That Pale Hind lv 23 To be honest, she didn't fully approve of the idea. Of the subtle whine of indecision as the other end of the chain walked away. She'd somehow managed to take on a trained hen, a young drake and perhaps she was in season, perhaps not. If she was in season, she might take the young drake as a mate. Because Caiman would refuse her, Dune would... not really understand and Scho might eat her. [Why... why leaving.] she gave another very subtle whine, starting to tug towards that direction, the metal chain around her neck shifting as the chain moved. [Come back...] "I'm sorry." The hen kneaded the ground with her claws, keeping her tail relatively close. "Do you recognize my scent?" What question. What a question. The hen slowly turned her head and did what raptors do for the sniffing of others. She smelled heavily of drakes. [no] She'd only torn apart young unbridled drakes of unnote, so these smells were unfamiliar. very unfamiliar. "I have two tournament veteran drakes. And they are... not up to snuff." 1

What is a snuff, the hen wondered. She blinked at the short bird smelling one. "I was informed you were taught on how to be mean." [Mean...No. I am not mean.] she stood a bit taller then the henling feathered one, glowering downwards. [ I am not pushed around, by anything. and not by you.] Well this went off to a good start. A bad start for the pale brown hen, who had lost track of her quarry, left with a henling who had no capability of pushing her about. Of course not, she was... SMALL. And now distracted as what looked like lunch hurried up to her, clamped its hooves on her and started baahing into her ear. She seemed to be alarmed by this, and the first instinct of the hen was to leer at the lunch, showing her teeth. Another baaaah of alarm, but it was not something she understood. 'MY GAAAAARDEN. PLEASE STOP THE NYSSA DEARIE' she baaahed. Alright, alright, just let go! 2

[What is a nyssa] the hen asked as she managed to scare the lunch away with a snap of her jaws. the henling sighed, running her clawless paw through her raised scales. [ Is it fightable?] 'Its a giant tree. Walks about and hits things when upset. This one... is bigger then most, from what I've seen. And back taking the same goat to a bad place' she explained, exhaling through her flat snout in a gap of flat teeth. Why were these henlings and drakelings so... flat and defenseless and able to push them around? Food. Thats why. 'I wouldn't fight it myself but... I wonder what that goat added to the garden now.' As the lunch hurried away, there was a lingering scent left on the henling that the hen picked up. She leaned in, and nosed her arm away from the henling's head, sniffing it. Her eyes... dialated. She suddenly reared back and turned sharply to see the lunch was gone. [Egg thief] 3

'What, egg thief?' Ridelys couldn't imagine that old ungulate putting eggs in her garden. The resulting beasts would eat her. Or deem her a chew toy. It would be unintentional murder by beast. Then she recalled one piece of information. Hens were supposedly coming into season, and became extremely broody about that time. And eggcentric. Thankfully, her own young queen hadn't done a round of broodiness yet. She had little doubt Caiman could control her but... that wasn't a smart idea. The hen lunged in the direction of where the goat hurried away. 'Wait wait wait, the garden is in the other direction.' She paused, then looked at the theron. Gold eyes stared into hers. Could tell that she wasn't easily spooked off, but for all the sarane Ridelys had in her own brood, none of them were inately scary. [Lead then, henling. then take me home.] the hen insisted, bristling her tiny spines just a bit. They were so small it was insignificant. 4

How was she supposed to explain that this wasn't going to be how it ended? The hen clearly had no interest in listening, now driven by her instincts and wanting to find and kill the egg thief. Probably. {What did you do this time} and again, she wasn't prepared for the intrusion of her partner in her mind. [ I hate it when you do that.] she told him through the ribbon. An amused feeling. He enjoyed this, didn't he. [ I may or may not... have three new additions to our family when I return...] She showed him mental imagery of hen, of drake, of egg. At least that was the deal. A hiss... and the connection dropped off. He didn't care for that. Not even if there was a strong new hen to teach him a lesson in civility? She had to pay attention on where the hen was literally dragging her along for. Occasionally shouting out where they had to turn. Think big dog walking short owner. That's about the best way to describe this. 5 24/1

