Millicent put her hands out straight, holding her fingers out and wiggling them. "Alright, when you m-make fists, I need you to do this." Morgan showed their own hands to Millicent and then slowly made fists, so that she could see. Morgan was sure to put their thumbs in the correct place. "See how I hold my thumbs?" Morgan asked. Millicent nodded. "If you don't keep your th-thumbs like this, you'll break them." Morgan explained. "Never put them inside of your fists. E-ever." Many a person had made that mistake before.
Millicent looked from Morgan's hands to her own hands, and then made her fists exactly like Morgan had theirs. Then Morgan smiled at her, and got into stance again, putting their fists up in front of their face. "Hold your hands lu-like this, and keep your body sideways." The bespectacled human said.

Millicent struggled to get into stance at first, holding herself sideways just didn't feel natural, but soon she was standing like a charm. "Good, good, keep your hands up, in front of your face. K-keep your eyes on the enemy's eyes. You'll be able to watch the whole stance from there." And catch movement quicker, Morgan thought. Millicent was soon peering over her fists, held tight and correct. "You don't have to hold them that tight." Morgan said, showing Millicent their fists closely.
Millicent made the change. "Keep loose, really loose, in your stance. You have to be able to move forward, and move backward easy. When you punch, ya-you don't flail out your arm." Morgan showed her, nice and slowly, the twisting body movement that allowed one to throw a punch much more effectively. "Pu-put your whole body into it, and don't forget to imagine, in your head, that you're punching through the enemy. Focus past their body, not at t-the point of the strike."

It was a lot of information, a lot of it at once. Millicent looked anxious, trying to take it in all at once. Morgan waited, quietly, watching. "Do you want to take a punch, aim it a-at my palm, and just try." Morgan said. It would be easier to explain if she tried, but also, Morgan had waited because they didn't want to give Millicent any chances to make any bad habits. Bad habits were difficult to break and teach past, but a blank slate worked out fine.
Millicent looked nervous, and bounced a little bit. Then, she threw her right arm out, as Morgan knew she would, and hit Morgan's palm decently solidly for being that small. "See, you took your eyes off of mine, and you didn't throw past my hand." Morgan said, gently. "Try again, and this time, punch and look past me, behind me."

Millicent looked anxious still, and reached out to 'pop' Morgan's palm again, doing that little motion with the shoulder that meant that she had taken her power out of her own punch. Millicent knew that she hadn't quite done it though, Morgan could see it in her eyes. The human nodded. "You've got this, keep tryin'." Morgan said, murmuring. "Come on, try it again." Morgan coaxed, knowing that she would get frustrated enough to really throw into it eventually. Millicent got that determined look about her that Morgan caught her doing whenever she was planning on doing something she wasn't supposed to, or something she really wanted to be able to do. This time, her pupils focused past Morgan's body, and even just that put enough power behind the punch that it stung Morgan's hand.
Morgan waggled they hand about in mock pain, and hissed. "That s-st-stung, good job!"

The bit of a feign was a great confidence booster for Millicent. It was now that they began working on technique. After about thirty minutes, they left for the day, Morgan knowing that doing all of this all at once wasn't going to help. Millicent would have to pick all of this up as habit. The next day they returned after breakfast again, and Morgan showed her some stretches to get her more limber. "Eventually I'll teach you the thing that my pops taught me first. But I felt more confident- t-teaching you to punch first." Morgan admitted. The harachiu listened. Morgan gave her the same speech from the day before, hoping that she was commit it to memory a little at a time.
After that, they began practicing again, with Millicent punching Morgan's palms as they held them up. Morgan didn't want to train her with gloves; she would not always have gloves in the real world.

They worked like this for thirty minutes each day, after breakfast. Each day Millicent grew in confidence, and took to her stances much more easily. She was understanding the drill of it. It was helping Morgan out too, their muscles hurt after the first few days. They'd let theirself get out of shape again, but soon enough they felt much more confident theirself and their muscles stopped hurting as bad as well. Millicent was toning up too, in her arms, and that was good, Morgan knew. She needed to be healthy as well- it was not uncommon for people's harachiu to be dangerously out of shape and hurt from inability to go out and do things.
The human finally got Millicent's punching about where they wanted it. "Alright, so let's work on the word for it. How about 'punch'?" Morgan asked. Millicent nodded. The next day, Morgan got her a small punching bag, and they worked on her punching to the 'cue' word 'Punch'. After a week, Morgan decided they needed to move on to the next self defense piece.

It was a new day, and the pair were at the park after they ate breakfast. Millicent was raring to go, already doing her stretches. "Alright Millicent, we'll keep working on your punches. I'll show you a few different 'uns. A-a-and then we need to work on your kicks." Morgan said. Now, Morgan was not one of those people that thought that kicks were useful in literally any real fight, but they could be used in situations where a punch wouldn't work, and in Millicent's case the extra reach could really help her out. Millicent regarded Morgan with sleepy curiosity, even though she was super excited.
"Kicking?" Millicent finally said, standing up and loosening out with a shake and a little dance. Morgan nodded. "Let's get into stance, and I'll show you a few different ones in action." Morgan replied. Millicent slid into stance quite easily.

