Fiera felt like she hadn’t done a breeding in ages… and she supposed she hadn’t. Through the months of March and April, she hadn’t done a single breeding, for pachee at least. Houluh breedings she had done a couple of over the month. She had decided to hold off on pachee breeding while she carried out a contest, the likes of which The Labs hadn’t seen. The pachee breeding contest was a success, as far as she was concerned, with a good number of participants. Still, she had held off on breeding any of her pachee during that time because of it. Part of the contest was allowing people to borrow her pachee for free for breedings (which only a couple of people took advantage of, but it was still enough to be worth it.), so she tried to avoid breeding as many of them as possible to make sure there’d be enough for everyone to use. She never knew which ones people would pick, after all. Now that the contest was done though, and the prizes passed out, the breeding itch had returned to her and she knew she had to do a pachee breeding soon. And what wonderful options she had this time.

She had managed to accumulate quite a few pachee since last time, and was quite excited to use them. The weather had cleared up too, allowing her to get there faster. It was definitely spring now, that was for sure. Her pachee were excited too, sniffing the breeze through the bars, trying to get any hints of pollen. The warm weather meant that they were a lot more active than in the colder months, and she could feel them skitter across the interior of their cages. It made it a little harder to carry them, but Fiera was glad that they were feeling enthusiastic- it would be the first breeding she had done with both of them. She was especially excited as this was her first time breeding two pachee with addons. She could only imagine the variety of offspring they’d produce. With that in mind, she picked up her pace on the sidewalk toward the breeding center, a newfound pep in her step as she walked. This was going to be so much fun! She could barely wait to get started, even though she was still a fair distance from the breeding center. She just had to keep on trucking.

The first pachee she had with her was a female she had been calling Veros Vindication, or Veros for short. It was a pachee that she had been given by Jack, as payment for training a houluh for her. It was an excellent trade, if Fiera did say so herself. She was a beautiful pachee, and had an addon that was unique for her. She had large, leathery bat wings upon her back and a fine black coat with tan markings upon it. She seemed… flighty, to say the least. Flicking between one thing and another, never paying attention for long. Her airy personality could be difficult sometimes, but from what she heard the female was a good breeder, and already had a couple of offspring and grandchildren. Well, that was good enough for Fiera- and she would love to have some more of those bat winged babies around. Especially because those black and tan markings could result in some interesting offspring. With any luck, Veros would be able to keep her attention on Song long enough to accept his pollen- though thankfully female pachee didn’t need to be too ‘active’ in breedings. It was mostly sitting around for them.

The male for this breeding was named Song from the Sky, which she had nicknamed ‘Song’ when she talked to him. He was a custom pachee- Fiera’s first. She had never ordered a custom before him, but the process had been surprisingly pleasant and painless. She would have to do it more often- or at least from the Rainbow Factory more often. And man, was it worthwhile. Song from the Sky was gorgeous- one of the best ideas she had ever had. He was covered in eyes- or perhaps eyelike markings, bright turquoise in coloration and lined with gold pinstripes. His body started as an orange coloration on his back half and then fading up to bright scarlet around his head and shoulders. Every inch of him was covered in the eyes, even his wings- oh, his wings. The usual tufts of grass that were on the backs of a pachee were gone on him, replaced with long wings made entirely of leaves, completely covered in the gold lining and eyes. On top of that, his whole body gave off a soft, golden glow, making it look like Fiera was keeping some sort of lamp inside the pet carrier as opposed to a pachee.

Song from the Sky had a beautiful appearance, but his personality quite matched it. He acted… regal, for lack of a better word. Not necessarily snooty or self absorbed (like some of her other pachee, like her peacock male), but firm and confident, like he knew what he wanted and how to get it at all times. He had been sitting quite pretty in his carrier, moving around far less than Veros on the way to the breeding center. It seemed like he had some idea of what was going on… or if he didn’t, he just didn’t care about what was going on. Still, calm was far better to Fiera than panic, and she was happy to bring him along. She was getting close too, as the quest board passed by on her left. Fiera frowned a bit as she saw it- she still had yet to do a quest this month, and knew she had to get on it soon. She didn’t want to miss out on what was going on this month- who knew what sort of goodies she could get! It would have to wait, though- she still had a breeding to get done today. The sidewalk kept passing by, carrying her toward the breeding center.

