She moved away from him after he looked rested. He wagged his tail, but remained lying down. She moved about a field’s length away from him. The small puppy would really have to work if he wanted to prove that he knew this trick. She used her fingers to project her whistle, making sure to give an elongated noise. Dream stood up and searched for where the noise had come from. When he saw where Fanged was, he moved to meet her. There was no hesitation as he raced over, his body wiggling with excitement as he got close. She leaned down and held her arms outstretched, laughing as he moved into her embrace.
“Good boy, Dream! You’ve done such a good job!”
Dream wagged his tail happily, nudging her hands until she began to stroke his fur. Fanged was glad that he had picked up on the trick with the minimal use of food. Now they could move onto something a little more complicated.

Teaching Dream to stay would be a bit trickier. She would need to ensure that he stayed put, which would be difficult for the overenthusiastic puppy. She made sure he was watching her before she continued.
“Dream, stay!” She called his name to grab his attention and then she gave the new command word.
Fanged began to take a few steps away from Dream. The Houluh puppy moved to follow her, eager to stick close to his owner.
“No!” Fanged said firmly.
Dream stopped in his tracks, not quite understanding what he was doing wrong, but obeying the no command all the same. He sulked for a moment, keeping still for a while longer. After a few moments of waiting, Fanged praised the puppy.
“Good work. Now you’ll just need to do that for longer next time!” she said enthusiastically.
She took the time to stroke Dream, running her fingers through his fur as he leaned into her touch.

He was pleased with the attention, but soon Fanged drew back once she was ready for them to return to work. When Dream was looking at her, she gave him the command word again.
“Stay!” she told him.
She then began to move away from him, keeping a careful eye on Dream as she walked. This time, the puppy hesitated for a moment before he moved to follow her.
“No, Dream. Stay!” She told him firmly.
Dream stopped in place, looking confused as he was told no once again. He didn’t quite know why he was being told no, but he obeyed nonetheless. After remaining in place for a short while, Fanged rewarded him with a treat. Dream accepted the treat happily, his tail wagging as he ate it.
“Good boy! You’re starting to understand!”
She allowed Dream to take a short break after he had eaten the treat. She didn’t want him to lose focus.

Dream became distracted with the strange scent of other creatures. If Fanged listened closely enough, she could hear others training their pets in the distance. The park had more traffic then she would have liked, but the amount of people also allowed her to stay hidden in plain sight.
“Alright Dream, let’s try this again.” She made sure he was looking at her before she continued. “Stay!”
She took quick steps away from him, watching him for any signs of movement. Dream remained stationary for the first bunch of steps, but when she started getting too far away, he tried to follow.
“No, Dream. Stay!” she called out to him.
Dream stopped moving, frozen in place at the command. Having already taught him no seemed to be helping exceptionally. She took a few additional steps away from him, pleased as he remained still.
“Good boy, Dream! You did that last bit perfectly!”

She moved close to Dream, giving the puppy a belly rub as he rolled over onto his back. He kicked his legs out happily as Fanged pet him. She stopped after deeming him sufficiently petted. She then turned to face the Houluh, testing his knowledge of the trick further.
“Dream, stay!” she told him.
The puppy stood still, watching Fanged intently as she walked away. He had to focus really hard to keep from fidgeting, but so far Dream was successful. She continued walking away, proud when Dream remained still.
“Good boy, you’ve done fantastic!” She praised him, releasing him from the command. This time when she approached him, she gave him a treat.
Dream accepted the treat happily, pleased that he was getting rewarded for the training. Fanged decided that she would test out the trick an additional time. If Dream could perform it properly without any prompting from her, he would understand the trick well enough.

She led Dream over to an area that was more open. From here, she would be able to create a sizable distance between the two of them. Dream rolled around in the frosty grass, happy to cover his fur in an assortment of new scents. When he was finished, Fanged gave him a command.
“Stay!” she called out to him.
She then began to test him by backing away. She moved quickly, knowing that the distance would potentially trigger him to follow her. To her delight, he remained firmly in place, keeping his eyes fixed on her as she continued to move away. She continued to test his limit, moving a great deal away from him until his small body was a small dot in the grass. When he remained still, Fanged released him from the command.
“Good job Dream! You did that exactly right!” She called out the praise, finishing with a whistle to call him back over.

The next trick Fanged had in mind she hoped would be a little easier to train. To start with, she decided she’d use food as incentive to get Dream to follow her. She crinkled the food package, catching his attention. She then made sure he was watching as she tore off a piece of meat for him. She then took a step back, making sure that Dream followed the movement of the treat. When he moved forward to join her, she took another step back.
“Follow!” she gave him the new command word.
Dream tilted his head for a moment, not recognizing the word that Fanged had uttered. When he caught sight of the treat again, he trotted forward, trying to reach it. Fanged continued moving backward, keeping a close distance to Dream, but making sure she was just out of reach from him. When he followed her for a fair distance, she stopped.

