Hm. It seems the alurook has decided to be stubborn. Xentus frowned at the thought, wondering why his beautiful bird wasn't moving at all. With a sigh, he came to terms with the idea of changing his plan. Time for a treat trail. He fished out a smaller morsel of meat from the bag and tossed it halfway between them, keeping a larger piece in his grasp. Xentus watched as the bird tracked the food flying through the air, her head moving in tight, short bursts. It ducked low as the treat landed, fixated on the sight. He could almost see the temptation growing in her eyes. Perfect.
"Mashiik! Come now, Mashiik!", the leopard called out, continuing to beckon. If this didn't work, he wasn't sure what else he could try. Given the reaction of the alurook however, he had a good feeling about attempt number three. His voice sounded once more, "Mashiik!"

Temptation. Looming temptation. It grew as the alurook eyed the food on the ground. Her patience dropped quickly at the sight, her tactic of waiting and watching paying off marginally - an added piece of food for her gullet. Mashiik could resist no longer, finally stepping off her gnarled perch and making for the morsel on the ground. *Click!* Oh that sound again! It was starting to make her feel as if she had done something right in the mere action of going for a snack. It was quickly snatched off the ground and down her throat in one fluid motion, "Good Mashiik!", she heard the mammalian praise, "Come now, here Mashiik!" Right, he had more food. And now that she was already off her comfortable stand, it was much less effort on her part to make for the extra morsel. Her wings fluttered silently as she charged towards her keeper. More accurately, towards the piece of meat that he held.

A creeping smile found its way onto the mammalian's muzzle, replacing the frown from earlier. Success. The trot of the alurook was a funny thing to watch, with steps seeming a little too high for her massive frame, and wings spread, fluttering ever so erratically. He laughed as he called out praise to the golden owl, pressing his clicker. Now, come all the way, yes? He again beckoned for the creature, but it seemed it was almost unnecessary. Mashiik was barreling straight to him! For most people, the sight of a massive, 12 foot tall giant owl flailing its wings as it barreled towards them would be more than alarming. Terrifying even. But for Xentus, it was a marvelous thing to behold. His plan had worked. Admittedly, he was thankful that the bird had brakes. The creature came to a stop before him, chuffing throaty sounds in anticipation for the snack in his hand. "Good, Mashiik! Good come, Mashiik."

As another another click sounded from the clicker, Mashiik quickly plucked and swallowed the piece of meat offered to her on the gloved hand. Her actions were met with praise from the leopard. His voice had good sounds. She liked it. And him. And the food, most of all. Though the blue leopard was rapidly growing a lead on being her favorite person. Yes, mostly because of food. There was no better way to an owl's heart than through her crop, after all. "Good come Mashiik, very good." She tried to follow after the leopard as he moved away, eager for another snack. But her actions were met with resistance. "No, Mashiik. Stay!", his voice commanded in a tone starkly different from his previous fanfare of praise. Almost like a growl. Unfortunately for him, growls were not something found in avian vocabulary. She tried again to follow him, but was met with a firm hand to her soft, sensitive underbelly. "Stay!"

It was great having the giant owl's attention, to the point of wanting to trail right after him, but it would be difficult to teach her to come when he needed if she was following him like a fledgling. "Stay", he growled firmly, planting a hand into the soft belly of the creature. It so downy and plush, and fantastic to press into. And unfortunately, it was one of the areas Mashiik hated being touched. The owl recoiled from his palm, quite offended that he dared to do such a thing. Her motions were backed up a hiss. It was quite the intimidating sound, but Xentus did not balk under the bird's malice. He calmly turned his back to her and walked to the far edge of his training plot. There were no plodding sounds of talons on dirt behind him. Good. But now he had to deal with an offended owl.
"Mashiik! Come here, Mashiik!", the leopard called out as he tossed another piece of meat between them.

