Jack couldn't wait, she was supposed to meet Nina again this month, and she was excited to see what was going to happen and all that. She was thrilled to see her old friend, even if she was a robot. It was going to be great, she just couldn't wait to see what was going to happen. She opened the door to the Breeding Center with a smile, Blanket in her arms as she wandered in. He was a Sloth, and a lively Sloth at that, he was awake enough to bat at a nearby fly, after all! She wasn't sure what Nina was going to bring, but that was fine as well and all that, she just hoped they would be pretty good together, all said and done. Jack was thrilled, she simply couldn't wait, and she knew that her enthusiasm was infectious when the usually dour attendant smiled at her.

It had been a long time since she was here. She had given up the Zu to some volunteers 'until further notice' so that she could focus on all of the things Silver left behind. Nina hated to leave her precious babies like that, but she had hard choices to make, and she knew that the volunteers would do well with the money she left them. Finally, Silver had come back, and now she was free to pick up the pieces of her old life. It felt weird, finally having a life of her own, but she had to figure it out, one piece at a time.
Nina carried a fluffy little Orbaru known as Cadi into the breeding center. The cute pink rings on its tail made it one of her favorites. Not that she'd admit to having favorites. When she saw Jack standing there, she waved and walked over. She almost wasn't sure what to say, so she just stood there for a moment, wondering if Jack would speak first.

The woman glanced over to the door and saw the TROD enter with an Orbaru in her arms. She perked up and waved back, grinning from ear to ear when she saw her old friend. "Hey there Nina, it's good to see you again!" she told her, still smiling. Blanket booped in her arms and batted for the other Orbaru for a moment before giving up and settling back down. He wasn't sure what was going to happen here, but that was fine, he trusted the woman as much as he could at this point. While things were interesting, however, he hoped that nothing bad was going to happen to him. The last time he was here, he'd been born, he didn't put two and two together, but Orbaru rarely did she supposed when she glanced down at him, "This is Blanket, by the way!" Hopefully Nina was happy to see her as well.

Much to her relief, Jack spoke first. She always liked that Jack was easy to talk to and not an awkward bumbling mess like herself. If she had a face, it would probably have softened into a smile. Jack welcomed her back, no problem. She almost expected Jack to be angry with her for being out of touch so long. It meant a lot to her that she wasn't like that. Maybe that's why they were friends in the first place.
"Ah, yes, good to see you too," she said. The sound of her own voice startled her a bit, as she had been using a different one for a long time. The files for the old one were still there, though, and she switched over to them for the occasion.
"Hello Blanket," she said. She reached down and touched him gently, hopefully in a way that didn't seem threatening. She held out her Orbaru so that Blanket could see her. "This is Cadi, and I think you can be good friends."

Blanket batted at the hand that reached out for him before yawning a little and putting his head in the woman's arms a little more snugly. He was tired and that was good for him at the moment, he liked to sleep when he didn't have anything better to do, and that was it right now, unfortunately. Sure, there was another Orbaru there, and the shiny person, but... eh. He really didn't want to deal with that right now for whatever reason.
Giving a chuckle, Jack reached out to pat Cadi on the head a little bit, "Well hello there Cadi, nice to meet you." She glanced up at Nina with a smile on her face, "I think they'll be friends too. Blanket's really more excitable than other Sloths I believe, but... well... he's still a Sloth, so he gets tired of course." Well, they'd better get checked in, she figured, but that was fine, it could really wait for a bit.

"I always wonder how something can sleep so much," Nina said, looking down at Blanket. She really missed Orbaru. She never managed to get sick of their cute little heads, no matter how simple they could be at times. She realized after a moment that they were standing in front of the door for the breeding room, and Cadi was starting to get restless in her hands.
"Shall we?" she asked, indicating the door. As was polite, she waited for Jack to go in front of her. Plus, it had been a while since she did the checking in and it would be easier for her to watch how Jack did it than to do it herself.
Cadi wiggled a little bit, trying to work herself free. Nina curled her arm back toward her chest so she could pin the Orbaru between her arm and her chest. "I think Cadi wants to play," Nina said followed by the soft whirring sound she made instead of laughing.

"General laziness," Jack answered with a smile and ducked through the doorway into the Breeding Center. She went up to the counter and started filling out some paperwork, smiling at the attendant and then passing it over to Nina when she was done with her portion. It was always a little harder to get it done with two people, but that was fine! She was honestly just happy to be with Nina again for the first time in forever it seemed.
The woman glanced over at the other Orbaru and chuckled before setting Blanket on the floor and nudging him toward the TROD, "There you go buddy, go play!" She was pleased they still got along so well together, her and Nina, it was like the TROD had never left, and it was good to see things were almost the same for the TROD, at least that's how it seemed to her, so she was just going to go with it.

Laziness was one of those things that all biological creatures seemed to struggle with, but Nina had an especially hard time understanding it. She accepted that it was a fact of life, but since she didn't really need to sleep or eat, and she had no muscles to get sore, she never truly understood it. Whatever it was, it made Orbaru extra cute, and maybe that's all that mattered.
She accepted the paperwork and filled it out with her unusually neat and perfect handwriting. Since Jack took the lead, she was able to figure it out from what was already there. It wasn't that complicated, but she had psyched herself up about it and worried over nothing. Story of her life.
Nina realized she had been holding Cadi pinned to her side the entire time she was filling out the paperwork. "Sorry, little one," she said. She dropped Cadi gently on the ground and she immediately ran over to go play with Blanket. She tugged on one of Blanket's long ears to try to encourage him to play.
"I would love to hear about what you have been doing," Nina said to Jack, trying to open the air for discussion.

