It was a sunny day for a colder month, and the two Pachee really seemed to enjoy it. One wobbled paw in front of paw, trying to keep up with her human. The male darted forward very few seconds until he reached the young man's side and then paused until he got too far away again. Their personalities were cute individually, and hopefully even more so when together. It was their first breeding, and Riku was excited to see if they would make a good pair. The girl seemed rather docile and friendly so far. The boy was a bit skittish, but wanting affection and company.
Riku was glad he was able to breed for Albinos. He was sure, before, if the magical berry would even work - as it was only a rumor and not at all part of any book he had read about Pachee breedings. That one was only his second ever breeding, and he was pretty confident in the female and abundance berry - something he was sure he would use again and again, since they were obviously extremely valuable for such a smaller price point. In fact, he feared that their price would go up if he continued to show that those were in such demand. Would Turner raise the price since he bought so many...? Or perhaps continue to give him a discount since he bought them in bulk? If only he could buy healing and magical berries there, too. He wondered what else a magical berry could do - but he wasn't really ready to trial them himself.

In fact, he had heard another rumor that a mushroom was once fed to a pachee during a breeding and had made the offspring sterile...being a male...or female? Neither, really. It had no slit but also no pollen. He wondered if the creature even noticed. Did it want to reproduce and simply was not able to? Did it simply not have the desire at all? Was it otherwise normal, psychologically? Or was it also mentally...stunted?
Then again, the whole mushroom thing was only a rumor. He looked over at his two creatures as they were reaching the breeding center at the edge of the labs. Should he have leashes on these things...? He still wasn't very familiar with them, socially. He wasn't exactly sure if he liked Pachee, yet. They were initially cute, yeah, and they had an interesting anatomy. However, so far they seemed more simple than what Riku preferred.
At least a Malii could mostly understand him. They could also pretty easily take care of themselves - other than a few hygienic and vanity tasks like cleaning out their ears and polishing their sharp horn. However, a Pachee seemed more.....stupid? He didn't like that he needed to babysit them outside the garden.

Then again.....Even a Malii needed supervision. Otherwise they'd steal fish from the market and get into people's jewelry and such. And if someone accidentally brushed up against their tails? Yikes! They'd have a horn stabbing their booty before they even realized what that soft fluff was against the back of their hand.
He wondered if Pachee were capable of attack...he studied their little paws as they walked alongside him, both on the grass rather than the concrete. They didn't seem sharp or solid enough to do serious damage. Maybe a simple scratch? Their feet surely weren't strong kickers - and they didn't even have a mouth to bite anything. That wasn't a super common feature...but Riku couldn't be completed weirded out by missing a normal anatomical piece. After all, Malii had no pupils - something he was so incredibly used to that he didn't even notice anymore whatsoever.
"C'mon, Alta." he said to the little girl who had stopped to smell a yellow wild flower on the side of the pavement. She pulled it close by the base without actually plucking it out, and held it right up to her face. Riku wondered if its pollen could somehow get her to have a kit on its own.

The strange slit on her forehead winked open and closed as she seemed to examine the specimen. Wait...did Pachee have nostrils? He had never thought about it before! Could they smell!? They sure seemed to in his minor history with them...but maybe they didn't do it the same way he did. Maybe their skin somehow absorbed the chemicals and enzymes out of the air, just like the inside of normal noses, in order to smell the area around them. That...must have been it. Right? Surely they wouldn't just be without the sense of smell? He knew they could taste - just with their feet - since he had witnessed their preference for different berries a few times already. So they must smell in some different way as well. That or they did have nostrils and he just didn't see them? Maybe they were behind their ears?
Andy tugged on his lower pant leg as he waited for the female pachee to catch up. "Hey, little guy." he said warmly, looking down. "Oh." he said, feeling a bit silly as he clearly saw the male's nostrils at last. Well...at least he knew he was a very perceptive human. "Okay guys, we're pretty much here."

Alta caught up with her little waddly legs and Riku picked up the male, since he persisted to tug on his pant leg. It was too cute to resist! They crossed the street carefully and Riku wondered if the asphalt hurt the little girl's lower paws. She seemed to get down on all four to divide her weight and she hopped a bit further to apparently make the number of steps she'd need a bit less. So he took that as at least some discomfort. Unfortunately, he didn't think he could hold both. His original idea was to hold each of their hands like children and look both ways before crossing. The idea was sweet, but Andy wouldn't let Riku put him down! Every time he leaned over and let go, the pachee would tie his arms behind his neck and hang on for dear life. Aww...He was cute, but kind of needy. Riku liked it for now, but knew it would get old eventually. He was too introverted to take care of the creature full time.
He opened the door to the place and gestured for Alta to step inside. She took a huge sniff and ran up to the desk where the receptionist was.

