Renathan had not done an orbaru breeding himself in a long while, and there were a lot of reasons as to why he didn't. For one, he had a ton of orbaru and he really didn't want to have to invest in another addition to the house for them. However, it was a difficult habit to break. Renathan really did enjoy the experience of working with orbaru, but he also didn't really enjoy training them all that much. He did plan to eventually train them, but there were a few things that he would consider and eventual goal and there wasn't really a whole lot of those that he thought he'd actually get done with in any sort of a timely manner. Those things being considered, he was feeding his bit of addiction to seeing what would come out of his pairs by having asked Jack to be able to borrow one of her lovely silky males. This particular one was just stunning. Renathan was sure that he would pass his colors, but he was secretly crossing his fingers for those markings. Pixie, on the other hand, was the one of his own that he had chosen. He had bred her himself several months beforehand.

Renathan had bred a comet male with a rainbow ribbon female, and that had produced two of Renathan's favorite coated orbaru ever; one bubbly male, and a little sloth female. The female, Pixie, was the cutest ever. She had her mother's colors, but sloths were really adorable in Renathan's opinion. Her fur was lighter than her mother's, more purple than black, and of course her eyes were brightly colored as well, moreso than that of her mother. Renathan hardly ever saw them, because she was always asleep. In fact, she was asleep right now! Her critter crate was much heavier than that of the male, sloths tended to be a little more rotund than other orbaru. It wasn't going to take very long to get to the breeding center today, Renathan figured. It was winter out, which meant plenty of blankets for the two orbaru (they seemed warm enough at least) and a little bit of a speedier jaunt. Also, there wouldn't be as many people out on the street. That was always a good thing, it made it easier to go out and get there. Summertime breeding treks were the true worst, these winter ones shouldn't be too bad, theoretically.

However, the winter made Renathan feel bad. Every year around the winter he got more and more sad, until the heat and sunlight finally came back. He figured that it had something to do with where he came from; it was always warm there. Renathan had never even seen snow until he migrated to the Labs City. It had been a surreal thing when he had first seen it. Sure he had heard of snow before, but it was hard to imagine it when it was never seen before by himself. Fluffy, white, precipitation. Apparently it was what happened when water droplets got cold. For some reason they became something that looked totally different. Now he understood it quite well, but it was still very mysterious looking to him regardless. Speaking of snow, it was supposed to snow soon, and he really needed to get a step on if he was going to make it to the breeding center before the sky started spitting snow out on him whether he wanted it to or not.
The sky was grey, the world felt nasty and vaguely damp and very cool. Renathan always hated this time of year; but orbaru never seemed to care about that kind of thing, let alone these two.

Little Pixie was asleep (she was about eighty percent of the time anyway) and Renathan was thankful for that. Sometimes orbaru were a little difficult to deal with on the way to the breeding center. As such, he had started using orbaru carriers that were clear so that the orbaru could see each other and play on the way. It seemed to make them very happy. Any orbaru breeder worth their salt knew that keeping the orbaru happy and less stressed typically made for babies of higher qualities. Renathan had bred so many different orbaru that he knew about what was needed to get them done. Pixie being asleep was good for Renathan, mostly because Dart was NOT. Dart was a bit of a spazz. Renathan did not have any kind of silky orbaru that spazzed out like this? All of his were pretty melancholy at worst, obsessed with their fur around the middle, or cuddly at best. This one, THIS ONE WANTED TO PLAY. Right now, preferably. He seemed pretty intent to try to wake Pixie up to pay attention to him from all the way over there, even though she wasn't giving him the slightest thought since he was so relatively far away.

Renathan had been a little bit 'to himself' again lately, but it was times like these when he wished that he had someone else around to keep Dart still and from being a butt. He was doing this odd thing with his hind legs at the moment, and that was shaking the critter crate that was tucked so neatly underneath Renathan's right arm, he was sort of creating a loud THUMPING rhythmic noise with those powerful hind legs. Renathan knew enough about Orbaru to know that most didn't really want to hurt you, but some of them were straight up nightmares and didn't even know it. They didn't mean to hurt you (save for maybe the battle ones) but those back legs could accidentally pack a wallop if they got too excited about seeing another orbaru and you had them in your arms. It wasn't something that a lot of people thought about when working with orbaru, not one bit. Renathan knew better than to not hold a fiesty orbaru under his arm like this; it kept him as far away from being accidentally kicked in his ribs as possible. As for the female? She wasn't the slightest bit roused from her rest by him.

