Fanged found her skin itching to leave and the sensation didn’t settle until the area around them opened up some. Gideon watched her curiously, as though she couldn’t quite figure out what had Fanged so perturbed. Jagged branches hanged down across the path. Even if this area wasn’t quite as thick as the last had been, Fanged couldn’t quite shake the feeling that she was walking through the maw of a giant tree beast. As though sensing her uneasiness, Gideon picked up the pace. She forced the woman to adopt a trot as they traversed through this portion of the path. When they reached the end, the duo found themselves at the base of a giant oak tree. Its leaves had long fallen off and its branches remained barren. She wasn’t quite sure what its purpose would be, but she felt as though this massive tree had some sort of significance.

Fanged suddenly felt glad that she had brought a companion with her. Despite Gideon’s young age and small size, she had a tenacity that was unmatched by most of her other creatures. And right now, she felt small within the shadow of the giant tree. She felt she could relate to the Felusine even more. What the purpose of this tree was unknown to the both of them and they could simply stand here and ponder it for a while. There was no rush in the grand scheme of things, they could simply exist in a peaceful state if that was what they wished. She was the protector of this small pet, and she would do her best to fulfil that promise. Gideon was the first to break the trance between the two of them and the strange tree. She didn’t want to stick around further to find out if this tree had greater powers.

Fanged found her senses returning to her properly as they left the vicinity of the tree. She tried to purge her mind of the few remnants of the existential crisis she had been experiencing as she stepped around the bend in the pathway. Gideon seemed pleased with this change in her and she followed with a renewed sense of confidence. Something about that tree had certainly been odd. She found herself remembering the mission she had wanted to accomplish. She wanted to track down a creature and teach Gideon how to do so as well. So far, they had come up short but they hadn’t really attempted the endeavor all that much yet. The area around them opened up into a field, and Fanged found herself calmer than she had been in the enclosed area of forest. The field didn’t feel particularly remarkable, but that didn’t mean there weren’t creatures to be found.

There was a certain danger when it came to tracking down creatures. She knew that Gideon would grow up to be a clever creature with a potential powerful arsenal of moves at her disposal, but baby pets weren’t very adept at fighting. They could certainly find something that might end up quite a lot more powerful than the small Gideon. Besides that, there was also the possibility of getting lost. Fanged considered herself to be quite skilled at navigation, but it was always possible for even the most advanced explorer to find themselves in a spot of trouble. Anyone was subject to experiencing a bad fall or maiming at the hands of a more powerful foe. After all, no matter how strong or magical you were, there was always someone more powerful out there. Power was something that was always accumulating, so even if you were the most powerful being for a time.

Someone would always be out there to kick you on your ass if you got complacent with your own power gathering. As the sunlight continued to rise, Fanged found herself growing disoriented in its light. It seemed almost unnatural, as though someone was messing with her. A quick glance down at Gideon confirmed that the Felusine was feeling unnerved as well. Was the influence of the tree more powerful than she had thought? Her mind began to wander again. She pictured all the ways in which a person might be injured on terrain such as this. What had been a simple field could easily split open and suck a person down into a sinkhole where they would never emerge from again. Gideon pawed at her leg, indicating suddenly that she wanted to be lifted up. Fanged obliged her and the warmth of the Felusine’s fur against her skin helped to calm her.

Fanged shook the strange magnetic grip that the tree’s influence had on her away. She settled down onto the froze grass with Gideon pulled down into her lap. She ran her hands through the Felusine’s soft fur, grounding herself in the warmth of the tiny creature. Gideon leaned into her touch, relaxing immensely when she ran her finger through the fur across her shoulder blades. She itched the areas that Gideon indicated needed scratching and the two stayed like that for a while, bonding and trying to shake away their feelings of uneasiness. When Gideon stood up again, Fanged followed her and stretched out her stiff limbs. Her muscles were irritated by how tense she had been and as she relaxed, they made their discomfort known to her. Gideon led her over towards an area where the weeds had frozen over. In the sunlight, they had begun to melt, dripping water down their stems.

She watched the scene for a few moments, enthralled in the simplistic beauty of the field. She reached out a hand and ran her fingers down the melting stems. Gideon huffed at her, as though laughing at her childish antics. Even though weeds could be unhealthy for a garden, Fanged couldn’t quite bring herself to yank these ones out. Gideon didn’t seem to have those qualms and she pawed at the closest weed until it broke free from the soil. She then shot a smug look at Fanged, trying to gauge what her reaction would be. The woman simply rolled her eyes and moved on further into the field. Gideon carried the weed with them in a childish show of triumph. She made a game of throwing it up into the air and catching it before it could hit the ground. It was a moment like this that reminded her that Gideon was still a baby.

