Morgan wasn't sure if what they were doing today was such a good plan. Or really, whether or not their project was a good idea at all. The setup had taken forever, just trying to find someone that was looking to 'get out of' sarane was a difficult task altogether, especially when they went back into season. However, the human was quite surprised when they got an answer to their add, and it was someone they already knew. Apparently the jackalope had been burned one too many times by the pit, and wanted to take care of his four adult sarane and find homes for the offspring- but he had no idea who to sell them to in order to make sure they were taken care of. Apparently Morgan having killed Waar was not enough to convince him that Morgan wasn't a good pick. The human now had one of them with them on this trip. [1]

Now, they had a tiny sarane hen on a leash- that would probably be chewing on the leash if not for the bone in her mouth. The human had been sick the first day that they picked up the diminutive rugrats along with all of their papers and various care items. They were a lovely group, sure, but they hadn't expected for the little brats to remind them of Waar as a chick. Needless to say that didn't sit well with them at first. However, they felt that the earlier they started with them, the quicker they could rip that particular band-aid off. Even if it was probably a bad idea all the way around. The minuscule hen was pleased as punch as they made their way to somewhere, anywhere really. She was practically prancing, Morgan noted. What an arrogant little creature! They'd never had a hen before, and wasn't sure what to think of this one. Was this abnormal? [2]

It wasn't uncommon for Morgan to bring creatures to the board that were not good matches for what they would actually be doing. A few different situations in the past the human had wound up having to make a swap in the middle of a quest. Morgan figured that today might be one of those days as Impi pranced with her little bone. The bone had been a bit of a compromise, because the little beast hadn't quite yet learned not to chew on literally everything, and that included the human's rather unfortunate pants that they had chosen for the outing at first. Of course, the loss of the tailored pair of pants wasn't worrisome, but the idea that the hen would probably do it again if allowed to do so certainly gave them pause. That had to be nipped in the bud as soon as possible, or more pairs of trousers would be forfeit. [3]

The quest board was absolutely buzzing on this lovely first day of the week. Morgan had been hoping to get here on a slow day, but they had not quite puzzled out whether or not a slow day actually existed, let alone which one that it would be. The human stayed back for a moment, simply watching, before deciding to scoop up the petite sarane and move into the group. The group was much thicker than they were used to. Soon, the blond individual found out why, and it angered them. There was a rather gawkish looking individual orating to the crowd from a position clearly in front of the quest board. Exactly why didn't the individual stand out of the way? Morgan's facial expression was unreadable, but clearly their jaw was clenched. They didn't even notice the tiny hen as she tried to scrabble for purchase. At least her nails had been clipped! [4]

Morgan was not a big fan of crowds. Even moreso did they dislike most orators. However, it was quite obvious to them that they would be unable to succeed in getting to the board, even if they rudely burst through the crowd. That would not be ideal, even if it were not for the fact that Morgan was starting to be recognized everywhere they went. That was an unfortunate side effect of being the lead scientist for WELP Corp. The human decided to find a rather inconspicuous place where they could hear the orator while having the least odds of being spotted and pestered by someone that didn't know what they were talking about in the slightest or asking a billion and one questions about inventions that weren't quite done yet. The sarane chick, however, was making this plotted course of action incredibly difficult. Morgan shifted the creature over in their arms, pinning her a bit without hurting her. [5]

Impi was not happy with the situation. Didn't this individual know who she was?! She was the daughter of a drake of quite large stature (if not a lazy one that had allowed her to walk all over him) and granddaughter of a hen that even she was quite nervous to be around. Impi wanted to be JUST LIKE HER. However, she was in quite the undignified position at the moment. Who did this prey creature think it was? Morgan had perhaps bitten off more than they could chew in one sitting with this little hen. Already, her wings were starting to get broad... She was like Waar, wasn't she? Just the idea sent Morgan's mind free-wheeling and made their throat clench as they found a good spot to listen to the orator. Something about bugs? They strained to listen, and then finally the crowd quieted down enough for the individual to speak. [6]

It didn't take long for the individual to get to the meat of the concern of that day. Apparently they were looking for people, a group of enormous proportions, to help in the search for some kind of creature. The human was vastly uninterested in this, at first, but soon enough they grew curious. This sounded quite familiar? The hen wasn't struggling as much anymore, and instead seemed to have found solace in pouting and chewing her bone with increased vigor. The human looked down at her with a smirk. That was one point for the humanoid, and zero for the rude imp. The human wasn't unprepared and scattered enough to not make sure that her sickle-like claws were trimmed. That had resulted in a much better situation for the human on today's outing than it would have been otherwise. The human was distracted by this for just long enough to be confused when they heard the term 'glowmoth'. [7]

