Jack walked through the city for a little while, Tok on her shoulder as she strode along, wandering far and wide, not really knowing where she wanted to go, but willing to get there as soon as she could. Sure she could be training, raising her Houluh, or something like that, but at the moment, there wasn’t much she was going to do about things. Sighing a little, she shook her head as she waited there with Tok, trying to decide where to go and what to do. There were so many things she could and should be doing, but… really wasn’t going to get into it just yet. Jack chuckled a little, so much for her working and all that, but she was just waiting another month or so before she could make another node, and she had a couple of buddies who would make them for her as well if she got the materials for them. Whatever, as long as she had herself, her magic, and her animals, she would be fine she figured with a slight smile. Maybe she should go check the quest board, even though it had been a few months since she had done a quest for them. Hopefully it would be easy enough. [Tok: 9 1/5]

There wasn’t much for her to do today it seemed, and it was nice out, the first really nice day of the year it seemed, so checking out the board seemed good enough to her. She adjusted Tok on her shoulder, she was used to the little halfbreed getting what he wanted at this point, and then strode off toward the board, wondering what the issue was this time. Sure, she should have done stuff the last couple of months, but that wasn’t going to happen with how busy she had been. Things had slumped for a little while, could anyone really blame her? Jack shook her head a little and sighed again, still wondering what she was going to have to do this month. It was one thing to run errands for people, and it was another for the manual labor some of the quests called for, not like she minded either one, honestly. Still though, it got a little annoying doing things for people just because they didn’t want to. Who said she wanted to either? Whatever, it didn’t matter in the long run, and the woman smiled a little as she rounded the corner and saw the quest board on the side of the street, right next to the questing shop that you could use those points for.

There were a few requests up there that she could see, it seemed to be busier in the nicer months than in the winter months to be sure. Jack chewed on her lip and patted Tok on his head as he chittered to her before giving him a strawberry slice. She really needed to get him trained up soon, or else he wouldn’t do her any good as a familiar. Jamming her hands into her pockets, she perused the board for a moment before selecting one. Planting trees huh? She supposed she could do that, they were supplying everything she needed, she just needed to put in the work. Whatever, seemed easy enough for her to do, and she smiled a little as she thought of it. Maybe she could work on something else while she did so, she didn’t really know. Jack chewed on her lip and started off toward the area it was sending her to, wondering who she was going to be working for. Her hands in her pockets again, Tok held onto her hair with his claws and rode on her shoulder some more, chattering the whole way about the indecencies of whatever was going on she was sure.

It wasn’t that she ignored Tok, at least not on purpose, but he was always chattering about something and so he was easy to tune out a little as she moved. That was the issue with having a wordy familiar, she supposed, and she chuckled a little as she tried to figure out what to do at the moment. She really needed to train him, but she wasn’t sure what to train him at the moment. It wasn’t as though she had come up with a list yet or anything, which she needed to fix. Maybe she could work with him a little bit soon as the weather cleared up. He was pretty cute, but he could pack a tiny punch at the same time, it wouldn’t hurt to get him to learn how to defend himself, now would it? Smiling to herself, she wondered if she should do a breeding after she finished up with this planting and took a shower. It wouldn’t hurt, and she figured maybe she would eventually get a Kair when all was said and done. It would really be nice to have one from Maestro, her new Kairfuryoo she had gotten from the Labs, so maybe she should do things.

At least it should go well, she was used to gardening and all that. Smiling to herself, she wondered what to do for awhile, but figure it wasn’t a big deal if she didn’t get it all done. Giving a little yawn, she shrugged her shoulders and caught Tok as he toppled off, still a little leery of using his wings. Of course he hadn’t had anyone show him what to do with his wings, which was an issue she wanted to fix at some point. Still unsure of what was going to happen, she finally reached the area for the trees and saw all the saplings, dirt piles, mulch, and a couple of shovels sitting there, just waiting for someone to plant them. Well then, she figured she might as well get to work. Setting Tok on the ground, she rolled up her sleeves and grabbed a shovel and a map of where they wanted all of the trees and started digging. Unfortunately for her, trees needed to be planted somewhat deep, so she was going to be all kinds of sore the next day, but it was worth it if they got some new trees in the Labs, of course.

Some people only came to plant a couple of trees and then leave, and some walked past with several little saplings again and again...

Jack shrugged and got Tok to hold on a little better to her hair before she picked up a shovel and walked over to where the first tree needed to go. Some other people were planting as well, so she picked a spot further away from them. Maybe it would have been better to bring Goran and have him dig, but that wasn't part of it at the moment, she figured. Jack pushed her hair back then settled her hat on top of her head a little more firmly before starting to dig. Tok gave her guidelines from time to time, though she didn't understand what he said of course. It was strange that magical items didn't work on familiars, she wondered why that was, because it would help if he had a Ribbon at some point. At the same time, she didn't know if she wanted to know what he had to say half of the time a this point. As she dug in the ground she chuckled a little and wondered what kind of trees they were planting. Probably simple ones like oak or something, that seemed to be the need around here at least. Hopefully she would figure it out soon enough.