"Calm-down-you!" Walking her sarane wasn't something Ridelys did; she let them primarily do as they please. On a leash, on a chain? Not something dragons should endure. But she didn't tell that to the hen's owner of previous. Only one drake actually remained chained up, and that was because he was very likely of hurting himself with getting too rambunctious. Or her. Sorry Scho, she'd have some 'playmates' sooner then later. Right now, trying not to get her arm yanked out of the socket by the hen. "Wrong-direction!" She had to dig in her heels and pull as hard as she could to the lef-OW. Her yelp on being hauled in another direction did not help the sharp pains that came from her elbows. Forget sockets, lets talk about elbows instead. The pale brown wasn't having any of this stupidity of wailing henling. She glanced back on the other end of the chain and saw the henling favoring her front legs. 6

[What is wrong with you now.] she sneered, pausing only briefly at the sight. [ I will find this egg thief and tear them down.] 'Very nice, I need to be able to use my arms though....' she sounded to be in pain now. 'All that pulling I think... has pulled something.' Her elbows didn't just ache, they radiated. Ow. She'd feel this for the next few days. Not as bad as having half your leg shluffed off against a stone wall, she knew how that felt. That scar had scaled over though. The hen wasn't going to wait on her. She started forward again, but not nearly as fast. This time at least keeping an ear for directional pulls but clearly the henling wasn'g going to be any help now. The garden on the edge of the mansion property clearly had been entered. Half the fence flattened into the dirt. ...How big was this beast? Bigger then she was. And the hen wasn't exactly small for her own kind. At least measuring up to the other brown hen in her home. 7

No hen (or drake) could flatten a fence down in that amount at once. Crash through? Yes. Flatten a whole portion that deep? No. She wasn't afraid though. Trees weren't scary. They were for bringing down. Not to mention, for shade. She liked shade. "This... isn't good." Ridelys may or may not have any nyssa of her own, of not nearly this size. It was asleep the last time she and Nimbus had encountered it, sleeping away with those crystals in its grip. "That tree's awake this time." {Are you afraid...} the hen couldnt' believe this. What sort of coward was this henling? {If you are too hatchling, you can leave and bring someone else back. Someone who can burn the tree.} Burn.... oh how interesting. Must be a mage of sort that she'd met. Or eating the magic and becoming what a golem could become. WHich reminded her... she did have some golems who needed an outing. 8

"Just because I'm not a mage does not mean I am useless" Ridelys retorted, no longer holding the other hend of the chain. It lay quiet on the ground while the hen seemed to be observing the fence. At least she wasn't like a drake, rushing for a fight. {Squishy humans should stay behind and let the tree flatten them. My brood is very large.} she sounded kind of proud of that, if the theron had any inclanation of the hen's tone. She had been called Pale, but she had a longer, more official name. But Ridelys wasn't an idiot. She wasn't eager on being pushed about by a brand new creature who she could hold a conversation, even if it was full of barbs. "If you are so strong, confront that tree and prove to me you are as strong as I was told about." she responded. It was a bit of a jibe. More to provoke the hen into going into the garden first. But she hadn't? or had she. 9

The henling's sharp words that Pale could clearly understand as she made the same growls and hisses that her own kind made... kind of hurt. The seed planted in the back of her head mentally, the hen walked over the flattened fence, the wood sinking lower into the ground under her weight. She wasn't a fat hen, far from it. Not big either, she was kind of small in terms of being up to terms with the more brutal of the brown hens that roamed the area. It was just mean to say. She was mean. Not intimidating, just growlily mean. Something creaked ahead, and the crash of pottery. Or just crashes of something more fragile. Not that sarane knew what pottery was. The egg thief was this way. She couldn't smell eggs, but could smell something else. Something pungent and sharp, like bad prey feed. Ew. A growl boiled in her throat. 10 25/2