Morgan knew that word. Of course the glowmoths came back around every year around this time, and they were mostly an annoyance. So many of them filled Morgan's garden every year that it nigh made it impossible to obtain the desired produce, so they mostly avoided the garden during the warm summer months. However, they were a little shocked to hear that someone actually wanted to study them! That would take some pondering later. They almost forgot how inconvenienced they were by this entire spiel. Suddenly, the little hen kicked at them, and they had to wrangle her back into submission. What a troublesome little creature! Her brother would probably be just as bad, and the human wasn't looking forward to it in the slightest. Soon, the group of people dispersed, most of them with slips in their hands, and some with flyers about the glowmoths. The human took a moment to make sure that Impi was properly held. [8]

Morgan wasted no time stepping up to the individual to give them a piece of their mind- but was quickly sent away with a flyer and a warning not to let their sarane hatchling eat all of the glowmoths. Did they not know who Morgan WAS? The irony of the situation from earlier, where they had hoped that no one would recognize them, was forgotten at the human flushed and gave the quest giver a rather 'special' hand signal. At this, the human took a moment to shift the peachy-colored sarane chick and look at the flyer itself. They were offering a special prize of some kind, and also some quest points. They spared at quick look across the way and squinted at the quest board (it was time to get their new prescription, they realized) and found with a start that there were no more quest slips on the board. With a heaving sigh, Morgan decided that they would cut their losses, and look for the dumb glowmoths too. They rolled their eyes, unable to completely resist the urge despite the fact that it was a superfluous act, and then made sure for a second time that the area had cleared out. They clutched the flyer in one hand, proof of the fact that they were to take on this quest, and then sat the hen down on the ground now that she couldn't cause too much trouble for anyone else. The hen would probably figure out a way to make Morgan wrong on that regard, but for now the coast appeared to be crystal clear. The hen pranced with the bone in her mouth as Morgan decided that they would head home first, to grab supplies (of which they had plenty) and then they would make their way to the place where the others would be gathered. Morgan was totally ecstatic for this wonderful group project they would be participating in! Or rather, they hoped that the sarcasm, even in their mind, would ring out across to Seimei, who they knew was a little far away for the link to actually work out. The human hadn't had much time to work with anything recently, and here they had decided to take on another project- one of immense scale. Perhaps Morgan was actually a little off the wall since they had swallowed the chaos node. Their life had taken so many weird turns since that they weren't sure they were even in the same dimension as they had been when their life had began. It was enough to make their head swim. However, Impi and the human managed to make their way home, and Impi even caused minimal damage as the human collected a small amount of items that would make catching said glowmoths much simpler a task. After making the quick stop home, the pair left quite quickly. Impi seemed pleased as punch now, not nearly as frustrated as she had been when Morgan was holding her too closely. Perhaps it was the fact that they were quite simple. The human was never quite used to 'simple'. Sarane were a bit smarter than Wiurn, perhaps as smart as the average vulticus. That was both good and bad. Morgan was much more used to dealing with creatures that could outsmart them in a rather human-like, or extra-human way. That made it all the more embarrassing when a mere animal learned to outsmart them. They were sure that Impi had lots of tricks in that little skull of hers. Baby Sarane were sure ugly, weren't they? Morgan thought of this on the way to the one big park in town that wasn't allowed to have things trained at it. [12]

Apparently this park was a 'conservation area' of some kind, so hardly anyone went there with their creatures. However, they were allowing this today, and Morgan figured that having brought Impi wasn't quite as bad a plot as they were certain that it might have been otherwise. She was small, and a bit of a butt, but she wasn't going to cause too much ecological trouble with Morgan watching her like a hawk. A larger or more intelligent creature might cause issues, however. The human decided that today might not go as horridly as first expected upon deciding to do this, and they made their way to the conservation area with minimal difficulty out of the bone-crunching hen. They could already see that clearly it would cost them a fortune just to keep this particular hen in bones. Ah well, there were plenty to be had. Live-feeding Waar had seen to that. [13]

There was another sizeable group of people standing around the front of the conservation area. A goodly portion of them had bug nets, and some of them had cages. Morgan had brought their own equipment, and figured that it would be simple enough with their already excellent pocket-pet catching equipment to capture glowmoths. Impi was by far the smallest creature that had been brought from the looks of it, which made Morgan inwardly groan. People were going to trample this conservation ground, absolutely trample it. What was the purpose of doing this if the area was going to be ruined? They were almost relieved when a few people got sent home due to bringing animals that did the most ecological damage, and only a few with creatures adult cave vulticus-sized or smaller were allowed in. The human wasn't sure why they even cared so much. It wasn't their business in the slightest. [14]

The human walked through, and was allowed, though people eyed the puny hen warily. Sarane were not well known for being well behaved, and this one was quite obviously too young to have been well trained. Morgan assured them with a rather stern looking gaze and an eyeroll that practically screamed 'who cares' at them as they moved in. Most of the group went in pairs of humans with their animals in about the same direction. Morgan had seen glowmoths before, however, in their own garden, so they weren't quite as random in their search. They knew what they liked. The human lead Impi (still on the leash and still munching the bone) towards a clearing that they knew would be overcast by the late evening long shadows. Glowmoths glowed for a reason. They were nocturnal breeders, and the human knew it was their best chance to find as many as possible and maybe get this over with. [15]
