The leopard crawled his way under the serpent's maned neck in some attempt to escape the remnants of the sneeze. It sheltered him for the most part, though there was no avoiding that smell. A grimace plastered itself on his face, padded hand covering his snout. Just when he thought he had enough pliathor saliva for one day.. Ah well. That was an unexpected hiccup in this exercise, but one that wouldn't put too much of a dampen on his attempts.
{Sorry, master..}, the clear thought passed through his mind out of the usual jumble of the serpent, thick with the tone of shame.
[All is well, Basantai. A natural reaction], the leopard assured, passing his hand through the long, gold-tipped red fur sheltering him. After waiting a moment to ensure the air was clear, the leopard came from under the beast, ready to try again. "Bow!", he called, and the serpent responded accordingly. And again, he rest his upper half on the somewhat moistened snout, making sure to stay more still so that his fur didn't trigger another sneeze.

For all the heft and size, the pliathor was very aware about every part of its body. Its scales may not be as sensitive as skin, but they still did feel! And oddly enough, despite being half coated in fur, the sensation of another's on its body struck it as odd. Xentus had short, thin fur on his chest, which grew slightly longer on his extremities. It was a sleek texture, in contrast to its own silky and thick mane. The leopard picked up on a few of the passing thoughts which the serpent had about their respective types of fur, an amused smile passing his muzzle. Slowly, he let more of his body come into contact with that giant snout, resting his head and arms upon the scales. More of his weight pressed down, but the effect almost went undetected by the massive serpent. It could easily lift the man on its snout, his weight was almost nothing in comparison to its own.

A creature of some kind seems to have taken a liking to the bait, judging from that little blurry form in the water. It sneaks up very slowly, then suddenly jumps out of the water, snatching the bait and darting off like a rocket.
Well, that sucked. The tricky little thing moved so fast it was impossible to catch, then it was gone. At least it was gone now, so it should be alright to try again.

Feeling confident enough to clamber atop the serpent's snout, Xentus slowly lifted a thigh and draped it beside one of those large nostrils. The smooth scales offered him nothing to grip unfortunately, so it did take a good bit of effort on his own part to prevent himself from sliding off. Though Basantai noticed his master's struggle, there was nothing the serpent could do to make it easier aside from offering the edge his mouth as a foothold. The thought did pass to the leopard in an unorganized tangle, giving the man some idea of what the creature was trying to convey. But he equally didn't want to cause the serpent any discomfort or have any more of his body exposed to pliathor saliva. "Okay, Basa, this one is going to hop on", the leopard gently muttered aloud, propping himself upright. It wasn't going to be much different from hopping up onto a table, though he did fear he might hurt the serpent somehow.

His hands gripped without adding too much pressure to the clawed tips, and then with a single heave, the leopard lifted himself up to straddle the serpent's snout. Xentus assessed the creature's eyes for any sign of discomfort and listened intently to the steady stream of jumbled thoughts for any mention of pain. But his eyes saw nothing but the return gaze of cyan eyes, and his mind heard nothing but intrigue of master being so close. Xentus steadied himself. He drew in a quick breath, then started to scoot himself forward up the snout. His goal was the cushy spot of fur between those golden horns. It would hopefully be the most comfortable spot for either of them. Getting there, though, was a bit of an endeavor. Clambering up on the creature's snout seemed like the quickest way to go about it, though he did wonder if climbing through that thick mane would be any better..

Well, he'd just have to try that a bit later. Pulling on that thick fur probably wouldn't be any more painful than tugging on alurook feathers, and Mashiik seemed to handle that just fine when he was clambering about her back. These hard scales that he sat atop now didn't seem very vulnerable to damage, yet he still felt he had to treat them as if he were traversing over glass. Perhaps because he wouldn't much like something crawling about his own snout in a similar fashion. Basantai seemed to be handling this fairly well, but there was no harm in being careful anyway. Xentus scooted himself up just before the creature's eyes, now fully within the blindspot. He tucked his feet up behind himself, then continued his climb. This spot was somewhat steep, and a great tease considering the spot he wanted to reach was just beyond..

It was a fairly tricky finding any purchase on the slick scales, but Xentus was determined. He leaned forward and gripped best he could with the pads of his hands, lifting himself up the sloped surface. Though Basantai could no longer watch, he did well to stay still while his master clambered. The sensation of his weight on the space between the eyes was an odd one. Like a stuck sneeze. Not painful or uncomfortable really, just noticeable.
[How do you fare, Basantai? Xentus hopes he does not hurt you], the leopard pressed his thought into the serpent's mind, concerned. While he knew it would take a lot more to truly harm the titanic beast, he needed some assurance.. {Funny feeling}, the reply came, slowly and thoughtfully. Xentus breathed a sigh of relief hearing that. It was all he needed to hear to drive him forward to make the final hurdle to the soft looking bed of fur that crowned the creature's head.

