The environment is keeping it uneasy, and, well.. justifiably so. If the man has a beast with half a mind, unable to grasp most abstract (Or creative) concepts, he's rather feel threatened by a world made up of abstracts as well. Another possibility is its merely confused, which amounts to the same general degree of unease and overall grouchiness, which, he's starting to learn, seems par for the course for the manticore. (After all, something that's made for rather unscrupulous purposes can hardly be soft and cuddly, even as a ruse).
The knight puts the egg away, and notes that in spite of all the above, there's a rather specific type of unease in the beast. An alertness to a source and the kind of stuck-in-between nature of something that doesn't quite know how to handle a situation it doesn't like. His eyeline follows the manticore's and lands on something green and small in the opposite flower bed.. something that looks like a snake.

A snake that is and isn't. By design it looks real enough, even if the colours betray it's rather toy like nature far more than the fact it's not moving. However, the manticore doesn't seem to be able to make that distinction, and there's certainly a deep enough root in most living mind to have that instinct where snakes and snake-like shapes are not to be trusted (After all, it is better to avoid it entirely than to be poisoned to death). It is almost adorable to see the great beast so indecisive by so small a thing (Almost. It's not exactly a great quality of a herald, but one that should be easy enough to mend).
"It's nothing," the knight finally intones, and raises the glaive to reach over and knock the rubbery thing over. "Just a toy." The spikes on the beast rattle and raise when it's moved, even involuntarily, but several moments pass as they gradually lower, the best seeming to have understood the point well enough.

That is better, though not quite enough to guarantee the beast wouldn't fall prey to such simple distractions again. Beneath the helm, the brows do raise, though, as the knight reached into the flower bed a picks up the toy snake, joviality seeping into that low voice, "Of course, if you're so intent on fixating on it, we can always take it home and you can keep it as a toy." He is only half joking (And leaves it entirely unclear as to which half).
The rubber snake goes into the pouch as well, when the manticore's spikes rattle again, signalling something else catching its attention that really shouldn't. This time it's not something inanimate.. at least, not entirely - A few metres away the air is filled with a cloud of colours, swirling and sifting around a floating form. A buzz in the air is distinctly that of bug wings, and the 'thing' is rather quick to dart from one spot to another.

The sight of it is not unfamiliar, though even a reoccurring sight doesn't necessarily make the experience any more clear than the first. He remembers seeing this type of bug before, a dragonfly of some description, if that description was muddled in entirely too bright colours and warping space around it. The kind you'd only find in dreams, for the oddity wouldn't hold up to scrutiny in reality. It fluttered about aimlessly for a time, before beginning to drift towards them, as if alerted and drawn to their presence.
The manticore's spines were quick to rise at this, letting loose a deep rumble of a growl as the multi-rowed teeth exposed further. The tail behind it rose to striking position, and is certainly by no means a threat display so much as a threat promise - The beast doesn't know how to bluff, so if it's looking to do something, it won't let something as inconsequential as doubt get in its way.

Up to a degree it would have been amusing enough to watch the beast fight the concept of a dream, just to see what happens.. (And he was almost tempted to let it come to pass). But they weren't here to start fights, only to find answers (And that moment had long since passed them now, left to wait for another year). So instead, the knight steps between the bug and beast and holds up a gloved hand at the manticore, "Easy.. Settle down. It's not a threat to us." Many things were, but not simple dream bugs the size of one's palm.
The dragonfly, for all it seems to understand, doesn't seem to make a fuss over the threats and appeasements around it, as it simply flutter over and around them a few moments, before landing on a garden table nearby. A motion that is otherwise only notable by the fact that there had not been a table there just moment before.

The knight's helmeted head seems to follow around the beast's form to track it and give a curious tilt at the sight. Interesting.. Spontaneous furniture is not an uncommon sight, though usually the change is far more drastic. The table isn't alone in filling the space either, as there looks to be a nest of sorts upon it - A basket of woven dried macaroni and filled with soft green fur as 'grass' (A terrible combination, really, but then who is he to judge the manor's madness?) Within it, two eggs and a bottle, above it, attached to the arcing handle, a mask of sorts.
Gift baskets are a concept he's certainly familiar with, but there's a certain degree of concern that comes from the notion the manor might have left a gift basket for him, especially after the most recent of theft and glitter bombs. (And making so on the nose with the mask, no less).

