Maybe it was luck, or maybe it was the receptionist watching the subtle chaos that the two orbaru were causing. Either way, they were calling for Jewel and Renathan to go to their room, now. Jewel was more than happy to - he wanted Blush out from under everyone's feet, somewhere that he was less likely to be trodden on.
"Come on then, you," He leaned down to scoop Blush up. The orbaru made a sound of anger and squirmed. They were busy playing! "Yeah, I know, it sucks. You can play some more in a second, once we're in the room."
The fae would wait for Renathan to be ready, and then walked to the given room alongside him, ignoring Blush's furious booping.
"A cafe sounds really nice. I'll come visit, sometime. Bring the babies," He said cheerily. "As long as I can get a coffee, all is right with the world."
Thank goodness, Renathan thought, going back to the room was probably the best thing that could have happened in this moment, before the orbaru actually hurt anyone... That wouldn't be a good thing at all. Renathan finally stood up all the way instead of looking like a buffoon and moved over to collect little Amaryllis from the floor. It only took a moment or two of a chase, and Renathan was very glad that it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
He went to step back to the room, realizing that Jewel managed to catch his orbaru first, thank goodness. They were all ready to go back to the room and all. The walk back was fine by him, he didn't mind walking side by side. "Sure, that'll work out fine." He said, happily. "We make all kinds of coffee, and if there's one we don't know about, we try to figure out how to make it on request."
The room was just as plain as ever, but Jewel was growing more comfortable with it. It had its own happy energy now that he'd been a few times and gotten bundles of joy out of it. He set Blush down as soon as the door was closed - the orbaru turned to him and gave him a firm talking to, or... booping to.
"Yes, I'm sorry, bud," His apology was partnered with an exaggerated pout. "Forgive me for a head pat?"
That was suitable compensation. Everything was forgotten after he'd gotten his head rubs, and it was back to full attention on Amaryllis.
"Awesome. I'm an iced mocha kind of guy, or a frap," Jewel explained, as if it was of any real interest. He couldn't help it. He didn't have much of interest to discuss at the moment! "These two seem to be getting along pretty well so far!"
Renathan took a glance around the room, and was plenty okay with how normal it was. Some of the rooms that Renathan had been dealing with in the past had more things in it than others, but they actually preferred the ones that had less stressful environments. They like to watch the orbaru to make sure that they weren't in danger or anything- mostly since the poor creatures were a little stupid sometimes, and tended to accidentally get into situations in which they could get in trouble with or hurt from. Less stuff meant less danger, thankfully.
Renathan put Amaryllis down and then gently stroked her back down to her tail. "Aren't you a cutie? Now go play." Renathan said, voice calm and low. Amaryllis was far more interested in the male than with Renathan at this point, and turned to go play with him instead.
Renathan put his palms together, interlacing his own fingers. "Ah, you're in luck, we have stuff like that!" Lots of different kinds of ice and coffee together, in fact. "They are, I'm very glad. Some of my orbaru are a little more difficult than others."
Blush had discovered the treasure trove to end all treasure troves. A toy box! Perfectly orbaru height, as if by magic. He was already rooting through it by the time Amaryllis was ready to join him, searching for something to aid their game. Ah! A ball! Booping delightedly, he drew the red ball from the chest and bounced it against the floor, in his new friend's direction.
"Oh, really? I never thought they'd have any behavioural issues, but one of mine has been kinda... mean, lately," Jewel explained with a sheepish laugh. "She had babies and she's super protective over them. She's not aggressive, she just doesn't want Blush going near her or the little ones. I get it, but I think he's been kind of lonely."
It was probably evident in how keen Blush was to play. His tail waved back and forth, and he hopped from one foot to the other with excitement.
Oh ho, that was nice! Renathan watched as Amaryllis ran over to where the other orbaru was, immediately ready to get into any kind of mischief that was newly going to happen. She was always down for a new mess, and Renathan was at least happy that whatever it was in this instance, it was unlikely to hurt anyone else in the process. Hopefully not the male too... She wasn't dangerous, just a little brash. Some orbaru were that way, Renathan knew. She proceeded to try to climb the box, fall on her back, and then go to chase the red ball all in one sort of herky-jerky flow.
"Ah, some of my mothers have been that way too." Renathan listened and then agreed. "Poor little Blush... Hopefully after they get done and all, he'll have some kiddos of his own to contend with and won't be so lonely." He leans out, putting his knuckles against his chin and his elbows on his knees as he sat.
Amaryllis got ahold of the ball, and nearly tripped trying to push it back to the male. She was having so much fun!
Blush was too fascinated by the toy box to keep his attention focused on the ball for long. It bounced off his butt when Amaryllis pushed it to him, because he'd turned to rummage through the items again. Plush toys, blocks, more balls... how about he just tipped everything out? His insistent scrabbling at the corner had the chest toppling towards him, avoiding the pair of orbaru by inches. The resulting crash had Jewel's hands flying up to cover his ears.
"Oh, my god! Blush!" It was the firmest tone he'd ever taken with an orbaru, and it still wasn't authoritative. "What are you doing, dude?!"
Blush blinked back at him, looked at the plush CoD at his feet, and raised it to show the fae.
"Yes... that's very nice," He said, exasperated and endeared at once. "By the looks of it, I'll have to keep an eye on him with his kids."
Amaryllis watched the ball, momentarily distracted, and then watched the butt of the other Orbaru for a moment as he began to tip everything out. Suddenly, toys! Toys everywhere! She bounces from left to right excitedly, unsure of which item to pay attention to first. She ran to a plush toy, flying-tackled it, and then rolled right into a ball. Once the ball rolled away, she chased it until she tripped over a block, and then she batted the block around for a moment. She had momentarily forgotten about the little orbaru male, but only until she actually realized that the tall ones were concerned about something or another.
Renathan looked concerned, and went to get up, but realized the orbaru was fine and sat back down, shaking his head. "Excitable little critters, aren't they?" He grinned beneath the mask. He tried to keep the ones at home from tearing up the place, but it didn't help sometimes. "Most likely, he's one of the more rambunctious ones I've seen." He said, chuckling.
