Either she was here non-stop, or she hadn't shown up for what felt like years. It's what happened every single time that Sevyrn made her way to the mines, though for the first time in... ever she had shown up lacking the one creature that had been at her side every single time that she had visited previously - Bez. For some reason she just hadn't taken the ghaenelt along with her this time, and she hoped that she wouldn't regret that decision. She still had her tools and she still had some company, though. It was only a couple trips ago that she had first come across a hematite gem wyrm while in the tunnels, and ever since then he(?) had been a companion in the mines. Aptly named Hemi, not the most creative name she knew, the wyrm seemed to get excited in anticipation as the underground tunnels in which he had once lived came closer. 1 (Hemi - 5)

Was she really ready for this? It had been ages since the accident had happened, and she hadn't ended up hurt anyways, but Sevyrn always found herself anxious every time that she approached the entrance to the mines. She knew that it was just residual anxiety, that she had been okay and would continue to be, but... well, Bez had been who warned her about the impending collapse. Bez had been who was at her side during the several visits since. Maybe it was a bad idea not to bring him along?
She had to get over it, though. She had loved the mines before, and she had continued do every time that she had visited since. It would be fun - she'd find something shiny to take home and add to her collection, or maybe come across another wyrm hiding in the tunnels. Who knew?
The young woman shrugged her shoulders to push the backpack containing her supplies in to a more comfortable position, and then dared to daunt through the entrance.

Damp dirt - that's what this place always seemed to smell like. Dirt and rocks and just a hint of fungus that was no doubt growing in the cool, moist soil around the entrance. Immediately it was... homey. She loved this place, after all.
"Alright, come on," she said to the wyrm as she moved her head to signal Hemi forward. It was almost as soon as the pair had entered that the wyrm seemed to want to slither off - in search of it's old home, already on the track of something interesting? Who knew. Sevyrn was most definitely hoping that he was leading her towards something of interest, though. The workshop might be closed down right now, but the more shinies that she found before it re-opened, the more stuff that she would be able to work on. Sure, she didn't actually know how to do very much with the workshop, but that was a yet.

Sevyrn didn't wander too long before she paused to pull her backpack from her shoulders and pull out two handy dandy pieces of equipment - her hard hat and her flashlight. She wouldn't get much farther in to the mines without a light to illuminate the way, and the hard hat was for safety. The last thing that she needed was to get her skull pelted with little rocks, after all. It seemed that she had paused just long for Hemi to realize that the soft echo of footsteps had ceased, because as she threw her bag back over her shoulders the hematite wyrm had started to slither back towards her.
"It's okay, go on - find something nice Hem," Sevyrn urged, encouraging the wyrm to take the lead and find somewhere nice to set up and get to work. Hemi did not seem to need much encouragement, though - she'd barely got the word it's out of her mouth before he had already turned and headed back on his path.

It took about fifteen minutes before the pair wandered in to an open cavern - not too big, but more than enough space to move around and be as comfortable as possible. Sevyrn liked the location as it had the space she needed and didn't seem to be too far from the entrance when it was time to leave, and Hemi seemed fond of it as well. As the young woman had walked in to the open area, her wyrm slithered around the edges and investigated.
When he buried his nose in to the rock walls, Sevyrn figured that was a good sign. While she didn't know too much about gem wyrms, she did know that they had a fondness for the shinies and perhaps that was what he seemed to be so interested in. After shrugging her backpack off of her shoulders, she placed it on the ground and started to pull out her equipment.

Hammer - check. Shovel - check. Pick axe - check. Chisel - check. Brush set - check. As much as Sevyrn already knew that she had all of her equipment on hand, she had to double check as she got settled in. What to start with, though?
She settled on the pickaxe, a trusty piece of equipment that she had owned since her very first trip in to the mines. It would be good to tear down some larger chunks of rock from the wall, which she could then hammer or chisel down, depending on whether or not she saw anything that caught her eye amongst the rubble. Hopefully it wouldn't take too long to find something nice!
Not wanting to disturb the wyrm too much, she chose a spot a little bit away from where the creature seemed to be ever so focused. Sevyrn prepped herself, and once she felt like she had a good grip on the pick she brought it down on the wall.

Hemi seemed to be a bit jolted by the first strike of the pick to the wall, having raised his head to eye the woman who had dragged him in to here. The wyrm recoiled slightly from the second and following shocks as well, though slowly he became accustomed to the strange behavior of the woman with him. Within a couple minutes, he was once again more interested in the tunnel that he was trying to make through the thick stone walls than whatever it was that Sevyrn was trying to do. Good - she didn't want him to be focused on her, but rather on seeking out anything of interest that she might find from within the caves.
It didn't take long before she had worn herself out, though. Perhaps such a long break from visiting the mines hadn't been a good idea... Oh, well. She had water to drink and ground to sit on.

