Morgan didn't have a whole lot of time anymore to waste before the tournament would be up and going, so they were going to have to cut the bonding time short and just get to the training part. The dragonoak followed them to the park amicably enough, without pulling on the lead or anything of that nature, so when Morgan got to the training spot they went ahead and let her off of the lead so that she could walk around. Morgan watched her for a moment, sitting on the park bench that they had sort of chosen as their own. "Alright Meteora, first things first." Morgan said. The first thing they needed to do was to teach her that whole danger sensing thing. Without it, there would be no point to even entering her. It was the most important part of the pit kit.
Meteora may not have known her name, but she did recognize that tone.

Morgan stayed sat down and then reached into their backpack. They had brought a few things for today, some of which were sticks that were stacked up beside the park bench already. Morgan had come here a couple of days before and placed them down, for hopes of using this. They were a little surprised that the sticks were still there, where were the robots that normally cleaned the park, anyway? Morgan had not seen one in a long while... Anyway, The human also brought the little biodegradable beebees, made out of plant material instead of metal. Morgan planned on using those first for this training, and then hopefully go on to use the sticks after the dragonoak was better at it.
The human took a moment to make soft conversation in the general direction of the dragonoak, hoping that she would understand that Morgan meant no harm, and then they started by tossing one of the plant pieces, still hard and possibly stingy, at her.

The dragonaok had no idea what was going on. She was struck by the biodegradable object (of course she had no idea that it was such) and it stung! It didn't do any bodily harm to her, but it certainly didn't feel good. She narrows her eyes at Morgan, unsure as to what just happened. Morgan sighed, and then grabbed another of them, and threw it at the dragonaok yet again. The dragonoak was hit again, and then once more. This had never happened before? Morgan had trained this particular thing to multiple creatures in the past, of course most of them were sentient, so they were able to explain it to them...
Morgan got up, gently patted the dragonoak to calm her down, and then they sat back down. Morgan decided to try throwing them near her, but not directly at her at first. That may work, Morgan decided. Hopefully it would.

Morgan began by tossing a single of the tiny biodegradable beebees in the general direction of the dragonoak, but purposefully too far to the left to keep from hitting her. This time, the dragonoak got a 'scary' facial expression when she saw the beebee, and then she moved out of the way (not that it was going to hit her in the first place) from the incoming possibly painful object. Morgan counted that as the first 'success', but didn't want to lose the steam. Morgan grabbed another of the biodegradable beebees and then tossed them in her general direction, still managing to keep from hitting her of course, and the dragonoak made her best effort of 'dodging' it again.
She was learning much more slowly than the other creatures Morgan had worked with before, but the human was anything if not patient. They continued this for some time, tossing the beebees and of course not quite hitting her.

The human didn't stop tossing them even when their own shoulder hurt. Of course they made the effort not to hit the dragonoak again. The creature understood now that they hurt and associated them with 'bad', so that was technically good. However, they hadn't quite gotten to the point Morgan knew that they needed to get to in order to get the dragonoak to start 'feeling' attacks before they got there. This was going to take extra time it would seem. That day they went home after an hour of work, and the next day Morgan returned to do the same thing. This time they didn't start by hitting her with the biodegradable beebees and instead started with not quite hitting her with them to get her to move. The dragonoak took some time to warm up, but was doing a little better than she had been doing the day before.

Morgan continued to throw the beebees, and continued to purposefully miss. They wanted the dragonoak to gain in confidence, and they were lucky that she stayed pretty fearful of the little biodegradable beebees. Morgan continued to throw them until finally they saw a little bit of improvement in the right direction, she was no longer running near clear away in an attempt to get away from them. She was beginning to tighten her response to smaller movements, just enough to 'get out of the way', and that was exactly what she needed to be able to do any amount of succeeding in the pit.
The idea of the pit still made Morgan sick, so they tried to keep it out of their mind as they began throwing two beebees at a time instead of just one. They lengthened the time out in the park to two hours that day, Morgan was pleased with the betterment.

The next day they returned, and it was more of the same. Two beebees at a time, not quite hitting the dragonoak, and she had worsened a little. She got hit another time by one of the little stinging beebees, and Morgan could see the twitch in the eye on that side of her that told Morgan that she had been hurt by it. Morgan hated it, but it had to be done if they were going to go ahead and go through with this. Morgan knew that they could technically still stop and choose not to do this, but they continued anyway.
The dragonoak was highly motivated to avoid the beebees again, so she moved more quickly than she had before. Another two hours of this for this day, and the dragonoak was handedly avoiding two beebees at a time. The human and the dragonoak left for that day, and returned the next to do the same.

