Fiera strolled up to the breeding center, admittedly not looking where she was going very well as she tapped on her phone. Pauline trotted along beside her, not pulling on her leash. It wasn't because she was feeling obedient per see, but more because there wasn't much else here of interest. Their journey to the breeding center had been uninteresting so far, though Fiera was sure it would pick up. After all, Fiera was doing a houluh breeding today, and with a person she hadn't met face to face yet. All of the houluh breedings she had done before were with Jack, who was a nice enough woman. She had never met Morgan before, but she had heard of 'Worse Than Nicotine'. The patronne had one the last houluh salonne show, and Fiera knew from the moment the winners were announced that she'd have to get a piece of those genes.

Jack had told Morgan about this kennel, and it just so happened to be one of the kennels that had put a houluh into the first Salonne show, a zephyr, right? Every houluh that had been entered had performed incredibly well, Morgan had been quite impressed. Impressed enough that they had found it tantamount to get a-hold of both Natural and Breezy for Nico's last couple of breedings. Nico walked at heel as the bespectacled human quietly walked down the sidewalk to the breeding center. They'd stopped for just a moment to pick up a coffee, and was now holding the insulated cup in their off hand as they walked. 'Here we are, Nico.' Morgan sent along the starry-colored RoT that linked them. 'Help me look for someone with a Matronne.' The human wound up standing outside of the breeding center, sipping on a coffee. Nico stood at their boots, his ears pricked and nose twitching. The human held a curious trinket in their other hand, almost absent-minded in their consideration of it. "You think you found them, good boyo?" Morgan asked Nico, and then followed his gaze. [2]

Fiera had on a mint green cardigan and a pale salmon dress with a similarly colored ribbon in her hair with a pair of round sunglasses perched on her nose, her long black tail curled around her legs. Needless to say, she wasn't hard to spot. Pauline's tail started wagging at the sight of another houluh and she woofed quietly, alerting her owner to the other pair's presence. Fiera looked up from her phone, peering from behind her glasses at the human. "Ah!" She said, her ears perking up, and she walked over to Morgan. "Morgan, I presume? Of Wiltholm's?" She said, sweeping them into a handshake. "A pleasure, really. Fiera Ferella- and Pauline's Surprise, of course." She said, tilting her head to gesture to her houluh, which was sniffing in Nico's direction already. "Have everything for the breeding today, then?" She asked, getting right to the point of the matter.

Morgan was not really one to keep up with fashions. Of course with the kind of money they kept, they made sure their clothes fit well, and that slacks were hemmed and the shirts were comfortable and didn't hang or flap, but they kept it really simple. Black slacks, red plaid long sleeved shirt comfortably rolled up to the elbows. The only thing out of place was the thick boots- or maybe the golden coin hanging around their neck. It was an immaculate sort of 'messy', obviously meant to look that way. The glasses sitting just slightly crookedly on the nose though- that clearly wasn't intentional.
It was at stark contrast perhaps to the fashionable humanish that Morgan recognized had to be the individual from the salonne show. Morgan raised their hand in greeting as Nico strutted forward a couple of steps, tail loosely wagging in his calm princely manner. "One and t-the same." Morgan said, a left-eye wink delivered along with a tight grin. "Nice to meet you, Miss Ferella, or what would you prefer?" Morgan would keep an eye out for an extended hand. They weren't very touchy, but they understood that some people preferred a handshake. Morgan instead pulls the bell up from where they had been holding it by the lace and catches the bell itself in their palm.
"Yes, s-certainly. I hope you don't mind the trinket here?" Morgan said to the well-dressed lady. They straightened up from the wall to grab the door and hold it open for them. Then a quick head tilt towards Nico. "What do you think about t-the pretty lady, huh?" Morgan said, intending the houluh that Nico was so intent on greeting.

Despite her outwardly friendly appearance, Fiera was judging Morgan quite heavily. Not through any fault of their own- that was just what Fiera was like. What she did pick on was that Morgan's outwardly casual depiction was well crafted, with just a couple flaws. Fiera was quite familiar with the look, having recreated it herself many a time. Even the wink and the grin seemed constructed. She made a note to keep an eye on them- there was probably more than met the eye with this 'Morgan'. "Oh, Miss Ferella is fine, dear." She said, waving her hand casually. "Just so long as it's not Mrs, ha!" Then she glanced at the item in Morgan's hand as she walked through the door. "No, I don't mind the trinket. Though ah... what is it again? I know it's something to do with houluh, but I couldn't find a lot of information in my research."