She didn't want to break for too long, though - there was work to be done. As much as this was meant to be something fun and a way to spend a day, it also had the possibility of earning her a bit of credits if she ever learned to work the shinies that she found in to jewelery, and worst case the gems themselves could serve as a safety net. There were, after all, multiple people who would be happy to buy any unwanted gems for their own use or collection. Sevyrn herself... as much as she wanted to learn to be able to work with them, she also simply enjoyed the little crystal collection that she had growing on her desk.
It took some will to clamber back to her feet, but eventually Sevyrn was ready once again. With multiple chunks broken off of the wall of the cave, it was time to dig through the rubble a bit and see if anything in it stood out as worth investigating further. It seemed that Hemi had become interested in the clutter while Sevyrn had been distracted, so she found herself with slightly high hopes.

Dirt, dirt, stone, dirt, stone.
As much as Sevyrn had been hoping that the rough edge of a gem or ore would be peeking out towards her from within the rubble, she had known better than to expect that would actually happen. It would be prudent to break down some of the larger chunks a bit further, though. Luckily she had the perfect tools for that task, and for a little while the young woman focused on hammering her chisel down in to some of the debris to break it down a bit more. So far she had found nothing of interest, but she also hadn't yet got to the part of the debris that her gem wyrm had seemed most interested in.
Perhaps it was time to get there... before, knowing her luck, Hemi would find an actual gem and go and eat it on her, or get possessive and refuse to let her take it from him. Perhaps once her collection had grown large enough that she had extras of stuff, she would allow the wyrm to have a proper collection of his own.

"Alright, bug off," Sevyrn said to the wyrm as she walked over towards where he was busy. Though she wasn't rather intimidating to other people with her lanky build, her height towering right over him was enough to make the wyrm hiss and act even more protective of whatever he was interested in. With a shake of her head, Sevyrn crouched closer to the ground.
"Come on, go somewhere else, Hem. I trust you'll find us something nice to bring home, and if you do there will definitely be a reward in it for you. I promise." Okay... she definitely was trying to negotiate with a hunk of sentient gem that almost definitely didn't understand her. It wasn't the strangest thing thing that she had ever done, though. When Hemi continued to be reluctant to move, Sevyrn let the hammer in her hand thud to the ground a couple feet away from him. That, at least, seemed like enough to get him to move away and go investigate a new corner of the room.
As she started to work through that pile of the torn-down rock chunks, she didn't notice her gem wyrm slithering off down a small tunnel on the other side of the room.

The gem wyrm's interest had treated her well - it wasn't long before Sevyrn caught sight of shimmers of blue and red from within the rocks. She couldn't even keep it inside - she had to pump her fist. Time to get busy - carefully with her chisel and her brush and tweezer set, the woman set to work freeing the gems from their confines in the rocks.
"Thank you so much, Hem - you're perfect I swear." Where... where was Hemi, anyways? Sevyrn had been so focused on the agate and carnelian that she had just discovered that she hadn't even noticed the gem wyrm was missing.... Shit.
"Hem?" She called out, praying for some kind of response from the gem wyrm, or even better for him to come slithering back to her. What were the chances that he may have caught wind of something else that she may be interested in? What were the chances that he was lost, or had run away? Her thoughts began to spiral as she shoved the two stones in to her backpack and started looking for Hemi.

Just as she reached the edge of room and started to peer down the hallway, the eerie sound of rocks shuffling spooked the already anxious girl. Immediately her flashlight swung down the tunnel, and she swore that she could see movement... something getting closer. She couldn't quite place what it was, though, and in worry she took several steps back from where she had been standing.
Her sudden, deep fears had been assuaged when whatever it was came in to sight, and it only took a moment for her to recognize the hematite form of her gem wyrm returning. As soon as they locked eyes, Hemi swivelled his head back towards the direction that he had come from as if to ask her to follow him. Had he found something else? Sevyrm knew that she should follow, that his instincts in here would be better than her own.
The farther down the tunnel that Hemi lead her, the more Sevyrn swore that she could hear a gentle thrumming in the background.

The gentle glow caught her eye before the actual crystal did - and immediately Sevyrn felt a sense of pride in both herself and Hemi. After all of her previous trips to the mines, this was the first time that she had ever laid eyes on one of those beautiful glowing crystals. To her, it seemed, it was the perfect specimen - perhaps that was only because it was about to be hers.
"You did amazing, Hemi - you really did. We've got a couple new gems to bring back home already and this? This was above and beyond. Thank you." She'd knelt before the gem wyrm as she spoke, petted the top of his rock-hard head in a way that made him recoil in unfamiliarity - no one had ever pet him like that before, who did she think that she was touching his head?
As careful as she possibly could be, Sevyrn began to try and pry the crystal from the rock wall that it was embedded in. She wanted to be delicate - the last thing that she wanted was to break it.
