Renathan was never really sure what to expect at the Questing Board. Some months it was more of what could be expected, a simple cork board with lots of slips of papers on it, sometimes more and sometimes much less. Sometimes though, the board was covered in all kinds of horrible decorations, each one seemingly in an attempt to try to outdo the last. This month, Renathan was partially cringing because he wasn't sure what could be worse than last month's questing board, and partially because Remington was not used to him yet, and was pulling on the lead a bit. "Come on, Remington-" Renathan said, voice a tad growly as he did so. Finally he resorted to baiting the creature by holding a carrot. Finally, he was at the questing board! The mammalian wrapped the lead around his hand and wrapped his tails around his ankles out of habit to make sure that Remington wouldn't step on his poor tails. He felt a little bad, going out without Auburn again today, but some of his other creatures needed attention too, and she really did get most of his attention all the time.

However, Renathan was finally beginning to realize that he probably shouldn't try to bring creatures out for the first time by themselves when he was going out to do some kind of quest. It really was a shame- just thinking about it as he tried to wrangle this poor creature to the quest board. Whenever he finally managed it, he was able to keep him there with a gentle pat and his own strength while he looked over the questing board. He wanted to check all of the pieces of paper before deciding which one he wanted to take this month. It seemed that the last few months he was railroaded into doing one thing or another, but this month he actually wanted to make his own selection instead of being stuck with something. Remington ate his snack and then looked around nervously, his head low to the ground as he carefully watched.
Renathan especially needed to realize, sooner rather than later, that bringing out both herbivores AND carnivores without actually having bonded with them first was a bad go at it, especially since they both had different reasons to possibly be dangerous to himself and others. Carnivores would hunt, but most of the time they would stop if they weren't too hungry, or if they felt that the prey item would make more trouble than it was worth. However, Herbivores felt endangered VERY easily, and if one tried to fight it, it just made them want to hurt and maim you MORE so that you didn't 'attack' them. It was a crying shame that Renathan had been so used to being around well-behaved creatures that he didn't really remember what it was like to be around less well-behaved ones. As soon as another person came around to the questing board, Remington lowered his antlers at them and pawed the ground.
Renathan hadn't really noticed it, himself, until Remington started to do his ground pawing, and at that point it was nearly too late. "Remington, No!" He said, as he pulled back with all his might in order to knock Remington a little bit off balance and jerk him back enough to keep him from trying to hurt anyone else. Luckily for Renathan, whoever the heck that was had the sense to get out of dodge and rushed away. Well, that was horrifically embarrassing. What kind of a person brings a creature out into public like this that could be dangerous, anyway? Renathan could practically hear them griping in his head.
Ah well, Renathan thought as he turned back to the questing board. "Eenie-meanie-minie-moe!" He mumbled, selecting a paper at random. He looked across it, still holding on to Remington's lead patiently as he did so, and realized that this one was a great idea!
This particular paper appeared to have some trees on it, and even a little fancy-looking seal pressed down into the soft wax on the paper. What could it be? Renathan ran his finger absentmindedly over the seal (itself looking a bit like a stand of three trees, or meant to be a forest perhaps?) as he read the semi-cursive writing across it. Apparently there was going to be a bit of a shindig going on out there on a row just outside of the labs city to replant some trees that had been iced down in a recent winter storm. Renathan was digging that, it shouldn't be too difficult to do and Renathan was sure that there probably wouldn't be a whole ton of people out there if he got there early enough. That would be a good thing, so that he could bring Remington too and try to get the cross a little more used to him.
Renathan decided to indeed take this one (sure, he'd picked it at random, but he wound up liking the idea of it anyway- perhaps he should start picking them at random more often?) and he turned away, once again trying and struggling before failing at trying to get Remington to move away from the position he had taken near the quest board and he finally sighed. "Another carrot, right?" Renathan mumbled, pulling yet another of them from his pocket before ducking his head and trying to gently lead the creature to follow him. After entirely too long in Renathan's opinion (actually about fifteen minutes), Remington was finally stood back up and following after him. Renathan checks out to make sure he knew where he was going via the paper before turning around, trying to get there. Remington caused trouble the entire way there, stamping and pawing at the ground and trying to be a general butt.
