Not so long after her last breeding, Fiera was back on the way to the breeding center, a pet carrier under one arm. A couple days ago, she had met back up with Silver, the tricky individual who had accosted her at her garden, accompanied by a giant lizard. It had been... completely annoying if she was being honest, and she didn't have a fantastic opinion of them. And yet, she had seen them again on accident a few days ago, and they practically fell over themself to apologize for Cepe's actions. Out of politeness they had chit chatted for a bit, and soon got onto the topic of breeding pachee. Soon Fiera had revealed that she had quite the collection and was always looking for more. One thing led to another, and soon enough Fiera found herself getting ready for a breeding today. Coastal Town's Nightmare sat in the carrier under her right arm.

This was one of those places that was becoming increasingly familiar to them. The breeding center seemed busier than ever these days. Silver faintly remembered a time it was new and only populated by Orbaru. Now there were many species allowed there, including the cute, quirky plants known as Pachee. Pachee seemed to follow the plant laws of reproduction even though they mostly looked like kittens. Silver found it fascinating, so they were more than happy to agree to accompany their new 'friend' to the breeding center to see what happened.
Silver didn't own any carriers or leashes, so they just had Pounce tucked under their arm. Pachee were peaceful creatures who generally didn't get into too much trouble, so they didn't think there would be an issue with it. They wandered through the halls looking for the right room. Which one had she said it would be, again? Damn their fickle memory. It was Quin who got their attention and pointed them down the right hallway, whether he did it intentionally or not. They chased him for a bit, trying to get him under control, and managed to stop just short of crashing into a wall. Right in front of Fiera. Oops. Silver blushed lightly and waved sheepishly. They were really not good at first impressions, or... third ones, as it turned out.

After a few minutes, Fiera managed to find her way to the breeding center. From there it was an easy enough process to check in. It didn't look like Silver had arrived yet, so Fiera went ahead and checked herself in, assuming Silver would follow suit. Her shoes clacked as she traveled down the hall, with all of its colorful tiles. She was happy it had gone so quickly- normally there was a bit of time you had to wait in the waiting room first. She leaned against the wall and tapped around on her phone, wondering where Silver was. Soon she heard a distant flapping noise, which quickly grew louder and louder. She didn't question it- there were a few breedable pets that existed, and so it wasn't a particularly odd noise to hear. Even when it came down the hall she didn't question it- until she looked up for a moment and found Silver mere inches from her face. Fiera hissed loudly and her tail puffed out in surprise, stumbling backwards and tripping over her own pet carrier, going crashing onto the ground. "Fffffflipping HECK!" She shouted.

Despite their agility, Silver was generally pretty clumsy. It wasn't that they couldn't physically make the motions, but more that they were only ever half paying attention to anything in their surroundings. There were so many thoughts racing through their head, some of which weren't even their own, that they had trouble focusing on the present. It was just one of those things they had gotten used to, though it often made a mess of social situations where paying attention was at least a little important. Like this one, for example.
"Woah, I am so sorry," Silver said. This was at least the second time they had knocked her over unintentionally. She must think they were terrible at keeping creatures! They would have to feel bad about that later, because helping her seemed much more important in that moment. They plopped Pounce down onto the floor and reached out both of their paws to her as an offer to help her up. Pounce didn't really know what was going on, so he flopped onto his belly and peeked into the carrier where Coastal was. Oh! A girl. He twitched his ears and waved his tail around a bit. Quin landed next to him and peeked into the box as well. Chirp!

"You are TERRIBLE at keeping creatures." Fiera said, vocalizing Silver's fears as she got back up, waving off Silver's attempts to help. "Maybe work on holding onto your own pets and not me, eh?" She said, heaving herself up and brushing herself off. Thankfully, her tail seemed to take the brunt of the impact, leaving her with no broken bones. Her ego was definitely bruised, though.
Hearing some noises behind her, Coastal turned around from where she was facing the back of the carrier, cowering in fear. Fiera stumbling over her cage had quite spooked her! SHe didn't get to see who was there though, as Fiera snatched the carrier up, lifting her away from the other pets. "Anyway..." Fiera said, brushing the carrier off a bit. "This is the female I mentioned. Coastal Town's Nightmare. Isn't she a pretty gal?" She said, gesturing to the female pachee through the bars of the carrier.

