Seeing how excited Malin was made Silver smile. They had made the right choice to bring her here today. While they couldn't explain the feeling that drove them to think of her, they believed in it strongly. Things like that didn't often happen to them for no reason. Maybe they were just imagining the reason, but they felt strongly about it nonetheless.
Kigo jumped with surprise as Silver squatted down in front of him. He rubbed his face with his paws to make sure that he wasn't seeing things. Ah! A person. He hid behind his paws and stuck out his antlers as a warning. Don't eat me! Silver laughed a soft laugh. They just couldn't help it! He was being incredibly cute and they knew of course that he was not in any real danger.
What an interesting creature! He had wings just like hers! Malin wanted to get closer and inspect them. She tugged on Silver's hair and pointed at the ground. She could probably just jump down from there, but she wanted to ask if it was okay first, especially because she was unsure whether or not the creature was dangerous. She was certain that Silver wouldn't allow her to pet a creature that was dangerous.

"Oh, forgive my terrible manners," Silver said. "Malin, this is Kigo. Kigo, this is Malin." They held out their paw toward Kigo to demonstrate how they would introduce one person to another. Malin didn't know these sorts of things, so they made an effort to show her whenever they could. They hoped that she would pick some of it up over time and that if she ever had to introduce someone, she would do the same.
"Ki..." Malin struggled to get the rougher second syllable out. She was not very good at talking yet. "Kiho!"
"Very good, Malin. Kigo." Silver repeated the name so that she could hear it again and make another attempt if she wanted to. She didn't. Instead, she wanted to get down there and look at his wings and fluffy mane! Even though the small creature was huge compared to her, she was not afraid of him. Instead she was mostly curious. The same could not be said of him, however. He was utterly terrified for a couple of moments before he figured out what was going on. Since he wasn't immediately eaten or swept away by a huge predator, he relaxed a little and peeked out from between his claws. Was the coast clear now?

"Kiho! Kiho!" Malin said. She fluttered her wings with excitement again. She liked the sound of his name when she said it. It was a very good name indeed. Instead of waiting for permission forever, she hopped down off Silver's shoulder toward the ground. She used her small wings to catch herself as she fell even though she didn't know fully how to fly yet. That was another thing that Silver would need to show her now that she was fully grown.
Kigo went from terrified to curious rather quickly. He dropped his claws out of his face so that he could take a good look at Malin. She was so brightly colored that he couldn't tear his attention away from her. His big red eyes sparkled with wonder. What was going on here today? He had only just woken up, too.
"Play nice, Malin," Silver said. They didn't think that she was going to hurt Kigo, but since he was still quite nervous they wanted to make sure that she didn't unintentionally terrify him. If she somehow managed to startle him, he could possibly hurt her given the size difference and all. They were only mostly sure that wouldn't happen, so they kept a close eye on the two of them just in case.

The wind blows softly as the two pets get to know each other. What a beautiful day... if only you could find some plants!

"Kiho Kiho!" Malin cheered again. They might regret teaching her that eventually, but they still thought it was cute. They watched out of the corner of their eye in case they had to intervene. When it came to their Harachiu, they didn't like to take any risks. They were so delicate and small that even something as usually harmless as Kigo could really hurt them.
Kigo was curious about this new little person. She had lovely aqua parts and a bright orange top. It was so pretty. He reached a claw out and blinked a few times as if he was trying to greet her. She smiled at this, clearly thinking he was cute, too. She wondered what he felt like. She reached out her hands to grab his claw so they could get the formality out of the way. "Nicumeechu, Kiho," she said.
"Very good," Silver responded almost automatically. It was so nice to hear her saying something resembling real words that they were willing to give away the fact that they had been watching her the whole time. Malin blushed and looked away from Silver. She didn't realize they were listening, though it was obvious once it became apparent.