Dart may be a bit of a spazz, but he didn't seem malicious. Sure, orbaru were not supposed to be malicious, but if that was true then someone should really tell that to Lazare. He was a little bit mischievous even before he became a full blown battle orbaru, but now he was especially dangerous to things around the house. Kicking and biting the furniture and such. At least all of it was meant to be kicked and bit; it just wasn't something that orbaru did often. Little Dart on the other hand really just wanted to get out of this weird clear enclosure, and get to the female to play! Pixie eventually rolls over finally when Renathan nearly trips on a rock on the last turn to the breeding center. Thankfully he didn't go sprawling (he had done that before actually) but he did manage to make Pixie open exactly one eye, yawn like it took a ton of effort to do so, and then stretch out. She was definitely the laziest of his sloth orbaru most of the time; unlike her more focused friends and even the mischievous Kingfisher. It was a real mess, having this many orbaru... Renathan probably needed to rethink this.

Renathan's favorite type of orbaru used to be the silkies, but he found them more than a little difficult to deal with nowadays. They had so much fur, and it often got stuck in inopportune places and caused the poor creatures to have to rip it out if they couldn't slip it out. The entire house was already basically baby proofed, but it had to be re-proofed for long furred babies. Renathan did love his silkies, especially little Stormie, but he really wasn't sure if he wanted a bunch more of them. The sloths were often the easiest to care for, with their sleeping. Some of them over-ate and Renathan had to enforce a bit of rough and tumble play for them to get them to slim back down to a safe and healthy size. A lot of them were on little orbie-diets, to make sure that they stayed that plump but not too endangered roundness that was the best for the sloth variety. Pixie tended to stay slimmer on her own, mostly because she didn't eat as much because she slept a little more. As such, nearly as soon as she was awoke, catching the eye of the excitable male again, she went back to sleep.

Dart started back up with his back-leg thumping, more like a rabbit than an orbaru in all honesty, trying to get the attention of the female. She had seen him, she'd seen him, and now he wanted her to pay more attention to him! He practically screamed 'look at me!' at her. Renathan frowned quietly, thankful that the breeding center was now in sight so that he could get in there before it started to snow- oh. The sky suddenly opened up, starting with a few small puffs of snow, and then a slowly picking up downpour. Renathan frowned beneath his mask, tucked his twin tails closer to him, and shuddered. It was so very cold! What was he supposed to do about this? He still had at least two blocks to walk, and he didn't want to stress the poor creatures out any worse by running. He sighed, drew his shoulder cloak and waist sash a little further over him so that he wouldn't be too cold the best he could with his arms that were quite obstructed by the two critter crates being held beneath his armpits, and moved as quickly as he could without jostling the pair of orbaru.

At least this male seemed quite excited. The last few males that Renathan had brought that were not Lazare had been either sad because their bonded brothers were not coming with them into the breedings (to keep the males from possibly ignoring the female, or the wrong male getting to the female, that would be a disaster), or stressed because the females were a little more excitable than they were. Thankfully, Dart probably wasn't going to have anxiety during this, at least Renathan hoped he wouldn't wind up having that too after raising this much cain during the trip. Pixie, on the other hand, would probably take a long time to be wooed, and Renathan wouldn't be surprised if they spent most of today just trying to get her to do what female orbaru did. Most of the time the females were more than ready, but Pixie was just lazy. Renathan hadn't bred her until now due to it, but now he was hoping for a little sloth baby, and he was probably going to have the best chance to get it from her, with those colors at least. He could have used her mother for the breeding, but he figured it was Pixie's turn.

