No matter what she did, the little mussimander seemed to keep his bright eyes honed in on her - this was his new person, after all. She had brought him home tucked right in to her pocket, gave her a safe place to be and some new friends - some nice, some scary. He was just happy to be here, especially now that he had a new buddy closer to his own size and a tree trunk to turn in to his home! He was set on making that his little spot, unaware that winter would make it unusable.
Sevyrn had some spare lumber left over from working on her new fence - she wondered if there would be enough to get the composter started today. Even if she was able to get something basic set up, she would be able to head out in the morning and grab more supplies. She supposed that they would see!

Sevyrn dug through her shed, searching through piled-up, messy shelves for a hammer that had to be buried somewhere in there - she found the nails easy enough of course, but the hammer... Nope, that wanted to be hidden somewhere in the mess. Eventually she did find it, somehow tucked in to the back of the shed. She must have put it back there when she had moved her excess lumber inside? Luckily she had a little bit of experience with carpentry and her expanding her fence line had given her a somewhat decent idea of how to build things, so this wouldn't be the worst task in the world.
Sevyrn left the hammer and nails on the table next to the door, getting ready to pull the lumber out. She failed to notice that a sneaky little thing had made his way in to the shed, and the moment that Sevyrn's foot came in to contact with the mussimander he squealed.

Sevyrn was immediately plagued with tremendous guilt - luckily she had already placed the box of nails down so they weren't going to get thrown anywhere, but she did toss the hammer straight down on her table and immediately crouched down to pick the mussimander up and cuddle him close to her chest. "I am so sorry," she cooed to him as she gently moved around his little arms and legs, checking him for ant residual damage. She hadn't managed to kick him hard, but she hadn't been prepared for him to be so close to her feet - the last thing that she wanted to do was to have caused the poor little thing harm. She was supposed to be his safety here, after all.
The mussimander's little whimper left Sevyrn feeling like he was now afraid of her... fuck. "I am so sorry, little guy. What were you doing in here?"

Hopefully going back to his pachee friend would make him feel better? The way he squirmed in Sevyrn's hold made it clear that he didn't want to be held right now, so the best thing that Sevyrn could offer now that she knew he was injury free was to return him to Button. Hopefully he would stay over there this time around....
After returning the mussimander to his newcomer buddy, Sevyrn kept a close eye on the pair for just a minute before wandering back. The mussimander seemed to be happy to be back with his friend, and the bright colored pachee seemed to fawn over his smaller friend. They were going to be okay as long as they stayed together - who knew, maybe the mussimander would end up choosing to curl up with the pachee instead of that dirty old tree stump.
As she walked back towards the shed she was still feeling terrible about what had happened.

Alright... time to finally haul that lumber out of the shed. Sevyrn wasn't a big girl nor was she particularly strong so hauling heavy loads wasn't exactly her forte, but luckily the hardest part about hauling single pieces of lumber was getting them tilted enough to get them back out the shed door. Once she had finished taking everything out she walked to the side of the shed and picked a spot - she didn't want it built too close that the rotting compost would potentially compromise her shed, but she also didn't want it sitting in the middle... or maybe it would be a good thing to put in the new addition? She did need to start doing some work on that eventually, and with that being where her garden was going...
Yeah. She was going to need to figure out the best spot, though. Maybe she would work on a path down the middle of the expansion, and the bin could be down at the end?

If she was going to build a path down the expansion, then she was going to need to work on the path in the main area... Everything that she wanted to do just seemed to give her more and more things that she would need to do first. Sevyrn walked past the mussimander and pachee, now curled up together and seeming to be taking a nap, on her way with one piece of lumber in each hand. She could at least lay out some boundaries, survey the area after to see if she liked it? Then she would at least know where about to build the wooden barriers for the vegetable patches that she would be able to watch the Al-deterring chicken wire fence to.
So she did just that - put the two boards approximately where they looked right, and then stepped back. No... That was not even at all.

The commotion seemed to catch the interest of the mussimander, who peeked his eyes open but stayed comfortable tucked beneath the curled up pachee's belly. What was going on? He didn't want to move, he was real comfortable and she'd kicked him a little while ago, but he was curious. Sevyrn didn't even notice him watching her.
The woman moved in to readjust the boards, and then again and again until she was finally happy with their placement. Okay... now she had the very first step of getting the new area up and going - awesome. She could leave those plants where they were, and break down a couple of the larger plants to build a rectangular-ish compost box at the very end of what would be a path. Luckily she had a saw and some lumber to spare, so she started by cutting down two pieces and dragging the remnants down to the end of the path.