She leaned down and gave Dream the treat, figuring that he had followed her for long enough. It was a good first attempt at performing the trick. The small puppy wagged his tail enthusiastically as he ate the treat quickly. When he was finished, he looked at her expectantly for more. Fanged made a show of pulling out some more food, making sure there was proper incentive for him to follow her.
“Follow!” She gave him the command word and then started to move away.
Keeping his eyes fixed on the treat, Dream moved to follow. This time, Fanged placed more distance between them. Dream was determined, he followed her as she sidestepped around a patch of flowers. She then did a loop, slightly surprised when the puppy was still following her. After she had walked around for a while, she stopped and allowed Dream to take the treat.
“Good boy!” she praised him.

Now that she had given him two treats, Fanged knew she needed to try the trick out without food as a motivator. She was at a little bit of a loss how to teach it exactly, but she would figure it out on the fly.
“Follow!” She gave the command word again, hoping that Dream was starting to learn it.
She immediately began to back away from the puppy, encouraging him to follow her by clicking her tongue. Dream hesitated for a moment, but with her encouragement he took a step forward. Fanged keep taking steps away from him, moving a bit slower than she had before.
“Dream, follow!” she reiterated the command word.
Dream perked up at the sound of his name, continuing to follow the woman as she moved away from him. The puppy appeared to be having fun following her, treating it as if it were a game. She stopped suddenly, leaning down to scratch his ears and give him praise.

Dream accepted the praise happily, thumping his tail as Fanged gave him pets. She drew back when she was ready to get back to work. She called his name to capture his attention once more and then gave him a command.
“Follow!” She spoke clearly, trying to get him to fully learn the word.
Dream perked up at the sound of his name. When Fanged began to walk away from him, Dream followed. It was a bit hesitantly at first, but soon he gained more confidence in his actions. Fanged didn’t make any move to coerce him to continue following her, she simply walked forward. She then picked up the pace, testing to see if he’d still follow her. To her delight, Dream picked up a clumsy trot. He was still a baby, so his movements were a bit uncoordinated. She stopped to praise his determination.
“Good boy, Dream!” She leaned down to give him a quick belly rub.

Dream was happy that his owner was pleased with him. It motivated him to work even harder. Fanged decided to test the trick again, this time making it a little more difficult than she had before. Since Dream was still a puppy, it couldn’t be too hard for him. She would need to find a good balance.
“Dream, follow!” She gave him the command once more.
The puppy stood up attentively, ready to follow Fanged. Fanged turned her back to him and started walking to her left. The terrain was a bit more difficult to traverse this way. She made sure to slow down when they met their first obstacle, a patch of overgrown weeds. She stepped right through, knowing that her companion would have a little more difficulty than her moving through the plants. It took him a bit longer, but he managed to make it through.
“Great job, Dream! You did that perfectly!” She was quick to praise him.

Fanged felt they had completed that trick and she was ready to move onto the next. She quickly thought of which trick to learn next and decided that she would teach Dream to sit on command. Deciding on a plan of action, Fanged brought out the food once again. It was a system that was working for now and she would stick with it. She used the treats as incentive to work hard, but she wasn’t about to give him one for free. She made sure Dream was standing before proceeding. She then tapped down on his lower back, applying pressure to guide him into the sitting position.
“Sit!” She stated the new command word as she was guiding him into place.
Dream followed her guidance, but he only remained in the sitting position for a moment. She rewarded his effort with a quick pat on the head. He was on the right track at least.

She decided the little Houluh needed some additional incentive and she cut him off a small strip of meat. Dream was watching her eagerly, his tongue lolling out of his mouth as he anticipated eating the treat. Fanged approached him, holding the treat above Dream’s head. She moved the treat backwards, holding it just behind Dream’s head. The Houluh puppy automatically sat down when the treat was out of his line of sight.
“Sit!” Fanged said clearly.
The puppy was slightly confused by the new word, but remained sitting. His attention was hyper focused on the treat and his actions conveyed this. After a few moments of holding his position, Fanged gave Dream the treat.
“Good boy! Now I’ll need to figure out how to get you to do that all on your own.”
She waited for Dream to finish eating. Now she would try the trick without the treat again.

Fanged moved closer to Dream, waiting for him to stand up. The puppy regarded her with curiosity and stood up to greet her. She reached down and gave his fur a quick pet. She soon adjusted her position so that she was standing behind him. She pressed down on his lower back, lightly urging him to sit. She didn’t want to guide him too much, but she would use touch to encourage him into the right position.
“Sit!” she told him.
Dream sat with less hesitation than he had before. When he remained sitting, she praised him. Now, Fanged was confident that he should be ready to perform the trick all on his own. She stepped away from him and Dream was quick to follow her. She turned to face Dream, ready to test his knowledge of the trick.
“Dream, sit!” she commanded.
The little Houluh sunk down into a sitting position.

“Good boy!” Fanged was quick to praise him, pleased that he had performed the trick properly. She knew it was necessary to train him the trick further, but for now, she was pleased with what he had done. She leaned down and gave Dream an enthusiastic scratch behind the ears. He responded well to touch so she tried to redirect trick training away from treats and towards affection. After she was done, she once again distanced herself from Dream.
“Dream!” She called his name to grab his attention. “Sit!” She then followed up with the command.
Dream was faster to respond this time, sinking down onto his rear and holding the position. Fanged had him remain in the position for longer, waiting to see if he would dismiss himself from the command. When he held steady, she released him.
“Fantastic work! That’s exactly what I need you to do!” This time she rubbed his belly in response to the job well done.
