In turn he has to pry the hook out of the fish's mouth, though the lure is barely any larger than it. "Bit of an ambitious bite, there," he muses with some impression, as the fish continues to wiggle in the grip, but largely looks to have given up the worst of the fight. "Bet you're regretting it now." He stands, walking over to the bucket, "Good news is, you get to live. For now." Dumped into the bucket, it takes a couple of seconds for it to realize it can breathe again, before it makes a few quick movements and settles down soon after.
So. The fashion crime of a lure looks to have worked after all, and remained intact in the process. He checks it over, but doesn't seem too much of a fault to it, so he casts it back out into the river again. As for the pup, waiting patiently and excitedly beside him, there's a nock of the head towards the waters, "Well, go see what ever we can find. Search for some fish."

Whatever the lure had done the first time seems to work again the second. The wait itself is a little longer in between the cast and the catch, but when the thrashing form starts breaking the water upon being reeled in, it's easy enough to see that it matches the other fish in colouration and form. The rush of the stream doesn't always make it easy enough to see what lies just below, but one could almost think to assume there's a school of these things swimming by at this point.
Unfortunately one small bit of bad luck does still follow the catch - As he's untangling the lure from the fish's mouth, much of the hook looks to be bent out of shape this time around, so it would have to be discarded. Ah well. Still better overall result than half the other hooks he's used before. Dumping the fish into the bucket, he picks another lure from the box, this time not quite as obnoxious, but certainly still colourful. While the pup scours the shoreline by sight and sense alone, he can check to see if the fish really do have a preference to colour.

The hook is attached and the line is cast into the deeper parts of the river, such as they are. Standing on the stony shore is only a reminded of just how wide it will grow to be again, once the melting water comes down from the mountains come spring. He'd certainly seen rivers dry and swell based on seasons back home, but much like most things here, everything existed in extreme or excess within the lands of the City. They should make sure to make the best of it now, while the waters are still shallow enough to be (Mostly) safe and make spotting some catches that much easier.
Speaking of, a sudden splashing sounds nearby short after, as the pup suddenly crashes into the waters headfirst, trudging ahead deeper and deeper as if looking to plough through the water like a bow of some spiked ship, looking to be chasing after something.

Most people might get a little concerned at the sight, but the man knows the pup's able to swim without issue (And probably finds water preferable to some instances on land, even). To be sure, some things might lurk in the waters that are a tad bit bigger than your average fish, but they would be in for a rather rude awakening if they tried to bite down on that hedgehog of a pup.. The splashing continues and only intensifies as the pup veers left and right, head below the waters like some homing hound. Every now and again it does surface, if only to take a break, catch his bearings and dive down again.
Whatever he is chasing, it must be wily, or the pup just very singularly focused. Not that he can blame him.. By and large fishing is not very eventful work and most of it revolves around being quiet and patient (Neither of which ever ever the pup's forte).

This is likely as much entertainment for the pup as he was to get, unless another fish is found. The quarry manages to slip the rakai's notice a few times, as he stops and swivels his head around above the waterline, but it doesn't last long. Soon after, there's a dip back below, jaws trying to bite water almost as much as whatever he is chasing. Despite himself, the man smirks. After all, this is just as much entertainment to him as to the pup, considering the fishing line looks about as ready to snag on something as sails on a windless day.
Eventually the pup stops still, head underwater, and there's some signs of struggling, as he looks to secure the catch. Then, at last, he begins to back up towards the shore, dragging something grey and squirming from the waters, teeth firmly latched around the back of it like a vice.

The man doesn't move to assist, as there's some things the pup still needs to fine-tune in this whole fishing business and one of them is how to secure a catch as much as catching it. Besides, from the looks of the stony scaling and drab grey colour, he knows the type of fish easily enough, having already a few of them swimming around the pond back home. Not terribly exciting things, and as it turns out, not terribly expensive either. The herring of the rivers, in a way, though likely to taste a lot worse.
What does move him is a sudden tug of the line, as something catches. The surface of the water starts bubbling the usual way soon after, as the line is reeled in and the fish ends up in the much shallower parts of the river, thrashing for what it probably assumes is its life. But it won't die (Not today, at least).