Silver realized that Malin was still a bit shy around them, so they scooted over in the garden to look at another plant. The life in the gardens was really starting to blossom with the new season. They were pleased to see how far along it was coming. They had been coming here a lot to clear their head and clear some weeds at the same time. It was starting to look like a real, proper garden again. It was almost something to be proud of, but not yet. Maybe when it was in full bloom they could invite a friend over to show it off. Some day.
Kigo looked offended when Malin pulled away. He was so close to touching her! Why didn't she want to be touched? Kigo didn't really understand what was going on, but they weren't an aggressive creature, so they left her alone. He stretched out all the way and yawned widely. That was such a good nap that they had! They twitched their tail a bit and decided to investigate a nearby flower. Malin looked over her shoulder a few times, because she was still very curious about Kigo even if she didn't want Silver to see that she was.

Where did all these weeds come from? Silver felt like they were always pulling up weeds. It was mindless work, which allowed them to reflect on their life and to make a few new little friends along the way. They hoped that Malin would enjoy their little garden outing, too. She was such a sweet and pure little one. It made them smile just to think about. The pure way she looked at Kigo with curious golden eyes almost reminded them of themvelves.
"Kiho," Malin said again. She wanted Kigo to look at her, so she said his name. The only problem was that he didn't really know his name other than her saying it a lot right before. Ah well, she tried at least. She took a few tentative steps toward him. She really wanted to feel that green fur on his chest. It was really cute!
Kigo was busy yawning and stretching, so he didn't notice how close Malin got to him. When he turned his head and saw her, he made a loud and sudden squeak of surprise. The fur on his back puffed out like the tail of a scared cat and his eyes went wide. Everything about him said, 'don't do that to me!'

Appearing much bigger by puffing out fur and lashing a tail was the oldest trick in the book, but it worked on Malin. She stumbled backwards in shock. She hadn't meant to scare him! He was so big now, standing there with his fur puffed out and buzzing his wings threateningly. Was he going to hurt her? "Kiho, Kiho no no."
That was enough to finally get Silver's attention. To someone of their size, the little aggressive display by the Spriteling was just... cute. Still, they understood how frightening it must be for her, so they chose to intervene. They moved closer to Kigo and ran their paw down his back. At first he jumped at the feeling of something touching him, but he quickly relaxed. He loved pets! He pressed his head into Silver's palm and made a soft sound of contentment.
"Do you want to pet him, too?" Silver asked. They saw how interested she was in him. She didn't say anything, but instead nodded. She took a few wobbly steps forward before gaining momentum and stopping aright at Silver's side. Then she reached out to touch Kigo's enticing green fur. She beamed with the feeling of it running through her fingers.

"It's nice, isn't it?" Silver said, taking delight in her smile. The way she enjoyed petting him was so incredibly pure and innocent. It made them want to slow down and enjoy the small things more. This must be how Koda felt watching his children grow over the years. Surely they had felt this feeling before, but they relished it nonetheless.
Now that it seemed like the two of them were getting along, Silver was content to go back to their flowers. There were so many things to do, and they couldn't keep getting distracted like this! Of course they absolutely would continue to get distracted, but they didn't mind that much, especially not if it was going to keep being so cute.
Malin found Kigo's wings mesmerizing. They were so much like hers, but also so different. She slowly stopped petting his mane in order to stare at the way the light filtered through them. It was so fascinating! She wanted to know more, like what they felt like. That didn't seem like a good idea, though, considering her last attempt to get close to him without Silver's help. Instead, she was content to stand there and watch them for a while.

It seemed like there was always work to do around here. Was it just them, or did the weeds grow unnaturally fast around here? For that matter, the flowers grew unnaturally fast, too. After being away for a while, the difference felt so prominent. They had gotten used to it before but coming back after a while brought up a lot of old feelings about just how strange this place they called home really was. Not to mention the strange little magical creature and cute tiny fairy people!
Kigo got bored quickly when Silver and Malin both stopped petting him. So he went over to Silver's side and lazily flopped against them. He hoped that this would get him some petting action, but either way they were now touching which was nice, too. He liked being close to someone even if they didn't know each other that well.
Malin was sad to see that her friend left, but did think he had a good point. What was Silver doing over there? It made her curious, so she went over to check it out. She stood about a foot away from the flowers they were tending and watched silently.