Keeping a careful eye on the individual, Morgan's mental gears were already grinding. They tended to do this when they met new people that they had to maintain positive relationships with (it was useful to maintain breeding bridges when it came to houluh, they always reminded theirself of that). They took first impressions but readied them to be changed as new information was gathered during the course of their day. "Miss Ferella it is." Their voice somewhat inscrutable (admittedly they were bad with names). The bespectacled human was quite skilled with picking up on hints. "A b-bad run in?" The human's expression was partially humored but teetered back and forth on the line of 'could easily become understanding and somber if the situation called for it'.
Now this was what Morgan was skilled at- imparting information. They noticed their glasses being slightly tilted, finally, and fixed them as they spoke. "These are meant to i-impart a goddess' blessings on the houluh pups. Admittedly I am not a hundred percent sure what that would mean, and t-to be honest I don't believe in deities-" A moment's thought passes in between words, changing their expression. "To be honest I'm a researcher by trade. I'd love to know what w-will oc-oc- what will happen, if anything."
Meanwhile, Nico seems to decide that the other houluh deserved an invitation to play. He had been here before, and was certain that Morgan would be fine with it. He knew what to do. He bows down, front legs down and butt up in the air (so undignified) and focuses his brown eyes on the female.

Fiera scoffed as she caught the inside of the door, holding it open for Morgan in turn. "No." She said, a little more firmly than was probably necessary. "I'm just no missus. I mean really, do I look that old to you?" She said, pointing at herself and saying the question in such a way that implied that there was really only one correct answer if you wanted your eardrums to remain intact. She raised her eyebrow when Morgan explained the trinket. "Yeah, I know what you mean." She said, smirking. "Honestly, if you told me about magic and gods and whatnot six months ago, I would have laughed you out the door. But the stuff I've seen- or, well, OWN by this point... well, serves me right for not believing, eh? Let me know if you manage to research up anything interesting."
Pauline meanwhile had been here once before, but she wasn't entirely comfortable with the place yet. She shuffled away from Nico, still a little shy.

Morgan was a little surprised at having the door held open for them (common courtesy, they told theirself, Jack does this as well) and they passed as politely as they could with an incline of their head that was gracious. That was quite the firm no... Morgan placed this in the mental box, ready to parse out meaning later, when formality was not quite so important. If they were going to continue to have a breeding partnership, Morgan had to smooth this over, and quickly. "Oh no, su-certainly not! It isn't uncommon for individuals to marry young, however." Morgan gave a quick smile. "Hard to imagine you not having to beat off the suitors with a stick." Morgan braced automatically. Some folks took decently to the flirting, and some did not.
The human nodded. "I think the c-closest anyone can get to magic or gods is through application of science." Seriously, did Morgan not know how to talk about the weather like a normal person? Small talk was not something Morgan was skilled with. "People do tend to call things they d-don't yet understand 'magic'." It was difficult for the human to talk 'magic' without the chaos singing through their veins. The buzz wasn't entirely too unwelcome, right now. At that, a nod. "Certainly."
The matronne was shy, it would seem, or uncomfortable. Nico hoped for shy, he knew that he was supposed to be charming, but he wasn't quite pushy. He instead stretched out, like he had meant to be stretching, settling his butt down as he did so. Then he stood up again. Yes, totally, I totally meant to just stretch. He looked away from her, letting his attention slide off without truly ignoring her. Politely. No hound wanted to be stared directly at.

Fiera noted smugly how Morgan almost seemed chagrined at Fiera returning the favor of holding open the door. That slid back into neutrality with their next comment, though. Well played. "Ha! Well, you're absolutely right." She said, fluttering her false eyelashes. "But marriage is for chumps." She huffed. "I'm sure you know how it is- one day they say you'll stand side by side forever, the next? Oh, yeah, the boys don't like you so we're just going to have to like. Exile you from the whole town." She said, before huffing. "Flake." She said under her breath. "What about you though? I'm sure..." She said, looking Morgan up and down. "...Some people have been interested!"
"Ugh, science." Fiera said, waving a hand and she approached the front desk of the breeding center. "That was never my jam either, though I have respect. I've always been more of a people person, you know?"
Pauline tilted her head at the other odd houluh. It seemed like he just couldn't decide on what he was doing, shifting from one action to another in hope of a response. It was a little silly, she had to admit, and the tip of her tail started to wag ever so slightly as she followed her owner.

The bespectacled human took a moment to adjust their glasses, once inside the breeding center. Morgan hadn't been this challenged by a social situation in a long while. It was partially exciting in a way, but it wasn't something that Morgan was expecting. Not sure whether to mentally backpedal or push on, the human decides to continue teetering between. On one hand, this could be an exciting development, but on the other hand it did make it much more difficult to get what Morgan wanted. Hopefully the shared goal would be enough.
Admittedly the human had never really put much thought into the idea of getting married personally. They'd never really found anyone they felt any sort of way about on that way. "I've heard some horror stories- I d-don't blame you for not wanting to be tied down." That was the truth, at least. They did, however, catch the look up and down, and almost instinctively winked. "I've n-never really been interested." Morgan shrugged. "Pursuit of science and all that." Morgan knew what 'love' did to folks- Ryuusei and Seimei had been absolutely all over one another lately. Yuck.
Morgan filed that away for later, though it wasn't uncommon to meet folks who's number one love wasn't science. "People, huh?" Morgan said, nodding. "I've never been much of a people p-person." The human admitted, moving over to queue in the line without really looking at whether or not it had a lot of people in it or very few. "What do you do for a living, might I ask?" Normal people talk, good.
Nico followed his human into the door, his tail held low but loose-wagging. This was a peculiar matronne, but it sort of felt like a game. He'd only been with one other Matronne before, so he was drawing on a 'wealth' of knowledge from one experience. He did catch sight of the wagging tail tip, and he thought- Well, that is a good sign. She was a true lady, this one. For once, he felt somewhat embarassed.