With the pup reeling in the teeth-bound stone fish to one side, the man splashes into the shallows on the other, to reel in something more green and.. Well, it's not exactly the most aesthetically best looking fish, but perhaps it might still have value for anyone looking to make a fish skillet. At first it doesn't even look like fish so much as some sort of multi-armed monstrosity, but only in large part because it looks to have entangled itself within some seaweed on the way back. The man crouches and secures the fish, unhooking it from the lure that only has half of itself remaining (Great.) and picking it up. Both plant and fish are dumped into the water bucket, just in time for the rakai to finish bringing back his own find, which soon joins them.
"Not bad," the man wipes away the fish slime from his hands, smirking at the pup. "Think you can find more? Go on, fish and hunt." Meanwhile he secures a new lure to the line and casts it off. Let's see how things feel about something a little more yellow..

It can't be said the season is particularly 'dry' so much as simply low in tide. There's certainly still enough moisture in the air to put a chill in the bones if one stands around long enough, not really doing much else but staring out across the waters (Not that it would affect him, considering the blood tends to run a might bit warmer than most people). And that's not even accounting for any instances where one might get splashes with water, only adding to it.
Though he supposes they've been lucky enough with the weather so far. It's been fair all things considered. Cloudy, but fair. If the frost ever set in he'd rather hate the thought of needing to cut through ice in order to get to the fish below, much less freezing one's ass off on top of it. Even the pup might end up losing some of his enthusiastic spirit if they had to endure those conditions for long.

Instead, he has to dodge the occasional splashing as the pup dashes past, cutting through the shallow water with rather alarming speed. One wouldn't really realize it when looking at them, considering the weird wisp-flames and all, but the rakai apparently make excellent fishers. The hunting instinct is certainly there, even if the pup doesn't necessarily always know how to properly apply it.
More often than not he ends up running back with something in his mouth, entirely far too enthusiastic about the find, until he drops it at the man's feet and it turns out to be just a weirdly shaped rock. To be sure, it can be difficult at times to make a distinction between a clam shell and rocks, due to the natural camouflage, but the consistency of the rock-bringing makes the man suspect the rakai might not actually know the exact difference between them.. Especially since the fish he last dragged back was very much rock-like as well.

But.. at least the pup is keeping relatively quiet, compared to when he was younger. Though.. that could certainly also have something to do with the fact he's now been let off the leash, rather than the obedience training he was put through. A bark of yelp here or there is still a far cry to the sheer ruckus the pup used to make, instead being replaced by the constant pitter-patter of paws splashing through water.
So much so that the man has to step back as another passing is made, the splashing having a particularly long reach on that one. The fish are likely to get him semi-soaked as is, he certainly won't need assistance from the pup on that front (Nor would be prefer to have soaked clothes all the way back to the tower. Ignoring the fact it's just not classy to, there's other concerns for comfort as well).

In terms of comforts, there is other things that had to be traded in discovering their new little location. For one, there are no large boulders to use as seating or overview of the river, though the overview part hardly seems relevant - The river is so low in tide, it's more a trickle compared to its previous size. Most of what's swimming through it could be spotted standing, if the glare of the water or bottom murk wasn't hiding it.
Then again, the pup running full swing through the shoreline certainly stirs some silt and sand, enough so to create a persistent enough film as it's slowly washed away. Perhaps that very same over-enthusiasm could explain the lulls in their catches, seeing as most fish are more likely to flee from the waves and sounds, than attracted to them. The pup might be able to catch a fish well enough once he locates one, but there's little telling how many catches are lost in the process.

Well.. in truth it's not like they're in any particular hurry. So long as the weather continues to hold, they could easily have a few more hours left to give things a go. Erratic as it is, the pup's fishing method could yield unexpected results. After all, one can't ever truly know if they don't try.
So the man doesn't stop the pup from dashing through the shallows, but it does spring to mind another idea. He reels in the line for a moment and returns to the tool box. The yellow lure is angled a little higher up the line, while a new hook is added at the very end of it. With the length of it, both hooks would be submerged a distance from one another regardless, but with two traps set, perhaps the chance to snag something along the way is that more likely.
Not exactly conventional fishing, but then, what's life without a bit of experimentation?

Even with two lures in the fish don't appear to be any more or less peckish than before. A time passes, then some more, while the pup continues to make his own rounds along the shore line, though in far less of a haste as before, and nary a sign of a bite. A suspicion grows in the man that perhaps the lures themselves had already been snatched without him feeling so much as a light tug, so he begins to reel in the line.
But it catches, shortly after. Not the kind of catch where something at the end of it is fighting, but rather a far more solid, unrelenting catch, like it is stuck to something very stationary. The brow briefly rises, but he ends up continuing to reel in the line as he starts walking towards and into the water, to see where the line's snagged itself this time.
