In order to compete in the Show Ring, reply to this post to put on your show! Include your pets' image and stats in your first post, as well as any items they're wearing, will be used in your performance, or the pet was groomed with. - At the bottom of your first post, please note which participation prize pet you would like! -
The show ring or arena can look however you like, and it's safe to assume staff could procure some extra embellishments if needed for your performance, or special accommodations for critters that require it. Use any of your pets' many abilities to show off for points and votes from the crowd! Pets may use moves that they don't know on command in the show ring; there's ways to prompt that untrained COD to breathe fire, right?
At the bottom of your show ring posts, please make note of what abilities, moves, and tricks were displayed, and if they are used on command or not! Otherwise they will not count towards your score.

Level: 42 Loyalty: 49 Stamina: 7 Strength: 9 Resistance: 10 Dexterity: 7 Mentality: 2 Special Abilities: Physical Resistance, Lone Wolf, Hardy Moves: Constrict, Devour
Trained: Name (1), Stay (1), Constrict (3), Devour (4) Ashe had actually had something brought in for his performance. There was a large rock in the middle of the arena, put there when it was his turn to show. There was nothing special about it, though it was half as large as he was. With a nod to the hostess, Ashe walked out into the ring, calling for Mac to follow him. Macabre slithered along behind him, hood furled against his neck for now, though Ashe could see the little 'fingers' twitching, itching for something to happen. Once in the ring, Ashe stopped and faced the crowd. Mac came up behind him and rose onto his coils, his head passing Ashe, making the size difference all the more obvious. Most Salaves were much smaller than he; in this position, it was plain to see that Macabre could, if he wanted, swallow Ashe whole and barely bat an eye... "Ladies and gentlement! This is Macabre, my Bloodgorge Salaves. With a contest named Endurance, I suppose you might expect laps run, a pet dashing back and forth... But this Salaves, he has a different kind of endurance. A more physical kind."(Ashe is using Sever Bond for 4MP) (Starstorm female please)

And without further ado, Ashe gestured to the rock. To Mac, he gave the command, and the great serpent slithered over to the rock. He wound his body a few times around the rock, coils tightening. A python, while constricting, will squeeze and then pause; when the prey breaths, they tight more. When the prey breathes, they tighten even more. Until the prey stops breathing. However, this was a rock and not a prey animal inhaling and exhaling. But Macabre squeezed, held, and squeezed more nonetheless. At first, nothing seemed to happen, all remained still. Possibly someone in the crowd coughed, maybe someone laughed. And then a crack formed on the rock, followed by the sound. And more sound. Soon, the rock was starting to shatter, webs of cracks spreading across its surface. And then it exploded in a shower of rocks and dust, the rocks pummeling the serpent but bouncing harmlessly off his scales. Some of the rubble was more than enough to knock a human out, and the serpent simply slithered out. "Unharmed! He endured a rock slide, there!" Ashe announced, a tad more dramatic than need be.

Ashe picked up some of the rocks that fell and tossed them at Mac. He made sure to hit the middle, not the head, where his scales were probably thickest. They hit the blood-red colored mini shields and bounced off, harmlessly, no matter how hard Ashe threw. "These scales are hardened!" Ashe announced. "Your basic attacks won't hurt him! These rocks do nothing; this spear will do nothing." And just like that, Ashe had a spear with a steel tip, something he'd brought to demonstrate with. He picked a spot and jabbed at Macabre; the spear broke in half, it encountered so much resistance. "A thundergug could walk on him! And he would be fine, if a little flat!" He added the last part as a joke, earning a chuckle or two. He hoped the people were more intimidated by Mac, and not uninterested in his amazing Salaves. Intimidation, he liked. Mac slithered back to Ashe, and the man fed him a few rats, which he swallowed as a vulticus might inhale a piece of kibble.
"Thank you, everyone!" Ashe bowed, and led Mac out of the ring.