It took a long while to get there, what with Remington being a mess and all, but he was finally slowly edging from 'general destructiveness' to 'only wanting to try to fight Renathan because he was pulling on him' which was a distinct positive in Renathan's book at least. Still, it was difficult to keep him after the carrots, and not trying to spear Renathan with those ultra-long antlers of his. Renathan had been told that he was some kind of a regal galabex mix, and honestly he looked more Regal galabex than anything else. The other piece of the cross had to have a long tail, but it could really be anything. Renathan had his money on some kind of equillion, though. He was pretty dangerous, so Renathan kept up on his toes. "Some day, Remington, we're gonna get along." He mumbled, as they finally made it to the area. A stand of places for trees to be grown marked the spot.
Well, wasn't that quaint? The little farm smelled good already, the mammalian's nose draws in the scent of the earliest spring buds in the fruit orchards beginning to hit his nose, and of course a faint underscore of honey and pollen as the bees started their yearly gathering with the first flowers. It would seem that Renathan was going to help get this orchard started up, yet another cluster in a five-pointed star of clusters around a center farmhouse. The human lead Remington with some difficulty as they continued on. The large russet creature was beginning to get more and more restless, perhaps because of the good smelling foodstuffs nearby. "Hold your horses, Remington." The mammalian said, trying to reign him in even though he was quite strong all things considered. The creature pulled and pulled, but at least they were both going in the same direction now! That was a relief.
It was pretty obvious that if Remington even had horses to hold, he would not have done so and especially not on command. Renathan clucked his tongue anyway and tried to keep Remington from dragging him all over the world, though it was working only a small amount at best. Renathan did everything but result to cursing the creature on the rest of the dirt road down the farm lane that would need to be planted, and it made the ten minute walk at most last almost thirty minutes and cause Renathan to feel muscle fatigue on the way there. Once they finally got to the front gate Renathan was plenty sure that he thoroughly regretted taking Remington on this, since this was his first outing. Perhaps he should have taken Diesel instead? At least he was a little less snarly than he was a few weeks ago. Renathan lined up to get ready to go on in.
It was surprising to Renathan how many people were lined up to help here. Did people always get together to help with these kind of things or was this the power of the questing board again, giving people imaginary points to trade for stuff to get them to get together and do this kind of thing? Either way, Renathan felt like the questing board was a successful institution in the City. He could remember a time when people mostly didn't help anyone else at all, and everyone was really stuck if something bad happened. This was nice, Renathan thought, as he fought with Remington (who really decided he wanted some of those fruit or something out there) who was pulling on the leash like a madman. At least Renathan had the strength and patience to deal with it, and he had the common sense to keep away from other folks while it was going on.
It was always a big chance that Renathan took when he took these kinds of creatures out, especially in public, and he didn't really think about it as much as he should before making his decisions. All around, his beloved familiar Auburn would have been a much better choice for this quest, or perhaps even Shy Guy if he was not currently gearing up for a contest, but Renathan had chosen to take Remington out for a walk, and then had decided to go pick up a quest for the month, and then had just decided to go to the questing site instead of actually going home with the unruly beast at any point therein. Other people in the line had different reactions to Renathan having this creature with him. The sensible got out of the way, the easily frustrated shot him 'looks', and a few of the fearful cut in line.
Renathan didn't really blame any of them, but he wasn't the kind of person to let it bother him either. Slowly but surely, the line was clearing out. Why was it that Renathan always found himself waiting in lines? Were there that many people going to do the same things that he wanted to do, or was it usually that he got there about the same time as everyone else? Probably the latter. The line cleared out, and Renathan found himself in front of the person doing the registering soon enough. He gave a slight intonation of his head out of politeness, and reached for the paperwork. After filing it out with a lot of difficulty since Remington was RARING to go, Renathan finally switched arms on the leash (ow, his arm was sore) and then they went out to go figure out what the best way to help out today would be.
There were people running around everywhere. Some holding pots of little trees about a foot tall, and some holding watering cans of all things. The ground was already pretty wet enough, Renathan thought. It had been rainy lately, as was typical of the season. Remington was steadily pulling in a specific direction, but said direction was towards the other orchards, and that was not where they needed to be. Renathan tried to find another treat for him, and managed to pull one out to give to him to try to get him to stop being difficult for now. Remington stopped pulling as much, and Renathan managed to find the shovels while the creature had the worst of his inclinations to run off stopped for now. Now armed with a shovel and a creature that was absolutely ridiculous, Renathan searched for a spot away from others to start the planting process for the saplings before actually going to get them.