He picks off the mask, turning it around in his hand. A little gaudy, but if ever there were a masquerade in town, it would certainly fit right in (Not to mention for any other purposes). A bit too wide for the pouch, but he loops the ropes around the belt to fasten it that way (And coming to realize he really should address the issue with a much larger bag, at some point in time, if he's to continue visiting this accursed place).
When the gloved hand reaches out to pick up the basket, something flakes off the handle at the touch. He raises it up, not quite noticing it at first (For no doubt the thing could be painted in gaudy yellow gauche on top of everything, as it seems the childlike thing to do) and likely would have paid it no mind afterwards either, if the shedding didn't continue - Yellow and green flecks falling away as the pasta-like material suddenly reveals wound brown vines beneath, the 'fur' shedding its fake nature to become something a lot more real..

That does catch his attention, and there's a suspicious frown at the shift, one which could have almost given cause enough to drop the item if the sudden flacking effect didn't extent out to their surroundings as well. Before the eyes of both beast and man, the world seems to slowly turn into dust, the bright and colourful, the inexplicable and unusual crackling and shedding all the bright colours and fancies.
And beneath, he sees bare rock and stone - Cool, grey, mottled brown and only the barest shades of mossy green. A scent of a cave brings a sudden shift in the senses, the temperature and sudden moisture of one as well, as the back of the mind has that faintest of familiar tickles. Not for the sight before him, for he has never seen the manor in such configuration before, but for the fact that the manor, very evidently, has decided to change on them again.

By the time all is said and done, they are standing in a cool, rock-lined room, as if within the crevice of a miniature canyon. There is no ceiling above them, but the bright, distant light of some far off stars. Here and there he can spot the hazy glow of blue or purple, something crystalline jutting out of the walls to offer ambient light, though by and large the area is quite shaded (Not that this would be a problem for him or the beast).
But the beast is certainly still having problems of its own. The manticore snarls and juts its own spikes up in warning and threat, rather unkind to the manner at which it had just been treated. It is little wonder, for it would hardly have the easiest time comprehending most worldly concepts, much less something like the manor, which can stump even the sharpest of minds (Much to his continued annoyance).

And, admittedly, the man's feeling a little irritable himself, though he can't quite place the cause as to why. Perhaps its the cavern-like nature of the space, with the earthly scent and tight spaces bringing a little too many parallels to a certain crypt's gap into the hell beneath the earth, perhaps it's simply the nature of it being something that feels quite innately hazardous (There's a fairly good reason he never gave the city's mines a go, and while the sky above is open, it only helps alleviate the sense of irritation than remove it entirely).
Or, perhaps its the fact that this place seems.. new. Previous excursions could have skipped something in the temporal displacements between the shifts, and this means there's a whole new set of boards, with potentially whole new set of rules. Normally this would be something quite exciting, as if a puzzle to figure out and plan around, and yet..

The air is cold and having that distinct scent of a cavern, but there's something beneath that's more subtle. He can't make it out, but he remains fairly sure that could be the source of the irritation (Or something in the surroundings, now that he thinks about it, something the mind's picking up but not quite yet able to give words to).
Behind him, the beast continues to snarl until he waves the glaive-holding hand in a ceasing motion, "Settle down." The rumbling stops and the beast seems to fold the wings back in, but the spikes remain upward, as if it doesn't quite trust the surroundings enough to let its guard down so easily (Which is just as well, for the man rather hoped it would learn to do so in time). Glancing about, the cavern runs one way and another, with an alcove around one corner. So the path isn't blocked, though it's certainly not exactly 'descriptive' either.

Without a sense of direction, any one cavernous path could lead anywhere, with no particular different as to 'forward' or 'back'. The shifts never leave them in quite the same place, as much he's learned, but with this being a whole new setting, it leaves them disoriented a little more than usual. The knight begins to pace around the room, taking in more of its clues, as to better understand what they are dealing with.
Cave is a central theme, but the crystals add an almost arcane-feeling sort of flare. Beyond that, there's little else and what few features he does spot seem almost rudimentary - A few clay pots and vases nestled against the wall in the alcove, some clay-looking tablets on a stony shelving on the opposite side of the room, and a few wall carvings here and there, as if chiselled directly into the stone itself. He steps up to one and runs the gloved finger along the grooves, to identify the tools that might've been used.