Within a few minutes, she saw its parking lot come into view. Just a few more moments, and she saw the colorful eaves and front door of the breeding center. She smiled- it looked the same as usual, with some new advertisements swapped in to celebrate spring. She noted that there were some advertisements for houluh breedings now- they had really been picking up in popularity lately! Fiera herself had done a couple lately, and was planning on doing more. For now though, she had pachee. She gently pushed open the door with one shoulder, quite glad for the fact that the breeding center’s front door was double hinged for people awkwardly handling pet carriers like she was. When she got in, she immediately made a left turn and set her carriers down on the nearest chair. The breeding center was pretty empty today, all things considered. Perhaps because it was a week day, and everyone else was at work. Still, Fiera was ultimately grateful for it. With any luck, it meant that she wouldn’t have to wait long to get access to her breeding room. She had booked hers in advance, but sometimes the schedules got messed up and she had to wait for a while.

Thankfully, there was only one person that Fiera had to wait behind this time, some woman with a couple of orbaru, one tucked under each arm. Sloth orbaru thankfully, so they didn’t do much but snooze while she held them. Pleasant- that meant that they didn’t need a carrier. Once she was out of the way, Fiera slid her ID over the counter along with the printed out receipt for this breeding session. “Fiera Ferella, checking in.” She said smoothly, peering down at the receptionist. It was some mammalian she hadn’t seen before, of a species she didn’t recognize but they sure were stripey. “Have a pachee breeding for 2:30, with Veros Vindication and Song from the Sky?” The receptionist nodded and tapped on the keyboard, unusually quiet for a breeding center employee, though still polite. They hit a few more buttons, and another receipt printed from a nearby machine. Fiera took it from them, and looked at the number on it. “Room 7.” They said quietly, and pointed with one short claw to the door on their left. “It should be ready for you now.” They finished, and Fiera gave them a polite nod. Just as she thought.

This place really wasn’t busy today, and Fiera was just fine with that. She strode back over to the chair near the entrance and reclaimed her pachee, who were busy staring at her from behind the bars. “Ready, guys? This should be fun!” She said, trying to get them just as excited. She pushed open the double doors behind the desk, entering the hallway. It looked the same as usual, with colorful tiles and nicely painted doors. Soon she found door seven, on her right hand side. She pushed it open into the pachee breeding room. It had a platform near the door, with a couple of chairs and magazines for people to read while they waited for their pets to finish their business. Then there was the rest of the room. It was naturalistic in appearance, with soft soil for the pachee to play in, and a variety of plants scattered around for them to hide under, and a few rocks to stand on. Fiera set the pachee down gently, hoping that this wouldn’t take too long. It looked like they hadn’t changed the pachee rooms’ layouts since she was last here, so this wouldn’t take too long.

Fiera set the pachee berries down on one of the rocks in the middle of the room, arranging them nicely. She used these berries in all of her breedings nowadays, to maximize the quality and quantity of the offspring she produced. The three berries were practically a necessity for her by this point. After they were set down, Fiera went back to the carriers and took out Veros. The pachee started wiggling in her arms almost immediately, and Fiera was forced to release her before she was able to get her over to the berries. She sighed with exasperation, but to her relief the female pachee made a beeline to the berries regardless. She sniffed at them carefully, putting one paw on the rock. “That’s it! Those are for you! Go ahead!” Fiera said, waving at her. Veros looked at her and then back to the berries, before experimentally mashing one with one paw, checking the flavor with her ‘roots’. She seemed excited, and almost immediately threw herself onto the rest, stamping them into mush. Fiera frowned at how much ‘splashing’ she was doing, but with any luck she was absorbing enough to get their beneficial effects in her system.

As Veros kept herself occupied, Fiera went over to Song from the Sky’s carrier and released him. The pachee took a couple steps out and stretched before giving Fiera a look that she assumed was meant to be disapproving. She just shrugged- she wasn’t about to let him out any sooner. Still, he seemed to want to get to business, and trotted over to Veros. He almost immediately rubbed up against her, pressing his head under her chin. The female’s wings puffed out in surprise but not disgust, and she seemed almost abashed. With a few more strokes and nuzzles, Fiera could see the slit on her forehead open. Song seemed to notice that, and thumped his tail on the ground a few times in response. Sure enough, a cloud of golden, glowing dust rose into the air, landing on Veros’s face. Fiera pulled her shirt up a bit, not wanting to breathe it in. She was sure it was harmless, but… well, the less pachee pollen she could walk out covered in, the better. At least they had done it quick though- it looked like Song was a pretty clever little man, and knew what to do right away. Hopefully soon, she’d have a set of beautiful babies.