Riku: I got three pet levels and 15c out of it. <3 And all the necessary posts for my job salary form.
May 31, 2020 18:49:26 GMT -6
Riku: In mine my crossbreed used foxfire to burn it - but then it used incendiary illusion, which was extra scary because my cross is a plant pet with thick fur. It used the distraction to escape. I’m proud of it, and it’s okay that I won’t finish this month.

Renathan: *But of course, the RNG was not having that. / In Morgan's story, the Nyssa was a real thing, so I wanted to have two different situations for the variety.
May 31, 2020 18:15:27 GMT -6
Renathan: Yeah, the 'finished the story but the RNGods are being a butt' thing is a rather unfortunate situation to be in. I had already decided that in Ren's story, the elderly woman had lied about the nyssa and just wanted someone to talk to*

Riku: That makes sense. I've considered that before. -nod- I hope your non-hxr life is going smoothly.

Haix: Just quitting the job. Don't believe I'll be making the ten posts required per month any time soon. XD
May 31, 2020 16:34:01 GMT -6
Riku: Note to haix, I believe you can post the new application form at the same time as the quitting form. Unless you are simply taking an overall break from the job system.

Fiera Ferella: even AT the gardens yet. XD It sucks when you've finished writing your story and haven't gotten a success, because then its like "well... now what?" XD
May 31, 2020 15:51:47 GMT -6
Fiera Ferella: ive found that when there's a quest that might take longer like this, its a good idea to try and space out the story beats to try and roll a success before i get to the meat of the story. XD Like, by the time i was 5 posts in my character wasn't
May 31, 2020 15:51:21 GMT -6
Riku: It’d definitely put me a month closer to my goals, literally, at least. 🤔
May 31, 2020 15:50:19 GMT -6
Fiera Ferella: You can always try! :3 At the very least its more levels for your character and more TP for your pet
May 31, 2020 15:50:14 GMT -6
Riku: I love that you can mention that and know what it is. Muahahaha! Everyone has their secrets. 😈 (Iz not secret, just oOooOoooh mysterious effect. 😉)
May 31, 2020 15:49:41 GMT -6
Twilight-Claw: I hope you do decide and are capable of finishing it Riku! Will definitely be worth it in getting more points for your master plan.
May 31, 2020 15:48:23 GMT -6
Riku: I know...that was why I wanted to do it. Hm. Maybe I can plow through it. O.O (plow as in tumbling down a steep slope, not in the fast powerful way.)
May 31, 2020 15:48:18 GMT -6
Twilight-Claw: This quest got 3+ quest points.
May 31, 2020 15:46:39 GMT -6
Twilight-Claw: I have no idea about that one for sure, but there does seem to be a few that are nearly in the rainbow spectrum with how many different colors they have on their hide.
May 31, 2020 15:46:12 GMT -6
Riku: Note that I got panic buttons this month, so in the future if the quest is only a 1QP-er, I can go do a 3QP. Or if I simply don’t want to do a new one on both accounts, I can do an old one on the second. // I type faster than my phone screen can keep up.HA