Things would be alright once all the trees were planted, but it would probably take a day or two in order to get it done if everyone worked at it. It looked like they were planting a small forest in the Labs, which was great for things, honestly, but it also meant they could cut them down after awhile of them growing. Jack sighed a little, maybe that's what they were doing, and this was an exercise of futility. Still though, with Tok egging her on, she dug and dug, wondering what she was going to do about things after awhile. Hopefully the trees would flourish, and it looked like they were spacing them out enough to where nothing bad was going to happen. It would be easier for trees to move around diseases if they were too close and all that, something she had to worry about as well, and she glanced at the map again, wondering if that would be the case here. It didn't appear to be the case, however, and she hoped that everything would be fine in the long run. It wasn't like she couldn't come visit it again and again if she wanted to, of course, being int he Labs.

Sure, she knew about plants, she figured as she dug around in the dirt with the shovel, but that didn't mean she was an expert by any means, she thought. She just knew a few things about them to grow them and all that, she had helped her father on the plantation before leaving for the Navy, but that didn't mean she knew everything. Jack just liked plants, maybe it was because of her mother, she really didn't know. She hadn't known her mother for too long, her father had her killed when she was pretty young, but that was fine, she knew what she needed to know about her mother and she was following in her footsteps. Her magic was going to be her connection with her mother, and Tok was part of how that was happening. She smiled a little at the familiar and wondered what was going to happen if they disconnected, but that wasn't going to happen in any way, shape, or form. Smiling a little, she wondered what to do at the moment and that was fine as well, she figured digging was the best thing she could do at the moment, but there wasn't much else to do now was there?

Tok wondered what she was thinking about, but he couldn't read her mind or anything, which was a bummer in some ways. He chirped at her and patted her on the cheek as she dug around in the ground with the shovel, and the woman smiled and patted him on his little head before digging some more. All he knew was that things weren't working out for her too well in her head, and she was trying to avoid the real issue at the moment. He knew she was struggling a little at the moment, but he didn't know why she was struggling, and it was rough at the moment. Tok sighed a little and leaned up against her and watched as she dug a little further into the ground, hoping she would get the hole big enough for one of the saplings soon enough, and he tilted his head a bit to get a better look at the hole. It wasn't as though he could really help her with much at this point, but that wasn't the point, he expected. No familiar was big enough to be useful in things like this, but at least he could help her with her magic, right?

It didn't matter what she was doing if she didn't get this hole dug in time to get a sapling planted, so she redoubled her efforts in order to get this done and she figured things would be fine. She finished digging the hole and went over to where the saplings were and smiled a little, selecting one of them that didn't look like the roots were rotting and wondered if any of them were. A frown crossed her face and she exchanged looks with Tok for a moment before she wandered through all of the saplings, hoping that none of them had rotting roots, that would make it impossible to plant them. She crawled around with Tok on her shoulder some more as she tried to figure out where she was going and what she was doing, hopefully someone would work out that some were bad, right? Shaking her head, she didn't know, but at least someone had to look it over, she thought with a little smile on her face as she thought about tit. What was she going to do anyway? If she found one with bad roots she would have to tell someone, but who to tell, anyway?

Somewhere nearby, someone catches sight of something troubling with one of their saplings. It has a strange knot on the root that looks suspiciously like root boll! The individual runs to the registration desk holding it, and appears to get into an argument with the person there about whether or not it is a root boll. Maybe it's just a nodule?

Jack frowned a little when she saw them run over and start to argue. She wouldn't argue, just put it out there and call it good. Tok hopped off of her shoulder and onto the sapling she picked up and carried over to the hole before putting it into the hole and starting to cover the roots with dirt again. He seemed happy to be in the trees, and she told herself she needed to train him before too long, it wouldn't do to have an untrained familiar after all. Jack frowned, wondering what she would do if something happened to him in the meantime. It was a horrible thing to think, but that was that, she supposed. The woman sighed a little and shook her head, wondering what she could do about anything at this point, but that wasn't what she was supposed to do at this point, now was it? She and Tok were here to plant some trees, and that was what needed to happen, nothing about what she would do if some things had happened. Without a doubt, she wondered what was going to happen with the trees if they were diseased already, and wondered if she should use some of her magic.

Jack shook her head a little and sighed as she packed the dirt around the sapling's roots and then plucked Tok from the tree branches and onto her shoulder. It wasn't like she could do much of anything but what she was trying to do right now, so she just shrugged a little and shook her head as time went on. She moved to another spot, the next spot on the map for now and figured it wasn't a bad thing to get these trees planted soon, it looked like it wanted to rain, which was a little odd at this point. Shrugging to herself, she decided to hurry it up a bit and started to dig with a little more fervor, wondering if she needed to come back with Goran and all that. As she dug, Tok still on her shoulder, she chewed on her lip a little and hoped that things would work out in the long run with this forest they were planting. Hopefully no one would cut them down until they were long grown, but there wasn't a guarantee of that at all at this point. Jack shook her head, it was a shame, but at least they were trying to do right.

Tok wasn't too sure about what was going to happen with the woman at this point, but he shrugged a little as time went on and she dug some more. It was going to be great she knew, and it was fine at the same time. She just didn't know what was going to happen when it was all done, but that was fine. Tok watched her and then hopped down to the ground to help dig a little, even though he wasn't the best at it at the moment. At least he was trying and not just being an ass on her shoulder, she figured with a little laugh as some thunder clapped in the distance. Everyone else scurried away from the area, worried about things at this point, but she sighed a little, she didn't know what the big deal was, thunder and rain couldn't hurt you, she might just get a little cold or something considering it was a little chilly out still since it was technically still winter. It was almost spring though, tomorrow would be spring and hopefully things would be better out in the long run. Well, at least some more trees would get planted while she was there.