The owl had half the mind to fly away at the bold action of the mammalian man. And it would be something to consider if she could actually fly. She probably could if she really wanted to. Lucky for the cat, she didn't. A set of large round eyes stared hard into the back of the man, one part offended, one part hungry. She stayed put for now. All the way up until a morsel flew into the air and landed partway between them. Just as the voice called out for her, she made her way to the little snack, half trotting, half hopping, to scoop it up. *Click!* The familiar sound of the clicker met her ears, followed by words of praise from Xentus. With a bite of food, she could forgive him for his treachery just moments before. Ah, and it seemed he had more food already ready to help make reparations. "Mashiik!", his voice beckoned her.

Xentus was fairly happy with the turnaround of the golden owl's mood, from miffed to munching in the amount of time it took to flick his wrist. A sly grin formed on his muzzle as he pressed on the clicker, sounding an immediate note of praise towards the avian's actions. Then, he called out to her once again, beckoning for her approach using a glistening bite of raw meat. It didn't take long for Mashiik to hop to the spot directly in front of him, eager for another bite. *Click!* "Good girl, Mashiik. Good come!", the leopard praised, holding the snack up. His leather glove was lightly grazed by a sharp, eager beak in return. 'That would've hurt..', he thought callously to himself, shaking his head. He needed to teach that bird some manners. Once she learned to stay put, that is.
"Stay, Mashii. Stay", he firmly commanded as he slowly backed away from the owl.

Primed and ready for another snack, the golden alurook began to follow after the pastel blue mammalian man. Unfortunately, once again her advances were met with a firm growl. "No, no. Stay. Mashiik, stay", the leopard demanded, stepping forward to press on the fluffy belly of the owl, "Stay." She recoiled from his touch, hissing in protest. "Xentus will not touch you if you be a good Mashiik and stay there", the man lectured as he took a step back. Mashiik watched in disdain as not only did the feline get away with touching her sensitive stomach, but he was making off with the food she desired! Was this some kind of cruel prank? The owl dipped her head low, observing her keeper carefully as he walked backwards. He made it about ten paces away before..
*Click!* The reliable sound that food was inbound. The owl's massive form immediately perked up, just in time to snatch up the hunk of meat that was tossed to her.

"Good stay, Mashiik!", Xentus called out to his avian pet, and continued to back away from the owl. She seemed quite ready to come barreling across the dirt plot towards him already. But, to his surprise, the owl stayed put. He could feel her gaze piercing into him, watching and waiting for her chance. Just when he reached one of the trees that marked his training areas, he called out again, "Come, Mashiik!" Immediately, the golden alurook sprang into action, hop-trotting towards the mammalian man with her wings flailing. There was a glimmer in her eyes, the desire for a sweet little morsel. Sadly, he would have to disappoint her this time.
"Good come, Mashiik! Good girl", he praised to the owl as it reached him, rubbing her expectant beak. She mouthed the leather, searching for the prize she worked very hard for. But alas, there was none. "Now, stay. Stay there, Mashiik", the command came firmly, leaving no time for the bird to protest the lack of snack.

Come Mashiik. Stay Mashiik. Good Mashiik. The bird was gaining a decent grasp on the intent of her keeper's words. This 'Mashiik' business really suited her. An, she was really enjoying the game of 'do something insignificant and get rewarded with food for it'. But, there wasn't food for her last prideful trot to the mammalian man. But maybe...
The owl hatched an idea. She could cut the middleman and just get the food herself. A pair of bright yellow eyes watched as the leopard turned his back to fish something out of his pack. Sure, she was told to stay there but he never really did clarify for how long. Not that she cared. After a minute of patient waiting, the Alurook decided that now was as good a time as ever to treat herself to a well deserved snack.
Slowly, the giant avian stalked to the bag of cubed meat by the leopard's foot. And with a swift snatch with her beat, the plastic bag was in her clutches!
"Mashiik!", her keeper cried out in response to the noise, "No! Bad! Hey, give that back!"

