Interested in the fish, Bubbles immediately shoved her nose into the bucket, as if she could sniff underwater. For her literal nosiness, the fish gave her a firm nip on the snout and she leapt back, yelping. "Yeah, that's what you get for bothering it, Bubbles!" Fiera scolded gently. The houluh flopped back on the ground next to the bucket, indignant. Fiera chuckled at her antics, and then approached the shoreline again. When she walked over there with the pole to reel in the shark thing, she could have sworn she saw something else in the water. Even if it was nothing, it was worth checking out, right? As she reached the lapping waves, Fiera peered into the water, looking for whatever flash of color she had spotted among the rocks before. Sure enough, she saw a flash of purple just offshore from where she was standing. She had to check that out.

First things first though, she wanted to reset her fishing pole. Walking back to her chair, Fiera grabbed the pole and checked the lure. The rubbery bait was still intact, even if it had a few new dents in it from the shark thing. She nodded and then raised the pole behind her head. With a flick of her wrist, she let it loose. The line flew over the water and landed closer to the middle this time. Fiera smiled slightly- that was a way better cast than before! "Looks like I'm getting better at this, eh Bubbles?" She said, but the houluh huffed again in response. It looked like she was still grumpy. Fiera merely shrugged and tucked the pole into the hole between the chair seat and armrest again, letting it sit at an angle where she could notice if something was pulling on it without it going flying.

Then she went back to her bag and began digging through it, determined to find something that she could use to help her fish out that... whatever it was. After a few moments of searching, she found it- her net. She bought this alongside the fishing pole, but hadn't had the opportunity to use it yet. Well, if anything would work, it would probably be this. She glanced over at her pole as she walked back down to the shoreline- no bites on it yet. As she approached the water, Fiera noticed that the purple thing hadn't moved. Perhaps it wasn't a living thing after all- just a piece of garbage. Ah well- even if it was garbage, it was probably worth getting out of the water. She'd be doing a public service, keeping the waterways clean and whatnot. Also, it gave her something to do while she waited for another fish to bite.

Even with her pants rolled up however, Fiera couldn't get too far into the water without getting her clothes wet. She sighed, and moved her net as far out as it would go with where she was positioned. Luckily, she was just barely able to touch the purple thing, it's form distorted by the water flowing above it. She was able to knock it toward her a bit before she lost grip with the net, and was able to scoop it up entirely with a second try. Fiera sighed with relief as she was able to get it into the net properly, feeling its weight in the bottom. Whatever it was, it certainly wasn't a piece of paper or an empty can- it had weight to it. A piece of painted metal? She wouldn't be able to tell for sure what it was until she could pull it in properly to check.

With another heave-ho, Fiera lifted the net out of the water and pulled it towards her. Oh! It looked like it wasn't a piece of garbage after all. It wasn't even a rock, which would have been her second guess. She couldn't really call it a fish, but... it was definitely alive. It stared up at her with beady, angry eyes. She couldn't really blame it for being upset- she did just drag it out of its living room, so to speak. It was covered in brightly colored spines like a sea urchin, jutting out of its bright purple flesh. Despite its angry appearance, it was actually quite pretty. It waved its spines around, trying to crawl away, but no matter what it did it just kept getting caught on the net. Fiera nodded- that was good. It meant that this one wasn't going to get away from her before she could put it in the bucket.

Bubbles looked up and sniffed the air as Fiera approached the bucket. "You keeping watch for me, baby?" She said sweetly, and Bubbles' tail thumped against the ground as she approached. "Well, if you didn't like having your nose bitten, I'd stay even further away from this one, Bubbles. It's sharp." She said, holding it up so the houluh could see. She leaned away from the spiny creature, apparently having learned her lesson. Fiera nodded, and upended the net over the bucket. It took some pulling of the threads of the net and a lot of shaking to get it dislodged, but eventually the spiny creature dropped into the bucket, sinking to the bottom. The shark swam toward the surface for a moment, alarmed, but soon settled down to rest again. It would appear they got along alright, even if neither were particularly friendly creatures. Fiera nodded, satisfied so far- this fishing trip was going well!