Jack watched as Nina filled out her part of the paperwork and then handed it in before settling her Orbaru on the ground to play with Blanket. The Sloth booped in surprise when his ears were tugged on and he rolled over to try and roll onto her in play. He liked to play at this point, but he knew he would get tired after a little while. All the woman could do was chuckle at their antics as she motioned for Nina to follow her over to the chairs and sat down in one of them.
"What I've been doing? Lots of training, as always!" she laughed a little, shaking her head, "Other than that it's been lots of breeding and hunting things down in the mines and places like that. What about you? What all have you been up to since you've been gone?" Jack really wanted to know what had pulled her friend away for so long.

Cadi took a step back and looked at Blanket with her head tilted, like she wondered why he was rolling around. It looked fun, so she tried it too. She dramatically threw herself to the ground and rolled in the opposite direction of Blanket, trying to meet him in the middle. Then they could cuddle, maybe. She liked that.
Jack had not seemed to change much since they last spoke. She supposed that Jack would probably be a very busy person. She had so many creatures to care for, after all, maybe even more than she and Silver had. It made her feel nice that Jack still made time for her.
"Well..." she paused. How to explain what had happened? "I am a TROD," she said. Did Jack have a TROD? That thought made her feel weird. "I don't know if you know, but TRODs train and keep creatures for people. My person went on a long trip, and I had to care for all of their creatures while they were gone. Now they have come back, and I am free to care for creatures some of the time, and do my own things some of the time."

Blanket booped in surprise whenever he and Cadi rolled into each other. He looked at her and beamed before pawing at her ears again to see what she would do about him doing that right now. Whatever happened, he hoped she would like it, of course! It was just... odd.
"I... have a TROD of my own, but nowhere near what you are!" Jack said a little carefully, trying to gauge Nina's reaction, even though the TROD wasn't all that expressive, though a little more than a regular robot. Rubbing the back of her head, she gave a little smile, "Well I'm glad you can do what you want to do now! Whoever is your person, well, I'm glad they're back so we can hang out again, it really is great to see you. Are you happy they're back, in fact? I mean, it must get a little tedious just taking care of someone else's creatures for awhile?"

Cadi booped a happy boop, almost like an Orbaru version of a giggle. She let Blanket paw at her ear and leaned in so maybe he would be convinced to scratch her. She loved it when her ears were scratched, and if she could trick him into doing it, that would just be the best.
"What... I am." Nina echoed what Jack said. It was really strange to hear it, but she didn't deny that she was different from the TROD that Jack probably had. She wasn't sure whether or not she thought it was flattering that Jack noticed such a thing. "I do not know," she said rather flatly. "It is good to have free time again, and I like spending time with my Orbaru, but it is a little strange to be changing back.
"I do not mind caring for creatures; I do not think I suffer from boredom in the same way that people do." Nina wondered if she was talking about herself too much, so she tried to bring the conversation back around again. "I am happy to spend time with my friends," she said that warmly, like it should be accompanied with a smile. She looked directly at Jack's face, trying to make the connection between what she said and Jack being her friend more obvious.

Oh, she knew she had struck a nerve now, and she grimaced a little. Nina was different from other TRODs to be sure, but she wasn't sure why. That was fine, and the next statement made her smile at the TROD happily. She got the hint, they were friends, Nina considered her a friend just as she considered Nina her friend! This was good, definitely. "I'm happy to have you as a friend Nina, I've missed you, really," Jack told her, reaching out to put a hand on her arm if it was allowed.
Blanket pawed at her ear a little more until his dull little claws started to scratch at them at the same time. He booped an apology and hid behind his ears for a moment before peeking out around them to make sure he hadn't hurt her. He... he hadn't, had he? Honestly he couldn't bear it if he had!

Nina wasn't sure whether or not talking about who she was bothered her, as she had never had to do so before. It was a little confusing and she was glad that Jack was willing to drop the subject so quickly. Maybe some day they could stop and really talk about it, if she could even get the story straight. There had been so many years between now and then that Nina wasn't certain what she remembered and what she had made up in her head. Did people have this problem, too? Maybe when they had that conversation, she could ask that too.
Nina briefly touched Jack's hand with her own, signaling that she accepted the gesture. The material her gloved hands were made from were not cold, like metal, but it wasn't warm like skin, either. Whatever it was, it would have to do. "It is so very good to hear that someone missed me," Nina said. It made her feel special. "I am sorry if I caused you worry, and if I should go away again, I will be sure to tell you first. ... Not that I plan on such a thing."
Blanket's strong reaction made Cadi nervous. She touched her ear where he had been touching it, then looked at it and her paws. She wasn't hurt, as far as she could tell, so she went back to being cheerful pretty quickly. Blanket looked worried, though, so she reached out to him. She rubbed his head like she was petting him to see if that would help.