Pixie was pretty, anyway. With that nice soft purple coat, though it was as dark as night, he was sure that she would produce some nice velveteen kits. Dart, on the other hand, was just perfect. Renathan had heard about him, and had to see him for himself. He had one of those aarg orbaru, the ones that look like dart frogs, but this one just had the softest, blendiest colors! Nothing like the aargs that must have produced him. Renathan couldn't help but wonder who the other parent was, since he was such a pretty outcome. He doubted there would be another like him out there. So he just had to ask to borrow him, he was just so very cute. However, his little personality sure was something, wasn't it? He was still making as much trouble as possible, even as Renathan was just moving as speedily as quickly to the breeding center's front door in order to actually get out of this blasted cold. Renathan managed to make it to the door just as the snow started to collect on the ground even the thinnest little veneer on the grass and the road itself and sidewalk that Renathan had been walking on.

Thankful to seen be rid of standing in the flurry of snow, Renathan reached out for the door handle after sort of moving one of the crates to the side so that they could just barely reached out to get to the knob itself. It was cold, of course that made sense since it was cold outside, but it still jolted him a little bit since he hadn't quite had that on his mind to expect at that exact second. Still, he managed to twist the doorknob and get the door open, and then he sort of half-shimmied inside since he had a lot of difficulty in order to hopefully get himself in and be able to shut this door. He knew the orbaru were fine, but he was cold and didn't really want to deal with the cold any longer than he had to at all. "Come on, alley-oop!" Renathan said, beneath his breath, as he just barely managed to get past the half door half obstacle on the way inside. He closed it gently with the pad of his foot, and found himself shivering in the doorway. He hadn't really even thought much past this point, so it took him a moment to catch his bearings.

Yes, Renathan hated the winter. Absolutely hated the cold and the ice, he liked the snow only when he was inside nice and warm to watch it through a window. He hated actually being out in it. Having a job this winter was both good and bad in a multitude of fashions. For one, it forced him to get out even though he tended to be quite depressed in the winters. For two though, it forced him to be out to get there even though it was so cold that it actually physically hurt some of his joints. It was frustrating, absolutely annoying to have to do, but it was what was best for him regardless of what he otherwise thought. He wouldn't post up his shop this winter and stay at home, he had to push through it, even though it was incredibly difficult for him to push through some days. He never felt this way during the summer and fall, though it took a while to melt away in the spring. He thought about this as he stood there shivering, and then he finally made his way to the front counter, getting in the tiny line that they got there.

Renathan had not at all been expecting there to be a line, no matter how small here. It was winter, it was cold and nearly unbearable. Quite a few different folks in the labs city holed up all winter, and Renathan did not judge them over it. Renathan judged himself over it a bit, but it was because he felt bad for anything related to his homeland that held him back in any kind of manner, it was something he didn't want to have to explain to anyone that noticed it and asked him about it so he just tried to stay away from folks while he wasn't feeling very good at all. He was in the line now, feeling a little cold and miserable, but the two orbaru were safe and sound and even warm in their little crates. At least they would be okay, Renathan thought, as he looked down at them. He smiled beneath his mask in an attempt to right his mood. One of the people filled out their paperwork and got out of line. Pixie rolled over in her crate and nearly knocked Renathan out of balance though he was able to catch himself, and jolted Dart a tad.

Dart jumped around the best he could in his little cage. Luckily Renathan had planned for bringing a silky today, and managed to remember to bring one of the crates that were made a little different to keep the silky's fur from getting caught in the typical holes and plasticky parts that the crates were usually made with. These were made with as few parts as possible so that they didn't get into any of the parts with their long fur bits and bobs. Renathan tried to calm Dart down, and in order to do that Renathan had to gently put Pixie down on the floor for a second as gently as possible so that he could hold the thing in both of their hands. "Calm down Dart, little one. Calm down." Renathan said, his tail tips twitching as he tried to figure out how to get the thing to calm down enough to pay attention to anything else. After a good moment or two, the creature finally calmed down as much as Renathan could get him to, and Renathan scooted Pixie's crate forward a little bit using his foot now that the line was a little shorter than it was.