Silver's ears fell back and their tail pressed against their legs, like a Vulticus pup who had been scolded for doing something naughty. It was difficult for them to hide their reactions, given how expressive their ears were. They didn't want to make a big deal out of it, though, so they swallowed hard and took a deep breath to steady themselves. Everything would be okay. They repeated the thought in their head a few times to push out the idea that they were actually doing wrong by their creatures. She was probably just lashing out because she was scared, right? Just like an Equillion who had been spooked. A tickle of doubt remained, but they tried their hardest to ignore it.
"Ah, she's beautiful," Silver said. There was a squeak in their voice that betrayed their timidness. They were very glad for the change of subject. "This is Pounce," they said. Pounce was still laying on the ground, now looking up at Fiera and the carrier that had his friend in it. Where was she going? Quin was pretty quickly bored of that, so he flew back up and landed on top of Silver's head where he curled up and let out a big yawn. "and this is Quin, you might remember him?" Quin was with Silver when they agreed to meet up, but they weren't sure whether or not she really noticed him before.

Fiera wasn't a spooked equillion, she was just a jerk. In fact, she couldn't help but feel a lick of satisfaction as she saw Silver's bashful reaction, and resisted the urge to nod approvingly. It had been too long since someone feared Fiera. She had to admit, she sort of missed the feeling. But alas, she was pretty sure those days had passed her by. Still, she couldn't help but notice the squeak in Silver's voice as she spoke. "Of course she's beautiful. I bred her myself, you know. She's a splendid little creature. And so is yours! Pounce, huh?" She said, squatting down and offering her hand to the pachee to sniff. Quin was... a bit different though. "Ah, no, I don't think I noticed your... Quin when we met up. What is he, if you don't mind my asking?" She said, looking the strange little silver dragonoid over.

No matter how unpleasant someone was to them, Silver always tried to see the good in everyone. As long as no one was being threatened, they could rationalize pretty much anything. Doubly so when it came to their creatures. For every creature that tried to bite or maim them, there was an excuse about how they were just misunderstood or afraid.
"That's great," Silver said with a nod. They didn't know that much about Pachee breeding, so they were willing to believe her that it took a lot of effort to get one so cute. "Yep, Pounce is the offspring of my girl, Lea." They didn't mention the part where it was actually Nina who bred him, since Fiera seemed so proud of hers. They didn't want her thinking that they just let some weirdo Trod wander off with their creatures, even though that was somewhat true in this case.
"Quin is a Paogon," Silver said, pointing to him as if it wasn't obvious where he was. He let out a little purring chirp noise when he noticed that they were talking about him. "I found him in the wilds, and he got really attached to me, like a baby bird or something. Now he's uh, my familiar, I guess." Was that the right word? Silver had read it in a magic book somewhere, but they weren't actually that good at magic stuff for being an elemental.

Fiera nodded along- it WAS great. She considered herself quite a skilled pachee breeder by now, and was proud of all of her stock. She selected her breedings very carefully, which was part of why she was so excited about this one. It was always a good idea to get new, fresh blood into one's lineages. "Ah well, he's a beautiful offspring- you should be proud!" She said politely, giving him a nod. She didn't have to be rude ALL the time, after all. She glanced up at the creature on Silver's shoulder, eyeing it carefully. "No, I can't say I've ever seen a paogon before." She had to admit, she was impressed- it wasn't often she saw a pet she had never heard of. "You must be quite close, then. I can't say I know what a familiar is, though." She said. It was true of course- magic was so foreign to her that she hadn't even heard of that before.

