Apartment hunting wasn’t something that had been on Fanged’s list, but her Rakai-Sarane, Imogen, had demanded it. The woman had been perfectly fine in her current place. Apparently, Imogen had higher standards. She found herself now, looking for a new place that was close by to where she was currently located. She wasn’t sure if she had any true intentions of moving, but she would humour her pet for now. “This is the next place on our list. Close by to where we currently live, but it’s a nicer building than where we are now. Hopefully this landlord won’t just up and disappear on us.” Fanged liked the location. She didn’t think she stood out too much on these streets. Rent was cheap and people were less inclined to question her motives. She approached the building, noting the Available to Rent sign located on the front door. Grabbing a unit should still be possible. She carried Imogen with her. After all, whether or not she acquired this place was all dependent on the whims of the small creature. The building appeared quiet in the sense that there didn’t appear to be many people around. Paranoia forced her to remain alert, but instinct told her she should be safe for now. She entered through the front door noting that the door wasn’t locked. The landlord should be expecting her and perhaps had left the door unlocked for her to enter. Otherwise, that would be a point against this place’s safety rating. She wasn’t quite sure what to do next. For now her only option would be to wait for someone to fetch her and show her the unit.

Coming home from a shopping trip was always an... ordeal. Linyü went through groceries pretty quickly, so he had to either shop often or buy a lot at a time, and unfortunately for him, it had been a while since he'd last had the opportunity to go. The contents of their fridge were becoming so dire that his Enileaf had made a point of leaving a dead mouse on the counter as a somewhat passive aggressive reminder. Three bags in each hand, two on his arms, and one held up by both hands so he could hardly see what was in front of him. This was the state in which he painstakingly pushed open the front door of the building. Just a little further... Just past the front desk, then into the stairwell, then up the stairs and down the hall and make a left, and he'd be in the home stretch...

Fanged felt awkward waiting for someone to come get her. She didn’t have much to occupy her time. She hadn’t really expected this showing to take all that long. Had she been forgotten about? Normally, she didn’t mind waiting. However, she was feeling antsy being in an unfamiliar place and she was a bit concerned with keeping Imogen out of trouble.
“Shouldn’t be long now. Unless they have forgotten and then I’ll just be waiting here for the rest of eternity. I think if 15 minutes pass, legally you’re allowed to leave.” The last comment was said in jest, reminiscent of her days in formal education.
Imogen had been waiting patiently, but now she began to squirm. The Rakai-Sarane wasn’t particularly fond of being held, but she would briefly make exceptions when her safety was at stake. The baby creature suddenly froze. She pricked her ears forward as an unexpected sound caught her attention. Had the landlord finally arrived? Fanged felt the tension leave her body. The last thing she needed was to work herself up into an anxiety attack simply because she had been waiting too long.

The front doors of the building were double, and there was no lock. It was old enough, or maybe the landlady herself was old enough, that she wasn't worried about people coming into the lobby during the day, even when she wasn't in. She'd mentioned something about the hassle of keeping track of that many keys when she had given him the one to his apartment, waving off anything he might have said with an impatient hand.
Moments like this, Linyü was glad for it. It meant he didn't have to fumble with a key as he entered. He eased himself past the door, and had gotten maybe three steps across the lobby before he tripped on the edge of the huge rug that carpeted the room.
He went down with a startled yelp, and everything in his arms went spilling across the floor. The sound of glass shattering got him right to his feet, fretting over the casualties among his groceries. "Oh no, please don't be the soy sauce," he said in dismay, and began picking up whatever came to hand--- an orange, a head of cabbage and, yes, a carton of ruined eggs. Linyü peered at them to see if any could be salvaged, then groaned. It really wasn't his day today...

Fanged heard the steady sound of footsteps as a person entered the building. Imogen tensed and the woman made sure to keep a secure hold of her pet. Her first impression of the individual that walked through the front door was that they were certainly not the landlady she was expecting. Their arms were full of groceries, obscuring their face from this angle and acting as a clear indicator that this was a resident.
Before she could greet the newcomer, he tripped and both the person and the groceries went tumbling to the ground. A burst of adrenaline coursed through her veins at the unexpected and potentially serious event. Her mind was quick to inform her that a great deal of deaths were caused by accidentally hitting one’s head. She quickly stepped closer, moving Imogen so that the Rakai-Sarane was tucked under her right arm.
“Oh my goodness, are you alright? You didn’t hit your head, did you?” The words came tumbling out, worry making her speak rather rapidly.
She could see the person clearly now. He was a little on the skinny side, but that made him less of a threat to her. Inwardly, she scolded herself for thinking in such a manner. There was no need to be afraid in a residence like this one. It was unassuming and any truly dangerous person would likely choose swankier accommodations.

"Ah!" Linyü, preoccupied as he was with his groceries, startled when someone's voice sounded beside him. He turned around, eyes wide, only to break into an embarrassed laugh when he registered her words. It was a young woman, one that he didn't know. At least, he was pretty sure he didn't, anyway. One of the neighbors...?
"No no, I'm fine, I just," he said, motioning to the assortment of food items still scattered across the floor. "... I guess I should've watched my step, huh? I didn't want to make two trips... Ah, I'm such an idiot..." His expression brightened when he saw a bottle of dark liquid, still intact, a few feet away. The soy sauce had, against all odds, survived the fall.
Working quickly, he began to stuff anything that came to hand back into the now empty bags. "I'm so sorry you had to see that," he said. "Do you live here? I don't think we've met, but I'm Linyü."
