My system is flawed and can get confusing. There is no official system because this game has many different places to level at the same time (separate times IC).
I don't wanna just put my current level in every post, since I go back and forth. So one thread could suddenly have a skip of part/several levels between posts. I like to just number my posts and then when I finish that thread I update my character. Whenever I do, I put a date and time, trying to include everything I posted before that time - however, I also only like to count full levels increments. So I wouldn't want 3/10 posts to be counted in that. I'd just count it as 0/10 until the ten were completed - but that can conflict with other levels I wanna count. Lets say I finish one here at a certain time, but my other is only partially finished. I'd either have to wait until the second was finished to post both levels, or update and not include the second.
See how it's just messy and picky?
What is your system of tracking your character's levels, especially when having multiple active threads? Note. I may steal your system. ;)

I keep track of post count per thread and calculate levels based on that. I don't number directly in the thread, and instead use the total you can get from clicking on the post number when in a board whenever I feel like its a good time to update my post counts. I haven't gotten to the point where there might be different pets at different times in a thread though, but if I keep my log updated well, I shouldn't have a problem calculating the number of posts each critter should have. Also, I dont have any levels from sources that aren't posts (like battles) but I'd probably turn the levels into posts and keep count of them as undocumented posts. Oh, and posts from the old site are listed as undocumented cause I don't want to have to dig *everything* up.
I keep everything tracked in my notes journal, see here: hxrv2.freeforums.net/post/26293 Actual levels aren't even kept track of for creatures that I havent trained yet. No real need to. But once they've got training (or training plans), they go in my logs journal: hxrv2.freeforums.net/post/26380/thread
Also, I don't really keep track of loyalty bonuses and just memorize instead. But I should probably write that down as a note on my logs.. Its a meticulous system, 'cause I gotta make sure I keep things updated and record all threads that I post in, but it works for me. Hope this gives you some insight c:

I keep a count in each thread. I start "+0 1/10" or "+ 0 1/20" and either the end of the thread, end of the month, or when I have a few levels accrued and need them, I edit the last post and put "5 3/10" and add them to my character sheet.
Or i put " - c -" at the end of the post.
If I get a mix of /10 and /20 posts, I convert them to /20. So 2/10 is 4/20 and keep a running count.
I bookmark all the posts I rp in for tracking.

Usually if a thread is a shop/with another player, I add the post amount to the level after the thread ends even if it has a decimal. Otherwise the level is updated when one of my threads hits the the point a level would be gained or I decide to end the thread.

I keep an ongoing count of all of my levels that is cumulative across roleplays. Whatever my most recent post is, that's my character's current level. (Same for pets, but they're generally only in once place at once.) I log level (and calculate the loyalty) for pets in my journal. I update them when I know I'm done with a particular rp or just occasionally if it's ongoing.
I mark my levels in a unique way, as far as I can tell, in that I use decimals instead of fractions. So instead of saying "1 and 1/10 posts" I do "1.1", since 1/10 is .10. Pets gain levels at 1/5 which is .20 per post, and 1/20 in advanced areas becomes .05. This allows me to keep my running totals across areas with different leveling systems, though I understand why nobody else does it this way. Ashe's way is more intuitive for most people, I think.

I keep track of all of my threads on my character page, and count up all of my posts total. It's not perfect but I like how tidy it is, and it's not that much work to maintain and update my thread totals once in a while. I'm also vain about my formatting and like my pretty footer without including character level

I almost always do my roleplays in multiples of five, and try to do multiples of ten and twenty for leveling purposes. IF I don't get to twenty before the mansion rolls over, I just cut my losses and ignore the posts usually. I also have been known to restart my counts in the park after my character or pet gains a certain number of levels.
I don't count Renathan's levels in quests at all (no point) but I -always- put 20 posts in for Morgan's quests in an attempt to keep up with levels. I figure if I ever don't get a success in that number (entirely possible) then I'll probably cut my losses at the end.
I don't count levels in shops ever. I easily keep up with when I've counted levels. I 'make a big deal' (celebrate, get up, change gears with what I'm doing and then come back to the roleplay later) with myself about counting a level for my character every 20 posts in the mansion, or every 10 in the park so that I don't forget to do it. /I remember stuff really well when I change gears and then come back to what I was doing after doing 'the process' the same way every time. 1. Note that I gained a level. 2. Stop roleplaying. 3. Get a drink. 4. Update my Character Page. 5. Do a mod thing, an errand, or do another thing on another game. --Optional, rotate gears to another roleplay (IE: If mansioning and training at the same time, switch to the other thing). 6. Come back to roleplay again.
This effectively keeps me from forgetting to add Levels, or accidentally adding a level twice, since I do it the exact same way every time.
The Reason: I do so many different roleplays at a time sometimes that I'm sure if I counted them using a decimal or fractional system I lose track really fast (issue I had before on crapatalk v2). So I only ever do levels if I 'make it' to the correct number (or multiple of number) for the area.
Sure, I've probably skipped a few times when I could have added a level to my character due to (not counting levels in shops/etc.), but it's no real issue. The character will get there when they get there when it comes to skills. c: I'm in no hurry.