Andy reached out his arms towards his female friend while he was still being held by Riku. He started to lean forward, which threw off his arm-balance as well, so Riku quickly leaned over to put him down as gracefully as he could. With a bit of a fumble and almost a drop on is side, the male found his already walked legs on the floor and started walking towards Alta with his arms still out.
She turned around and saw him coming near, unsure of what to do. Did she play hard to get? Give him everything? Give him just one victory...? Time was up, and the little boy had wrapped his arms around her in the most adorable little hug!
"Ohhh...! That is too cute!" Riku exclaimed, his face turning red and the need to smother something to death rising rapidly. Why did adorable things have that effect on people? He just wanted to love them to death. Literally!
He looked up at the receptionist and gestured to the couple. "Isn't that the cutest?" but they mildly smiled and shrugged. They could have at least lied...but he figured that probably saw a lot of animal couples, y'know, working at a breeding center.

"Hi there, my name is Riku." he started "We met last week when I came in for another breeding...?" he put his hand out to shake, but the person didn't acknowledge it. They saw it - and he saw that they saw it - but they didn't shake it. That's fine...maybe they didn't like being touched. "Well, here I am. Back again for another breeding." he said with a big smile, proud of himself for his productivity and progress in his pachee research.
The receptionist, again, said nothing, but then looked down at their desk and ruffled their hands around a bit as they seemed to be gathering something. A clipboard peeked up from behind the counter that was two feet above the level of their desk. It fell flaw and then was pushed in Riku's direction.
"Um, okay." he said, grabbing a pen that was in a cup. He filled out his information and then looked down at his two Pachee, who were still hugging it out, and smiled. He wrote down 'Albino male' and 'Albino female'. Surely they would make Albino offspring as well, right? If they didn't....it would be a bit awkward. He had already promised someone an Albino pair.

The quiet receptionist took back the clipboard as soon as Riku had finished with the last line of it - somehow knowing exactly when he was done - and ripped off the second page. They handed it to him after writing something in the top right corner. Then they simply took back their attention from the boy and proceeded to stare at their desk. Riku couldn't see what it was they were looking at, since it was behind the counter. Maybe more paperwork? He got the sense they just wanted him to go away.
"Thanks..." he said, uncomfortably. Perhaps they had a cold and just didn't want to talk or spread germs. He looked down at the paper receipt. He had never got one before...but this time it said "213" at the top right. Guess he knew where to go.
"C'mon Andy, Alta." he called. "Get a room, you two." he joked, rather proudly. That was a good one, and he knew it.
They made their way to the room, holding their hug the whole way. When they got there, Alta ditched the boy and ran into the grassy flooring. Oh it was so soft...! Andy didn't even feel too bad, and he followed her onto it.

Riku laughed at their cute display. Pachee always seemed happy to see that soft grass. He wondered if it was a special kind, since they didn't seem extra fond of the stuff in front of the building before they had walked in. Or maybe it was sprayed with a special pheromone that enabled - or simply encouraged - Pachee to reproduce. Mayhaps it was in a special fertilizer...? He knew it wasn't legal to breed pachee outside the center...but was it even possible? Well...they wouldn't make a rule if it wasn't. And he knew for a fact there were wild pachee - but they did evolve differently, like with their lack of secondary eye-lids. Perhaps mating without this special grass was one of those differences as well.
Andy stood in the grass and felt the blades between his little toes. He watched Alta as she spun around in it. It was interesting to note that while she normally waddled, her dexterity seemed to go up in grassy areas. Riku supposed that made sense...
He decided to take an idea from the two, and he took off his shoes. Maybe there was something to this....other than the nutrients in the soil. He chuckled at the idea of him with little roots.

The grass was very soft! To his surprise, it made him feel very hopeful and motivated. Maybe he did have roots...? If so, they must have been spiritual. Perhaps he should go gardening more often to feel so grounded. Although....he wasn't sure if he'd do that barefoot. Rocks and bugs and all.
He reached into the puch he had brought with him. It was the original one he had got from the store, and it held the last two pachee berries to his name. Would these be the last forever...? Or would he get more after this breeding. Guess he'd have to wait and find out what the offspring looked like.
"Andy!" he called, holding out the pink fruit. The pachee ran over and took it gently from Riku's hand. He dropped the whole bundle on the floor and crushed it under his feet. "Alta!" he called to the other, who turned around and ran to him, seeing that his hand and eye-contact were directed at her this time. She came over and took the other berry and 'ate' it as well.
As they gathered the nutrients with their roots, the boy swatted his tail in enjoyment. The pollen filled the air, and a large clump of it danced around the female's head. She opened and closed the slit on her forehead, and the bigger piece went inside, as well as a few smaller dots that got lucky enough to dance with her.
Now time would tell how this breeding had gone. Either way, Riku felt rather happy with the process.
10 (Note that I'm probably done breeding Pachee entirely. I just wanted to finish up this breeding since it was promised to someone else.)