Silver took notice of Kigo flopping over onto one of their shoes, but they didn't change what they were doing. They couldn't always drop everything they were working on to pet creatures! They already didn't get enough done around here. They would probably give in eventually, but for the moment, they were happy to keep pulling on weeds and brushing dirt off of important flowers. It wasn't hard work, but it needed to be done. They could get to the really tough stuff later.
Well, Kigo's plan hadn't worked. He didn't win himself any pets! That was disappointing but he didn't really care. He just rolled over, exposing his belly and closing his eyes. Maybe a little nap would be nice. It was such a lovely day outside, after all. He could soak up all the sunshine.
"Heya Malin," Silver said softly, noticing that she was watching. "Do you want to help me with the flowers?" Malin nodded. She shyly got a little closer to the flowers so that she could inspect them. They were still wrapped up as little buds and had not yet unfolded into fully fledged flowers. They were so fresh and new with the coming spring. She found it strangely beautiful.

"See this flower here?" Silver asked turning the bud toward Malin with a gentle paw. She nodded, so they continued. "It'll bloom soon, it's called... ah actually I can't remember what it's called, but I think it's going to be a colorful flower that smells very sweet. I think. Do you know how to say that, flower?"
"Fower." Malin said with a smile and a nod. She seemed very confident in her pronunciation.
"Yes, very good, flower," Silver repeated as had become habit when dealing with creatures who were still learning common. It must be so frustrating to not be able to say what she was thinking. They talked all the time! Even when there wasn't someone to listen. There must have been a time when they didn't know how, but they definitely didn't remember that. Most people didn't.
They shifted their weight while displaying another flower, causing Kigo to flop over onto his side. He had been propped up by their leg and when they moved, he fell over in surprise. He looked around like he didn't really know what had happened, but then just settled back into his new resting spot. There wasn't much to worry about here.

"Kiho," Malin giggled softly. It was clear that she thought his floppy, lazy demeanor was really cute by the way she grinned at him. "Oh, fower, fower," Malin nodded and pointed. She wanted to hear more about the flowers! Not get distracted by silly floppy fluffy creatures. She and Silver had that in common.
"Do you want to know about this one?" Silver asked, indicating a new type of flower that they hadn't been working on weeding yet.
"This one fower!" Malin repeated with a nod. It wasn't as much about the flowers themselves, but the way Silver spoke about them. It was engaging and she liked the attention. Plus, they seemed so happy when they were doing it that she really wanted to encourage that.
"Well this one is a bunch of small flowers that all bloom at once. Do you see all the little buds here that will become flowers soon?" Silver waved Malin over so that she could look more closely at the plants. She walked over close to the flower with the many little buds and reached out to touch one. The one she grabbed for promptly snapped loose of the stem and fell to the ground.

"Oh," Malin said with a frown. She grabbed the little bud off of the ground and tried to put it back on the stem. She let go of it, and it just fell again. She frowned deeper and picked it up again. "No," was all she could say, as she didn't have the words to vent her frustration. She tried to hand it to Silver, waving it all around.
"It's okay Malin," Silver said in their most calm voice. They could see how upset she was and they didn't want to encourage that or deny it. Some things just had to be. "It won't go back. It's broken now, and it will wither away. That's okay, because you've made room for new life now. See here, where it's still green? A new bud will grow."
Malin relaxed her frown and looked at the bud in her hands once again. Finally, she let it roll out of her hands to the ground. While she might not have understood everything they had said, she did realize that she wouldn't be able to fix it, and neither would they. She kicked some dirt over the bud and went on to see if there was something else to do. She glanced back at Kigo and noticed that he still hadn't moved a muscle. What a funny, lazy creature he was!
