The last month's trip to the quest board had been a bit... fraught. Maybe that wasn't the right word for it, but there had been a certain amount of tension in the air between Aster and Rhys, what with the whole... tournament thing. But they'd talked it out, and a month was a long time for them both to think about things. By the time they returned to the board the following month, things were much more civil between the two of them. Which was also to say that Rhys couldn't hold that kind of negativity in himself for very long, and Aster was also inclined to move on, even if sometimes his moving on involved more of a burying everything approach. Or putting a good deal of physical distance between him and whatever it was, as it were. Thankfully, it hadn't come to either of those things, in this particular case.

It was all for the best that things had worked out in the end. Aster was privately glad for things to be back to normal, and he could sense, a little, that Rhys was too. {What will we do today?} he said, flying up to peer at the board, even though he certainly couldn't have read anything that was on there.
"Let's have a look," Aster said.
No sooner had he said that, however, than did Rhys have another interjection. {Oh, how about this one? It's got such nice looking paper.} He pointed out a request written on pale blue stationery, with little drawings of... umbrellas...? Well, not drawings exactly, but they were done up in a style that made them look like picture sketches.
Aster shrugged. It wasn't as though he had a strong preference for anything, and this one looked harmless enough, so he picked it up and had a look.

It was a pretty short request, so it didn't take him long to get the gist of it for Rhys. "Someone wants their garden cleaned up," he said. In a sense, it wasn't all that different from what they had done the previous month, when they'd been planting trees. There would probably be dirt and plants involved, at any rate. Depending on the state of the garden, there might be more of one than the other.
{Oh, is that why there's so many umbrellas? It has been raining a lot lately.} The sky overhead was still clouded over, but at least there wasn't anything falling right now. If there were, Aster would have stayed firmly inside. He had never cared for the rain or the wet, and now that he didn't actively have to be out in it, he generally chose to avoid it if the weather was showing signs of leaning in that direction.

he'd been planning on going home at the first sign of a drizzle today too, but now that they'd taken a request... Well, he'd have to hope it didn't start raining, he supposed. But then, it wasn't as if the damp would kill him either. It was just an unpleasant prospect.
"Might be," Aster said, though privately he did hope the garden was well drained. Mud wasn't exactly high on his list of things he loved either. "We can always have a look first, and see how to go from there."
{We're taking it then?} Rhys seemed happy at the prospect, so Aster gave him a nod.
"There should be an address here... Oh, it's some kind of shop," Aster said. Belatedly he realized that was what the print must have been for. Based on the name, it was a place that made parasols.
... Were those umbrellas, come to think of it?

He never did learn what the difference was between umbrellas and parasols. He had picked up a bunch of miscellaneous skills since he began living here, but this wasn't one of them. He'd used plenty of umbrellas, but his lifestyle didn't put him in the path of the word 'parasol' very often. Did a place that made one make the other, or were they mutually exclusive...?
He supposed he might find out if he went, though it wasn't exactly a pressing question for him either.
"Let's get going," Aster said to Rhys, who dutifully flew alongside him as Aster wandered into the city to hunt down the address. It was still early, so fortunately there weren't many people, or else Aster would have turned back and gone home after all. Traipsing around the city wasn't something he did often, even though not many people bothered him these days. Old habits died hard.

The garden was a quaint little thing, when one gets there. Across the street, children are playing in the wet grass. This time of year was quite nice when it came to the whether, as long as it was in-between storms.
[No success yet.]

The shop, when they came upon it, didn't look like a place Aster would ever have come to if it weren't for a job. Which wasn't to say that the shop was uninviting; in fact, it was quite the opposite. But the signage and the decor suggested that this was a place for the fashionable and the appearance-conscious, and Aster sincerely doubted they sold anything he might use himself.
Well, if they sold anything in Harachiu size, Claire might have liked one, he supposed. Beyond that, though... Rhys seemed interested, but more in the general sense of someone seeing something novel that they hadn't experienced before than the earnest interest of a potential customer.
Still, they weren't here to shop. They were here to clean up a garden. "I hope they've got tools," Aster mused, walking around to the back. "I could bring back my own, but that would take up more time."

He wasn't too concerned about the prospect, since most gardeners did have their own tools, but the job posting had been a bit sparse on details, so he wouldn't have been entirely surprised either if it was one of those 'provide your own' situations. As they rounded a corner to the garden area proper, however, he was gratified to see a small shed on the premises. That promised good, or at least useful, things.
{Are we really allowed to just go in?} said Rhys, peering into the shed from behind Aster's legs as Aster wrenched open the door.
"They put up the job posting and we took it," Aster said. "It's not like we're going to steal anything."
{But there's nothing stopping us, not really,} Rhys pointed out.
Aster paused for a moment, giving the Felusine a funny look. He wasn't wrong, but that wasn't the sort of thing he'd expected Rhys to think about.

Rhys was generally such a... well, Aster couldn't exactly call him harmless or unambitious, in light of recent events, could he? Maybe he really had been underestimating the Felusine, much more than he had even realized. "Hmm," Aster said. "You never know. There might be hidden security measures of some sort. Magic, cameras, that sort of thing. And I'm guessing whoever runs the quest board isn't going to let us off lightly if we try anything funny, since they'd need a good reputation to keep things running smoothly, both on the employer and the job-seeking side." All of this was just conjecture, of course, and maybe a sign that he had grown complacent too. But now that there was no good or pressing reason for him to steal things, Aster was inclined to save himself the trouble and just operate within the confines of the law. No sense in looking for trouble.

{Oh, really?} said Rhys, looking around, probably trying to find a sign of any of the security measures Aster had talked about. It was kind of a relief to see, actually; it was such a show of naivete that it offset the surprise that his question had caused.
Maybe it wouldn't have been such a strange thing to wonder about. But Aster still would have expected it more from, say, Damien's quarter than Rhys's.
Aster found a pair of gloves that fit alright, so he put them on and grabbed a bag. The first order of business would be to pick up stray branches and other debris that had fallen in the wake of a recent storm. Everything else could be dealt with after that, but doing this first would make it all easier, and it was a good way to warm up, get into the right mindset for garden work.

At least, that was what Aster thought, anyway. He wasn't much of a gardener himself, though apparently Aubrey had made quite a hobby of it since he had gone off on his own way. Aster had even sampled a little of the produce from his gardens, though if he was being honest, he wasn't sure how it tasted different from anything else.
He'd been picking up loose debris for a minute or two when Rhys noticed what he was doing, and wandered over to help. {Are you just picking up sticks?} Rhys said. {I can do it too.}
Aster stood back, curious despite himself. Rhys had telekinetic powers from an injection, and for a moment Aster thought maybe... But no, it seemed like Rhys intended to pick up the sticks with his mouth and bring them over that way. Well, it was true that Aster hadn't taught him how to use that telekinesis yet.
