Looks like a cherry or two is ready to be gathered!

"Do you want to help the flower grow?" Silver asked. Malin looked at them, then at the flower, but didn't seem to understand the question very well. "Help the flower?" they repeated, hoping she would catch on this time. She nodded and watched what they were doing very carefully.
"Here you go, pull this," Silver pointed to a weed in the ground. "Pull, pull!" Malin looked at the plant, then back to Silver, then back to the plant again. She didn't want to pull up that plant! She liked all the plants. Why did some of them get to stay, and some had to go away? She couldn't say any of that, though, so she just frowned and shook her head.
"Alright, you don't have to do the hard stuff if you don't want," Silver laughed lightly. They weren't trying to convince her to do all the weeding or anything, but they did think she would be more interested. Not that it mattered too much. It only took them a few seconds to pull out the smaller weeds that she'd be able to handle, anyway. She was looking back at Kigo again, clearly more interested in him than any of this hard gardening stuff.

"That's okay, Malin," Silver said softly. "You can play with Kigo if you want. You can choose to do what you want, I am not mad." They wanted to be sure to let her know she was free to do whatever she liked. Maybe they were projecting a little. They sometimes wished that others told them it was okay when they were uncertain, so they would do the same for her.
A cherry had fallen from a nearby tree, and the bright red color caught Malin's attention. She wandered over to it while making sure that she didn't get too far from Silver. As much as she wanted to explore, she didn't feel save in the big world without them nearby. She grabbed a small cherry and held it up so that they could see it.
"Nice find!" Silver praised with a smile. She shook the cherry again like she wanted something else. "Bring it over, and we can try it," they said. Malin shook her head. She didn't want to eat it, she wanted to know what it was called! All of the talking made Kigo finally get up and wander over to see what everyone was up to. He plunked down next to Silver who noticed him but didn't say anything.

There was just one problem. She didn't know how to ask what something was called. She frowned, looked at the cherry, and tried to think of how she could use the words she did know to ask. She ran over to Silver and Kigo, nearly stumbling over a twig on the ground but saving herself at the last sentence. "Kiho," she said pointing at him. Kigo looked at her since she said his name. "Kiho," she pointed again. Then she silently pointed to the cherry. If this is called Kigo, what is this called?
"Ah?" Silver tilted their head like a puppy trying to figure out a puzzle. They were completely unaware they were doing it. "Oh! This is a cherry. It's called Cherry." They repeated the word as slowly and carefully as they could manage. They were actually pretty impressed with her cleverness, and they hoped that she would clue in to the 'it's called' wording they used. If not, they could repeat it again later and maybe she would pick up on it. So far she had been doing very well at learning new things!
"Cerry," Malin said with a nod. Since she wasn't used to speaking common, some of the words were hard for her to form at first. Some sounds didn't come as naturally as others.

"That's right," Silver said. "It's called cherry." They repeated the 'called' bit hoping that it would stick in her brain and she'd be able to ask a better version of that question next time. If not, well, she was pretty clever, they were sure she'd figure it out no matter what.
"It's for eating," Silver said after a moment of watching her stare at it. She didn't seem to know what it was supposed to be, so they offered that tidbit. "Except there's a hard part inside, don't eat that." They didn't think she could accidentally swallow a pit at her size, but they didn't want to find that out the hard way either.
Malin considered what they said for a moment, then tried to break the cherry in half with her hands. It took a couple of tries, but she did manage. There was a strange stone in the middle. She pulled it out and chucked it aside. Then she held out one half to Kigo. "Kiho cerry," she said. Kigo sniffed gingerly at the fruit. It smelled like food, so he ate it without being very careful. Malin yanked her hand back in a hurry, not wanting to be bitten by accident.

Silver just laughed quietly instead of trying to turn that into a lesson or something. They really needed to remember not to baby her too much. She had to learn things for herself, like that animals would often snap at food, and that cherries were edible. They could only imagine having to learn so many things all over again. They must have learned it all once, but they couldn't remember that. Could anyone?
Malin watched as Kigo devoured his little piece of the cherry, leaving a little red stain on the fur around his mouth. He liked it so much that she must like it, too! She stuffed her piece in her mouth all at once as well. It was hard to chew and swallow since it was almost too big for her head. It was also sour! She scrunched up her face. She hadn't been expecting it to taste like that!
Silver watched on for a moment with a smile. They really weren't getting any real gardening done with these two. That was alright, though. They weren't looking to work super fast. Simply spending some time in the garden looking at the flowers and picking up the occasional homegrown fruit was good enough. Maybe they could even find a fruit as big as their head!

