"Sounds good," Silver said with a nod. They would have said that no matter what her response actually was, probably.
"Kwist is a Whiptail Vinesnatcher, from Alura," Silver explained. Nevermind that Prism didn't know what either of those things were. "She's green, has two little legs, and two long tails, and a big long snout full of sharp teeth!" Silver made a dramatic gesture with their free hand as if they were trying to 'scare' Prism, but she didn't fall for it. They just laughed and continued, "she also has, ah, spikes on her back, like little extra teeth, and... hmm, brown stripes on her face."
"Do you think you could help me find her?"
Prism blinked her large eyes a few times. That was a lot of information to take in. She fluffed up her wings a bit, then started to wiggle so she could be let free. "Of course, of course," Silver said quietly as they adjusted their grip so they could set her on the ground.
"Let me know what you find," Silver said with a smile. Just as they bent over to let her onto the ground, they could see the long, curled tail of a particular creature. The grinned to themselves, thinking that they would turn it into a game.

Prism walked up to a large piece of grass and gently sniffed it. Nope, that wasn't it. She wandered then over to a patch of soil with a flower sticking out of it. She sniffed that. Nope, that wasn't it. It wasn't clear to her exactly what she was looking for, but she was having a fun time. She liked the way all the weird plants and things smelled.
Silver watched her with a smile on their face. She was so cute! She was adventurous and wanted to explore, and they were happy to encourage that. It was always good when a creature was curious, that meant that they weren't bored or afraid. It made Silver feel good when their creatures felt safe enough to explore while they were around.
Kwist was chasing after a bug, but very slowly. She waited patiently to feel where it was finally going, before finally striking out and grabbing it. Perfect hit! Silver was always impressed that she could do that, even without eyes. They watched her out of the corner of their eye while also watching Prism wander around, wondering when the two would finally meet. If she didn't get it quickly enough, they'd have to give her a hint.

Prism decided that she liked this place. It was nice here, and there were a lot of interesting smells! Not all of them were other animals, either. She liked that. It was also rather quiet, except for the sounds of the wind in the trees. It felt open and free compared to the indoors.
In all of the excitement, Prism promptly forgot what she was doing. She plopped down into the grass, and licked her paw. Then she rolled over onto her side and rubbed her cheek into the grass. Oh, beautiful grass, how lovely it smells! She was obviously very distracted.
Silver laughed softly to themselves. She was pretty cute! That's okay, they hadn't expected her to actually find Kwist anyway. Instead, they went over to where Kwist was and softly clicked their tongue to get her attention. Her head snapped toward them and she licked her teeth.
"That's a good girl," they said. They reached out and gently touched her on the head in a way they thought wouldn't startle her. "It's good to see you. How're you doing, anyway? You must be pretty itchy, it's that time of year, isn't it?" Silver asked a lot of questions they would never get an answer to.

Kwist had a few little buds growing between the spikes on her back. It was truly fascinating, Silver thought, how a creature like her could exist. She had a tail, legs, a head and teeth - those were all normal things for an animal - but she also had spines like a cactus, roots that grew from her twin tails, and she reproduced by budding like a succulent plant. It was all very strange. Though they had long since gotten used to it.
Prism heard Silver say something, so she chirped and rolled back to her feet. She looked around and couldn't see Silver where they were a second ago. Help! She squeaked out loud to see if they would respond.
"Over here little one," Silver said calmly. If they reacted with panic, it would only make things even worse for her.
Prism chirped again and ran over toward where Silver was. She gently rubbed her head on their leg to let them know that she had arrived. Silver smiled again, as they often did when spending time with kittens.
"This is Kwist," they explained, pointing to her. "Remember how we were looking for her before? It's because she's budding, see?" They pointed to the buds growing from her back.

Silver was trying to show Prism the odd buds that were coming up between Kwist's spikes, but she wasn't paying attention. Instead, she was looking at a little red creature that was hopping around the flowers. Silver watched her for a moment as she tried to figure out what the creature was and what it was doing. It was nice to see her curios about her surroundings. They knew it was a good idea to bring her into the gardens today. There was so much for her to learn there.
Kwist plopped down onto the ground and used one of her hind legs to scratch at her itchy buds. Itchy itchy! She was clearly annoyed by all of this budding business. She really didn't like it, but she didn't know anything different. Sometimes life was like that.
They turned away from Prism and hew new hopper friend and went back to helping Kwist out. They pulled their glove off and used their short claws to scratch her where it looked the itchiest. She looked very pleased, at least they thought so, and leaned into their touch. Silver was happy that they could help her to feel better, even if it was only a little bit.

"Growing's hard, huh?" Silver asked sympathetically. Though they said it as if they knew how it felt, they really didn't. They couldn't imagine what it would be like to suddenly sprout a bunch of little itchy things that turned out to be small creatures. It would definitely be weird, they thought. Did it hurt, or just itch? Did she know why it happened? Well they supposed that their body did a lot of things they were unsure of as well. Why did they get the hiccups? As far as they could tell, nobody knew, but everyone just accepted it as a fact of life. Perhaps she felt that way about the buds as well.
Prism swatted at the little bug, but it hopped away before she could catch it. As much as she tried, she was not a terribly efficient hunter yet. She huffed and flopped over into the lightly glowing flower instead. The pollen from the flower made her sneeze, catching Silver's attention again.
"Oh right, I was going to show you around the garden, wasn't I?" Prism rolled onto her back so that she could look up at Silver while they were talking and they suddenly couldn't remember what they were just about to say.