Oh, the wink. Fiera gave a sly smile, but it was more 'laughing at you, not with you'. Morgan definitely wasn't her type. "Good for you!" Fiera said, standing behind the last person in line. "Sticking to your goals and whatnot. If I had done that when I was younger, well, I certainly wouldn't be here, that's for sure." She said, nodding. If she hadn't let her feelings get the best of her, maybe she could have just offed that idiot instead of confronting him. She could have swept in and took over, and well... things would certainly be different, wouldn't they? The Labs would just be some far off, irrelevant rumor. Ah well. Choices. "That definitely ties into my interests though- I'm a politician, dear. Running the voting circuits and whatnot. I've gained quite the following by now- I'm surprised you hadn't heard of me already." She said, putting a humble hand on her chest.
Pauline followed obediently after her owner. A true lady was right- Fiera wouldn't have raised anything but. Still, she couldn't help but give coy little glances back at Nico, looking to see if he gave any response.

Morgan couldn't help but feel like perhaps, they were in one of the more dangerous social situations that they could have been in. That Jack lady really could become friends with anyone, couldn't she? Morgan had found out last time they'd met her for a houluh breeding that she was marrying that Jackalope too- needless to say, Morgan was totally judging! They were typically quite picky with their time. People in Society could be much more dangerous than even Morgan's tat family in some ways. "Ah, but then you w-wouldn't be here!" Morgan answered, in jest. "The Labs city can be quite exciting." Morgan wasn't going to mention that they were born here and didn't know anywhere else. They'd read plenty of books on the subject, though.
It wasn't uncommon for people that had to leave where they lived before to flee to the Labs for promise of opportunity, protection, and a fresh start. "Politician, ah?" Morgan said, nodding. They absent-mindedly flipped their hair out of their face as they listened. "I haven't h-had to pay attention to politics in some time." They admitted, they were sort of a hermit these last couple of years. Nevermind the fact that they had people to 'look into it for their interests' on the payroll. It wasn't something Morgan wanted to be directly tied to. Not in their position. "You must certainly be very g-good at it- your speech sounds quite educated." Morgan said, voice light. They placed a hand on Nico's head to scritch him behind one long floppy ear.
Nico took that moment, in turning his head supposedly so that Morgan could get to that itchy place behind his ear better, to sneak a glance at that Matronne. She was beautiful, but he couldn't look to desperate- there was no way that this one would react kindly to that. One look, a gentle swish of the tail to show that it was not in aggression, and that had to be it for now.

"Ha, well!" Fiera said. "You're certainly right on that. Can't say I ever saw a dragon- or the dozens of things that pass for them- before I came here." She mused. Morgan seemed... well, perhaps not harmless. But if she was being honest, almost naive. Inexperienced. Perhaps knowledgeable about what she was, but not on how to deal with that. She could work with that. She smiled when she heard that Morgan wasn't into politics. "Well, I can't blame you for it. It's awfully boring if you aren't personally into it." Not to mention being remaining uneducated about politics worked out in her favor- she could say any pretty thing and people would nod their heads along. She herself was nodding along at the comment about her speech. "Mm, yes. I had lessons when I was young. I'm just glad that the people here speak the same language is all- even if your accents are a little funny." She said with a sly smile.
Pauline was still glancing at Nico every so often, and didn't fail to notice how polite he was trying to be. As if rewarding him, she shuffled a little bit closer, trying to catch his scent on the air.

Dragons. Dragons were certainly Morgan's favorite thing. It had sort of spawned from their father's bedtime stories about dragons- where they were always so much more... Everything, than people. So cool! It had somewhat bled over into Morgan's adult life thanks to the Labs creating so many pseudo-dragons. Some of which Were practically dragons, it was so strange! "Not a s-single dragon outside of the city." Morgan said, giving a quick nod. "A real shame." Morgan was somewhat uncomfortable, but this would pass, they knew. They'd have to sit at home later and pick on this conversation a bit to figure it all out, to try to guess what kind of a person this Ferella was upon first impressions. "I can imagine it is a useful skill ta h-have. Being able to turn so many heads- g-get people to do what you think is best." Morgan mused. It was not a pointed statement at all, more... Amused at the idea of such a thing. Interested even. "Everyone's got an accent f-from somewhere. Native Labs Denizens aren't very c-common." A smile right back.
Nico knew he had to play the 'long game', if he was going to impress this lady. She seemed to be casting him gazes, but Nico would never assume. He did, however, turn his head slightly, politely towards Morgan, so that if the lady wanted to get a little closer to do anything (including sniff to meet him) she didn't have to worry about him 'noticing'.