There was a never ending list of things to be done in the garden. It seemed like no time at all since spring had come and nearly gone, and now they had to prepare for the summer harvest. They were having trouble remembering what, exactly, they were supposed to do, but they often went into the gardens without a plan. They were sure that things would sort themselves out, and as long as they made plenty of space and cared for the plants, everything would be fine. When they got the the gardens, they were greeted by one of their largest creatures, a giant fire breathing tree dragon known as Kenru. He wiggled his claws toward his wing as if to ask Silver to scratch him there. They shrugged and did as he asked. Where his wing met his back, there were some kind of tiny buds forming that must have been causing the itch. 31[107.6, 4.2] [Silver casts Sever Bond.]

"Wait," they said, pulling their paw away. They got the sudden feeling that they weren't meant to be doing that. They didn't want to damage the little buds, and something about them looked familiar.
"Oh!" they exclaimed aloud. Dragonoaks were fertile during this time of the year, and they could produce magical acorns with unknown properties. Silver beamed. They would have to keep a close eye on Kenru in case he dropped any. Just so he wouldn't get sad, they scratched him on the arms and belly to satiate his itchiness.
"It's good to see you," they said. "Do you want to help me with the weeding?" It was unlikely that Kenru would be any real help, but he did make a decent companion. They would be happy to spend some time with him while getting their chores done. If he just so happened to drop one of those super cool and rare magical acorns, that would be nice too.

Kenru was a sweet, gentle creature, which made sense as he had little to be afraid of. He was the undisputed 'king' of the little garden which he called home, or at the very least, he was the tallest and strongest. He watched over the others and chased out intruders with his breath of fire. In turn, the other creatures grew to respect him, except for maybe Cepe. Cepe didn't really listen to anyone.
"You know, maybe you could help me out," Silver mused aloud. That fire breath sure would make quick work of some of the underbrush. They shook their head. That was a terrible idea! They could easily set the whole place on fire, and the creatures here were especially vulnerable to it. Why did they even think of that in the first place? They needed to get to work, lest they think up some other terrible scheme. The only way to get anything done was to work, and that's what they were going to do.

"Actually, scrap that," Silver said with a shrug. Kenru hadn't been following the conversation, so he didn't change expressions. They looked around as if trying to grab on to something to move on to.
"I'm going to tend the lavender, what do you think?" they finally said. Regardless of what Kenru thought, they went over to the bed where the lavender was growing. It was so overgrown that it looked like it was going to jump right out and start taking over other sections of the garden. It would definitely need to be cut back and maintained so that it could grow the best flowers possible in the near future. While it seemed cruel to take down less healthy parts of plants in order to foster the rest, it was better than letting all of the plants struggle to survive. Still, they occasionally felt bad for an ugly plant and put it aside to nurture it back to health. Some things never changed.

When Silver kneeled down to get to work with the lavender sprigs, Kenru bent down next to them. He snorted into the freshly formed buds on one of the flowers. A small trail of smoke left his nostril. Silver gave him a look as if to say 'don't you dare set that on fire,' but they didn't say anything. They wanted to encourage Kenru to explore and see what was around. Though surely, since he lived here, he had already smelled all the flowers. Maybe he didn't do that when they weren't around. They had no idea.
They shrugged at the Dragonoak and got back to work. They dumped their tool bag out onto the grass and pulled out a trowel and some secateurs. They started by pulling some of the dead foliage with their hands and only pulled out the pruning scissors when they needed to go through a thicker stem. Since they had been working on an off during the early part of the season, there wasn't actually that much in need of pruning.

You squeeze down with the pruning scissors, and... they fall apart in your hand! Upon closer inspection, it looks like some of the screws and springs came loose over time. It's an easy fix, but it's going to take you a bit!

Silver was looking forward to having some lavender springs to carry around with them, but their hopes were instantly dashed when the secateurs fell apart in their hands. "That was unfortunate," they muttered as they looked down at the tool. It was so reliable all this time! They fiddled with the spring and screws that held them together, thinking that they could possibly fix it. Now if only they had a screwdriver or something around to help them put it back together.
Kenru poked his head really close to Silver's hands and let out a snort, which startled them and caused them to jump. They had almost forgotten that he was there since they were so focused on the pruning. They patted him on the head and looked back down only to realize that they didn't have the pruning scissors in their hands any more. They sighed and started pressing around in the grass to look for them.

Seeing Silver look around in the grass for the missing pieces of their broken secateurs, Kenru pressed his nose into the grass too and started snuffling around. He stretched his neck as far out as he could, snuffling far and wide until he eventually stretched too far and flopped down into the grass. He yawned widely and rolled over so his belly was in the air and he had absolutely crushed all the grass and plant life where he had been standing. Silver sighed again, but decided to deal with him later.
Eventually, they found the tool, but now the misplaced spring was entirely gone. Of course it was. They had no choice but to do the pruning by hand until they could replace it. There might have been a way to work a screw in without a screwdriver, but they couldn't replace a whole spring with twigs and expect it to work. Or well, they could, but they decided to try something else instead.
