(Takes place at Nerius' house.)
The room was, technically, a basement, but where most people stored unused junk, Nerius' basement had been converted to serve as a magical lab. It was surprisingly cozy, despite the stone construction. The rugs probably helped, as did the scattering of soft chairs and couch. But those things were rather mundane, what was probably most notable were the shelves that covered most the walls. They were covered in all manor of things, mostly magic related; many, many books, vials and bottles filled with all sorts of ingredients and liquids, a fossil, and a large crystal ball.
There were also a series of locked display cases, which appeared to hold more valuable items. The magical crystals were the most recognizable, but there was also a circlet, a snowflake shaped staff, and a dark colored die with constellations on it. There was plenty of workspace as well, there were multiple desks, with a variety of items, including alchemy equipment, and more stacks of books.
One desk was relatively clear however, save for an odd item, roughly the size of a large book, made of grey stone, and studded with gems. For someone with a sensitivity to magic, it would be clear it was some sort of arcane relic. This was also the only part of the room that was brightly lit, the rest of the room had a much softer cast. It was at this desk that Nerius was working, and attempting to figure out what exactly this relic did. It didn't belong to him, rather he'd been hired to figure out what it did, and how to use it.
It contained some manor of earth magic, that much he'd already sensed that in the flow of the magic. But now he was on to the less mystical part of study, translating the runes, and looking through books for similar patterns. Though perhaps not as exciting as magical experimentation, research wasn't a chore, and Nerius looked perfectly comfortable curled up in a well stuffed chair. He was dressed somewhat more lightly than usual, thanks to the weather, though the room was quite comfortable, without his usual coat, and shorter sleeves that showed off the crackling scar up his right arm. The book he held was somewhat interesting, at least, with glowing runes scrawled across the cover.
