A furrowed brow was the leopard's response to this statement. Different? Different how? He certainly hoped it would be a good different, since he really didn't want to spend another hour and a half trying to wring more names from his head. Actually, no, he was going to go with this name whether the beast liked it or not. The wiurn needed a name. And being a creature of his own creation, he felt responsible to give it one.
"Kyrio", the leopard call slowly to the bejeweled being, maintaining eye contact. Now would be a test of patience and the mammalian had plenty to spare. The wiurn started to uncoil his body, straightening out its form in response to the sound. For once, there was no retort voiced in the mammalian's mind. Only the sustained stare which dared to crack the other's facade. Who would be the first to give in under the pressure?

The silence remained unbroken for a long minute. The purple wiurn's eyes seemed to glisten with consideration, still staring intently at the blue mammalian man standing before it. Kyrio. It sounded nice.. Something he could repeat to himself without getting bored, at least for a little while. And if he did find the name dull after some time, that leopard there could simply come up with a new name. A delighted hiss escaped the wiurn's throat, already amused at the idea of playing this name game.
Xentus was suspicious, but called out the name again, letting the sounds roll off his tongue with an air of caution. He already had the feeling the creature was plotting an annoyance. The lack of the intrusive voice was a sure sign. At the end of the day though, progress was progress. He'd prefer to get on with the next stage of teaching this being some manners..

The only question now was.. How does one teach this cunning wiurn manners? And what kind exactly? The leopard hasn't given it much thought until now. Normally, he'd teach the basic commands to a creature. It's name, come, no, stay.. Giving Kyrio a name that he accepted was the first hurdle. But the other basic commands weren't exactly something you'd sit down and teach to a fellow high-thinking being. The moral dilemma set it strong. The wiurn here was no mere beast. He was thoughtful of what was said to him and imposed his own will. Even if he still looked like a beast, there was a deep sense of complexity that he exuded that couldn't be ignored. Perhaps.. Perhaps they could simply talk. Xentus wanted to form bonds with those under his care, and that would be no different for the jeweled wiurn.
"Say, Kyrio", the leopard began slowly, "what is it that interests you?"

{What is it that interests me?}, the voice questioned back into the leopard's mind. There was a tone of confusion and wonderment. Such an unexpected question, if the wiurn could raise its brow, it would. Kyrio took the time to mull over the question, coiling his body once more. Xentus followed suit and perched himself atop a gnarled root poking from the ground. He leaned forward to show his interest in whatever the wiurn would answer.
{What matter is it to you?}
The retort came sharply. Suspiciously. Yet somehow, curiously. A toothy grin formed on the leopard's muzzle. He didn't expect such information to come easily from Kyrio, but the retort was furthered interaction. And with hope, further understanding. He continued to speak instead of continuing with mental replies, with hopes of having the wiurn grow fond of his name.
"Xentus only wishes to aid the pursuit of your interests. He is fond of Kyrio, didn't you know?"

The studded wiurn shuffled uneasily at the mammalian's words, but did his best to guise the motion as settling into his spot on the dirt patch. His blue eyes stared intently at the leopard, trying to assess him. Was he being genuine? Somehow, it felt the man was looking for some specific clue. What did he truly want? Despite having telepathic abilities, he wasn't a mind reader. And Xentus' poise didn't reveal anything to him except interest. It was almost frustrating trying to guess what the man was trying to get out of him. He would be looking for some weakness to exploit if the roles were reversed.
{Why is that?}, Kyrio pressed the mammalian further, finding little grasp on gathering insight against him. His mental voice gave away more curiosity than he'd intended. Remaining stoic and aloof was becoming difficult.. Frustrating, how frustrating. There had to be an aim, and he was going to figure out what it was.

Xentus watched carefully over the wiurn's subtle movements, but tried his best to mask his perceptiveness. Kyrio didn't seem to take well when the tables were turned against him. Not that this was his original intent. He truly wanted to know what the being thought of this life, its wonders, what what to do of it. But his own affinity for deception and mind tricks made him think this was somehow a game being played on him. The grin of the leopard softened into an amused smile.
"Xentus sees himself as your guardian. He is the one that brought you to this life. So certainly he is nothing but fond of you", the blue furred mammalian replied gently, "The feeling does not need to be returned, but he does wish to earn reciprocation."
And so the truth was laid bare. No trickery or dishonesty. Such ways weren't savory to the leopard. But he was certainly curious to see how the wiurn would react.

What to make of this.. Kyrio recoiled uncomfortably, unfurling his body and raising his body from the ground. The mystic orbs around him swirled in a juggled formation before settling in orbit around his neck. The being stepped forward with his head lowered, tilted to the side so to stare squarely at the mammalian with one piercing blue eye.
{You? My guardian?}, the wiurn questioned with the threat of anger in his mental voice, {Do tell creator, could you best me?}
The mammalian man held no power. Nothing that made him better. Nothing that made him some kind of liege to be obeyed. Kyrio was aware of his own strength, size, and potential for the arcane. The man was a whelp in comparison. Kyrio stalked slowly towards the leopard. The large prismatic crystal embedded in his headplate began to shimmer, radiating with a dazzling, multi-colored light. It was pretty, but a dangerous sign.

An impressive display of power, to say the least. He knew the wiurn could loose a radiant beam from that gem, searing his flesh and killing him in an instant. If it were how he dies, so be it. But such a sight would not scare the leopard. The soft smile on his face remained, his eyes looking in awe at the dazzling light emanating from the wiurn's gem.
"Xentus is not your superior, Kyrio. Do not be mistaken", the leopard stated gently, "He provides you with shelter, food, and care not for the purpose of having power, but out of love."
As soon as the word 'love' left the leopard's lips, the wiurn recoiled. Out of disgust? Out of embarrassment? The mammalian couldn't tell. It was a funny sight though. The glow that threatened to erupt from the beast's gem vanished. Its head straightened and pointed forward at him, staring with widened eyes.