"I swear, I never knew he was like this! I've never seen it before," Jewel said with a laugh. "That's pretty sad, because he seems super happy right now and I guess he hasn't had the opportunity at home. I'll get him plenty of toys as well as a kid to look after."
Blush had discovered the blocks, and was enchanted by them! Amaryllis had been momentarily forgotten in favour of turning them over and putting one on top of another. There was no method to it, and he kept knocking it over with his tail every few seconds, but it was enjoyable! He booped to his friend to come check it out, holding up one of the blocks for her to see.
"So... forgive me for being straightforward here, but I've been dying to ask since we met," The fae started, though he didn't look sorry for his blunt words in the least. "Your mask. Why do you wear it?"
Renathan found it more amusing than troubling that the orbaru were being so rambunctious; at least they were having fun. Orbaru tended to make better offspring when they were having fun. That wasn't something that that the mammalian really thought about often, but it was pretty obvious here to him. "That sounds like a plan- they do so much better living with others to keep them entertained." That was what he had found, at least. "And with lots of toys."
Amaryllis proceeded to go from game to game for another moment before finally meandering her way over to where she was close enough to the male that his boop sounded really loud! She hopped excitedly and move over to see what he was doing. Playing with blocks? Oh, that looked fun! She took a bit of time to learn how to emulate him in stacking them.
Renathan couldn't help but chuckle- he got this question any time he met any new friends! "No problem! It's cultural, my people wear them as a rite of passage into adulthood." He explains. Sure, it was a little more than that, but it was already a major culture shock for most people he met at the Labs.
Blush was really enjoying spending time with Amaryllis. He didn't know how to show it properly, though... all he knew was that it was fun to play, and looking at her made him want to bounce up and down. She was pretty, and cool. Suddenly bashful, he offered her the block he was holding with a quiet boop.
"That's super cool. I wish I'd gotten a cool mask when I grew up," Jewel couldn't resist a playful pout. "I don't think I've ever met someone like you, Renathan, and I've seen a bunch of people."
His years of tavern hopping left him with plenty of experience of different races. Renathan was a unique case, though - he truly hadn't had an encounter with anyone who looked that way. It was fascinating! The City truly was a melting pot of cultures.
"Speaking of which, I don't think I've seen another fae here yet..."
Amaryllis was having a lot of fun, but she wasn't exactly good at stacking the blocks, but she was pretty good at being distracting it would seem. She glanced over at Blush, booped a bit, and covered her face with her little front limbs. She peeked out every now and again at him, her bright green eyes shining. He was super cute! When he offered the block, she reached out to take it, stilling hiding her other eye with her other paw. She wondered what he wanted to do next- she was okay with anything as long as it was with him!
"We are actually expected to make them ourselves." He added. Renathan smiled beneath the mask, and chuckled a bit. "I come from another continent- beyond the seas. I came to the Labs across the sands." He said, trying to give some sense of direction to where this continent was. There were not any fae where he had come from, but he'd been in the Labs city for... Two years now, perhaps? So the newness had worn off really.
"Admittedly, I haven't met any fae other than the one that works at the Hunter's Lodge." He said, tapping the underside of his chin as he thought. "I see one or two, every once in a while, in the crowds, but certainly not many."
Blush was as delighted that Amaryllis accepted his offering as a person would've been having given their partner a bouquet. Yes! She liked him too! They could share, and be friendly, and he felt very good about her. Still shy, but growing in confidence, he reached out to take her paw in his. Let's hold hands. It would be very nice!
"Woah... must've been a long journey," Jewel mused. "And the craftsmanship on that mask! You must be pretty great at what you do, Renathan. I've never seen anything like it before."
Ah, yes. Odoshi. She had been quite impatient with his antics when he had sought to solve her Vakrah candy problem; they weren't exactly bosom buddies, despite being of the same species. It was a shame, not to have more of his kind around, but it was also fun to meet different races.
"Give me a lesson one day, won't you? I'd love to learn about jewelry."
Amaryllis took the block and waggled her tail excited. Aww, he was so cute! She wanted to hop around, but she couldn't really do that holding a block. However, when he took her paw in his, she wasn't sure what to do she was so shy all of a sudden. She brought the block to her chest with her other hand, and then cuddled close, heart hammering. She wasn't sure what this meant, but she liked it!
The mammalian nodded, his tail tips twitching a little as he remembered some of the less exciting aspects of the journey. "Yes- the desert is pretty awful. Very dry! I grew up in a city on a marsh, so it was quite the shock." It had been almost too much to do, and by the time he'd made it to the Labs City he'd been super fatigued and very underweight. And he had traveled with a caravan! "Thank you." He said. "Lots of hard work and dedication."
Renathan tried not to be around Odoshi too much, but it was nice to be able to get certain creatures more easily... Even if her kirin galabex was terrifying. He was pretty sure they weren't meant to be that... vicious looking.
"Certainly! We may have to wait until the gemstone workshop opens back up though..." Speaking of that- the place had been closed a long time. "It's easier to train folks there, with lots of good equipment."
Jewel couldn't imagine. He had avoided the sands like the plague, aware of how dangerous they could be to an unprepared traveller - he'd followed the roads, through hills and plains, along the coast but never far enough to meet the arid barrens. It was hard enough to keep himself healthy and happy in civilisation, nevermind out in the wild.
"Yes, of course! I did hear you had a workshop in the City," He said with a nod. "There's all sorts of things here that I didn't expect. I'm sure I'll find myself something to do soon enough... it's not like we're short of choices."
Blush booped gently and cuddled close to Amaryllis. His eyes were wide and sparkling, and his little heart was thudding in his chest. This was the best thing that he'd ever experienced! In a moment, his tail orb lit up and flashed, a definitive display of his affection!
"Woah! Was that...?" The fae gestured to them. "Did they...?"
Riku: From what I loosely understand about the fish is that it isn't one-use, whereas the berry is. I feel like there wouldn't be any consequence of 'using' the fish...which I'd think just ooc wouldn't be counted for whatever rolls or whatever it is that it uses