Stamina: 6 Strength: 8 Resistance: 5 Dexterity: 4 Mentality: 2 Special Abilities: Pack Instincts, Alpha, Hardy, Electrical Resistance Moves: Howl, Bite, Roar, Call Lightning Taught: Name, Come, Stay, No, Carry Rider, Carry Load, Go, Stop, Turn, Slow/Faster, Bite, Roar, Rend, Endurance, Empathetic Link They had been visiting the contest hall more and more often lately, and for the most part they were pretty successful. The last two contests they participated in netted them two ribbons, and one was even a first prize! It reminded them of a time long ago when the contest hall was new and creature shows were just beginning. This time around, they weren't so confident about their chances, however. They had a lot of creatures around that they could consider very cute, very beautiful, or even very magical, but they couldn't think of anyone immediately for this contest. Eventually they settled on Gen and came up with the idea to show off his ability to carry a rider and run around for a long time. That still sounded pretty uninspired, though, so they were not terribly certain they'd walk away with another ribbon this time. "Alright boy, just you and me," Silver pressed their forehead against Gen's for a moment. He didn't love big crowds of people, but they knew that he'd be awesome anyway. They would have to remember to give him lots of extra treats for the effort. Sometimes they worried that they took him for granted. Fiera hoped that Lincoln would impress. He was the image of endurance undoubtedly, with his strong, sturdy body and thick plates of armor. Still, he was up against some stiff competition today. The thundergug and slaves were his biggest competitors, though Fiera knew that she couldn't doubt Silver's wiles. With any luck though, she and Lincoln would be able to pull through... if he cooperated. "Come on Lincoln!" She said before trotting out onto the stage, dressed in a fine outfit that made her look somewhat like a matador, but... pinker. "Ladies and gentlemen, may I present- Lincoln!" She said, gesturing grandly to the lamadidron that was trotting along behind her. "Stay." She said quietly as he reached her, and he paused as Fiera walked around him. "Copper lamadidron! 600 pounds! And the toughest critter this side of the ocean!" She called out, patting his back. "Sit." She asked Lincoln and he lowered himself down and she lifted up his tail to show off his glittering back plates to the crowd.

A contest, huh... Aster had been in one before, but it had been so long ago that he didn't remember anything about the experience, and anyway, it had been a whole different ball game.
At the time, he'd been working with a creature he didn't know that well. One would think that this would be much easier since he was entering with Grunty this time, and the only companions he knew better than Grunty were Avander and Summer, right? But this whole set-up of 'endurance', and not just the work performance kind but resilience? What was he supposed to do, pelt his own beast with projectiles?
It had been hard to formulate a routine to show off Grunty's durability without verging into, well, straight up animal abuse. The poor guy could take it, but Aster--- not to mention the judges and audience--- probably couldn't. This wasn't the Pit, after all. People came here to see something else.

"And now, for a show of power!" She said, and held up a block of wood. "Ready, Lincoln?" She said. "Charge up!" Lincoln hunkered down, and static began crackling across his plates, building up around his body. Soon, tiny arcs of lightning were leaping between his plates, his tail, and the ground. Fiera left it for longer than usual, letting him build up one heck of a charge. "Look how long he can go for, ladies and gents! A true beast of stamina!" Then, she turned back to her pet. "Okay Lincoln... zap bite!" She said, and held up the piece of wood like a shield. He lunged forward and latched onto it, releasing all of the charge at once. Fiera closed her eyes against the massive flash of light that followed, and the smell of a campfire immediately drifted toward her nose. When she opened her eyes, the wood where Lincoln had bitten it was a charred husk, and Field was easily able to snap what was left of the log in half for the audience to see. An appreciative murmur and applause rippled through the crowd, and Fiera took her bow. "Everyone- Lincoln!" She said, gesturing to her pet one last time. That had gone far better than she could have hoped, and with any lucky... that would be enough.

Eventually he managed to throw something together, though he honestly didn't know if this would be any good. It had certainly given the showrunners a lot of hassle to put it together, though to their credit, they didn't complain. The whole show ring was filled with dirt for Aster's showcase, terraformed into a wide, oval-shaped track with several hills and inclines. Obstacles were placed at intervals on the latter half of the track, consisting of crates and log walls for Grunty to power through. And now, standing at the foot of it, was Aster and Grunty. Aster had spent time rigging Grunty up to the buggy behind him, filled with a full load of rocks.
Aster hadn't dressed up. He wouldn't have even for a fancy event, but in this case it would have been absolutely ridiculous to do it. He was coming here to show them a rough and tumble working 'Gug, so it would be counterintuitive if he didn't also look like someone who... well, someone who worked for a living.

