So lately I've been sort of 'experimenting' with cool apps I see ads for. Kind of started when I finally got Etsy and it opened up a new world for me. Then Noom was advertised heavily on Hulu, and thanks to a facebook group I found out about Coursera...
What apps have you heard about and wanted to try? Maybe someone here has some experience with that app!
What apps have you tried and thought were really cool? Post about them!
Right now, some of my favs are: (with more in depth reviews in the spoiler)

Noom
This is a psychological weight loss app. It doesn't DO anything different from free things like My Fitness Pal or the like, but effort has gone into making this a daily habit, and it keeps you motivated. You can get the first two weeks for free I think, or a small donation of like $1 or $3.
I went ahead and bought the 4 months, kinda pricey, comes out to like $34 a month. It's not like they give you any info that you probably don't already know BUT the daily tasks and reading gives you incentive to open the app daily, you get into the habit of weighing yourself daily, and since you've made a habit of these things you also pay more attention to the food you eat, so you can add it to your food diary daily. Does that stop me from going over my calorie limit? Not always. I have gotten into the habit of saying "gotta tell Noom!" And my friends will see me eating a donut and ask, "Does Noom approve?"
Also, they talk to you like they know what you're going through. The struggles, the plateaus, the difficult process, the up and down weight change. It helps when you don't feel like a failure every time you go over your limit, and I actually feel like this is becoming more of a lifestyle for me, rather than "I just gotta give up all good food for a few months until I reach my goal". I already think of foods in color (they grade food calories allowed based on 3 color categories). And did I mention a meal at TB fits right in? So I don't have to give up my food, just eat in MODERATION.
I do feel like this is more geared toward people who struggle more than me, so if you have trouble sticking to any plan and need daily reminders and motivation, give it a try. If you already have a plan and are doing good on your own, I don't think this will do much for you. It does give you tips and thoughts on how to fight negative self talk, and funny ways to remember things (like the goofy tricks to remember medical terms almost).
I'm doing a (slower) P90X alongside this plan. I've only dropped 10-15pounds in about 3-4 weeks and it would be more if.... krispie kreme didn't just open by my house. But a coworker said shes seen changes in my body shape so hopefully the muscle defining workout is helping even if the scale isn't moving!
Coursera
This is an online college app that allows you to audit online college courses for FREE.
Daff Moon
Pretty basic but fun. Shows you the exact phase of the moon. They have a widget so you can put it on your home screen and see at a glance!

You don't get the college credit or the paper saying you finished the course unless you pay money (like $80), but seeing as a lot of colleges don't accept transfer credits, and all that mix and match drama, I don't think it matters. I'm one of those people that wants to learn about EVERYTHING but going to a college and taking all the fun courses that don't fit in with my major...is a waste of time and money. Here I am, at the USPS, and I can watch some quick video lectures at break or lunch, I can do a couple lessons while on the treadmill at the gym, etc. I'm not going to enroll into a college just to take a fun course about dinosaurs, or an astronomy class... But here I can, for free!
Currently I'm taking a Dinosaur 101 Paleontology class, and a college-entry level Spanish class and loving it.
