Sevyrn couldn't lie, a big part of the reason she had brought home a king of the evergreen was because she'd heard that they were the source being the "magical berries" used in node creation. It had been a hard winter for her and perhaps it was her own fault that she was yet to see even a single one given that she'd neglected to care for many of her animals beyond making sure that they were fed, sheltered and safe. There was no time like the present to make up for that though, right? Maybe once the King wasn't just familiar with the garden but also with the human who resided here, he would be happier to share such wanted spoils.
"I've noticed that you keep a good eye on things here, Thistle," Sevyrn said to him, and took note of the flash of familiarity in his eyes when she said that word. It was the response that she was looking for. "Thank you for that. I feel safer walking away knowing that you've got things under control."

He wandered off, seemingly done with the conversation, and Sevyrn's fingers had started to chill to the bone with a cold winter sting, so she used this as an opportunity to head inside and made herself some hot chocolate to sip on. She watched the scene outside from behind the safety of her home, curtains pushed to the side so that she could peer through the windows. The king wandered towards the back of the garden and peered in to the pond, where Sevyrn's seryn and many fish that she had found while out and about at the river swam about and lived their lives in relative peace. He really was the watcher of it all.
Once finished her drink, she wandered back outside. The king had settled in to a spot by the shed, spine straight and head resting atop the staff he wielded. "Thistle!" Sevyrn called, hoping to pull his attention. The king of the evergreen's head slowly turned to look towards the woman. Okay.. it seemed that the creature had accepted the name she had chosen for him.

When Thistle lost interest in her, Sevyrn wandered back in to the house. She'd done what she needed to in the greenhouse, all of the animals seemed to be happy, and there was nothing else for her to do today. Plus just, like... it was cold out. She didn't want to be out in the cold. Had she gone and checked out the lay of the land a bit more she would have noticed that there were some really interesting berries waiting for her, though - the exact ones that she had been looking for. Perhaps with time a couple more would appear, and that would be decent. Beyond the odd find, she really wasn't expecting much throughout the winter - the plants in the greenhouse would come to be ready for harvest in time, but there were going to be very few outside plants - her berry bushes and fruit trees, for example, weren't going to be leaving her anything delicious at this time in the year.

At least they were in to the second half of February, now - pretty soon spring would be here, and then the garden would be back to going in full force. Those were the days that Sevyrn couldn't wait for - even the rainshowers that were going to make everyone want to stay inside. Hot cocoa during a snowstorm was nice and all, but did anything really beat drawing or reading or even just passing out to a thunderstorm?
Later that day she let out a sigh as she stepped out her back door and on to the small deck, peering around the yard from the railing. Thistle was standing over by the pond with Lailah, the lotine comfortable in his presence. Sevyrn's mussimander was tucked in a big flowerpot by the door to the house, his striped black head poking out from where he had curled up beneath Al's sleeping form. Despite him being closet to Button originally, the mussimander had become quite close with the hybrid over time.

Everyone seemed to be pretty happy - the majority of the critters had moved to hide in the greenhouse, but she saw everyone out and about at one point in time or another (some more often than others, of course). The pachee tended to wander out the least, having created a rather cozy nest in one part of the greenhouse where they could often all be seen cuddling up together. The dragonoaks seemed to have made some kind of den behind the shed. Everyone... had their winter home - and for so long Sevyrn had been worried that these guys might have a hard time getting through winter, to the point she had been afraid that she would be failing them.
All in all, everyone seemed pretty happy. They were likely just as ready for spring to come as Sev herself was, though - perhaps the king of the evergreen was the exception to that.

Thistle seemed to notice that Sevyrn was back outside - his gaze turned towards the woman and he began to amble towards the house. Sevyrn smiled as she watched him, and when he came to rest just before the deck she reached an arm out over the railing. "How's it going? Keeping everyone safe?" She asked as the king of the evergreen placed one of his hands in to hers, and then peered towards the few stairs that lead the way up to where Sevyrn was. When he started to walk off, Sevyrn originally thought that he was walking away - no, he was simply venturing to the staircase to make his way up on the deck as well. Thistle had never wandered this close to the house, but... well, he also hadn't wandered too close to her until just earlier this day. There was always a first time for everything, it seemed.