A breeze ruffled the weeds as a cold front began to move in on the area. Fanged didn’t know a whole lot about weather, but she knew that the colder weather was supposed to begin as the season changed over into winter. Gideon grabbed at another weed, pulling it free as she once again watched Fanged for her reaction. The woman repeated her eyeroll and continued to walk forward. She stroked Gideon’s fur when she moved to walk alongside her. They rejoined the path on the other side of the field and began to follow where it took them to. If she had to guess, she thought the path was taking them towards a river since it followed a curve that didn’t quite make sense to her. A river soon appeared into view to confirm her suspicions. It was widened by the recent bouts of rainfall they had experienced and threatened to overflow.

Gideon warily approached the river. She had enough common sense not to draw too close, lest she be sucked into the current by the overflowing water. The rain had forced what was once a tiny stream into a sizable river. Fanged suspected that even someone of her size would be swept away by the current if they got too close to it.
“Be careful,” she warned Gideon even though the Felusine was already showing caution.
If the Felusine could find it in her nature to roll her eyes, she probably would. But that sort of reaction tended to be reserved for more humanoid cultures. Fanged joined her closer to the river. She made sure that her shoes had a firm grip against the ground and that there were no patches of ice to slip on. Some areas were icy and she made sure to point them out to Gideon so that she could avoid them as well.

Rivers were an abundant source of water for most creatures to drink from. Even if the water was high and the current strong, wild critters might not have the choice to avoid it. They could wait here and see if any wild creatures made themselves known. After a while, Gideon backed away from the water, frightened by its size and her inability to swim. Fanged was a fairly average swimmer. She hadn’t needed to do it much, but she thought if she needed to survive her abilities would at least prevent her from drowning. Of course, there was no fighting off a current like this one. If you ended up trapped within it, you had to let the water carry you. Fighting it would only result in you getting pulled under. She shuddered at the thought. She didn’t like the thought of being held to the mercy of the river.

These koguma sure love your garden. Maybe they chat among each other and share tips on where to get the most fruit? Either way, there's another one here, and it wants a share of your cache. To tame the creature: Make at least 3 RP posts interacting with the creature and trying to tame it. At the end of your taming attempt, make your last post with [done] and wait for staff approval.

Gideon was the first of the duo to become alert to the presence of a wild creature in their garden. Fanged was quite experienced with Koguma by now. The Felusine was more standoffish, but when Fanged remained calmed, the Felusine forced her posture to appear calm as well.
“Come on, Koguma are pretty interested in gathering food, so let’s help it with that,” she told Gideon.
The wild critter was quite eager as they approached. It had never seen such strange looking creatures before! Gideon grew curious and decided to move closer, sniffing at the air eagerly to cache the Koguma’s scent away in memory. Spring had come to their garden now. She wasn’t sure how much fruit there would be to gather yet, but she could certainly help the Koguma look for some! Cherry blossoms had already taken over a cluster of trees, perhaps some of them would have some food stashed near them.

“Hello there, fella, would you like some help looking for some food?” Fanged asked the Koguma.
The Koguma tilted its head, listening to the funny sounds that Fanged was making. It seemed to understand that her tone was offering to help it. Gideon watched it with an intent expression, waiting to see if it would do something interesting. The Koguma stood up and walked over towards the cherry blossom trees. It paused and looked back to see if Fanged and Gideon were going to follow it. The trees were tall and stretched as far as the eye could see. Surely, they would be able to find something interesting here! The Koguma looked pleased when Fanged and Gideon scrambled to follow it. The path it chose was easy to follow and a beautiful sight with the abundance of blossoms. Petals caught in the soft breeze and caught in Gideon’s fur as they floated to the ground.

Gideon didn’t appear pleased about being covered in them but Fanged found the sight quite pretty. They followed the Koguma into a small clearing where many different kinds of fruit grew on vines. It seemed a bit early in the season for the variety of fruit, but sometimes strange things happened in the gardens. There was even one tree that produced small green apples that looked surprisingly ripe. The Koguma stopped at a vine and plucked off a bunch of grapes. It handed them to Gideon before picking more.
“Still don’t know if I’d trust any of this fruit to actually taste good,” Fanged muttered. Suspicion was a natural feeling for Fanged. It was the one she could rely on the most. The Koguma watched her expectantly, only responding when the woman began to pick some fruit as well. The fruit didn’t quite feel right in her hand, but the Koguma didn’t appear to mind.