This went on for a week at the two beebee mark, and Morgan was beginning to wonder if the dragonoak was ever going to 'get it'. Perhaps she didn't quite understand what was going on, or perhaps it was just that she was a little slower than what Morgan was used to working with. However, they kept working at it until finally, the dragonoak was actively looking at other things while dodging the beebees. She hadn't been hit by a beebee in a long time, and they had finally made the breakthrough that Morgan had been looking for! Morgan just about jumped at that, it was so exciting to see real progress!
They were finally running low on beebees, and it was time to move on to the sticks. Morgan was sure that the dragonoak would dodge them now, so they wouldn't cause a lot of damage, and hopefully none at all.

Morgan broke a stick in half, and then threw one of the pieces at the dragonoak when she was looking. The dragonoak had gotten used to this and was less frustrated with the whole 'having things thrown at her' thing, so she didn't really associate it specifically with fear. She dodged it, more like it was a game that could be played, and Morgan loaded up with sticks as they threw the other half at the dragonoak. This too was dodged, and they continued like this for some time. Morgan would throw a stick, and the dragonoak would dodge. At first, Morgan didn't specifically try to hit her, but as it because obvious that she would continue to dodge, Morgan began actually trying to hit Meteora with the sticks that they through. They started with one stick, and graduated to two soon after the had moved to actually trying to hit her.

Morgan continued throwing the sticks at the dragonoak for another hour, and then went to go collect all of the sticks. Not a single one had hit her, but they still hadn't quite gotten to the point to where the human was confident that the dragonoak could reliably do this in a pit setting. The pair continued to do this each day for another three days, with Morgan throwing all of the sticks at her and then going to collect them, and soon enough she was dodging them without looking at them at all. That was exactly what Morgan was looking for! Finally, on the fourth day, she began to be able to reliably dodge the sticks even without looking at them, she was actively expecting them and instinctively dodging them! Morgan couldn't be more pleased that finally they had succeeded. However, the tournament was looming, growing closer and closer. Would they get done in time?

The next thing that Morgan knew needed to be worked on (because there was no point in even trying to win a tournament without it) would be to get the dragonoak used to dealing with enemies that were scary. Most enemies would be trained to be scary if they were not naturally so, and Morgan did not want to even try if Meteora was going to get slowed down by such a cheap trick! So they were out at the park again, and Morgan did another payment to the individual that had a super scary tainted equillion. Morgan often paid this individual to come visit them when training at the park to 'frighten' the creatures that needed to learn how not to get stuck or frozen in fear when there were frightening creatures around.
The human lead Meteora to the park, and waited for the individual with the scary equillion to stop by.

It didn't take very long at all for the individual to come by with their equillion. The tainted was apparently freaking terrifying, for all of Morgan's past creatures, and for the dragonoak it was no different. The dragonoak started to run away as soon as the equillion showed up, but the lead kept her from being able to get away. Morgan had thought in advance and tied it to the park bench, which was in concrete in the ground and wouldn't be easy to pull out for such a small critter. As soon as the dragonoak saw that she couldn't get away, she flattened herself into the grass as low as she could get. The grass was clipped, so there was no real way to hide, but she tried anyway. She also put the park bench between her and the equillion, not that it would help much if it wanted to hurt her.

Morgan hoped that the dragonaok would gain her confidence soon. The individual was astride the tainted equillion and wasn't paying a whole lot of attention. Heck, the tainted equillion wasn't paying any attention either. It was passively scary, Morgan noticed. However, they were sure that the dragonoak wasn't even noticing that. Morgan walked over to the dragonoak and patted her in an attempt to assuage her anxiety. After a bit of petting, the dragonoak still hadn't stood up. Morgan knew that this would be terrible in the pit, so she had to stand at some point. How to get her to stand? Morgan reached for the creature's shoulders, and guided her up carefully. The dragonoak was flattened against the ground and refused to move, so Morgan had to put their weight behind it to get her to sit up the best that they could.
Finally, the dragonoak was crouching instead of flat against the ground.

It hardly helped, as soon as Morgan let go, the dragonaok was flat against the earth again, like the dirt was going to raise up and roll over to cover her up. "Come on, Meteora." Morgan coaxed, trying to get her up. After about fifteen minutes of fighting with her to get her up, the dragonoak stands and Morgan grabs the lead and unties it from the park bench. They were going to have to get closer to the equillion to shake this off, that was how they had done it with the other times that they had trained this specific thing. "You've g-go-got this, come on." Morgan mumbled, leading her over closer to the equillion, at least on the other side of the park bench. The dragonaok anxiously followed at least onto the other side of the park bench, and then refused to move any further.