It was interesting, just hanging out with the king of the Evergreen. Over the next little while Sevyrn came to find out that he was actually quite a curious character - as intrigued about the world around him as any other creature around her was. Sevyrn had to wonder how he was going to feel about spring coming - it would be his first in the garden since Sevyrn had come to own him, and she had no idea what his life was like before the day she had taken him and the rest of her motley crew of plant creatures home.
She was excited, though. Spring coming meant that she would be able to start working on this year's plans. She had so many more residents this year than she had the one before, and this year the place was going to turn in to the perfect oasis for every single one of them.

A couple little things could be found. Unfortunately no healing berries for the end of winter.

Ah yes, and spring was finally here! Winter seemed like it was never going to end but the temperatures were starting to get warmer and though a thin layer of snow still coated the ground, pretty soon that would fade in to memory and Sevyrn would be complaining about the rain making it too wet to get any work done. The residents of the garden seemed to be getting happier, though. More and more they were wandering out of the comfort of the greenhouse and their dens, bringing life back to the barren winter landscape. Life was starting to return, and Sevyrn swore that she could see the first shoots of flowers and grass trying to poke up through the softening dirt. All in all, she was very excited for the change in seasons. She had been planning to get ready for the start of the growing season when she had been stopped by one of her plant creatures, a spriteling sapling. 146

The little thing had hopped up on to her picnic table, first the bench and then the table part of it, and peered towards Sevyrn with an interesting curiosity. They had been around each other on and off since Sevyrn had first come home with her garden creatures, but the two were not very well aqcuainted. Things could always change, though. Sevyrn had managed to gain the trust of most of the garden creatures to at least some degree already, whether they were yet willing to approach her or not. At least they knew they were safe here.
"Hey, Sprite," Sevyrn said to the sapling spriteling - once again she was not very original when it came to naming things. Oh, well - it didn't hurt anyone. "How ya doing, Sprite?" Sevyrn asked, using their first proper interaction as an excuse to teach the little thing her name. Well... Sevyrn was assuming it was a her. It seemed like a her.

Sprite didn't seem to know what was going on, but she did seem happy to be interacting with the woman. Over the time Sev had spent observing the spriteling, she'd noticed that the creature was rather catlike - a trait that she could appreciate. However, that also meant that the sapling was wont to be aloof. That made finally being so close to each other feel like a reward to the woman, who prided herself in her ability to care for the animals in her charge.
Sevyrn sat at the picnic table, and reached out towards Sprite slowly with one hand. "Yeah - I'm not so bad, am I, Sprite?" She asked, as the spriteling pulled away from her just barely. Seconds later, she leaned back in to investigate Sevyrn even further. In an ideal world, they were going to be the best of buds in no time at all now that the ice had been broken.

Sev may have planned to get the garden ready for the new growing season but instead here she was... sitting at her picnic table with one knee to her chest and her other leg spread out along the length of the bench, talking to a glorified winged plant cat. Strangely enough, this was her ideal life. Luckily Sprite seemed to be in a good mood, so Sevyrn was happy to keep chatting with the spriteling, who was slowly coming to recognize her name as it was repeated to her over time. Sev had plenty of little snacks to offer, and after a few awkward minutes she had even been allowed to touch her garden's resident for the very first time.
It was a really big day! It wasn't that long ago that she was just getting to know Thistle for the first time, and now Sprite wanted to be friendly with her as well. She was going to do good by these guys - that much was guaranteed.

Eventually Sprite seemed to be getting restless, so Sevyrn was happy to let her wander off and do her thing - it also left her with a good opportunity to test whether or not the spriteling had come to understand her own name during their time together. Sevyrn let her take a break for a bit, though, and used that time to start digging through her shed so that she could have everything she needed ready once she'd had the chance to pop by the store and pick up this spring's batch of outdoor seedlings. It was quite the task - the shed was getting uncomfortably crowded, she was going to have to deal with that at some point too - and by the time that Sevyrn left the single-room building she was quite tired.
Sprite seemed to have been interested in the commotion, because she was looking towards the door when Sevyrn left. "Hey Sprite!" Sevyrn greeted, and in return the sapling spriteling cocked her head towards the woman. Yeah, Sprite seemed to have an understanding going on.
