"Ah! No no no, please," Silver squeaked again. They ran up to the curtain and put their paws underneath Sanguis should he fall down. They were just about to pluck him off the fabric when they had a thought. This would actually be an excellent lesson in flying. They took a single step back and observed his progress.
Sanguis was so determined to make it up to the height of the window that he didn't even notice Silver below him. He honestly didn't care. If he was going to fall, he could deal with that. It's not like he had never fallen before. He twisted his head back to look at where the moth had gone. Then he narrowed his eyes and made a mental calculation about how hard he would have to jump and flap to get there. Could he do it? Well, there was only one way to find out, and he wasn't one to hesitate.

He leaped off the fabric and rapidly beat his skinny wings as hard as he could. His hands were outstretched and his red eyes were fixated on the lazy fluttering of the blue moth. It was going to be his! Though he had considerably overestimated his own jumping ability and soon began to plummet toward the ground. Beating his wings as hard as he could did get him reasonably far, but it also made him tired more quickly.
"Ah, I gotcha, aaah," Silver stumbled over their own feet while trying to catch Sanguis at the bottom of his fall. He landed softly into their paws and huffed about it immediately. He did NOT need to be rescued.
"Are you alright, little one?" Silver asked, inspecting what parts of the Harachiu they could see.
"Shoo shoo," he said, waving his hands dismissively. He did not need to be rescued, and he definitely did not need to be fretted over like a child!

Silver simply ignored his rude comments. If they were offended, it would only give Sanguis what he wanted. They were happy to play along, but it was best if they didn't encourage him.
"That was a good try," they said. They weren't trying to be condescending, despite how it might have come out. Sanguis rolled his eyes and went to push himself out of their hands. "Wait, wait. I can help you. You want to be able to fly well, right? Well, I mean, like, you want to practice... flying?"
They were not doing a good job of selling it.
"I can teach you, if, if you want." Silver smiled, softly but genuinely. They really did want to help. They didn't usually fly, of course, but they knew it must be intensely frustrating to not be able to. As much as he hated to admit it, Sanguis could use the help. He wanted to be able to fly as well as the others. He just didn't want to admit that he wasn't good at it.

Instead of saying something that he was sure would come out all wrong, Sanguis simply nodded. He did want help learning to fly, and if he had to admit that to Silver to accomplish that goal... well, he was willing to nod, at least. Unless it became too hard, in which case he would be out in a heartbeat.
"Good, good," Silver said with a nod of their own. "The first thing you need to learn is about conserving energy, I think..."
They mulled it over in their head. Was that actually the first thing? Maybe not always, but Sanguis did sort of know how to flap his wings and how to use them to get around, so they were reasonably confident that they were in the right place for what he already knew.
They took a couple of steps toward the windowsill and put their hands against the ledge there so Sanguis could stand on his own. That ought to make him more confident!

"Here, we'll start here, so I can use my hands," Silver said. They gently tilted their hands to push Sanguis onto the windowsill, confirming that they wanted him to stand there.
"When you use your wings, you have to consider where the air is, and how it moves against you. If you just beat them as hard as possible, well that won't work, you see, because you're actually disrupting the air more than you are catching it, and..." They realized that they were getting entirely too wordy about everything. Sanguis was clever enough, but he probably didn't even know all of the words they were using to explain it. Perhaps a simpler approach was best.
"Like this," they said, using their hands to mimic the movement of wings. "See?" they exaggerated the movement.
Then they moved their hands incorrectly, and very fast, and shook their head. "Not this... this," they repeated. Did any of that make sense? Well, they hoped so.

Sanguis scrunched up their face. What was Silver even on about? He didn't understand any of it. Something about going too fast? But he liked to go fast! He wasn't doing this to be told he was going too fast, that's ridiculous! Nonetheless, he watched carefully as Silver waved their hands about in the air. Then he looked back at his own wings and considered how to move them the same way. Was that what Silver was saying? He was trying to pay attention, really!
"This..." he echoed, slowly moving his wings at a new angle.
"Very close, but a little more like..." they reached out with their pinky finger and tilted the wing just a bit so that it was perfect. "There, try that!" they said cheerily.
"Yes," Sanguis said with a nod. It wasn't a word he said often, so he was clearly determined to make this work. He flexed his wings a few more times, just to make sure they were still working correctly before he committed fully.

Sanguis jumped into the air and waved his wings about, trying to concentrate on what Silver had showed them. However, he was quickly distracted by something colorful coming his way. It was a huge cat! Huge even by his standards. Wait was it two huge cats? He dropped his wings to his sides in shock and plummeted straight toward the ground. Thankfully, Silver was watching closely and was able to catch him.
"Woah there," Silver said. What had happened? Their eyes were so focused on the Harachiu that they didn't even see the cats floating nearby.
"Look, look!" Sanguis said, having landed face down into their palm. He rolled over onto his back and pointed straight upward.
Silver looked up blankly like a deer in the headlights. "Ah?" they said, looking right up where he pointed.
"Oh, hello there," they said softly. "Hello there, beautiful." They did their best to look open and friendly with their posture and the position of their ears and tail. They knew that those sorts of things were important to wild creatures.