Silver wasn't really sure whether or not they should be 'proud' of how their Pachee turned out, but they accepted the compliment with a nod. It was possibly one of the first nice things that Fiera had said to them since they met. They would just have to show her more adorable, well trained creatures and they would be best friends in no time! Pounce was pretty well behaved, but it wasn't through any sort of rigorous training. Mostly he was just too lazy to get himself in trouble.
It wasn't a surprise to hear that she had never seen a Paogon before. Most people hadn't, and they had to explain it fairly often now that Quin was with them all of the time instead of just most of the time. They were a wild species, which meant that they were rare here in the city around the labs. One of the few lifeforms in the area not touched by the weird science and magic of that dreadful place. "They're pretty rare, I think," Silver suggested. "It means, ah, that we're bonded through magic." That was the easiest explanation, and it was actually a pretty accurate one. What exactly the bond entailed didn't really matter. Silver didn't know that much about magic, either, so they would probably not be able to explain it well regardless.

Fiera wasn’t exactly the “friend making” type, but Silver wasn’t completely insufferable, she guessed. She still had the feeling that there was more to them than they were letting on, but she could figure that out later. At least the pachee they had brought with them seemed better behaved than most of their pets. With any luck, that easy going nature would pass to his offspring as well. Fiera raised an eyebrow at Silver’s explanation of paogon and familiars, however. “Bonded through magic? Do uh, ALL paogon do that?” She said, suddenly rethinking her quest to find one. She couldn’t imagine why someone would tether themself like that to another living thing, to be reliant on them. Fiera loved her pets, that was for sure, but something of that level of intimacy seemed... well, unwise to say the least. She couldn’t really see the appeal.

"Wha? Oh, no," they shook their head for emphasis. "Quin and I have a special bond. Before that he was just a normal critter. Well as normal as he could possibly be, anyway," they laughed a little at their own joke. Quin was always a bit odd, but he wasn't too much trouble.
From the outside, it might seem like Silver just bonded with everything possible. They had Quin, a Draconic, and of course the ghostly fox Shijin that Fiera had met before all pulling on pieces of their soul. It was really no wonder that they were a little out of it most of the time. Maybe some day they could explain that to her in a way she would understand, but this was probably not that day.
Pounce rolled around and swiped his paw at Silver's pants leg. It was then that Silver realized that they had no idea whether or not their room was ready. Maybe Fiera would know. "Oh, maybe we should introduce these two, so they can get to know each other." That was what they were there for, right? Making friends was supposed to be secondary, but they had to admit that they wanted to do that, too.

"Oh, huh. It's nice that you like each other that much, then. Sounds like you did him a favor, plucking him out of the wild." She said, nodding. She couldn't say she entirely understood, though. That sort of magic just really wasn't her wheelhouse, so to speak, and the concept of giving up pieces of one's soul to another made her... uncomfortable. If she wasn't outright disgusted, that is. Not that it was strange, necessarily- Fiera just had a tendency to react to any form of intimacy with intense and immediate hostility. "That's probably a good idea." Fiera said as she picked up Coastal Town's Nightmare's pet carrier and put a hand on the door handle. "Let's get em in there before we do any introducing though- I don't want Coastal to go running off through the halls. Someone could trip on her." She said wryly, giving Silver a teasing look as she opened the door for them.

Silver felt strangely validated to hear what Fiera said about taking Quin in. They were lucky to have each other, that's for sure. This could only mean good things for their budding friendship. Silver couldn't help but to hide a subtle grin as they thought about it. As weird as their life and all of its soul bonds and unpredictable magic was, they liked it and wouldn't want it to change.
Quin watched Coastal's carrier closely as it was carried through the door and into the room. He was really curious about the bright pink parts of her he could see through the box. He really wanted to know what she was, and more importantly, if she wanted to play. He could tell, though, that Silver seemed very annoyed with him and that he should probably stay put for now. Occasionally, he was capable of behaving, if only for a little while.
"Yea... of course," Silver said. They smiled awkwardly like they understood the joke, but didn't comment on it. "C'mon buddy, time to get up and meet a lady." Silver picked up Pounce and carried him into the room. They set him gently on the floor and pulled the door closed behind them so that nobody could run out at the last second.