Morgan nearly slid into southpaw theirself, but managed to get theirself properly into the stance that would help Millicent be able to better understand what she needed to do to be able to perform kicks from all angles. Millicent watched with curiosity as Morgan (very rustily) fired off a side kick from either side, switching in and out of position as they did, and then performed a single (practically useless) rainbow kick before turning back to fire a kick off straight behind them. They could definitely tell they would be sore again, today. It had been so long since they had to do this... Millicent noticed, and giggled.
"If ya always keep up with your e-exercises, you'll never get rusty." Morgan told her. Then they stretched again and got back into form. "The one's you'll be using the most, h-hopefully not at all in real fights, are g-gonna be your side kick, and your back kick. Then we'll show you a 'round, for kicking the legs of an enemy." The round would probably be the best one for her.

Millicent both looked excited, and very nervous. She hadn't had to kick before, and perhaps it was a little redundant when having worked on punching with her for so long. However, kicking would be necessary. Morgan wanted her to have a full repertoire in case she needed it. "Alright, you'll be staying in stance- remember, don't flail y-your leg out." Morgan said, showing a side kick again, slower. "Use your body to twist to put power into it. Bend your knee out and push." Millicent watched carefully, and then tried, herself. The kick was aimless, and she used her left leg as her ground. Her balance, however, was what Morgan had been the most worried about, but it seemed like Millicent had naturally good balance.
Morgan nodded to her. "Yeah, like that, learn the physical movement first, and then we-we'll work on putting power behind it." They said.

That was how it began. Each day Morgan and Millicent went out for breakfast, and then returned to the park to do stretches, work on the punching to make sure that Millicent got it down pat, and then worked on kicking. The first few days they focused only on the side-kick, teaching her the movement the first few days before actually working in her kicking a target (Morgan brought a suitably small target for her to practice on). It was tough work, with the harachiu having more trouble learning how to kick with speed and still have power behind it while keeping balance. Soon, she learn to 'swing through' with the kick, keeping her balance and stance. As soon as that was taught, Morgan began working with her on the other kicks.
It was tough work, but rewarding. The pair were at least enjoying spending more time together than they had been.

Millicent worked through the side kick, and then into the back kick. Morgan wanted her to be able to defend herself- even though she probably would get hurt by danger anyway, simply for peace of mind. Morgan knew that after Millicent managed to learn her kicks, she would be working on the most important thing of all; knowing how and when to run away. It was the biggest and most important part of this. There was no need to trade blows with something as big as Waar, in example.
"In order to do a good kick behind you, you will n-need to always aim a little low. You want to catch a knee." Morgan said, giving an example of moving out of position to perform the kick, leaning forward. "Always look behind you as you do so. You want t-that leg to land in front, like this-" The human switched to south paw stance on the other side. "So that you can catch them with a punch." At this, Morgan showed Millicent how the whole thing would look.

Millicent began practicing as soon as Morgan gave her the go-ahead after showing her how to do it. She worked the entire couple of hours that they were out at the park, and was still quite shakey on it. As they walked through the park on the way home, Morgan was sure to give her pointers, as many pointers as possible. They next morning after breakfast they were working at it again. "No- keep your toes pointed." Morgan said. Millicent looked perplexed. "When you do a side k-kick, you have to kick out with your heel. When you are doing a back one, the same. But working o-on a round, you'll be striking with the flat of the top of your foot." Morgan gave a few examples of how to do it from different positions.
Millicent was doing better and better each day, taking Morgan's suggestions to heart.

After several days of working at it, Morgan was confident enough to give her a target to strike at with her round. Her back kick was passable and her side kick was excellent. The round still needed work. Millicent was taking to the round a lot more quickly than she had taken to the back kick, that was for sure. Each morning they would go out to get breakfast, and then work on her punches and kicks. She continued to do incredibly well, but it was slow going. Morgan didn't expect it to be fast, so it was not an issue. The harachiu was still so small, Morgan knew that she would need the defensive training much more than this first bit of offensive training. Hopefully they would be able to move on to it so.
Morgan and Millicent worked on it day in and day out, Millicent growing in both skill and confidence the whole time.

The pair continued for another couple of weeks. Morgan taught Millicent to be able to wrap her hands and ankles during that time period, as her power finally got to where it was causing the joints to swell slightly, and Morgan wanted to nip that in the bud before it caused severe issues. Millicent took special interest in wrapping her hands and ankles, it became a bit of a hobby for her to try to decorate them, as well. Morgan couldn't help but smile whenever she showed them something she had drawn on her wraps. Morgan was planning on getting her a nice set of wraps, soon.
Finally, after a day of hard work, Morgan realized that Millicent was more than ready. She was doing very well, and not bruising as badly anymore either. Developing the start of a thick skin for it. "Alright Millicent, now we need to put this all together, don't you t-think?"

Millicent nodded, excitedly. She was pretty bouncey today. Morgan had let her choose where they were going to eat breakfast (bad idea) and now she was practically bouncing on sugar. Probably shouldn't have let her order for herself either. Morgan got really caught up in the respecting sentient beings, and kept forgetting that Millicent was also a preteen, practically. "So, we'll just make the cue word for a kick 'kick', just like the cue w-word for a punch was 'punch'." No need to make this a big deal and come up with code words. Morgan wanted Millicent to take care of herself, anyway.
At this, Morgan and Millicent spent time practicing every day, Morgan calling out 'Punch' and 'Kick', alternating between the two sometimes and then sometimes having her rapid fire do one or the other and then switch all of a sudden. Millicent was doing excellently with her work.
