Long had been a new purchase. Leafy had gotten him through a trade, one that she simply couldn’t pass up. She was eager to take her new friend out, but she hadn’t quite known where she should take him. Ultimately, she decided that she would take him to the quest board. He followed dutifully and Leafy suspected that he was a type of pet that didn’t mind hard work. She figured that they could pick up a job and hopefully bond while doing it. At the very least, Leafy needed Long to like her. She wanted to use him as an exploration companion. His abilities would prove to be useful out on expeditions. “Let’s pick out a quest and get started, shall we?” She smiled cheerfully at Long, glad to be out in the warm, spring weather. She scanned the board, looking over the various jobs for one that looked easy enough for her and Long to accomplish. (Long 0 1/5, 0 1/5)

She caught sight of a quest that appeared promising. It was simple, she was requested to locate a parasol shop and tend to the surrounding gardens. From the description, the garden appeared to have been ruined by the heavy rains that had plagued the weather forecast for the last week. Fixing up a garden should be a simple enough task. Leafy had plenty of experience in the gardens and a shop should theoretically be an easy environment to work in.
“Alright Long, our mission has been chosen!”
The Mosca regarded her with curiosity. The girl’s endless energy was intriguing to the calm creature. Leafy quickly memorized the directions to the shop and began to lead Long towards it. The shop was located in a quaint area. The shop was quiet and Leafy couldn’t spot any customers. She thought it a bit odd that nobody wanted to buy a parasol during the rainy season.

The garden was larger than expected and Leafy could see how badly it had been affected by flooding. Plants were washed away and would need replanting and soil was scattered across the lawn and would need replacing. Long did a quick check around the yard, looking for something that Leafy couldn’t quite determine. Danger perhaps? It would be a good idea for her to check for danger as well, but she wanted to get started on the task at hand.
“At least there’s some tools here I can use,” she remarked.
The job would take a fair amount of effort, but Leafy was confident that she could get it done in a reasonable amount of time. Long trotted back over, his scout mission completed. His knotted tail flicked back and forth and his attention remained alert. He settled down to watch her work. Leafy picked up a spade, intending to replant some flowers first.

There were plants that were washed away as well as fresh plants provided to her to relocate as she please. Long slunk closer to them, leaning in close to sniff the different flower choices. Leafy had grown to appreciate gardening. She had spent enough time out in her own to identify a variety of plants and know how to take care of them. She quickly replanted the tulips that had washed away in the rain, moving next to replant daffodils.
“Phew, do you think this looks okay?”
Leafy didn’t have much experience designing. When it came to her own garden, she mostly tended to plants that would be most useful to her. Long moved closer, investigating the work that she had done. He didn’t give her a verbal response, but he took the time to rub against the flowers that she had planted. Effectively, threatening to ruin her work, but she appreciated the sentiment.

Now that she had her pick of fresh plants to choose from. She had always been partial to lilies and there were a variety for her to choose from. She picked up a tiger lily, marveling at its bright orange colouring. She squinted as she scanned the garden, deciding on the perfect place to plant it. Long followed her, keeping his eyes fixed on the flower. Leafy suspected that he would thoroughly examine it once it was properly planted. Perhaps taking along a Mosca wasn’t the best idea. This one seemed fond of breaking the flowers in. She didn’t mind all that much, as long as she got paid in the end. She decided to go big for her next choice, grabbing a rose bush that would take her a bit longer to get situated. Immediately, Long pressed against her legs, trying to get a better view of the rosebush.

She held it delicately, not wanting to harm the plant during the process of replanting it. She leaned down and felt the soil, searching for an ideal spot. She settled on a secluded area that she could add additional plants to in order to complement the rosebush. She grabbed the spade and started digging, evening out a hole that was wide enough to accommodate the rosebush. When she placed the rosebush in the hole, Long quickly trotted over, peering intently at the roses. They were newly blossoming and wouldn't be in full bloom for a few more days.
Roses could be a little finicky. If they weren't able to survive the innocent prodding of a curious Mosca, they wouldn't survive much of anything. For now, she would use Long as a test for whether or not she had planted the rosebush well. If it was sturdy, him rubbing against it shouldn't matter much.

Long soon grew bored of the roses and decided to nudge Leafy until she returned back to her supplies and grabbed a new plant. He was a curious creature and if he were a person, Leafy imagined him to be rather studious. Perhaps pets could enjoy learning just as people could. It was a new concept to her, but the thought made her smile.
"Alright, this one is an azalea bush. We'll plant it near the rosebush, but not close enough for it to interfere with the development of the roses."
She wasn't certain what colour either bush would end up flowering, but she could only hope that they colours would match each other well enough. And if the didn't, well it wasn't her problem. Long followed eagerly, his eyes fixed on the azalea bush. If he had his way, she suspected he would have liked to taste test the plants in order to learn more.

Leafy judged the distance between the spots she aimed to plant the azalea bush and the spot where the roses were already planted. She used her feet as reference for spacing, before judging the distance to be adequate enough. Long followed her like a shadow. For some reason, Leafy didn't find his presence annoying. He knew how to follow her without getting in the way. She might have stepped on a clumsier pet, but Long knew the exact placement of her footsteps and danced away before she could step on him.
"I don't think I've really taken care of azaleas before, but hopefully they're hardy enough to survive here."
Any place that roses could thrive was likely one good enough for azaleas, right? The biggest threat to plants tended to be pests, but hopefully the owner had a creature that was fond of eating insects. That way the pests could be managed.

It took Leafy a few minutes to get the azalea bush situated. She had to be careful to pack the soil around it to be sturdy enough to protect the root's of the bush without being too tight to prevent further growth. She drew back once she was finished in order to admire her handiwork. Long dashed forward, his nose twitching as he investigated the new, flowery scent. He rubbed his mouth against the small branches, marking the bush as his. When he was finished, he moved past Leafy and went to check out her supplies.
"Be careful with that stuff. I don't think the owners will have given me anything poisonous to plant, but they might have accidentally given me something harmful!"
After all, if the shop owners weren't keen enough to fix their garden on their own, they might not be very knowledgeable about plants in the first place.

Though if someone didn't know a lot about plants, she doubted that a shop would sell them anything they didn't know how to handle. Leafy grabbed a few more standard, garden flowers. She could plant these in front of the bushes for extra style points. They were quick to plant and would likely cycle each summer with new seeds. Leafy was fond of wildflowers, but those thrived better in fields and she hadn't been provided with any to plant. Instead, she grabbed some rather boring pansies and daffodils and planted the bulbs within the soil. It would take them a bit to grow, but they should add a decent amount of colour to the garden.
"Now you better not dig these up!" She warned Long.
Luckily, the Mosca was disinterested in the flowers. He much preferred the bushes that she had already planted and his attention was focused squarely on them.