With that, Fiera stood up and looked around. Her pole was still, well, still. The lure sat in the water, unbothered by anything but the current. Fiera didn't feel like taking a nap again (as she had the feeling she'd miss out on more fish than she'd catch that way), so she figured it would be worthwhile to go check out the water again. Maybe she'd see something else that she could scoop up. She stepped gently into the stream, feeling the pebbles shift under her water shoes. She was careful to watch her step so she wouldn't slip, but it was still a little awkward walking around on this stuff. She wondered briefly how the animals that lived here dealt with it before she remembered that they didn't generally have legs. That usually helped. She poked around with her net some, lifting up larger rocks, but didn't see much of interest.

Fiera had come to the river to spend time with… a rather interesting creature. It wasn’t hers- instead it belonged to Ridelys, an interesting individual who WANTED to join the tournament, but just hadn’t found the time. Well, Fiera had all the time in the world, though she wasn’t sure where to start with this… beast. That really was all she could call it, wasn’t it? It wasn’t any recognizable species. Instead it was a crossbreed, an unnatural mix between the various species of the labs. She had never seen one in person before, let alone trained one… but she wasn’t about to let that get her down. She needed to spend more time with it before she could hope to train it though, so… here they were. Hopefully she could spend some time getting some fish and shells as well- Fiera could always do with more goods to throw at Curious Collections. Fiera 1 Isle 5.1/0.1 1

At least this gave her an interesting vantage point though. Normally Fiera found a nice spot along the shore to sit at and put her rod down, but this time… this time she was on an island. A moving one, The pet she had been asked to train, specifically. It was awfully convenient- she had the perfect fishing spot in the middle of the river, and she didn’t even have to buy a boat. Perhaps it wasn’t the SAFEST method of transportation, but she’d like to see someone move in on her fishing spot now. The mangrove barely seemed to notice she was hear, only lifting its head above the water momentarily whenever she shifted on its back. It was practically a floating landmass, and she had it all to herself- for now, at least. “Well, this’ll be fun.” She said, setting down her bag on the roots beneath her.

Her bag was honestly huge and heavy with all the supplies she had to drag with her, but at least riding on this creature’s back made it more easy to handle. With some fiddling, Fiera finally managed to put her fishing pole together. It was a difficult thing, but she supposed that that was because she was still… not great at fishing. Her first try had turned out quite well, but she still wasn’t what most people would call experienced at it. She sighed as she tried for the third time to get the hook tied to the line. Definitely not experienced. Why did everything about this have to be so fiddly and hard anyway? She should buy a spear, Fiera mused. That would make everything a lot easier. What was the point of fiddling with a fancy stick when you could just stab the fish with another type of fancy stick?

That would be way easier! ...Or maybe she could get a trawling net. She’d certainly get a lot MORE fish from that, but they were apparently illegal in this part of the world. Something about massively declining fish populations, or something like that. Fiera was willing to cooperate with it, but couldn’t help but roll her eyes. How bad could the labs environment possibly get? There were a billion fish in the river! Ugh. At least she had her normal pole net, she thought to herself. She took the opportunity to set her fishing pole aside and get out the pole net. Taking it for a ‘test drive’ she looked over the edge of the mangrove crossbreed, which was gliding smoothly through the water. After a moment, Fiera spotted some movement in the water beneath her. That would do- her first catch of the day! She grabbed the net.

Then she scrambled back over to the edge of the water, holding the net up. She was careful to not let her shadow overlap the moving shape, not wanting to scare away whatever fish was down there. She held the net up and waited a moment. “One… two… and… go!” She said, whipping her arm downward. The net splashed into the water, diving through the depths. The sound didn’t even ping on the mangrove crossbreed’s radar, as huge as it was. Fiera was practically an insect on its back right now, though that was fine with her. She had more exciting things to do, she thought as she dragged the net back up. She wondered what would be in it- a nice fish, perhaps? Or even something large enough for her to train? Now that would be nice- she had heard about people getting pets from the river before.

She brought up… some shells. Well, that was a little disappointing. Fiera dumped them out onto the “ground” beneath her. They weren’t even very PRETTY shells, she realized as she turned them over in her hand. They looked a bit like oysters, but without the tasty meat inside. Instead they were just castoffs, lost halves, someone else’s garbage. They were lumpy and while they had a little bit of mother of pearl on their inner halves, it wasn’t much. Fiera sighed as she threw them in her bag regardless- maybe someone could make use of them, but that someone certainly wasn’t her. She wasn’t about to give up now though, not when she had the whole day ahead of her. Instead, she made sure her net was clean and clear, and got ready to try again. She wasn’t about to be defeated by a dumb RIVER in the middle of nowhere.
