Sevyrn had plenty of time to work with the mare, and she was happy to take her time - she wasn't about to rush such a long-time friend with such a monumentous task, after all. She worked slowly and calming, taking as much time as needed to calm the creature and quell her worries. Sevyrn would never allow anything bad to happen to Disceva, and most definitely would not be going out of her way to bring harm to the mare. For someone not used to carrying weight on her back, that was not a given, however. Perhaps Sevyrn should have started with some weight in her saddlebags to get her used to a non-living load before hopping up herself... she hadn't planned to train Disceva for that, though - not right now, at least.
The mare did slowly become more and more comfortable, and Sevyrn pushed her limits each time that she hopped up.

"You are doing so good, Disceva," Sevyrn said to the mare as she held on to the reins with one hand and stroked her fingers through the equillion's mane with the other. Her feet were in the stirrups, her weight centered atop the equine's back - and the pure was doing amazingly. The trust between the pair made this task easier than it otherwise would have been, but it seemed that they had gotten to a good point. Disceva was relatively comfortable and hadn't once attempted to buck the girl off of her back - why would she? As strange as this was, that was her girl... it was just strange what she was trying to do.
Sevyrn waited the moment out to give the mare more time to adjust. If she didn't show that nervousness that she had before, then Sevyrn figured that she was ready to start trying to move around. "What a good girl," Sev repeated again as she felt comfortable moving on to the next step.

Onward! With Disceva comfortable carrying her weight around, it was time to start the movement part. Sevyrn wasn't too worried about direction just yet - 'stop' and 'go' were going to be the two priorities very first. Once Sevyrn could trust her to reliably listen to those commands they could work on steering and speed, and once those were done they could put bridle motions and tugs to voice commands... it was a long list of 'and thens' that Sevyrn had to work on now, but the hardest part was simply getting Disceva to let her ride her, and that was already in the past.
"Go," Sevyrn urged pointing forward with one hand while she gently dug the back of her right heel in to the mare's back. She repeated that until she was able to get the mare to start walking, at which point she waited until they had moved a small distance at which point she dug the opposite heel in and told her to stop.

Being ridden around was much more difficult than just coming when called - Disceva needed a lot of practice, but luckily they had all day to figure this out. Sevyrn trusted the mare not to spook or randomly bolt, so both of the pair were in safe hands, and trust between them was essential for this whole debacle to go over well. Go then stop, then go then stop. Disceva did not understand why Sevyrn was putting pressure, or why the girl was pulling her neck back just slightly when she said 'stop'. She seemed to get some really nice scratches on the neck when she did certain things, though.
After a while Sevyrn stilled the mare, and then hopped down off of her back. D wasn't using to carrying a rider for long periods yet, and she didn't want to leave the mare sore and overworked. Break time was good, and meant that Disceva had a chance to steal a carrot.
