as he rounded over to the pile and got a closer look at the small creature, who seemed to be fast asleep. "Hey, Zhyre.."

Ah, had he spent that much time daydreaming? Or was the little critter prone to napping? He preferred to believe the latter. Young ones did like their sleep, and he couldn't fault anyone for taking the occasional catnap. A gentle hand rubbed the dino's crest. "Zhyre", the leopard murmured. Its bleary little brown eyes blinked open as it returned to the world of the waking. With a yawn and a stretch, the creature clambered out of its warm hiding spot and onto the plush carpet. "Ah, aren't you a cute little one, Zhyre?", the man asked, tilting his head at the small creature. He sat himself down cross-legged before it, rifling through his pack for something it would eat. The dinosaur wasn't too interested in the man's words until he waved around a delicious smelling treat. Now he was worth paying a little more attention to! "That's it, good Zhyre", the man cooed as he gave up the meat-flavored sphere.

The white little dino grabbed the treat and skittered off a few paces away to eat its meal in peace. It didn't trust that the man wouldn't take away the very thing he had given it. That was quite alright by the leopard, they'd get used to one another with time - and at the little dino's pace. Thankfully, a bit of food did the trick to help things along. Xentus let the creature return to roaming as it pleased, scribbling down the occasional note in his journal when something came to mind. At the moment, he wanted to makes notes about its attentiveness.
"Zhyre", he called after a few minutes, "Hey, Zhyre." The creature was a little occupied chewing on a plastic ring, but perked up for a moment when the man made some noise. "Good Zhyre! Want a treat, Zhyre?", Xentus offered as he pulled out another delicious treat-sphere from the capsule.

More snacks? It couldn't refuse that. The white dinosaur pattered over for its reward and ran off with it immediately. It had little interest in loitering near the leopard, but plenty of interest in food. Xentus just chuckled and jotted down some notes. 'Shy, but not unfriendly', he wrote, 'has a good appetite'. This was a demeanor he could work with - food motivated creatures were the best kind to teach. Toys might work too once the tiny beast was too full for more snacks. After it finished its treat, it returned back to mouthing the various children's toys strewn around. Its next target was a plastic purple egg - which was proving to be a little too round and malleable to chomp. "Zhyre", Xentus cooed sweetly, hoping to garner its attention again. The little dinosaur struggled with the egg for another couple of seconds, then looked up at the man. Did he have more food?

"Yes, good Zhyre!", the man praised, tossing a halved treat toward the creature. He didn't want to fill it up too much too soon, nor did he want its name to be solely associated with food. That would be the last little snack for now, until their next lesson. The white little dinosaur pounced on the food and bit into it with reckless abandon, immediately forgetting about the egg it was just tussling with. Xentus chuckled at the sight, shaking his head. So full of energy. He was almost envious, he was a little out of his prime for so much bouncing and running. "Zhyre", Xentus called once the creature was finished, "Enjoy the snack, Zhyre?" It looked up from the chew toy it was gnawing on and tilting its head at the man, trying to figure what he wanted now. He flashed a toothy smile, glad to have its attention for a moment, but left it to to its gnawing and teething.