Twilight-Claw: Thanks for that piece of info Ren! <3 | But would it be allowed for the flavor of the rp if the berry wasn't filling enough for the Lotine?
Jun 1, 2020 6:09:21 GMT -6
Renathan: There is no need to double up on a fish and a magical berry (doesn't change the effect of the berry at all) in a lotine breeding.
Jun 1, 2020 6:02:21 GMT -6
Twilight-Claw: Does anyone know if it is possible to combine both a magical berry and a fish in a Lotine breeding? Or is you can only choose one of them? (right now writing a Lotine breeding)

Riku: I got three pet levels and 15c out of it. <3 And all the necessary posts for my job salary form.

Riku: In mine my crossbreed used foxfire to burn it - but then it used incendiary illusion, which was extra scary because my cross is a plant pet with thick fur. It used the distraction to escape. I’m proud of it, and it’s okay that I won’t finish this month.

Renathan: *But of course, the RNG was not having that. / In Morgan's story, the Nyssa was a real thing, so I wanted to have two different situations for the variety.
May 31, 2020 18:15:27 GMT -6
Renathan: Yeah, the 'finished the story but the RNGods are being a butt' thing is a rather unfortunate situation to be in. I had already decided that in Ren's story, the elderly woman had lied about the nyssa and just wanted someone to talk to*
May 31, 2020 18:14:49 GMT -6
Riku: That makes sense. I've considered that before. -nod- I hope your non-hxr life is going smoothly.

Haix: Just quitting the job. Don't believe I'll be making the ten posts required per month any time soon. XD
May 31, 2020 16:34:01 GMT -6
Riku: Note to haix, I believe you can post the new application form at the same time as the quitting form. Unless you are simply taking an overall break from the job system.

Fiera Ferella: even AT the gardens yet. XD It sucks when you've finished writing your story and haven't gotten a success, because then its like "well... now what?" XD
May 31, 2020 15:51:47 GMT -6
Fiera Ferella: ive found that when there's a quest that might take longer like this, its a good idea to try and space out the story beats to try and roll a success before i get to the meat of the story. XD Like, by the time i was 5 posts in my character wasn't
