The next few moments made San regret having ever started this conversation. He wanted to end this now, but that would have been too abrupt; he had to extricate them more naturally. He didn't like the way this Silver was studying him, as though they were trying to figure something out. Rei was the one who had approached them, but San had overplayed his hand trying to get more information about her kind from what had seemed like a likely source.
His last question, too, had been a miscalculation. The other--- Harachiu--- were on edge now, studying him with renewed concern. Under better circumstances, he might have found some amusement in Kokori's reaction, as though she could deal with anything that posed a threat to him. But there was nothing amusing about their situation now, and he knew he had to say something to explain away what he had said.
"I-It's nothing like that, really! I just..." San held up his hands in a flustered gesture, his features caught in something that couldn't decide whether it was an awkward smile or a put-on-the-spot sort of frown. "There really aren't any Hara... Harachiu where I come from, and, um..." He glanced at Rei, who was frowning at him. He didn't expect her to play along, not when she hadn't been trained for this. Her role had always been restricted to surveillance and reconnaissance, staying out of sight while the rest of them worked. But she understood enough to give him a little nod, and San continued. "When I found Echo, she was in a... bit of a bad situation. I, um, don't know all the details, but she said this was where she came from, so..."
"I'm looking for my parents," said Rei. San looked at her, and the surprise on his face wasn't feigned, for once. "I've been gone... a long time. That's why I thought..." Rei glanced at Kokori, and then away. "I'm sorry to bother you."