Oh what a troublesome owl. Xentus jumped to his feet and did his best to grab the bad of meat out of the bird's beak. Little morsels fell and scattered about the ground as the Alurook laid claim to her prize. The large avian easily towered over him and could definitely out muscle him without trying.
"No, Mashiik!", his words came frantically, falling on deaf ears. The owl pushed past the mammalian man and trot-hopped in delight at having gotten away with her snack. Xentus was unhappy with this, but decided to make use of the only defense he had against the bird. A shrill whistle.
It took him only a moment to fetch it from his pack. He didn't like this, but it was the only way he saw. And with that, he blew into the device, loosing a high pitched whistle into the air. Immediately, the plastic bag of goodies was released in tandem with a flinch from the owl. She screeched in return, her ears awfully assaulted by the noise.
"No!"

What a god awful sound! Mashiik's sensitive ears rang with a echo of the whistle for a few moments after the sound ended. It didn't last long in the first place, but it was certainly an instantaneous bout of shock and discomfort. As the noise cleared from her head, her brilliant eyes stared hard at her offender. How could he?
Mashiik puffed her feathers out and loosely spread her wings as she approached the man in a threatening pose. A low rumbling noise akin to a growl emanated from her throat. She was only aiming to intimidate the leopard, making her disapproval known to him. Her stare was met with a scowl in return.
"Mashiik", his words came calmly, "No." A wagging finger was pointed at her. The gesture wasn't one that registered with the bird, unfortunately. Her threat display continued. It didn't take long for the leopard to make his own disapproval known. A quick blast of noise from the whistle put the alurook in check immediately.
"No."

To be frank, having a massive owl put on its threat display, staring you down was not the easiest thing to stand your ground against. Xentus had the feeling that he wasn't in any danger, refusing to waver under the owl's malice. Not that he didn't think it wasn't scary. He couldn't let her know that though, and he had enough of her attempts regardless. A shrill blast of noise from the whistle did the trick.
"No, Mashiik", the leopard warned as he watched the bird recover from its recoil. She took on a more submissive appearance this time. It seemed the whistle did a good job at persuading her, much to his relief. He didn't want to do anything that made her suffer any ill will towards him. But it was about time she learned some manners.
"Good no, Mashiik."
He praised her gently and approached carefully, picking up one of the dirtied cubes of meat that fell earlier. He held it out in his gloved hand, stopping short just in case the owl wasn't so ready to forgive..

Mashiik cowered in response to the shrill tone that blasted her ears. She was quick to learn that her threat display did little to intimidate the leopard. She hung her head low with her wings tight to her body in an attempt to make her massive frame seem smaller than it actually was. And soon, she was met with praise. The shift in mood was quickened by the soft tone of the mammalian man, who was now offering her a small bite to eat. Her eyes locked onto the morsel, evaluating it for a moment. With a cautious step forward, she plucked the treat from the leopard's grasp, and slung it down her throat.
"Good Mashiik, good no", his praise came in a gentle cooing tone. It sounded nice and reassuring. The owl regained some confidence, though kept a low profile just in case. Then again, those treats on the ground were looking mighty tasty... Mashiik carefully edged towards a glistening square of raw food, but was stopped short by an intense glare and stern words from her keeper.
"No, Mashiik. No."

Oh the allure of temptation. Mashiik took a careful second to consider the leopard's warning. Her neck was already outstretched towards the morsel. It was just before her beak. And the smell was tantalizing.
"No", another warning came from her keeper.
Her desire to have another snack was about equal to her aversion to another shrill sound piercing her ears. Well.. The whistle was probably the worse of the two options. And she did not want to have to hear that sound again. There were other means to a bite to eat aside from getting it herself. Slowly, the bird backed away from the soiled food and turned her head to look at the mammalian man with pleading eyes.
"Good, Mashiik!", the warm praise came. It was rather nice to be on the receiving end of praise over a scold. Mashiik perked up, expectant of the reward she so deserved. As according to plan, a morsel was offered up to her in a leather-gloved hand. Perfect.
