Ashe had been here before. He loved this place, loved the magic and the sacrifice and the power. His very blood vibrated with it and sent a shiver down his spine. The pictures depicted on the walls, the splatters of blood on the ground, everything told a story of someone's search for power. And Ashe knew most of these people must have succeeded, because he knew a few people in town that had nodes now and were dabbling in magic. They had to have gotten them here, after all. And there were far more people with success stories than there were with fear, or scars, or whatever happened to your soul if you failed. Ashe didn't know. He didnt want to ever have to find out. He touched the magical crystals in his pocket, making sure they were all there, all accounted for. He quietly ran his nimble finger over them, each, making sure. He wouldn't want this day ruined.

As he approached the alter, slowly making his way up the steps, he had time to think. Think about the important things, the irreplaceable things, such as his own soul. He knew that it took a portion of him, his essence, his energy, to bind the magic from the crystals into the stone to make a node in the first place. And if he tried too often he could rip himself apart in the most disturbing of ways. But what else weighed on his soul? What else ate away at it? Did his bond with Inyala affect anything? Did his bond with Santiago? Ashe didn't feel any different, and he'd done this multiple times already. If that was the case… would he dare try to do this a second time within a year? His feet found themselves moving, hardly affected by their master's thoughts. Good thing, too, because Ashe was certainly not paying any attention to where he was going at this rate. His pulse raced as he got closer, and his mind stopped its wandering.

He was without Inyala today. Part of himself was missing and he felt her absence like a missing limb, though he didn't want to risk her in a place like this. If something were to go wrong - which it wouldn't, but if it did - he didn't want her around to take any damage from it. He knew she'd feel it if he died, but he could only hope that she would forgive him when he was revived. So he had left her outside of this place, a good distance away too. She had protested, but knew Aahe had a sacred duty to himself that she wouldn't interfere with. And now here he was, at the alter. Somehow, it felt right that it was just him alone with these Speakers. He hardly noticed them; he had been here often enough, and also he was caught up in the act of what he was doing. That was how it should be, right? He should focus his mind, his energy, on his task at hand and not allow anything to distract him. They were probably just there to observe, anyway.

Ashe reached the alter and took a few moments to, carefully, set out the ingredients. Namely, the crystals. He spaced them out evenly and laid the mind crystal in the center. He held the berry in his hand until the crystals were all down, then he took a deep breath, preparing for what would come next. Once he started, there would be no pausing, no stopping. He'd have to plow on through. He didn't know how long the effects of the berry would last and he didn't want to hesitate for too long. So he closed his eyes, meditating for a moment, trying to cool down his excitement so he wouldn't ruin anything in his haste. Then he popped the berry cluster into his mouth, feeling the sweet and bitter tastes mingle on his tongue, and swallowed it. With the berry inside, filling him with warm confidence, Ashe picked up the ceremonial knife and held out his hand. There, he did hesitate; Where to cut? A lot of people did palm, but...

As Ashe glanced down at his arm, he saw the scars left from the other times he had been here. He decided to add to the display, and cut next to the last mark, pressing hard enough that blood welled up, but not too deep to cause any real damage. Blood dripped down his arm to his elbow and he quickly moved his arm out over the items assembled, setting the special blade down to the side. A drop for each of the chaos crystals - he watched as the droplet landed, made a small splatter pattern, and seemed to almost be absorbed into the crystal itself - and them one for the prismatic crystal. If he wasn't mistaken, that one seemed to glow even brighter than the rest. And then a drop fro the mind crystal, which didn't have as much of a magical special effect going on, but was essential nonetheless. Once all the items had drops of Ashe's own lifeblood on them, he knelt before the alter, before the speakers, and let the pain ripple through him until it send him into a blissful oblivion. No fear, no apprehension, just confidence and barely contained excitement. The thrill of sacrifice for a worthy result!
