How difficult could it be to swing a pickax at a rock? Goodness, he kept missing the darned thing. He raised his arms up with a good grip again, and threw his shoulder forward and wrist down to fling it towards the mine wall. "CLANK!" screamed the worthless stone as it made contact with the tool and sent rigid vibrations throughout the human's entire body. Finally getting his teeth to stop chattering, Riku shook his head with an athletic sigh and examined the rock. Entirely unaffected by all his might. What gives...?"Boom." Echo said with an intense expression and an appropriate hand gesture. She quickly switched to a bright smile and gigled in a high pitched voice and then ran away. "Boom, boom, boom!" she squeaked in different tones. Although she was acting cheery, she could just as easily be dark and dreary like the other half of her body. Light and Dark. Hyper and Unmotivated. She simply was both. 1

This might not have been a good idea. Silver thought that an aimless wander through the mines might produce something of value, even if it was only entertainment, but they had become hopelessly lost. Not the usual kind of lost they were used to, but proper lost. Everything was dark and cramped it smelled like wet rocks. They were lucky that they could produce their own light source since they of course forgot to bring one with them. They didn't have any tools to help them mine, either. So they simply continued to meander around, hoping that something interesting would present itself. It was Caffeine's huge ears which shop up first. Silver noticed the way she stiffened up and paused as well to listen. 'Boom, boom, boom!' they could hear someone yelling. It sounded dangerous, so without a second thought Silver ran around the corner and straight toward the voice. They had no idea what they would do when they got there, but they had to help! 2[90.3 - 0.2]

Everyone knows there are creatures in the mines...but more importantly, everyone knows there are creatures in the shadows. Riku was already always wary of the loud clangs he made with that pickax. It was why he preferred shovels and chisels - or just finding looser rocks on the floor or hanging off the ceiling.
Sometimes you heard something in the distance. Often a clang of likely another wary miner. Sometimes a slither of something he'd never seen and wanted to avoid - especially when it sound giant. All Riku knew was that noises in a dangerous place were something he wanted to avoid.
"Boo-OOM!" Echo screamed again. The echo of Echo's echo was echoing through the hall of the mine, and it was calling something.....! Something was coming, and they could hear the footsteps getting closer and faster.
He froze in his place, paralyzed, not knowing what to do. He didn't have aweapon. There was only a pickax and a shov-Oh. Duh, those were weapons. He hesitantly held up his pickax as if to swing at whatever came around the corner at them.
"BOOMMMM!" she sounded in a disturbingly deeper voice than he had thought possible for a little girl, and he instinctually dropped the weapon and ran to her, covering her mouth.
...but the damage was already done. He stood there behind her, covering her mouth as she giggled in his hand. They stared at the corner as whatever destiny had in store for them sounded to be just around it. Was this the end?
When they saw the ferocious beast, before he could even imagine exactly how he was going to die, Riku let out a deathly shriek of defeat and horror - instinctually attempting to scare off the fiend. His eyes were closed, and he dared not open them until....until he could not anymore!

The claws of the Scuta clickity clacked against the rock floor. She followed Silver closely at their heels, not because she was trained to, but because she was afraid of what might happen if she didn't. Silver wasn't a very big person, but they did stand taller than her, so she kept as close to them as she could for protection. This place of rocks and crystals was fascinating but also terrifying. She visibly jumped a bit with every strange new sound to be heard.
Silver rounded the corner and was prepared for the worst. There could be a huge tunnel worm trying to eat someone for all they knew. Much to their surprise, it was just a person attempting to hide, what looked like a Harachiu of some sort, and a bunch of tools on the ground. Silver couldn't believe that was the whole story, so they looked around. There had to be a huge monster or magical beast around somewhere, right? They didn't see anything. Might as well just ask the guy if he was okay.
"Are... are you alright?" was all that they said.

......Those were common words. Not a roar, or a crunch, or swish, or a slither...
He slowly opened his eyes, one hand still over his face in terror as his mouth still lay open from the scream. It...was...a person. Where was the monster? He stood for a moment, not really processing the question at first.
"Are you alright?" Echo mimicked. "You. YOUUU!!!" she sang. "Right. Are you...?" she looked up at her friend, who still hadn't spoken.
"I..um, yes." he said, realizing the mistake, but mildly hoping there was still a monster behind this person so he wouldn't have to be so embarrassed. "I was just startled, that's all." he said, clearing his throat and releasing his little bipolar musical beast from his grasp. She skipped away from him and admired the other creature.
"Are you alright?" she asked them, not knowing what she was saying but rather thinking it was another form of 'hello'.

Oh, it was a... Harachiu-like creature, maybe a crossbreed? The idea made them uncomfortable, not at all helped by all of the shouting she was doing. This was way weirder than whatever they were expecting. They took a slow breath but tried not to make it obvious that they were doing so. This would all be fine if they could just relax and figure out what was really going on.
"Ah, alright," Silver said. Just startled. Well that made two of them. "I heard shouting, so I was worried that someone might be hurt, but I think I found out what was happening." Silver smiled and looked down at the little creature that they assumed was the source of all the shouting before, given how much of it she'd done since they got there.
Caffeine took a few steps back when she approached. She looked tense with her tail low and her ears pinned to her head. She wanted no part of whatever this was. She just wanted to dig holes and eat treats.

"Oh, sorry..." Riku blushed at the remark about screaming. "Echo isn't really...domesticated?" he smiled at her as she tried to get closer to the Scuta. "I actually found her here and she followed me home. I still have no idea how long she'd been here or where she came from exactly. She's definitely not a golem or tunnel worm." He put his hands in his pockets, unsure of what to do with his arms.
Echo stepped forward towards the other creature, who had visibly showed signs of discomfort. She reached her hand out to attempt to pat its head as she said "Good...Ma-alii!" with a giggle.
"Echo, be careful. I don't think they wanna play..." he said, aware of the animal's behavior. He turned around and grabbed the pickax off the floor that he had dropped earlier and set it with the other tools. Now that his designated area was 'proper', he introduced himself.
"I'm Riku, by the way." he said with a soft smile, reaching out in politeness - though he always hated the touching part.

After making sure that his familiar was fine and not bothering the other person's companion too much, he looked back at the new person he had just met by fate. They seemed like a nice person, especially having come so heroically at the sound of possible terror. It..was bravery, right? Not stupidity? He laughed internally, like he often did, because he realized that even stupidity was much more brave than his shrieking a bit ago. He definitely needed to work on that.
He had decided not to fully extend his hand after all, going with his gut on the whole 'no-touching' part. He admired the other person for a moment before deciding to move on with his work. Their skin and hair seemed to glow and sparkle which was beautiful...but he didn't allow himself to dive into those feelings. "It was nice to encounter you, I think." he laughed. "However, if you don't mind, I'm going to get back to what I was doing. I have some more walking to do into the mine to reach my actual honey-spot."
Echo cooed as she followed him and the cart down the hall. "Are you alright!" she happily greeted to them as they faded away.