"Sounds good," Silver said. They gently made their way to the ground as not to startle either creature, and stretched out into the grass next to Prism. Kwist looked somewhat offended that they stopped scratching her, but she had other things to worry about. She rubbed her head on a nearby tree, enjoying the way the rough bark felt against her skin. She continued to rub and move around so that the bark could get to all her itchy places. She could scratch herself, thank you very much!
"Do you know what that is, Prism?" Silver asked. Prism tilted her head to look where Silver was pointing. "That's a rare flower called a magic flower. I think they call it that because it looks magical. It does a bit, doesn't it?"
Silver's voice drifted off as they looked at their own palm and shook a few sparkles free. This particular flower felt familiar in its color and radiance. Best not to worry about that, though. "You're very lucky to find one," they said. Though not terribly common, Silver had become used to the site of them. They always wondered what it was that gave them their glow. Was it actual magic?

'Keep it?' came the words echoing through their head. It was a voice they had rarely heard before. If they weren't so used to the sensation, it might have caused them some distress. The telepathic voice of Prism was ringing in their head, as clear as day despite being entirely within their own mind.
"Do you want to keep the flower? Yes of course you can. However, once you pick it, the magic will fade away. I can show you how to preserve the petals, but it will not look the same after."
'No?' she paused as if to consider the information. 'I will leave it, so I can see it again some day.'
"That sounds like a good plan to me," Silver said with a nod. They were glad that Prism was finally starting to open up a bit more. She had clearly been a bit overwhelmed before, and they didn't want her to feel that way.
Meanwhile, Kwist had found something else to catch her attention that wasn't related to how infuriatingly itchy she was. She had felt something run by her feet and was slowly and carefully stalking it. She was utterly silent as she waited for another sign of life to follow. She was a cautious, meticulous hunter.

'More?' Prism asked, eyes fixed on the flower.
"More? More, ah, flowers? There should be plenty. Do you want to see them?" Silver asked. They didn't wait for an answer. "Let me take you over here, where there are more flowers to see."
Silver slowly stood up and let themselves daydream about the flowers. They could let Prism pick her favorite ones, then they could tell her all about them. That sounded absolutely lovely. They couldn't think of a single thing they'd rather be doing at the moment. They smiled at the thought and waved for Prism to follow them. "This way," they said, just in case she needed to hear it. Though Prism could (presumably) understand them, they always included the gestures anyway. It was a mix of habit and good practice, really.
They kept one eye on Kwist as they led Prism over to where they kept more flowers that they thought she might like. Kwist had been still and silent for a while, but she had given up on that. Perhaps she caught whatever she was looking for, or something else had happened to distract her. She licked the edge of her mouth and looked for something else to chase after.

Kwist was doing fine, so Silver felt safe to do a little more exploring with Prism. They would keep Kwist in eyesight, but they didn't need to keep a super close eye on her if she wasn't in any distress. They were prepared for that situation to change, however.
"If you come over here," Silver said, again giving the little gesture that suggested Prism should follow them, "you can see some of my favorite flow..." Silver paused in the middle of their sentence. Something was off. Their ears perked up to attention before they realized what was happening.
"Oh, well, hello there," Silver said as a sleepy set of orange eyes could be seen nearby. It was probably a Koguma, and not one of the ones that they kept there. There was also something else next to it, but with the busy pattern, Silver struggled to figure out what it was at a glance.
They took another step forward tentatively, and held their hand out at their side to signal Prism to stop.
'Who?' Prism asked, tilting her head in the direction of the Koguma. Was it a friend?
"I'm not sure," Silver said quietly. "I think we might be meeting someone new. Stay close to me, okay?"

The Lotine yawned and disentangled itself from where it was circled around the Koguma before reaching out and sniffing the air toward the person and their Mosca. The insect laid its head down on the ground and stared, fully expecting the Lotine to take care of this and trusting its judgement.

Kwist was bored of chasing bugs, and she was itchy. She let out a low hiss, and stretched her legs as long as they would go. That felt nice. After that, she curled up and rested her head on her tails. She was too tired to put up with this.
Silver was slowly putting the situation together as they observed what was happening. What they first thought might be a Koguma and some brush was actually a Koguma and a brush colored Lotine. She was beautiful! Silver smiled. They really did love Lotine. Though they hoped that Lei-lei wouldn't be too offended that a strange Lotine had wandered onto their property.
"Ah, hello there, strangers," Silver said in their most soothing voice. They tentatively moved a little closer to the pair, hunched low and with one of their hands clearly visible so that they posed as little threat as possible. Silver quickly flicked their hand into their pack and pulled out a little container of dried treats.
"Do you, ah, want a little treat?" Silver shook the container, causing Prism to perk up. She put her paws up on their legs and used her claws to get their attention. "Yes, you too," Silver said softly, passing her a single fishy treat from the container before focusing back on the Lotine and her friend.

Ah, fish, how lovely! The Lotine crept forward and nosed at the treat a little before giving it a little lick. There wasn't much it could do now, but it glanced back at the Koguma again, who simply waved at it while it watched their interaction.