(Loot Collected) The first tufts of fur were in reach, sprouting forth between the scales. The transition from smooth scales to silky fur was a rather abrupt one - the stark contrast between the textures was amazing. The fur was somewhat bristly due to the thickness, yet smooth and dense. And plenty inviting to rest in. Xentus gave one final heave, clambering up and onto the bed of gold-tipped fur between the creature's horns. Unsurprisingly, he quickly sank into the mass, engulfed in a sea of red strands. There he lay, catching his breath. That climb took much more effort than he thought it would.
"Good Basantai", the leopard praised, though the serpent didn't so much aside from stay still. A deep rumble from within the beast was it's acceptance of the praise, regardless of how well earned it was or not. Whatever made the master happy made it happy in turn.
"Let this one rest a moment, yes?"

He didn't resist the temptation to nap. Under the gentle sun and surrounded by the pliathor's lush mane, it was impossible to not fall asleep. He didn't intend to - but it seemed he was much more tired than he first thought.. The last thought which drifted from his mind to the serpent's was 'good boy'. Basantai would cope just fine with a sleeping man on its head, right? At first, the beast did its best to hold as still as possible. Its head held low to the ground with its body and limbs in a crouched position. This position grew uncomfortable after a few long minutes. It sent a curious mental nudge to its master, asking what it should do now.. But to no avail. The serpent endured the straining pose for another minute longer, then decided for itself that it would try to relax. Somehow. Balancing a man on one's head was one thing..

But balancing a sleeping man was another. Xentus had nothing to tether himself down. His grip on the red strands of fur were loose. His body managed to stay atop the pliathor using only the power of gravity and friction. Basantai carefully shuffled its feet, trying its best to not drop or wake its precious master in the process. It would've whined if it didn't fear the noise might disturb the man's restful slumber. It even breathed more carefully. The creature slowly moved its long body onto itself, wrapping around into a loose coil. It too would try to rest, following suit after its master. Besides, without the man's guidance, it had no real interest in the riverside surroundings. It would wake until the leopard awakened and issued the next activity order. For a moment, the beast paused its attempt to coil up as its master snorted and shuffled slightly in his sleep.

Did it wake him? The pliathor let out a mental prod, calling for its master's attention. And for a moment, it thought it heard a murmur. Its finned ears fluttered in an attempt to pick up on any words. But it seemed the leopard was still fast asleep. That was a relief. The serpent let out a quiet exhale, then resumed its attempts to coil. It moved its long, fluffy tail around its front (rather than the other way around) so that it wouldn't move its head too much. It balanced elegantly on its front legs, using the power of wind to aid in moving its enormous body. And once it felt that its form was coiled well, it rested its head on its back. Its blue eyes closed and it rested. Mission success! The leopard remain dozing peacefully and it could do the same as well now. Comfortably and peacefully.

Time uncounted passed before the leopard finally cracked his eyes open. The endless blue sky spanned above him, sun beating gently on his face. And for a peaceful moment, he felt oddly immersed with nature. Then, the realization of where he was set it. His hands felt long, smooth strands of fur. There was a sea of red around his vision. Xentus bolted up, finding himself nestled between two golden horns atop a giant's head. How long had he been asleep? Given that there was still daylight, it couldn't have been entirely too long. Oh, what about feeding Basa? His heart lurched as he carefully called for the beast with their mental link. And at first, no response came.. Which was odd, considering how attentive the serpent was to him. Another mental call provoked the beast enough to shudder beneath him as it drew in a large, long breath of air.

Then it clicked. The pliathor had been sleeping too, hadn't it? It didn't wake him and fell asleep itself. It was.. Endearing. But now he'd woken it, a groggy murmur of thoughts streaming into his mind once again. Xentus picked up on something about a crab and fish. Its dream, perhaps? Quite relevant to the day. Xentus hummed and warned the beast that he would be clambering down. The pliathor stayed stark still as the man slid down its nose and landed on the ground.
"Let us go home, hm? Get some rest, get some food, refresh if you will", the leopard told the beast aloud, a kind smile on his face, "This one will return here again with you, dear Basantai, and hopefully soon." He'd enjoyed his time here bonding with the guardian serpent. Next time, he'd need to try to focus on a bit more fishing. And with that, they were off.