He tried not to think too hard about the fact that there were people watching. Grunty, mercifully, genuinely didn't seem to notice or care. His eyes were fixated on the bundle of bamboo Aster was holding, and nothing else was on his mind.
"Alright," Aster said, ostensibly for the audience but in reality more for himself. "Let's get this show on the road."
He hoped up onto the back of the cart. "This is Grunty," he said, because some sort of introduction seemed to be necessary. "He... works for food." As he spoke, Aster flung out the bamboo, which was tied to the line of a fishing rod. It came to dangle just in front of Grunty, and the 'Gug's ears immediately perked up. That got a laugh from the crowd, though Aster didn't know how he felt about that; it was a little like strangers poking fun at a member of his family, and while he had a laugh at Grunty's simplicity sometimes too, it didn't feel quite the same.

Well, there was no sense worrying about that now. "Move off," Aster said. Grunty began walking, though even that was a feat of strength under the circumstances. Immediately he had to throw his weight against the harness to get the buggy moving too. For a moment it seemed like nothing was happening, but then the buggy budged an inch, and then another. Grunty's muscles strained, then relaxed as momentum kicked in, and he began pulling the cart down the track at a comfortable walking pace.
But this was a show, and the track had been set up to be a bit more dramatic. "Faster," Aster said. Grunty picked up the pace, moving into a jog. "Run," Aster urged, and Grunty sped up once again, into a proper run this time. And then they came to the first of the two small hills Aster had asked to be set up.
For the first, Aster kept Grunty running, though his pace inevitably slowed as he reached the uphill portion of the incline.

"Keep going, buddy. Keep running," Aster said. Grunty made a low rumble deep in his chest and threw his weight against the harness as hard as he could, until they crested the top of the hill. From there, he kept running, but Aster knew that when they hit the downhill slope, the cart would roll down faster too.
It was time to turn things up a notch. "Dash!" he said, casting the line out a little further. Grunty lunged for it, dragging the buggy forward in the process. Aster had to suppress a wince as it jostled over the track. They'd made it as even as they could, and gods knew the weight of the rocks was keeping it down, but it had been hastily thrown together, and it was dirt, not a paved road, so the presence of bumps were inevitable. They careened down the first hill and partway up the second on momentum alone.

"Run," Aster said, urging Grunty to pull them up the rest of the way. Once he crested the top, Aster said, "Whoa there... Whoa... Stop." Grunty slowed, then came to a halt at the top of the hill.
Hopping off the buggy, Aster unhitched it from Grunty's harness, feeding the 'Gug a treat. Grunty snapped it up hungrily, then looked to him for more. But this was only half the track done. He'd included the transition to give Grunty a well needed break to catch his breath. "Now that you're all warmed up," Aster said, turning to face the other half of the track, "let's show 'em what you can really do. Charge!"
Aster pointed at the first barrier, and Grunty sized it up, then swung his head and charged forward. For all of Grunty's faults, when he was charging, he really did look like a real proper Thundergug. Everything looked good right up until he crashed into the first barrier, which burst into pieces that rained down on him.

Apparently he hadn't been prepared for that. Grunty swung his head again, stamping back and forth as if trying to fight off the falling debris. Aster frowned, and was about to go to him to see if anything was amiss, but then something strange happened. The rocks in the buggy began clattering, and then, with a rumble, they burst from their resting place and shot towards Grunty, enclosing him in what Aster could only really describe as a... a second skin.
... Huh. Had he always been able to do that?
Quickly, Aster checked on him through their mental link. Grunty seemed a little worked up, but Aster didn't sense any pain or distress. On the contrary, he seemed ready to go for a change, so Aster wasted no more time in giving him the command again. "Charge, one more time!" he yelled.
Pawing the earth, Grunty gave a bellow, then crashed through all the remaining barriers in one go, hurtling through like a runaway train.

Each barrier exploded into splinters, but Grunty didn't even flinch at them now, protected as he was by his encasement of rocks. "Whoa... stop," Aster said after the last barrier had been broken through, and Grunty slowed to an eventual halt not far from where he'd started.
Aster ran up to him holding up the rest of the bamboo, and as soon as Grunty laid eyes on it, all the rocks fell away. Aster had to dodge some as he made his way up to the 'Gug. Boy, they'd have a real hell of a time cleaning this up.
... But that was someone else's problem. "Thanks for having us," he said to the crowd, and made as much eye contact with them as he could--- which was to say, not very much, but at least the effort was there--- before leading Grunty out of the ring and away to a place where they could catch their breath in private.