The laid the pieces down in the spot she wanted to work with, and took a moment mulling it over - the box had ended up a little wider than she had been visualizing and not quite as deep, but it still seemed like it would be relatively usable. Now all she would need to do was make a somewhat usable box around the area, maybe a divider in the middle so that she could have two areas going... the plan was (somewhat) coming together! Sev lugged everything that she would need down to the end of the path, luckily not a long trip from the shed, and then started to get to work. Not only was the mussimander awake but now the pachee was, no longer curled up but rather stretched out - the pair watched Sevyrn do... whatever it was that she was doing, while still laying around together. They seemed to be buddies already.

Physical labor might not have been Sevyrn's forte, but she was more than capable of getting the job done - it might just take longer than it would have for someone with more experience and more muscle. She worked on a basic frame first, corners to secure the walls to. She cut those boards extra deep so that she could shove them far in to the ground, and then after making sure that they were an even height with each other, she started to attach the lowest level of side boards around the front, back and sides. The hardest part was going to be the divider in the middle, but even that she managed to work through.
The mussimander was getting really curious now - there was so much commotion over there that he just had to get up and check it all out. What in the world was she making? He skittered closer and watched from a couple feet away.

Aha! The bin was finally in a semi-usable state. She was going to have to keep an eye on it and make sure that she replaced any piece of wood that started to rot with time, but it would be perfectly usable for what she needed to be... now her garden scraps and organic leftovers would not need to be thrown in a pile over by the shed. Ready for the finishing touches, Sevyrn ran inside to grab her shovel and came back out with it, taking scoop by scoop of grass clippings, weeds, dead plants and leftover food scraps over to the new bin where, with time, it would be able to serve its purpose without just being and ugly pile of somewhat-compost laying around on the ground.
The mussimander was intrigued by this, to say the least - as Sevyrn walked away he scampered closer, poking his head between the wooden slats to see what was going on.

Ah, yes - it deem seem like Sevyrn had some late blooms going on this year. A serene smile lit up her face as she took note of three orchids growing content over by the house - she had been starting to worry that those plants would never flower, and yet now it seemed that they were in bloom - she would leave those be for now, letting them light up her autumn-hued yard with flashes of bright color. They really were beautiful flowers - some of her favourites, actually.
Looking at them, she wondered - she knew that she didn't need six identical plants to go down to the pachee headquarters and hand them over for the pollen project. What kind of creature would come to her as the result of orchids? It was a question she wouldn't know the answer to until the future brought her more to offer. The mussimander seemed to have laid eyes on something himself - what did he find?

Oh... It was dead - the mussimander was playing with a wilted flower over in the new part of the garden, nibbling at its stem. Sevyrn came to him and crouched down, examining the never before seen plant with curiosity - upon touching it, she realized that it was very much alive. It just... looked dead? Regardless, it could stay where it was for now - it was likely another thing that could join the bin in her shed in due time, but for now the colorful hues of flowers kept her garden looking alive - the loss of summer dulled its serene vibrance, she would take anything that she could.
"That was a really good find, buddy," Sevyrn praised, and she reached towards the ground to scoop up the mussimander and hold him close once again. "What do you think I should do next? There are so many projects that I need to get done before winter comes."

Freshly dropped pomegranates ripe and ready to be eaten, a sprig of wheat also growing in the expansion - Sevyrn had raised back to her full height and immediately noticed even more spoils waiting for her. She had inherited the pomegranate tree when she had paid for the permit to expand her yard, but the wheat... She really had no claim to that at all. Perhaps it was something that she could devote a little bit of her time to come next year? She wasn't exactly a wheat farmer nor did she know how to process it at all, but she could learn how to make her own bread?
The more that Sevyrn thought about her plans for the future, the more that she wanted to move out of her tiny house and buy a farm. She had just put so much work in to this place that it felt wrong to leave it behind, though.

She could have a garden on a farm - a much bigger one, at that. She could also have a pond for the seryn and aquatic creatures... Build the orbaru house that she had been planning to, maybe even a stable for her equillion. It would just be... a massive undertaking, and it would come with an immense feeling of loss to leave this place behind... This was her first home, the first garden that she had tended to all to herself - it was the home that she had shared with Ryden, and the place where she had come in to her own as an adult instead of the child that she had been the day that she moved in.
"What do you think?" Sevyrn asked the clueless mussimander in her arms. "You want to start a farm or stay right here?" Though he couldn't understand her or respond, the mussimander most definitely wanted to stay here.