How to even react to such a nonsensical statement? Threatened directly with a magical power, the man chooses.. Love? Of all things to say. Not to beg for his life or bleat apologies. Not even to defend himself with an unseen power of his own. This was confusing. This.. Didn't align with how he would react if the roles were reversed. If he were met with a greater power, he would grovel. Faked of course, but still beg for himself to be spared. Power wasn't worth opposing if it meant certain death.
"Raw prowess isn't the only form of power, Kyrio", the words came gently to his ears. A soft touch was felt rubbing his head-plate. This was confusing. But he didn't move away from the touch. He didn't reject the words.
"You are great of mind, power, and magic, yet still so very new to this world", the words continued, "There is much more to it beyond your own self."

Kyrio was an intelligent, overgrown, flighted purple lizard with the ability for the arcane. So very self absorbed. And yet so blind to the potential that he had. He seemed to seek no purpose but enjoyment from the fealty of others. Xentus brought this creature into this land with the power of that curious laboratory. And for what purpose? None, aside to see what would happen. This reason dictated many of his actions, for better or worse. But now, he sought to enrich this being. Into one with self control, with the vision to see beyond his own self. It would take time and patience, but he was looking forward to such a challenge. And perhaps he could hope to find his own enrichment in doing so.
"This may be confusing, but Xentus will aid Kyrio in this life. He only needs to be allowed", the comforting words came to his ears, persuading for cooperation more than compliance.

For those fleeting moments, Kyrio allowed himself to be absorbed in the man's words. Something about how he spoke was.. Reassuring. He mulled over what the leopard was saying. How the leopard acted. It was genuine, he thought. Frustratingly so. Xentus was winning. The wiurn's eyes had drooped closed under the mammalian's touch. He didn't even realize it. But he couldn't let the puny man win, not like this. With a disgruntled rumble, the reptile snapped his eyes open and jerked his head away from the leopard's grasp.
{Enough!}, the mental voice growled, {This game bores me. I want to rest.}
Xentus did his best to stifle a chuckle at the wiurn's reaction. He wasn't expecting any sort of sudden breakthrough of course, but it felt like the start of one. And Kyrio didn't take well to it this time. "Let us return another day then", the leopard replied warmly. This would be an interesting start to a long road. But one he would be looking forward to traveling down.

> Xentus, accompanied by...
Nazura, the wiurn
Back in a familiar place with a familiar friend. Xentus rode atop the back of the fiery wiurn, comfortably seated in the saddle. Or as comfortably as he could be, considering the wiurn wasn't exactly accustomed to the bridle on its face and bit in its mouth. Nazura shook his head and flicked his tongue at any little pull or tug on the reins. Just because he could wear the thing didn't mean he knew what to do with it on. With a sigh, the leopard called for the creature to bow down and let him off. Not the best start, but that was ok! This simply meant a different approach was needed.
"Alright Nazura, come now. Forward!"
Xentus held the reins in one hand, walking forward and beckoning the lizard to follow after. He could feel the wiurn's yellow eyes staring hard at him in disdain for this exercise.

The lizard behind him walked steadily in tow, using not only his odd front legs, but his wings as well. It was a curious six-limbed gait; it seems the addition of forelimbs didn't erase the instinctual bat-crawl form of locomotion wiurns had. Nazura easily kept pace as the leopard switched to a light jog, still barking 'forward!'. In response, a hot snort erupted from the beast, threatening to singe the leopard's tail.
"Behave, Nazura", Xentus growled over his shoulder. Such a tone only sparked further grunts and snorts in complaint. These sounds coming from such a large creature sent vibrations through the leopard's entire being. But, this bothered him none. He continued to beckon the lizard onward and forward still. 'Such a grumpy reptile this one is.. The promise of food will quell his fire, but not yet', the mammalian thought to himself, eyes peering over to his backpack, 'he needs to earn it'.

Making Nazura work was going to be a fun task. Not that the wiurn was lazy or anything, but his tendency to be stubborn was an exciting challenge. He did seem to cooperate for now.. Even if begrudgingly. This was something like light exercise for the lizard. The complaints coming now would only grow worse. Nothing that Xentus was afraid of, but handling such a powerful beast was not a task to be taken lightly, no matter how fond he was of the reptile.
"Halt!"
Suddenly, the mammalian man stopped. His order was barked sharply and accompanied with two tugs on the reins. Nazura loosed a deep grunt in return, his neck snaking into a 'S' shape as he tried to avoid colliding with the leopard before him.. And failed. The wiurn's hard black belly scales bumped into the man's back - the force was enough to make Xentus stumble forward, but not quite enough to knock him to the ground.

That... Went much better in his head. Xentus caught himself, but released the wiurn's reins in doing so. For the better too, as he was sure the wiurn would let its body collapse on top of him if he held on to them. For having a six-legged gait, the brakes on that lizard weren't what he was hoping. He did catch the wiurn by surprise apparently, so he only had himself to blame for the small crash. Lesson learned.
"Let us try that again, Nazura", the leopard murmured after collecting himself and taking the reins one more, "Come! Forward!"
Off he went, breaking into a sprint with wiurn in tow. This was much more exercise for himself than the bulking beast following after him. But it was all necessary if Nazura was to become a glorious mount! He was already most of the way there, he had only a little more learning to do.