The white, speckled one seemed to be in command of the other, at least a little bit it would seem, and it purred and stepped forward. Flicking it's tail, their heads tilted back and forth for a moment before the siamese stepped forward as well, reaching out to sniff at the person in front of them, wondering if this was the smart thing to do or not. The white one paused and then purred deeply again before rubbing up against one of the person's legs as a test.

Silver lived a strange life, and part of that strangeness was how not-unusual it was that they were being approached by two large, potentially magical, cat-creatures. They stood calmly and tried not to twitch their tail too much. Any sudden movement, no matter how slight, could make a cat jump and run off. They had to imagine these cats, as pretty as they were, acted the same.
"Stay quiet," Silver said, clasping their hands so that they were holding on to Sanguis' lower half. They didn't want him jumping down there and pulling anyone's tail. That seemed like something he would do for sure. He made a grumbling noise, but otherwise didn't move. As much as he hated to admit it, he was a little bit afraid of the creatures. They could probably eat him in one bite, and he'd rather be safe in Silver's hand than not.
"Oh, what a good kitty you are," Silver said. They used the sickeningly sweet voice they always used when talking to animals, especially strange ones. "Would you like a treat, maybe?" they asked. They reached into their bag quietly and a treat appeared in their hand. They hadn't forgotten about Ising, of course, but they also hadn't expected him to get into the treats and help himself. Well, that was a problem for later.
"Here, I have a treat," Silver said. They used their free hand to hold out a treat near their hip, careful not to get too close to the Caterflies, but close enough so that they could smell it.

The siamese catterfly sniffed at the treat as the iridescent one purred even louder and rubbed up against the person's legs. They were both pleased with the actions of the person and their strange little person, and wondered what it would be like...
No, they couldn't do that, could they? The white one sniffed at the treat as well and then nipped at it, attempting to take it away and bite it in half to share with the siamese, who purred loudly now as well, pleased with the way things were going. This was going to be fine, and the siamese knew what it was going to do, the white one, however, was a little leery still.

Silver found the overly friendly gesture by the iridescent Caterfly to be slightly alarming but also delightful. Who could say no to a purring kitty? Not them, that's for sure. The kitties could be luring them right into a trap, and they were falling for it hook, line, and sinker. They were just so cute! How could anyone possibly resist?
Sanguis was getting impatient, and he really wanted to be let go. However, he was also considerably afraid of the huge purring machines. He frowned and tried to bite down on Silver's hand so that he could be let go, only to find that Silver's gloves were too tough to bite through. He grumbled and rubbed the taste of glove out of his mouth.
They ignored Sanguis while they dealt with the Caterflies. He would understand. They dropped the treat they were holding out that was being nibbled on. Then they slowly moved to grab another, and dropped it as well. "See? Lots of treats, if you want to, ah, come along with us, I guess. You don't have to..." they said. Not that Caterflies understood common.
Silver slowly reached a hand out, still covered in treat smell, and waited to see if the more friendly of the two Caterflies would come by and accept a pet on the head.

The white catterfly took the next treat and bit it in half again, offering the other half to the siamese just like the last one. They both ate them up and purred before they both twined around the person's legs, happily fluttering their wings as they did so. They could see themselves with the person, this was good, and they both licked a hand before laying down at their feet, bellies exposed.
[Congratulations, you've tamed the catterflies!]

Was this really their best idea? Well, it wasn’t like it was their worst idea, anyway. As weird as it was, they were confident that nothing bad would happen to them. Were they finally strong enough to feel like they could protect those close to them? “Hey beautiful girl,” Silver said. They announced themselves fair in advance so that she would know that they were there, though she had probably heard their footsteps long before their voice. “Do you want to come on an adventure with me?” Silver asked. They gently pressed their forehead against her nose, mindful not to be run through by her horn on accident. Nyx made a soft sound of approval and Silver smiled. “Okay, sounds like a plan,” they said. They opened the gate and led her out into the sunshine, not that she could tell. She just liked being around them and spending time with them. It didn’t matter to her where they were, just that they did it together. 1[134.9, 10.6]

“We’re going somewhere… weird,” they said. They couldn’t think of a better word to describe it. There was an unusual old house in the outskirts of the city, and it was filled with some kind of strange magic that they didn't actually know that much about, despite spending a lot of time there.
Silver was always wary about going there, but every time, their curiosity got the better of them. They wanted to understand the magic so that they could learn more about it. Perhaps they would even learn what not to fear. Besides that, the place was also always full of trinkets and exceptional creatures. How could they possibly stay away?
The odd trinkets and other things found around the mansion often had some value, which was enough of a reason to keep going back for most people. Some of them were worth more than others, of course, but there were truly interesting and rare things to be found.
